9-08-2010 Pirates through the Mediterranean/ Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Us

We are doing most ports on our own as well--First DS cruise and are abit OVERWHELMED with all the planning. Have read TONS and would be open to anyone who wants to train it with us to some of the different sites--cique Terre we are going to hike all the towns,Malta we are going to rent a car (husband did a semester there in college a long time ago) ROme--well--we'd actually like to go to Tuscany but would be open to sharing a private tour. Still figuringit all out............

Hey, Im not so sure how to use this board but--My husband and I are cruising for our 20th anniversary--leaving the three teens home! (the first week of school--What were we thinking!!) And am wondering if there are any other couples out there going without their kiddos-- We would love to join in on some private excursions if you have space to fill. Weve done TONS of research but so far are planning to do most everything on our own unless something comes up--We really would like to do Pompeii/and the amalfi coast on our own--with others(safety in numbers!:) or a shared private tour. We're pretty adventurous. Same with Rome/or rent a car and see Tuscany. Any openings that people might want to share we're pretty flexible. Or, any encouragement if you've cruised before--this is so new to us!

So I have started not sleeping well this week. I think it is vacation related, between dotting my "i's" and crossing my "t's" for work and home. I will be gone from work for 1 month. So much to do at work before I leave, I have been working 10-12 hour days and 1 day on the weekends. Then there is home, trying on clothes and getting things organized to pack (hoping only to have to do laundry 2 or 3 times). Finally there is the vacation. I usually takes me 3-5 days to unwind before I can start to enjoy vacation, which puts me to our 1st day at sea. I am trying not to get too stressed out (as I don't want to get sick). I keep saying as long as I have my passport, credit card and bank card I should be able to survive. Thanks for listening...

I leave in 2 weeks and 1 day...I have 4 days left to work. DD caught 4 poachers today so far on the Kilimanjaro Safari and saw Luna the baby elephant for the first time.

Hey, Cruisefor20! Congratulations and Welcome aboard! I also came late to the party. These boards are completely new to me, but have been very helpful. One of my best friends is celebrating 50 this year and we are doing a "girls trip" to celebrate (wonder why my husband didn't want to join us!!) We just decided to try to join up with others to lessen the cost of the Italy destinations so I was thrilled to see your post. We really need to do the basic tours in both Rome and Naples, so would be happy to negotiate! I agree...the overload of info has caused complete brainfreeze!

I am the same way. That is why we are getting to Barcelona on Monday. Hopefully once we get on the ship we can unwind. At least our flight is shorter than everyone flying from the US.
The only thing I hate is that I have a work Blackberry that I will have to check in every port. But since I am not there it will be no stress.

If you don't mind me asking, what Park does she normally work at (or does she go to all of the reserves). We took a 2 week safari through Kenya and Tanzania and had the best time of our lives. Loved it.

For all of you (us) arriving early in Barcelona, if anyone wants to meet for a quick hello???
We were thinking about Tuesday evening before we leave on the CRUISE!!!!!
All are welcome, including kids!!!!

I located the address of the tapas bar we found on our last visit.
It is Tapas Tapas, Passeig de Gràcia, 44.
We are arriving in Barcelona 3 September, and have booked an apartment for us, and 2 Disfriends.

We will have internet access while we are in BCN, so everyone let us know what you think about this idea.

See you real soooooon!!!!!!!

Ok..we just decided we are definitely gonna book a private Rome tour. If you are interested in joining us, just let me know!

Hi!
If anyone is booking a private tour for the 2 ports in Italy besides Rome (I think we are going to try to do Rome on our own) and has 2 adult spots open, we are very interested. We booked super late so we have nothing planned but the cruise and flights. We are starting to work on hotel ressies in Barcelona. We will be getting in on the 3rd so I'm not sure if we may be trying to get a cheap flight to Paris for a couple of days or maybe even London. We will definitely be back in Barcelona by the 6th. Hope we can meet up before the cruise if anyone is in the area then. I like the idea of meeting up at the Tapas bar. Sounds like fun!

We may very well be interested! What Tours are you planning for Naples and LaSpezia?

Well we are pretty much game for the normal stuff since we have never been to Europe before. Sorrento, Pompei, maybe even a shuttle to Capri, IDK. We can't do anything like climbing Mt Vesuvius  since my daughter is still recovering from her Lupus Flare. I just got 7 stitches in my toe a few days ago from a pair of pruning shears (you know...the giant pair of scissors) hit my foot so I am hobbling along right now with the big blue boot. :rotfl: I should be feeling better by then but I know I won't be ready for extensive hiking or walking. 3-4 miles or less is best. Maybe we can do something together if we can get 4 more people. I remember someone on another thread saying it's around 90 Euro or less per person that way. I just can't plan it.... as much as I want to. We can be seat fillers to help drive the price down on someone elses trip though. If anyone has openings we are game!

OMG! It's almost here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two weeks from tomorrow, we'll be on our way to Barcelona!

Got the suitcases out today, called the credit card company to tell them I'm taking it to Europe, and called verizon about my options about taking my cell with me (to send quick e-mails to friends and family back home)...

But my blackberry wont work in Europe, so they can loan me a phone, with unlimited web and e-mail for $2.15 a day(as long as I dont use it on the boat)...not sure if I should do that, or just rely on free wi-fi and use my i-pod touch when in port....what are others doing? I dont really want to pay an arm and a leg for the sloooooow internet on the ship!

This sounds fun! If we are still standing after arriving that morning, shopping for beverages and a 3 hour bike tour that afternoon, we may try to go!

She just does Safari for fun on her days off! She did that for her summer job last year. She works in a different part of the company right now. :woohoo:

I've been giggling about this today. I think that 1st Cruise misunderstood your post and thought that your daughter works in Africa at the game preserves! 1st Cruise, her daughter works for Disney at Disney world, and drove the Kilimanjaro Safari tours at Animal Kingdom last summer. I think I'm giddy about the trip, but this struck me as absolutely hilarious! :lmao:
