The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I think my dd and I would faint if we got to see Aaron.

I'm thinking of finally going to see him. He's been in it twice, and I regret not going. But, the story is a downer. Yet seeing Aaron might be worth it.
He was amazing! As soon as I saw he was coming back for a few months and it was when we were there I bought our tickets.

My dd and I have been season tickets holders for our local Broadway season for 12 years, and have seen enough shows that we each have 5 plastic boxes full of playbills, but only two have been on Broadway itself. That was during a NYC vacation. I have never gone just for show, no matter how many times I have wanted to. But his morning I bought 4 tickets to the Outsiders in mid September! That has been my favorite book for about 45 years, and I have read it dozens of times, and I just HAD to see this with the original cast. I was so excited I was shaking when I pushed the button. I cannot wait!!
We are back, from seeing The Outsiders Saturday evening. I cannot even put into words how I feel about the experience. Magical, surreal, perfect. I am still on cloud nine. And we had every single principal cast member, only one US for a background character! I was so afraid Brody Grant or Brent Comer would be out, but they were all there! I managed to choke down my tears in the first few minutes, out of the pure joy of what I was seeing. But Act 2 comes, and well. When Stay Gold started, I lost it completely. There was an old man sitting next to me, in his sport jacket and his slightly slow shuffling walk, who was crying almost as hard as I was. He started digging his pocket, and pulled out a napkin to wipe his face, and he pulled out two and handed one to me. It was so sweet. I can't believe I didn't take kleenex. I knew I would cry, but I didn't realize half the theater would be sobbing also.
We did dinner at The Perfect Pint before the show, on the roof. That was good, we enjoyed. I am NOT a night owl, but after the show I was too wired, so we went back to the roof for a couple more drinks, and went back to our room about 1. So not me, but I just didn't want to night to end. It was so perfect and I will forever be grateful I was able to see the full original cast on Broadway.
Came home with two tshirts, a magnet and a mug (and I don't drink coffee LOL).

I saw The Great Gatsby yesterday. Jay and Daisy were played by the understudies and while we were disappointed, we don't believe that we suffered in any way because of it. They were amazing!

When I saw it in August, Daisy was played by the understudy and she was amazing!

I found out today that Disney and Broadway have a connection that I didn't know about. On Broadway, there's a venue called "The Broadway Theater". It's currently showing a Broadway musical, the Great Gatsby. However, in a previous "life" the Theatre was a movie theater, the movie theater where "Steamboat Willie" debuted. So if anyone goes to see "The Great Gatsby", they're sitting in a little Disney history.

Well, that's cool! I saw TGG in October and it was very good. We were talking to one of the ushers who also worked for Aladdin. Didn't connect the dots when he said that, but now it makes sense.

I hated the book in HS and because I enjoyed the musical so much and my tastes have changed since I was 16, I thought I'd read it again. I had to put it down. I don't like it, but the story is great!

Haven't seen TGG, but saw Fiddler on the Roof there when I was a freshman in college!

It's been a hot second since I last saw a show in the city, but younger sister has been dying to see The Outsiders since it debuted (she's a huge fan of the book and the movie), so I got us tickets to see it in April as her Christmas gift. Can't wait!

Some of you may have heard or read the rumors that Hugh Jackman & Sutton Foster were together since doing The Music Man.

A week ago, The Music Man was finally able to start previews for the show. Today, Hugh Jackman has announced he now has COVID. :badpc:

Not at all surprised, seeing as Sutton tested positive. They share too much air (and other things 😉) for there to be any chance of him escaping it once she had it.

Then they each announced they were getting divorced from their respective partners. . .

Last night they made it publicly official with a date night out in Santa Monica.

While reading old Disney magazines, I found an article about “Fantasia” - it also premiered at the Broadway Theatre, on November 13, 1940.

Theater lovers... what's up? Had to rescue this thread from page 19. We are going to NYC soon to see Caberet, Floyd Collins and The Outsiders. Usually have every day packed full but not this time. We have been watching Younger on Netflix and that's the first time I've seen or heard anything about the Sea Glass Carousel. If we head down there to see it, is there anything else in the area that would be interesting not related to Ellis Island, the Statue or 9/11?

Some of the things we have enjoyed previously, 5 bridges E-bike ride, Transit Museum in Brooklyn, the American Kennel Club Museum, NY Historical Museum, Yankees game, walking tours of Harlem, walking tour of Chinatown and Little Italy, graffiti tour of Brooklyn, walking the Hi Line, Little Island, and shopping, shopping, shopping. We have done most of the traditional tourist stops in Manhattan. Any ideas for late Winter/Early Spring?

We do most meals from Trader Joe's with usually 1-2 new to us restaurant meals. Last time we went to Sylvia's in Harlem. was thinking this time of trying Jacob's Pickles. Maybe a burger lunch somewhere like Morton's? or would Peter Luger's be worth the trip? any other suggestions? We usually do one meal from Halal Guys and Sunday brunch at Magnolia.

Also, if Parade is coming to your town, go see it. I really never heard any hype about it but we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

If you might like Broadway theatre history, the Broadway Up Close tours are great!

We saw Parade, the tour apparently started here in January. It was weird, because some of the music is catchy sounding and cheery, yet it not, it's depressing. It was a very good show. The director sat down in the row in front of us. DD is a huge fan of his and geeked out. I had a pen in my purse, and she went over and had him autograph her playbill.

Our new season was released in Mpls and frankly it sucks. I will be selling at least half of it.

I think I have dh agreeing to fly to one of the Texas tour stops for The Outsiders, as I cannot wait until at minimum late fall 2026 for it to come to Mpls. I have to see it again.
I have since my last post, had Stay Gold tattooed on my arm :-)
And not Broadway related, but we are going to a screening of The Outsiders movie on Friday with a chat and meet and greet with C. Thomas Howell.

Interesting to hear. We traded away our Parade seats. Didn't seem like a topic we "saw" as a musical
