2006 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC06 - October 22, 2006 Part 2

Here's a funny story that I shared with Stacy the night she was here, but it's been kept Hush Hush around here until today:

Wednesday night Bruce decided to go to the store at like 10:30. He hopped in my car (a Chevy Trailblazer---think fairly large SUV) that was parked in the garage and backed out. Now, every day when he comes home from work he parks his car (a BMW 5 series---think fairly large car) on the side of the garage in the parking spot there. Well, apparently, he's not too used to driving my car or something, because when he backed out and started to feel some resistance he only hit the gas harder. :scared1: Can you see where this is going? Yup. He had, for whatever reason, parked his car right behind the garage. And when the passenger side bumper hit of my car the front side panel of his car and made a big dent....he only made matters worse by hitting the gas harder and scraping my sage green colored car into his black one. :sad2: The good news is my car just has 3 or 4 black lines on the bumper, that will probably come off with either a good washing or buffing out. The bad news is his car is smashed.....and I mean smashed. The things that were coming out of my mouth weren't pretty let me tell you, as our oven just died and getting the stupid oil changed on his car is a $100 expense so I dont even want to know how much this is going to cost us. :sad2:

I had kept this story to myself because well, Bruce was pretty embarrassed and I yelled enough about it. Well, I went to a Tastefully Simple party last night, and after a few drinks, broke down and told my friends the story. Well my friend went home and told her husband who works with Bruce and I got a not so nice phone call from Bruce this morning asking why every person at work now knew how his car got smashed.

Yet through this whole entire thing, he still maintains that this is all my fault and because I keep the stroller in the back of my car, and it somehow  obstructed his vision and he didn't see the car in the driveway when he hit it. Yup. It's all me. :lmao:

YIPPEE!!! I am finished with my post-cruise DVC plans. I called MS this morning and added Friday night in a 1BR at BCV! We'll be headed home that Saturday evening, so that we can recoup on Sunday.

The only thing now is to see if my waitlist comes through for a BCV studio for the pre-cruise Saturday night. And, if it doesn't, no big deal, since I'll be at BWV anyway.

Now, we just need to know about the scheduling of MNSSHP and all of the ADRs.

It looks as if we might be staying until the 30th (Monday), so I have a few more days to go before I can call MS. :rolleyes1

We've never done MNSSHP before, but we're definitely planning on it this October! How far in advance do the tickets usually go on sale? And what is the approximate cost? :confused3

Thanks! :)

Hmmph. I always suspected that you were a trouble-maker. Just goes to show... Must be because of your defective pancreas. :sad2:

(Seriously, now - What a drag! Here's hoping that it doesn't cost too much!) pixiedust:

Karen - you may want to consider calling day by day, esp if you want to stay BCV as it's been really tight to get reservations there!

Diana - tell Bruce the Shark that I feel bad for his car!

Julie - Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately, we need to be watching our (lack of  ) points, so it will be OKW or SSR for us on this trip! Not that that's a heartache or anything! ;) It would be nice to be walking distance to Epcot, though. (We've never done the Food and Wine Fest before, either. Scary, huh??? :scared1: )

It will be a trip of firsts for us:
First Member's Cruise
First MNSSHP
First Food and Wine Fest
:yay: :woohoo:  :bounce:
(Can you tell we're a little excited?) :confused3 :rotfl:

Karen - Oooh we love SSR! Have you stayed there yet? That's where we stayed last year pre DVC cruise and it was great. Even the food court won us over - oh and their gift shop seemed to have the most DVC merchandise :thumbsup2

I'm staying at OKW in a GF with girlfriends in May and cannot wait.

We are excited too!!!

Karen - I wouldn't wait! Call day by day, that's what I did! Just tell them when your final check-out day will be, then just call each day to add on.

I see that Julie already mentioned calling day by day.

You're going to have SO much fun!!! Three of the best Disney things to do!!!

Good morning everyone!

Just wanted to share an opinion with everyone (one that might not be very popular). While we all love hearing about the cruise and I'm just as excited about new e-mails as the next person we can't expect the communication to be exactly the same as last time. Simple fact is that there is a different project manager this time, just as there was a different project manager on SSMC05 from SSMC03. We didn't get very many e-mails in '03 as we did '05.

Also I went back and read the ones from '05 this morning (they are on our '05 site if anyone wants to read them). E-mail number 2 was basically about the port of Key West and was especially helpful for those who had never been there. Since we aren't going to a non-Disney port this time we don't have to have that kind of research.

