2012? No Problem...but when?

I have been wanting to make a camera strap for a while now. But I was too chicken to cannibalize the one I had for the hardware. Once you take it apart, there is no turning back!

The one that came with my camera was thin and way too short. Since my neck surgery I have to be careful about putting weight on my neck and shoulders. The way it was designed, all the weight was on one spot on my shoulder. After about 5 minutes my neck would hurt and I would leave the camera in the car...it rarely ever made it out to the park!

So, my idea was to make one longer so I could wear it cross body, distributing the weight a little better, and wider (also helping with the weight distribution) and padded for comfort.

I found tons of tutorials and patterns, but none were exactly like I wanted. SO after a few weeks of stalling I finally did it!

Saturday morning I decided I wanted to make something for myself. I had finally finished my Super Secret project and it had been mailed. I was ready for a change.

I started by cutting the fabric. I knew I wanted it to be reversible, and I wanted one side Disney and one side regular. So of course, I chose the Minnie dots in red and white for my Disney side and looked through my stash for something 'regular'. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, but figured since it was just the prototype I could just put a black and white print with it. That way there would be lots of contrast.

After cutting, and quilting it...I got very brave and turned the seam ripper to the old camera strap. It was a big step...but I figured I would never know unless I got to it...

It really wasn't that bad. It went together better than I had thought it would. I really like it! In fact...I will be using the prototype at Disney this year.

I now think a pocket would have been nice...I could have put my cell phone in it...and had both of my cameras together in one place. Or maybe my photopass card could have gone in there...

Anyway, I am going to attempt to post a picture of it below...it is works, well that's great...but if it doesn't all I can saw is it was spectacular! LOL!

I know I already commented on FB... But I just love how this turned out!!! Love the fabrics and everything. I had never seen a camera carried Cross body until I met Mo - that is how she carries her's and it's a cool idea. I hope it works much better for you now.

Love it. I am actually taking my dslr this next trip. Have to capture the baby's first trip.

Here is the super secret project I have been working on...I know everyone has probably already seen it on FaceBook... but I could not resist posting it here!

Oh Nini! I had not seen this yet. I LOVE it. It was so nice of you to quilt that for Wendy. All the squares are so unique and Angie did a nice job piecing it together. :-) :-) :)

it came out totally awesome. I love it.

Thanks everyone...It is nice to actually do something I can be proud of once in a while!

A few months ago, you may remember my issues with the Brother store about 90 minutes away from me and the rudeness of the 'gentleman' who owns it.

It all started because the buttonholer stopped working...out of the blue. I was so upset about the whole situation and the way the machine was messed up afterwards that I don't remember actually checking the buttonholer out. (I'm pretty sure I did...just used my old machine on the button holes I needed so it wasn't a major issue at the time)

Today I was making an A Line for Miss Mia. Her daddy had requested a Bama dress for the first game of the season. All I needed to do to complete it was to make the button holes and put on the buttons. Her Daddy brought the buttons and I set down to make the button holes...no dice. It is doing the exact thing it was doing last May or June.

I am so upset!

I now have to find time to get to the NEW place about 2 hours from me... I guess I might as well take the embroidery machine in at the same time.

Unfortunately, school starts this week, so I doubt I will get time to take care of it until the following week.

Anyway, here is a picture of the dress before buttons and button holes...

You know how they say everyone is always complaining about the weather but no one ever does anything about it? Well here is my contribution to that! LOL!

The weather this year has been strange. I live in Georgia. It is supposed to be hot. We moved back here about 25 years ago. I grew up here. During the summer it rarely rains. You get just enough rain to keep the humidity up, but by the end of summer things are ready for the cooler weather (which doesn't really come until October) and most you from plants are turning brown. A pool is invaluable here.

This year we have had few days in the upper 80's...and few days that have not rained. As a result we have been able to get in the pool (because, let's face it...life doesn't always care that it is the only sun shining in the past week...if you have appointments you don't get to enjoy the pool) but maybe a handful of times. I personally have only gotten IN the water twice!

On the day school starts it is supposed to be sweltering! At least my kids have it better than I did, schools have an air conditioner now to keep melting. I didn't start school until the first week of September. My kids are starting school tomorrow. It will be in the low 80's tomorrow, dropping into the mid 70's for the next week to 10 days.

We don't buy long sleeved clothes for the beginning of school. We take advantage of the sales on summer clothes to get their "Back To School" clothes. It gives us a little break before we have to get all those cool weather clothes...and keeps them fitting longer!

My kids are going to freeze tomorrow morning when they get up at 5am to go to school!

