2011 Wine & Dine Halloween 5k Fun Run

Is the Halloween 5K "medal" that same every year? I have one from last year (my first ever 5K...I was disappointed that it wasn't metal, lol). I would love for this year's to be different since the fun run is in a different park. I'm sure that doesn't determine what the "medal" looks like...I would just like to add something different to my collection.

I've been looking around online myself wondering if they would post a photo of this year's medal but I haven't been able to find one. I'm guessing that they may only do that for the longer races. I'm making an assumption that the 5K medal will be different, because it is at a different park, and most people would probably want a different style if they already have one from last year. For our family it doesn't really matter, but I can see why repeat runners would want a new style.

I am bummed. I am thinking that my little escapade with the golf cart on the 4th may have done more harm than I originally thought. (I fell off and it ran over my leg. We were passing a house that was on fire and I was trying to get to my cell phone to call 911 and I thought my Dad had already stopped so I stepped off. The whole thing is a total blur. I thought I had escaped with a scraped up knee and bruised ego.) I think I did something to a tendon in my left leg. It is really sore today. I just sat on the side of the hot tub and let the jets beat on it for awhile. It feels better now, but I think I am going to skip my run (W4D1) tomorrow and do a bike ride or something. My next run is scheduled for Saturday. I am really bummed because I was starting to feel really strong and I was looking forward to the challenge.

Obviously go by feel, but I would consider skipping the bike, also. Just to allow more time for a better heal.

Thanks for the advice. Would walking be ok? I am not se great at doing nothing.

Again, if the leg feels OK, then yes. If you are feeling a residual tendon pain then it may be better to rest.

This far out, missing a couple runs due to an acute injury is far better than created a chronic injury later in the game.

Thanks! It feels MUCH better today. I decided to do a leisurely bike ride and some stretching.

Ugh I am needing to run but it is too awful outside to do it. I don't know what I will do. Temps have been in the 100s for weeks with no relief in sight. It even hit 110 the other day...all this is before heat index. By the time the evening comes, it maybe "cools down" to around 100. I'll be in Chicago this weekend and plan on running once or twice while there... SO looking forward to a break from this high heat/humidity.

I live in Georgia and have a 10-month-old so the time I could run outside in the heat is very limited. I joined a gym at a church in the town I work in that has a limited M-F, 11:00am-2:00pm lunch membership for $15/month and I use their indoor track to run. It's not as exciting as outside but I'd rather be kinda bored and not dying of heat exhaustion. And $15/month is definitely worth it for me to avoid that awful heat. Try checking around at the bigger churches in your area - they may have something similar. :)

Hi guys,

Just wanted to post here and let you know....
If anyone is going to be around on 10/3/11, ADP and I are organizing a meet to benefit GKTW. Click the link below for details. There will be food, fun and prizes. Spread the word!!

Hi everyone!!

I am officially registered for the Halloween 5k! My goal is to run all of the WDW 5k's for the next year.

I have lots of reading to do to catch up on the thread. I'm hoping my parking question was already answered. ;)

I love your goal of running all the WDW 5k's. I'd love to be able to try and do that. One of these days I will get down there for the Princess 5k, if not the half. Just need to find a friend to train/run with me. Welcome aboard our thread :)

I agree! What a cool goal.

I would be thrilled to even make it to Disney twice in one year!!!
That's a cool, and achievable, goal!

I agree. It is so hard living so far away from the magic. :wizard:

Just saw on the Wine & Dine Weekend homepage that the 5K is 50% full. I wonder how many racers that amounts to. Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday. We are in the middle of the massive heat wave, hoping it will end by Sunday.

Thanks! My husband is probably not as thrilled about my goal. :rotfl: Although, for Marathon Weekend and Princess Weekend, I will probably be going solo. the goal will really all depend on when other events next year are. It may take me two full race seasons to get through all of the 5k's. We'll see. But, we gotta dream big, right?

Does anyone know what time the race will be over? I'm going on a cruise right after the race and am trying to figure out a port arrival time. Thanks!

Should take under an hour if you stick rigidly to the pacing guidelines. If you are taking the DCL transfers, you should have plenty of time to go back to your room and freshen up before the bus arrives.

Thanks so much! Also, I'm in the last corral, so I was curious at what time the race will actually start. We are driving to the port, so I need to have a drop-off time for our rental car as well.

For the princess 5K earlier this year, we were right in front of the wheelchairs. We walked it, without much haste, and finished with a clock time of 1:03:45.

If I recall, the race starts at 7, so based on that, you'll finish around 8, if you stop for pictures with your medallion, it may be an additional 10-15 minutes. Drive back to the resort, freshen up, check out, plus allow 60 minutes to drive to the port. Adding extra time to the estimated drop off time wouldn't hurt either. Unless of course it creates an additional day which would cost you more money.

Sounds like it shouldn't create too much of a time crunch at all. Thanks again for all the great info! I really appreciate it!
