Where is the "other" option on the poll. My 6th grade girl gets most of her clothes from Target, occasionally Kohl's and a few items now and then from Wal-Mart. We don't shop at any of the places on your list - all too expensive. We see no point in spending that kind of money on stuff she'll outgrow in a few months.

I'm impressed that you know where her clothes come from. DH might be able to guess, but he wouldn't be certain. Lucky for him, I'm thrifty.

To the OP, how about cash? I've decided on giving cash instead of gift cards to teens/tweens. They can use it wherever they want to and aren't restricted like a gift card. I hate when my kids have a $20.00 gift card and only spend $18.00 of it. I've been known to give these leftovers to the next person in line. Depending on the store, I may not be back for a long time.

I didn't even mention that her jeans frequently come from Goodwill, though I don't think they have gift cards.;)

She did just buy a couple of pairs at Penney's as last trip, we couldn't find any that fit at Goodwill and she really needed some new ones.

My DD is in 6th grade and her favorites are Aeropostale, Abercrombie, Hollister and American Eagle. The past few years Limited Too was her favorite but now she considers their clothes a bit too babyish for her. :confused3 She does like their jewelry and accessories better than Claire's though.

Oddly enough, she thinks the Hollister and Abercrombie stores are too loud (the music) and too dark, so if it's her choice, she prefers Aeropostale.

Her favorite place for sneakers is either PacSun or Zumiez.

What sizes do Aeropostale & American Eagle carry? My DD in 5th grade is big for her age and is in that in between size - really getting too big for kids clothes, but I guess I don't really know where the clothes go after that. Do they start wearing Jr sizes? And how do they typically run? My DD has a kind of thick middle, short legs and a long torso, so she's sometimes hard to fit.

What about Aeropostle? That seems to be pretty popular here and sometimes they have 50% off everything in the store especially after Xmas.

This is the favorite around here, too!

My DD13 is petite. She can finally fit in the pants at Aeropostale. She wears a 00 there. My guess is that is equivalent to a 14 or maybe a 14 slim in girls size. Some of the tops they have start at XXS, which is probably around a girls size 12/14. Tops with a lower/cleavage cut can be a problem, so we just avoid them.

Thanks - I guess maybe was need to try a store like that - I guess I always just thought those stores were for older kids. I'm sure she'd like the clothes and maybe I could try her in like a 4 or 6 or something and go from there. She's getting to where to 16 girls are becoming tight on her.

Thanks again!

My dd is 10 and she loves Limited Too. She is thin and their slim line slim fit are perfect for her. She sometimes can fit into Old Navy and Gap but generally Limited too is her favorite. And claire's is right up there too.

My daughter prefers Justice over LTD2. However, she also likes Aeropostale and some American Eagle. But we also shop at Kohl's and some Target. She also likes Old Navy.

But we find most of the Justice, Aeropostale American Eagle, Abercrombie and some Hollister at the goodwill store! I've also found some Forever 21 there as well.

The Goodwill is a good friend to me.

When I first started shopping for my DD at Aeropostale, I just had to guess her size and she kept trying on things until we found the right fit. At Limited Too, she was a 14 1/2, 16 or 18. At Aeropostale and AE, Ive been getting her a size 5/6 short (sometimes7/8 short) in jeans and a regular 5/6 for capris, shorts and skirts. For tops, I tend to go with an XL only because the shirts run very small and my DD still has a bit of a belly on her and she doesn't like tight clothes.

Is really is a difficult age to shop for. Good luck.

DD11 is in 6th grade. She loves Abercrombie, Hollister, and American Eagle. She is completely over Limited Too. We did still shop some at Lmtd. Too last year but I doubt we will again.

The stores that she loves now are expensive but they have some great sale areas. You just have to watch and check back.

My daughter is in 7th grade and all her and her girlfriends want to wear is aeropostle, which is fine by me nice clothes, cheap prices. I don't like Hollister or Limited :goodvibes overpriced cheap made clothes that don't wash well. :goodvibes

Maybe my daughter is right and I am the "meanest mom in the whole world!!";)

Luckily for me she doesn't like to go shopping and doesn't have a favorite store!! She wears what I buy which I always get on sale (from a variety of stores). Trust me, I am not complaining because I am very fussy about what I buy )and of course, it needs to be on sale.....

Out of those stores, my dd(11) picked abercombie but they r so expensive!!! She would love Aeropostale just as well and their clothes are very well made and not too bad on prices (lots of sales!)
Limited too is high too, but we shop there only off the sale racks, which is about all I`ll pay for her (I spend more on her clothes than I do my own!)
She also gets very excited to get a Claires gift card..................they always have a great sale wall (sometimes as low as 15 things for 5 bucks, so it goes a long way!)
HTH`s!

In 5th grade, it was Limited 2. By the time my DD hit 6th grade, it was Hollister and Aeropostle. She's also a big fan of Claires for accessories.

I agree. There was a big change from 5th grade to 6th grade with DD's choice in clothing stores. My DD was all Limited Too (through 5th grade) until this summer. Now it's all Aeropostle and Hollister. We don't have an Abercrombie store here but one is opening soon, so I'm sure that will be on the top list as well.

When DD was in 5th grade the clothes at Hollister were too big except for the XXS t-shirts. This summer she was wearing shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops from Hollister. This fall she loves the hoodies and has most of the polos for school. The pants are still too long, but the Aeropostle jeans size 00 fit her like a glove. Those are the only jeans she'll wear now and on sale at $24.99 with a $10 off $50 purchase I'd be spending the same amount at Kohl's or Target.

These "expensive" stores all have sale areas. I don't pay full price. I just bought DD some cute layered shirts at Aeropostle for $5.99 each (for next summer), retail priced at $24.99. I picked up some Hollister polos for $9.99. Check the sales online, too. They are pretty good.

One thing we've never been able to do is buy stuff a year ahead because we never know what size she'll be or what will fit. DD is tall for her age and also very slender so fitting her is often a challenge. Stuff we get her in late August to start school often has to be replaced by around Thanksgiving because it no longer fits. Forget buying it a year in advance.

Thanks for all the replies!

Any more voters?

A lot of our clothes come from Old Navy, Target and GapKids, but this is a giftcard for a special gift.

My DD is 15. We apparently don't have Justice around here as I've never heard of it. We do have Buckle which she likes.

Her favorites this year seem to be:
Hollister
American Eagle

She also likes
Deliahs
Pac Sun
Wet Seal

She'll still wear stuff from Aeropostale but that isnt' her first choice these days.

My 6th grader likes Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Macys and Old Navy. Limited Too and Justice are too "girlie girl" for her.

I voted Justice but my 10y old 5th grader likes Old Navy a lot too. She wears a 12 typically and I really didn't think she would fit into things at Hollister or Aeropostal. I always thought they were more for teens and in junior sizes. What size do they start at?