I love the dress Nini - it's so cute and tiny. ;)

The weather has been weird here too... It was VERY hot and humid there for a few weeks - then about 3 weeks ago all the heat and humidity left (not complaining...), I was slightly bummed though, because I thought all that heat and humidity was going to break us in nicely for FL in Aug... Oh well.

Cannot believe it is Back To School already... The girls go back 5 days after we return from Disney. I have not done a stitch of school shopping, other than supplies.

Don't even get me started on supplies for school!!!!

The school sends out a list. We spend a fortune getting all that stuff...then last night we meet the teachers at middle school. EACH. TEACHER. HAS. A. DIFFERENT. LIST. Yup....even more stuff to get and the original list...not a SINGLE thing on it is needed!

Oh...an one teacher REQUIRES a black, blue AND red pen... this child of mine does good to make it to school with wither a pen or pencil each morning!

She actually asked me to home school her last night! Of course, she is the same child that yelled at me Saturday night and told me she hated me....

Nini

Weird weather here to. We still have our humidity if anyone wants it. I live about a mile from the Long Island Sound though so that could be it. I do live on an island. ;)

C doesn't want any new clothes for school but we are going to go shopping when we get back from Florida.

G is finishing the school supply shopping this week.

C has ac in her school J doesn't and J is the one who needs it LOL.

J finishes summer school today and is off for 3 weeks.

Unless you area friend on FB of mine you don't know about my major meltdown on Friday.

I have been trying to get things in order for Mr D to go back to public school (I think I should be having my head examined for that decision!)

Brief (as brief as I can be) Mr D's public school life ended when his special needs teacher and his principal locked in in a closet. They called it an isolation room (which is illegal in most states...as well as the state we live in!!) When I asked for documentation as to the authority to use it as well as documentation on their emergency procedures (like in the event of fire), I was not only refused but they retaliated against my son...set him up in a situation they KNEW would cause a melt down and called the police (yes, they threatened a special needs child that has the mentality of a three year old with being arrested!)

For the past 2 years I have home schooled him. He started asking for friends. Something I could not give him at home. So we started exploring the possibility of returning to public school in March.

School started yesterday. It was not decided what they would do with him until last Friday. Yup...took them that long to decide to put him in a school that offered him the correct classroom (against their wishes I might add) and to put him in a school that had the teacher that had locked him in the classroom teaching there!

Oh, you caught that did you.... it was a small piece of information they neglected to mention to me!

Not only is she in attendance at that school...but she is also in charge of the program!!!

So far, the school board has not taken me seriously! On Friday, THAT teacher is the one that called me to discuss what classroom was available for Mr D. Seriously! The woman that abused my son is the one in charge of putting him back in! I BLEW up! I informed her in no uncertain terms that she would NOT be getting a chance to harm my son again!

I then hung up on her.

The saga continued for several more hours and I will not bore you with the details... What I got at the end was a promise of a 'chance' for Mr D to prove that he did not belong in the self contained behavior classroom.

Since the old 'screw up and move up' is in effect...the promotion of the child abuser (see I AM still angry!) to being in charge of the hen house~!! ... I was told they could not guarantee that she would not have any contact with Mr D...because she is an employee of the school system (which, by the way she should not be and ... isn't that THEIR problem!) so they were bound to have contact at some time.

Of course, my response was that if there was I would get a restraining order.

So...first that woman was the one to contact me; then I was not made aware of the fact that she is assigned to THAT school (that I have to drive for 30 minutes to reach while there is a school within 5 miles of me with the same program); then THAT teacher comes into my son's room (scarring him to the point that he hid under the desk....

Yup...I have had a great week so far ... and yesterday was only the FIRST day of school!!!!

On the Disney front...our last ADR has been made. It was one for my son and his wife on our arrival night. We will keep the grand princess with us and they will visit Epcot for a night alone. Then, on Friday they get another night alone while they visit Epcot for EMH that night.

So.... how has your day been?

Nini

Wow! Thirty-six years really goes by fast! Today marks our 36th anniversary! Let's see...five kids; hundreds of moves; two jobs; 10 Disney trips and maybe 20 cars later....Here we are!

I really wish I had some pictures of us back then...but since it was just us and the Justice of the Peace... no pictures!

I remember once, at my first OB appointment, the nurse asked me how I could stand to get married on the day Elvis died... my response was...how dare he die on the day I got married!

Nini

I missed your post yesterday... I am so angry for you after reading that... I am just beyond words. I do think you need to get a restraining order, because that seems to be the only thing you can do to protect Mr. D. at this point in time... Unless you home school again - which doesn't seem to be conducive to him making friends. (((Hugs)))

I am glad you were able to get your last ADR. :)

And - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! 36 years - AMAZING!!! Congratulations!

So, here is my second post for today!

