Alamo minivan or Emerald Aisle?

I can get a minivan for one week $150 from Alamo. Also, if I prepay I can get an extra 10% off that amount...

I already have an Emerald Aisle ressie at National for $133 for an intermediate.

I really like how you can pick your own car on the Emerald Aisle. I have rented cars from other companies and ended up with some real beaters.

Do you get to pick your own vehicle at the Alamo at MCO? I mean, if I rent a minivan there, will they tell me which one I have to take? Any experience? TIA!

That's a great price for a minivan. I'd go for that since I have two little ones and lots of luggage.

I believe at Alamo, you also can pick your own minivan from the minivan aisle after visiting the counter. Alamo and National are sister companies and handle how you pick your car the same; just that Alamo doesn't have a way to bypass the counter.

Emerald aisle, you will get an Intermediate for that price. They rarely have a bonus car on the EA, but sometimes they do, not often though so don't count on it.

IMHO, both Alamo and National usually have pretty new cars on their lots.

That's a great price! Go for the minivan!

When are you going and what codes are you using? That is a terrific rate. I would love to get a rate like that!! :flower:

Excuse my stupidity please. I just scrolled down and saw your counter. 9 days from now. Sorry, but I am still interested in the codes you used and did you get this as a last minute rate or have you had it booked. Thanks

I've booked a "midsize SUV" Chevy Equinox class, with Alamo for $178 Dec 6 to 15. It worked out only $2 more than pre-pay, so I went with it. I used the publicly available Coupon code (see Alamo website) of D42C, and a corp ID from Chevron travel Club...try any corp numbers you may belong to, they do vary...Chevron price was quite a bit less than the Disney Annual Pass code price. Often associations you may belong to have great codes, also check with your banks/credit unions and credit card companies.

Goodness, It amazes me the price differences you can get. For my dates of 11/25-12/3 the SUV was $298 after taxes etc. That was using a Sams code and the D42C code. I have a full size car rental right now with NAtional for $222 everything included. They seem to be the cheapest that I have been able to find at the moment. The rate I started with was $235 so I am hoping that it will continue to go down. Who knows. This car rental thing seems to be such a joke.

Yeah, it's a crap shoot!

I booked my Nov 25 - Dec 3 back in January and it was well over $200. I checked frequently and got it down to $149 total and it went right back up again though. It's all luck, supply and demand, and based on when you are going too.

Here's hoping yours comes down again.

I'm facing the same dilemna as the OP. We have virtually the same prices for a minivan and an intermediate on the Emerald Aisle. I'm torn between the familiar Emerald Aisle...but that is always a risk for us, as we have 3 kids and luggage, stroller, etc. We have never had a problem getting a car that is large enough for us.

I have read some concerning reports of wait times at the MCO Alamo counter. We will be picking up our vehicle around 9AM on a Friday morning, hopefully it won't be too crowded then.

As far as getting the lowest rates, it is a matter of checking and double checking. I have an Entertainment book, and I visit the Mousesavers site daily. That's where I have gotten all of my codes.

My rates at National and Alamo are either steady or up a little from last week. I wonder if we'll see another drop in price this week?!?

I agree. Getting a little antsy over using Alamo this time, but the 100.00 difference in what I could get at National is just too much to pass up. You can no check in online at Alamo which allows you to skip the counter. So, I am going to take a chance and see if it goes as smoothly as National Emerald Reserve. I got a mini van for $167.00 total from 9/30 thru 10/6 at Alamo. National rate was $257.00. Wish me luck.

Msmouse -

Is your rate using a coupon? If so, could you please post after you return how your experience was? I notice on the online check-in that it states no coupons allowed...I'm wondering if anyone has been able to use a coupon and do the bypass-the-counter option.

Alamo and National are owned by the same company.

My minvan is down to $127.62 for the week, using the Entertainment Book coupon, following it to the letter. :cool1:

A Sport Utility (full-size) is $135.xx

I did not use a coupon.

Dropped again! My December rental went from $178 to $165 yesterday, this morning it is at $160 for 9 days.

Using the Walmart customer rate code from the atlas sold at walmart, BY id 428448 I got my Alamo minivan rental fr one week for 118.32, after taxes, fees and such it is $139.31, the cheapest I had before that was 246 through L&M.

is the $135.xx the final cost including all taxes and stuff? I can't get that price...I am using a $25 off coupon and it's only at $160

I always use EA, but the prices are way out of line for this coming week. Also, I can't get onto the new web site. It keeps saying contact my credit card company for unauthorized use. I did - no unauthorized use at all.

So, I went to Alamo, and did the pay in advance thing. I found that in order to get the pay in advance rate, you have to click on it and follow that link. I got a Chevy Equinox for 8 days, 9/24-10/2 from MCO and back for a grand total of $146.93. The base rate for one week was $105.32 and one extra day was $17.26. I used the internet coupon and got $15 off. The taxes were $39.35, really high, and the grand total $146.93. This is cheaper than EA for a car. So, I went ahead and booked it. I hope I don't regret it. I was going to take the ME as we are flying on Delta, but I just don't like waiting for a bus, or getting up at the crack of dawn to get to the airport 3 hours early. I like the convenience of a car on the food plan - it takes too long to use the Disney buses to get where you are going.

If anyone knows of a better way to do this, let me know.

The new National site will not take the 6600330 and the 10009123 codes anymore with EA. I don't get it.

If you are using a coupon you must go to the counter. Maybe the lines won't be so long now that some people can go straight to the car. Please check your info. (Someone was nice enough to help me with this) Some discount codes (bjs, sams, etc) allow 1 additional driver at no extra cost, plus you may want to check directly with your credit card. We have a Mastercard and they told us they Florida is a "no fault" state. (Your regular car insurance would kick in, and you'd be subject to the deductible) but MC will pay the deductible if you charge it on there card?? Thats what they told me???
