All resort non-smoking

And vice versa. It's OUTSIDE. So, if i have a 1st floor room, I can step off of the patio and smoke on the grass 1 inch from the patio, true? I'm not in the room and I'm not on the patio/balcony. If your answer is no, then I would assume I can't smoke in the parking lot either? :confused3

If the grass 1 inch from your patio is a designated smoking area, then yes you can smoke there. If that specific space is not a designated smoking area then you can't smoke there.

At least you used the word "draconian" correctly in a sentence but I don't think anyone is being threaten with death if they break "the rule".

Draco
Athenian lawgiver whose harsh legal code punished both trivial and serious crimes in Athens with death—hence the continued use of the word "draconian" to describe repressive legal measures.

:)

That's funny! Everyone knows draconian punishment is strictly reserved for mug-reusers!

I just got off the phone with MS and was told the following:

"The imposed fines for DVC resorts will be $250 for a studio, $300 for a 1BRV, $350 for a 2 BRV and $400 for a GV. This will be charged directly to the credit card on file for the room in question and in the event there isnt one on file, it will be applied directly to the DVC owners account and treated as dues in arears and must be paid in full before any additional booking can be made on that account. It will be a one time charge regardless of the duration of the stay".

So this is for room cleanup costs. How does it work for Balcony smoking or sidewalk smoking or parking lot smoking? :scared1:

Here's the simple fact people....I'm still going to smoke in my room. Only now I won't be in a room designated as a smoking room. If that costs me $250-$500 extra for my trip, so be it. Nothing anyone can say here is going to change that fact.

I have never smoked in a non-smoking area at the parks because Disney has always made me feel that they respect my right to smoke. They have provided me with clean, easily located, comfortable smoking areas. This often isn't the case in other places, where the smoking areas can be dirty and uncomfortable. Because I have felt respected as a smoker at WDW parks, I have never violated their smoking policy.

Wow! I was just thinking I hope everyone follows the rules because my DD has health issues and is not supposed to be around smoke. When people smoke in a room, the smell lingers and gets in the carpet and other fibers. It would not be good for her or others with health issues. At least with the smoking rooms, I have a greater chance of actually getting a smoke free room.

know people who smoke around their asthmatic kids, which I find appalling that they would rather smoke than consider the health risks for their kids. This poster seems to only care about their ability to smoke and could care less if that would cause potential dangers to the next person staying in the room.

And what about all the DVC owners who bought DVC thinking they could smoke? That's a lot of money to drop only to find out now you aren't welcome in your "home away from home."

What about all the people who made vacation plans a year ago, only to find out that now, THEY don't have a smoking room LIKE THEY WERE PROMISED?

Next, the Moral Majority around here won't let you have wine in your room or on your balcony, because "it's a family place."

I do agree that this should not have been retroactively applied to existing reservations. If someone booked a smoking room, they should not be told after the fact that they can't smoke. It's different if they know at the time of booking that there's no smoking.

Normally I would not argue semantics, but it appears that is the point of your post. Draconian is not used correctly as it refers to a set of laws, not rules. Draconian could have been properly used as an analogy, but not as written.

Well, I don't use the pool so you can apply my pool portion of fees towards the smoking area upkeep. :rolleyes1 Or we could just do away with the pool. It will lower maintainance fees and the chlorine in the air irritates my skin.

Disney has every right to eliminate pools if it makes sense from a business standpoint. Same thing with the smoking policy -- if Disney starts losing money because of this, they will reconsider.

I have an OT question for all the smokers/non-smokers, regarding the balcony issue.

For all those that have stated they keep the Balcony doors open to enjoy the air and/or view, and that if a smoker is on a balcony close by, you have to close your balcony door, MY question is , Are you all keeping the air conditioning running while the balcony doors are open ?

I have seen many many people on our visits that just open the door for hours at a time. IF the air conditioning is continuing to be run in the villa and the doors are open, doesn't this make the A/C costs conciderably higher than it should be? Seems like the balcony smokers would be causing doors to close and save some of that electric. Just an simple question.

Seems like a great question with regards to fines.....

My wife never has the AC on and opens the room windows and patio doors unless it is sweltering which we don't often get in Dec. So for us this is an issue and gets reported.

Smoking/non-smoking is just a room request that isn't guaranteed unless medically necessary. I know I've been given a smoking room when requesting non-smoking -- and I bet sometimes it goes the other way too. It happens sometimes.

At least Disney is contacting those owners who reqested smoking rooms to let them know of the change.

It used to be okay for companies to dump toxic waste into our rivers and streams.

And since a certain someone took office, now it's fine again!

Sorry - I couldn't resist.
