2011 Wine & Dine Halloween 5k Fun Run

I just got back from doing C25K - W2D3. I learned that I do much better when I listen to music when I run instead of a podcast. I also made the mistake of looking at W3D1 and I am TERRIFIED!!! 3 minutes of continuous running seems CRAZY to me at this point. I was dying a 1 1/2 minutes. Wednesday should be...interesting...

Good luck tomorrow! You can do it! I never did the C25K podcast but I find that running to Disney podcasts are actually really good! When I run to music, I feel like I have to keep with the beat of the song and it messes me up! When I'm listening to people talk about Disney, it sort of distracts me from the task of running!

Grrr. I just bought a new pair of Saucony's. Received them two days ago. Went for two separate 35 minute walks over the last two days and noticed the mesh has holes in it where my big toe (on each foot) lifts up when I walk. Hoping shoebuy will honor my request to call the pair defective and refund my $$$. Seriously, a $100 pair of sneakers shouldn't fall apart after 5 miles of walking, right?

I've poked through the top of a couple of pairs of my running shoes but I am very surprised it happened so quickly. If you were 100 miles into the shoes I'd say don't worry but after 5 I would be a bit annoyed. I would return them.

Hi Everyone,

I've been following this thread for several weeks now, but am finally going to jump in!

I'm SUPER excited to be registered for this years W&D race. I completed the WDW Half back in 2006, but haven't done a race since then.... life, kids, life, more kids, life... everything seemed to get in the way. We're finally are done growing our family though and its time for mom to take a breather and do something for herself.:woohoo:

I'm a walker only... last time around I finished in 3:12, but this time my training period is shorter and my *ahem* weight is much higher... so I'm just hoping to finish and not get swept. Tonight I did my 2 mile walk and was able to keep a sub-15 minute pace so if I can keep that up, I think I'm safe.

Looking forward to sharing this journey with you all... this thread has been very motivating to me over the past few weeks and I'm happy to be a part of it.

Megan

I actually love running to the beat of the music. Obviously it changes my pace with each song, but I found that to be good for me (personally) as it conditions my legs to go faster or take it a bit more easy. I only have fast tempo songs on my C25K app so I'm not going at a snail's pace lol. But I probably have more fun with it when I feel "in the groove" with the music. It's interesting how we all find different ways to keep us going!

I did return them. I've had Saucony's for years and never had this problem before, so I was quite shocked actually when I noticed the holes yesterday after two walks. That shouldn't happen. I'm considering switching to Asics for a change since I'm a little gun shy with Saucony's right now.

I am the exact same way! I just finished W3D1 and was thrilled that I was able to do both 3 min sections. My next run will be on Saturday and I will be in South Carolina. Lower altitude, but higher humidity...should be interesting!!!

OMG I know!! I was supposed to start W3 this week....but temps have been in the 100s going on into the evening. Plus my husband started a new work schedule so I have to figure out a new running schedule myself. So today I'll be doing W2D3 again before jumping into W3...and my goodness I am not looking forward to the jump. lol

You can do it!!! If I can, you can! :) Week 4 and 5 were the hardest for me, running .5 mile (3 times!) seemed insane. But I did it and now just knowing I can do it gives me confidence for the rest of the program. I was supposed to start week 6 this week but I stepped on a metal stake barefoot on Monday night and so my running this week has been postponed. I'm fine but my foot is really sore and running .75 miles just doesn't seem doable to me. I may repeat week 5 next week just so I'm not thrown into the .75 miles without having ran for a few days.

Thanks for the encouragement! I hope your foot is better soon!!!

Welcome Megan!!!

Thanks Taryn! I realized that I posted in the wrong thread... (after having a panicky moment wondering why my post wasn't in the W&D half thread). I see your name over on that one too, so I'll see you there!

:cheer2:Keep it up! :cheer2: Trust the process! I only started to run 1 yr ago (last June!): Joined a learn to run program, then did a 5k clinic (repeated it a few times, and doing a 10miler clinic now: will run 18k on Sunday! Woot! That's just over 11 miles! Last Sunday was 16k! It's addictive!
The temps here aren't hot... barely warm! Sucks for summer, but great for running!
:woohoo:

I am super excited. We are suprising my 10 yo Daughter with this race, My WIFE AND DAUGHTER ARE DOING THE 5K and I am doing the W&D HALF. I cant wait. Does anyone know what the HALLoween medal looks like?

This is what last year's looked like (flanked by two Halloween vinlymations):

Just got back from doing W3D1... wasn't as bad as I thought. I thought I'd die doing the 3 minute runs, but it wasn't so bad. Maybe it's because I saw there were only 4 run sessions...which seemed more doable than 6 or 8 from the previous weeks. Let's see if I can keep that mentality up. :)

Love that medallion by the way!

Is the Halloween 5K "medal" that same every year? I have one from last year (my first ever 5K...I was disappointed that it wasn't metal, lol). I would love for this year's to be different since the fun run is in a different park. I'm sure that doesn't determine what the "medal" looks like...I would just like to add something different to my collection.