I am having a minor surgical procedure done today. I am having three pilar cysts removed form my scalp. It will be done in the surgeons office. I have been looking forward to this for a long time. One is smallish, one is medium and one is very large. I have had them for all my adult life. They have grown a bit over the years, but since they are all in the back, I can't see them...and you can only really see them if you are washing my hair...or cutting it or coloring it...

When we got my new van last October I noticed that the head rests hit them...rubbing them as i drive...or ride... The seven and a half hour trip to Disney was so bad I thought I was going to die! (overly dramatic...but it did hurt!)

When I said something to my doctor she said...they were easy to remove and my surgeon could do it in his office. (that was in December) I finally got around to calling him last month!

Suddenly, yesterday evening I started getting apprehensive about this thing! The procedure will be done right after the consultation. (it is THAT minor!)...so I have no direct information from the surgeon or his office as to what to expect.

So, I did the only thing I could do...researched it on the internet...bad idea! LOL!!

The reports I read ranged from no pain at all to the most excruciating pain for a full 10 days! I am pretty sure I will be some where in the middle of these two extremes!

Number one... they are on the back of my head which means I will have to lay face down. I can not stand to lay with my face down. (I am severely claustrophobic) Number two... since my neck surgery there are some positions that I have trouble getting into...one is face down. Number three... I have bad migraines. Doing things to my head brings them on (I once had a mini stroke while having my teeth cleaned!). Number four... I have to sleep on my side. Again, having to do with my neck fusion surgery. I have a special pillow that holds my head and neck in the correct position...the largest cyst is going to interfere with this...Number five...I am a baby and am scared to death of how much pain I 'might' be in!

So, a minor procedure done under local anesthesia (which did I mention I am a terrible scaredy cat when it comes to needles ...though I give myself injections twice a week!) lasting only about 30 minutes has me terrified!

I would appreciate it, if around 4:15 this afternoon, if you happen to think about it, send a quick prayer up for me...

Nini

Happy Anniversary Nini. 36 years is a wonderful accomplishment in this day and age. YEAH.

I won't get into the Mr. D situation because I already gave my opinion and my mama instincts are in an uproar.

Good luck with your procedure I will be thinking of you.

Happy anniversary. 36 years is a great reason to celebrate.

Just wanted to give you a quick wave to say good luck with the surgery today.

I have been thinking of Mr. D. I hope you can find a solution soon.

Good Morning Every One!!!

Nope...surgery was postponed!

Seems I get to stress about it for another week. This is the second time the date has been changed. This weekend would have been perfect, since hubby is off...and the kids are out of school. Instead I go next Friday morning...after I take Mr D to school. I will have about 10 extra minutes to get there...so hopefully no traffic problems! LOL

Then, I have to find someone to pick him up from school afterwards...because I will not be allowed to drive. The coordination on this is going to drive me bonkers. Hubby can only get enough time off work to drive me home. Twenty minutes max. And on the way home we have to stop by to get the pain meds...sure would be easier if they would prescribe prior so we can have it ready. But surgeon says it depends on how things go during the procedure as to what I will need afterwards. (since I choose the less is more route!)

So, instead, we went out to dinner and then a movie to celebrate our anniversary! Dinner was only ok. Applebees used to be one of my favorite quick to get to places. I noticed that there is never a lot of cars there...and now we know why!!! The food was quick, the service was attentive...but the food was way less than stellar.
The medium steak for my husband was almost too well done for even me; the chips were greasy; my fries were hard as a rock (from sitting under a heat lamp too long)

We went to see The Butler. Even though I knew what it was about, I did not expect to cry so much during a movie. It was funny though...after spending three years in DC, it was shocking at the number of inaccuracies we found... like the barricades around the White House that were not added until after 911. Husband noticed a couple of things like the beer bottles from this decade being used in way too early time frames....and of course some things in Arlington. My husband did those funeral services for 3 years....it was easy for him to spot!

But overall, it was a GREAT movie. I really wish they would come out with a bit more cleaned up version so I could take the kids to see. I really think it would be beneficial for them both to see. Miss B doesn't understand why I am so upset about the racial bullying...I think this would give her a little bit of background in a way that I can't. I lived in Birmingham in the 50's and Atlanta starting in the early 60's on through adulthood.

I have my own stories of the racial tension going on in our country during that time ...but I can only tell it from the point of view of a Upper middle class white girl far removed from the violence. I would like for them to see it from the other side.

With them being bi-racial it is important to me for them to see both sides.

Anyway, for this movie, on a scale of one to ten I would give it a 9...while hubby would give it a 10.

Nini

Less than a full week of school and I am hating it already! I hate having to get out of my jammies so early in the morning!

Although I usually am the first person to get dressed...I hate that I not longer have an option....
