FYI...

In researching the additional fee I found on the Panama Canal website - http://www.pancanal.com/eng/maritime/tolls.html - the additional toll charge is based on a “per berth” not “per passenger”. The fee is $100 additional for 2007 and $115 for 2008. I have no problem spending $115 per berth for 2008, but $100 per person fee needs to be explained by DCL.

I think someone already responded on this - but "per berth" does pertain to "per individual" or "per bed" in maritime terms.

We should be thankful it was not "per alcholic drink" or "per rum serving" while in Panamainian waters, eh?

For those who did not know (can't remember if I posted it or just through PMs --old age setting in this morning), Europe is the reason we canceled the cruise. SWMBO came back from Paris talking about how much she wanted to take the kids over and we had a family meeting and the kids were much more interested in England and France then cruising again. So we are off plotting a tour of the UK, followed by a day in Paris, and of course, a stop to see our Pal Mickey at DL Paris.

John that's great! Please make sure to take tons of pictures. Like someone said earlier, I will get there in my next life!!!

Usually on ships, a "berth" is not equivalent to a "cabin" or room. It used to be a reference to a bed on a ship - a cabin might have 3 or 4 "berths". From reading a lot of very confusing text on that website, I think that the Panama Canal Authority is charging passenger ships the $100 per person for their "rated capacity" - I think that is 2,400 for the Magic. If that is the case, this new tariff will increase the cost of the Magic going through the canal by $240,000!!!!

This probably won't stop panama canal cruises for repositioning, but you wonder if the ones that just go 1/2 way and back (costs the same as a 1-way all the way through passage) are going to slowly disappear.

As I've posted before, I don't think DCL has invented this tariff and I don't totally blame them for passing it on - I do blame them for springing it on us. This has been in the works for a while and they should have warned us that there could possibly be a LARGE increase in fees. Since they didn't warn us, I think some sort of good will gesture would help provide some sugar for this bitter medicine!

Trying to get DH to live up to his threat of waking me up early to go to the gym. Unfortunately I think the shots he got in Feb are starting to wear off
Just sent another email to DCL regarding the Castaway Club #. I got the new cards a few months(?) ago and DH wasn't included. Of course they sent the 2nd one to our son. Like Cheryl, we are still waiting for it. I got an email from them last week but the CC# they sent me is different from the NEW card they sent. But it allows me in. I asked them if this is going to be a problem in May when I try to secure some reservations. Also asked if they were aware of how many of us were to be accessing the web at the same time?
The only other cruises I can think of with such a large amount of repeaters would be the DVC and wasn't there a NJ cruise? Wonder how they fared?

Laura great to hear you got there ok.We will all be experiencing it through all the great blogs and reports.

Arlene when we get there in Sept. Cheryl and I are just going to go to DCL and pick them up.

We have been upgraded for FREE ....I repeat we have been Upgraded for FREE..

I was surfing the net this Morning and went to DCL to look at my Resi and OMG there it was , our stateroom had changed to 8074 ... I was like Okay , what happened ????.. So I called DCL and we have been confirmed on an Upgrade from a Cat 6 to a Cat 4 on the Med Repo ....

I know for some this is not a big deal but I thought it was wonderful ...

I guess they knew Ole Captain Jack needed a little extra room ...

So I repeat we are now in room 8074 no longer are we in 6104 ...now I have to change my Magnets ....
