Stay warm Amanda! Glad you found a place to stay.
My cousin who lives in NJ drove home on Wed. A bunch of guys in the appt. bldg. needed to move a tree so they could all get out. They all drove home to their families.

I can imagine the smiles on your children's faces when heat and lights come back.
We got power back on Monday 11/4. No electricity or heat or land phone for 8 days. Our house was down to 52. Thank goodness we got power back before the snow storm and I finally got to fill the empty car with gas at the North Campus during the snow.(after a 2 hr wait)
Some of our colleagues are having a hard time still trying to get hotel rooms since their cold and dark homes are uninhabitable.

Amanda- sending hugs your way! My heart goes out to you and all of the families who's lives have been disrupted by this terrible storm!

Dee

Quick update: Power came back on Thursday night almost exactly 10 days to the hour of when it went out. The house temp was down to 40F. I have lots to share but so much to do so please be patient with me.
One benefit of no power is that I'm now running the Princess Half. And it's a good story!

I'm so glad it's back on!! :goodvibes CANNOT WAIT to hear the story! WOOT for the Princess!!! I'll be running it someday, just not this year. Feet are getting better, but not better enough.

Hi Amanda-

I haven't been over on the PTR boards for a couple of weeks. Had a lot going on at work and planning a major fundraising event at the school, but I have been thinking about you and your family. Glad to hear you got your power back, but 10 days is a really long time and I can only imagine how incredibly disruptive it has been for all of you.

Sending good vibes your way!

Amanda, Thankful you have power...it gives a new meaning to Thanksgiving, I know.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Hi all!!!
Remember me?
I'm a terrible DISer. So busy at work and at home. I hardly have time to sit down, much less catch up.

We survived 10 long days without power after Sandy. The first few nights we stayed at home. Then we made a reservation at the Hilton in Connecticut. While TOm was on the phone with HIlton Reservations, they offered him the option of listening to a Timeshare deal in addition to our reservation. He said sure. They gave him a choice of places and he picked Orlando. So we were able to get a 2 bedroom villa at the Hilton Seaworld for 4 nights for about $600 (a little less actually) but we have to listen to a Timeshare talk for 90 minutes. Which is how I am now running the Princess Half and my whole family is doing the Royal Family 5k, including the post-5k breakfast! WOOHOO!!!
The funny part is that the HIlton in Connecticut didn't actually have any power. :rolleyes2 SO we ended up spending a weekend at Rocking Horse Ranch (an all-inclusive family resort about 90 minutes away) instead. :confused3
When we returned from Rocking Horse on Sunday after the storm, we weren't sure where we would stay. It was in the low 50s in our house so we moved all the mattress into the living room in front of the fire place. And we headed to the library for a Town Meeting. While Tom was at the meeting, I went to the children's library wtih the kids. We met a family that had a reservation at the Crowne Plaza for the night. Except their power was returned while we were talking. And they gave us their reservation for 2 nights. Yay!
When we checked out of the Crowne Plaza on Tuesday morning, I didn't know where we would stay that night. We were offered the basement at a friend's house for one night and then we spent a night at our nanny's house. Finally on Thursday evening we got our power.
It's honestly taken at least a week to get back to normal. And then THanksgiving. And Hanukkah is early this year. I feel like I'm SO far behind right now!
More updating soon, I promise.

Amanda

Wow Amanda!! That's really great about the timeshare. Glad you're finally starting to get back to normal.

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Woohoo back to Disney... Doesn't that make it all better?!!! Is the marathon in January?
I got my flights for July the other day... $838 for all of us!!! I am so psyched I think that's the cheapest I've ever paid!
Happy to hear your good news. And please you don't need to apologize for not updating!!!! Just glad you are safe.

That's great airfare!!!! Our trip in February is a lot more - mostly because it's a school break week.

I hate how airfares are more expensive then!!! It really gets to me b/c those are the only times I can go. I wish we could go at off peak times of yr. that would be fantastic!

I think it ended up being almost $400 per person. Times 5.

That's not that bad for a school vacation. The flights for April vacation were $400 one way!!!! Needless to say that's why we switched to July.
I have some news to share with you too. DH was officially offered the job in FL ( I think I had mentioned it a while back but not sure) well anyway if I didn't get a job in Sept. this yr. we were gonna have to move. But since I got one we didn't.
But DH's old boss offered him and 2 other people he used to work with new positions down there. He will be commuting (sounds funny doesn't it??!!! Commuting to FL from MA) He'll be working 1 or 2 weeks. a month there and work from home the others.
This will be a huge adjustment for my family but its better than moving. The bonus to all this is, we will be buying a condo down there and will be able to go more often!! Woohoo! Our plan has always been that we would move there permanently after both kids graduated.
Hoping now that DS15 can go to college down there for reduced tuition.
Sorry about hijacking your thread!! I think the more I talk about it the better I feel. I really needed some convincing in the beginning.

It'll be very hard for the family to adjust but it will become the new normal before you know it! Then you'll have Florida Resident APs and tons of frequent flier miles. How perfect is that!
Tom and I lived apart for 2 years and saw each other every weekend. Not easy but we survived!

My emotions are so crazy right now!! I am happy and scared to death all at the same time! So excited about the APs, and going more often but just not sure about everything else. Thanks for sharing about you and Tom making it work. I know my DS15 will be just happy he doesn't have to move.
We are going to buy a condo so I think we're going to try to rent it when not using it.( 1-2 weeks a month) So let me know if you're interested :thumbsup2