We were also very fortunate last cruise that we had someone who had found the DIS and was willing to share info with us. The new project manage just may not have the same style. Or, dare I say, may not want to face some of the problems that came with being so open.

So my plan for this cruise is much like it was for SSMC05. Plan very little and enjoy what surprises DVC has in store for us. In the meantime we all have each other. I still stand by the fact that as WONDERful as the Member Cruises are what makes them extra special are my DIS friends we share them with.

Just my 2 cents. Now having said all that watch the next e-mail come out today. :lmao:

I know what you mean, Mary! I'm ok with not knowing any details. I definitely know that it won't be bad, how could it be?!?!?!? I know that I'll have fun with all my DIS friends old and new!

Going to have to respectfully say that if that's the case I will be very disappointed and I do plan to continue to ask DVC for more information on a regular basis. Honestly I hope that because of some of the big announcements Disney has had lately that they have been otherwise occupied and I hope we get more info before our ADR window opens up and before many of us make other plans. I don't think it's too much to ask to have DVC say that "something" is being planned for Saturday night pre cruise - they don't have to say what, but that does allow those who are going for short trips to plan accordingly.

I also hope to have more info because, well, this thread is to page 400+++ and there is very little cruise talk; it's all chat (please please do not get me wrong, I enjoy reading it and contributing). I'm just wondering if some of those who haven't cruised before with anyone either going on this cruise or on other DVC cruises have not posted very much cause they feel they don't know everyone and it seems we all know each other well already. Yes, I hear you all now :lmao: that the only way most of us got to know each other is posting last year and then our excitement for this year! However, that doesn't make it any easier for others to follow the thread or get involved, heck I have trouble following some days :rolleyes1 but then again I am blonde

I would like more info to better plan our time at Disney but so we also have more cruise related items to speak about! :woohoo:

For the front design, we have lots of different options and no clear majority choice. Here are the designs:
frontvote.jpg

The Plan

Here's what I'd like to do. I think it will be easiest if you just post here IN RED your vote for the front design. I'll keep a running tally of the votes and we'll set a date of April 8th to close the voting. I really don't want to innundate the thread with t-shirt info, and prefer that you guys don't hate me for killing the thread with shirt stuff, so every couple of days I'll post a vote post with the choices again, short and sweet so any people who don't read back can catch it. I thought about doing a seperate thread with a poll, but this way everyone who checks the thread here won't have to worry about finding another thread somewhere else to post on, plus right now, we're only voting on the front design, so I don't think it will be as chaotic as could be. Once the voting closes, I'll get with the designer and upload the image into our cafepress store and we'll be open for business I'm estimating by April 15th!!!

Once again, I appreciate everyone's opinions and thoughts so feel free to pm me with anything about the shirts. These aren't MY shirts, their OUR shirts and I want to make sure everyone is happy with what the group decides!
D is for Dennis & D for me

Hey everyone,

I have been too busy at work to get online. When I get home, well DW needs a break from Baby IAN. I finished Taxes yesterday, so I have a little time to post...

BTW, Nephosaurus has started web hosting. If anyone is interested, PM me or him and I will send youa link to his website.

BTW, we have trip insurance and are renting a car and taking the bus back from the cruise.

I have a big problem though... My 25th year HS reunion will brobably be the night before the cruise...YUK!!!!!

I do know what you mean, Julie! I also would like to know about Saturday night. But, for now, I'm going to make my plans as if nothing is going to happen. And, if it does, I'll readjust. Personally, I didn't have that much fun at the pre-cruise meet at Pleasure Island. I don't know if it was because of the weather (which I know DVC can't fix) or the fact that I have 2 young ones that aren't entertained by PI, or what, but we didn't stay that long.

That sounds like Chris last year. The cruise was the same weekend as Chris's 20th HS reunion. He decided to skip the reunion, since he didn't have THAT much fun in HS.

And, this year, my cousin is getting married the night before the cruise in Portland. Well, guess what won out?!?! The cruise, of course. He's a cousin that I haven't seen in YEARS, and the cost for all of us to fly to Portland would have been crazy. So, since the cruise was booked first, we're staying with the cruise. Plus, it doesn't sound like any of my family (mom, brother, sister) are going to Portland either, so I don't feel too bad.

I know this is going to surprise everyone.....but I agree with you Amy. :lmao: I didn't that much fun at PI either. I always thought it was the rain, maybe the kids....but I'm thinking a lot of it was we were excited to finally get to WDW, tired from travelling, and even more excited to get to the cruise the next day. There was too much going on. I'm also just making my plans like there isn't anything going on and will change when someone tells me otherwise.
