A question about AP's

Hello all,

I'm very excited to be planning another trip to Disney this summer and hope that you all can help me as much as you did for our trip last year.

Last year we stayed at the Dolphin and had a wonderful time and I received the 50% entertainment rate, which I found out about through these boards.

This year we may stay at the Dolphin again but also wouldn't mind trying another place onsite. I'm a DC member and waited for the big surprise rates to come out today but have to say that I'm somewhat less than impressed.

To make a long story short, we are considering getting AP's in order to get the AP discount and also so we can plan a trip next year too. My question is whether we need to buy the AP's prior to booking at these rates or can we wait to actually buy the passes? Also, are the AP's effective when you buy them or when you first use them?

Ok. Technically you need to have your AP in hand at check-in. However, I was NEVER asked to show my AP upon checking in, so the choice is up to you.

Second, when I got my AP's I ordered them through the Disney store, used my DC club to get a 10% discount, and I received a voucher. The voucher had to be redeemed at the TTC. That is where it was activated. So on the day it was activated that's when it started being "counted." If you buy the AP's at the TTC or at the Disney store in the Orlando Int'l Airport, they will be activated THAT day. So you can make your ressies with the AP discount, then buy your passes when you get to Disney or Orlando, then check in to your resort. If you stay at the Dolphin first, then you'll have some time to buy the AP's there and use them for check in later that week.
