09/28/2002 Cruise

Hello,

In regards to the reservations at Palo that DebbieMD can make 30 days prior to the trip, I believe that was part of the incentive that American Express was offering if you used it. It was part of the $250 package.

You are right with the American Express package for $57 you are supposed to be able to reserve Paolos for one night 30 days in advance; disney is supposed to send you a letter. I believe you have to pay both your deposit and the whole cruise with the AMEX card, which we did.
I will try to meet you all at the Radison at the port at the pool at 8PM. Friday night before we depart. I may be the only one there since my hubby is rather introverted.
From everyone's post I think we may just take the couch train when we arrive at Key West. I went there before on a Carnival Cruise and really liked it; thought the shopping was good and the food was wonderful. Remember sitting on the pier (I think outside or near the Hilton) and eating sea food and loving the turquise water.
I went to that bar everyone talks about in Cozumel and it was too rowdy for me! During the day I got off the Carnival ship and walked a block and paid $10 to go to a luxury hotel with huge pool and beach across the street. It was all you can drink too! THere was a bar on the beach and one right in the pool! I forget the name; all my friends went to the ruins, but I wanted a beach day. I went with a bunch of realtors on a Long and Foster Realtors sponsored cruise and it was 4 years ago. It was Carnival Ectasy and it was no where's near as great as Disney. There is virtually no comparison. Carnival is really a party and gambling ship that suits those in their 20s and those who want to party all night long. Disney is much more upscale and classy. I don't think I will every cruise on Carnival again. After being spoiled with Disney, why bother? I know it costs more, but it is well worth it.
I am looking forward to Grand Cayman since I have never been there; I think we will taxi to the Holiday Inn. I bet I will find others from our cruise there doing the same thing.
Oh, another tip--my husband bought the soda mug, but thought it was a hassle to keep going to the bar for refills; we bought some soda bottles (plastic) with us in FLA and also bought more at the islands and brought them back on the ship. We bought some wine bottles (in FLA) with us too.
I am glad this cruise is only about 60 days away. We can not wait!
We have a category 6 veranda on the 5th level since we wanted to be near the Oceaneer Club, like last year.

Hi Gang,

I'm away for a day( took DS to his freshman college orientation day) and need to read 3 pages to get caught up. I had to make notes so I am sure to hit everything.

Welcome to Donna and family to our happy cruise group.

Elaine--Thanks for linking our dinner reservations together for the 7 of us.. I'm sure we will have plenty to talk about over dinner.
Great minds do run together, I am also planning on doing a surprise treat from PA. It will also be small. To bad I'm not rich I could bring each family a Harley since they are made right here in York, PA.

Kimber---Thanks for checking on when we can make those excursion requests. So Tuesday is the day. As the rotation for the meals, here is the information from Tony and Barb (the castaway club) I pulled it off from a previous thread awhile ago.

Sat Casual regular menu at lumiers, animators, parrot cay
Sun Casual regular menu at lumiers, animators, parrot cay
Monday Formal regular menu at lumiers, animators, parrot cay
Tues Casual master chefs
Wed Casual mexical
Thur Semi Formal Captain's Gala
Fri Casual Small World

There is no special menu for formal night

Mary---Sorry about the computer. Been there done that and it stinks when the computer is down.

Beth E---Congratulations on losing 17 pounds. I have lost 70 pounds in the last year. On my last cruise in June, I ate what I wanted but just walked 2-3 miles every morning to work off those desserts. Clothes still fit by the end of the week. Your daughters can also wear their princess outfits when they have the Princess Party.

Hi to Power_ Alabama.

Karen--- Thanks for getting me a PA Mickey Pin. How is Riker doing? Is Ed still in England?

George--Someone had a nice trip report on going to the ruins. The bus ride was just over an hour. If I can find the link to her report I will email it to you.

Papa-- Hope the leg is getting better or I will just have to fly down to make a house call to evaulate it.

Thank God for the miracle that all the miners were able to be recovered safely.

I think I have rambled enough for one night. Another day closer to the cruise.

My darling daughter said I had too many emails in my box, I was making dinner and watching the news and just nodded and said uh huh, she must has said could she "clean" my box out and thought she was doing me a favor. I now do not have your reservation numbers. Could you email me with them? thanks Elaine

eshannon@ctcweb.net

Nancy--Riker is doing okay. Unfortunately, he has now lost almost all his sight. I remember someone on these boards saying they were a "Seeing Eye Human." Now, I am too. Ed is still in England. He returns tomorrow night--Hooray! We've been married 32 years, but I still miss the guy when he's away. Did I miss where you said your kids were attending college?

Elaine--in the e-mail clean up, did you get my message about working at a Disney Store? If it's gone, let me know and I'll give you the information again.

Hope everyone else is doing okay. The heat index here is supposed to be 105-110 degrees. How the heck do they know that? (I know, I know--temperature plus humidity) I just think we don't really need to be told that it'll FEEL like 110! Hot is Hot.

Maybe this'll prepare me for Mexico temps.

Happy day to all,

Karen

Spent a busy weekend and find that you are three pages ahead of me ... got caught up ..

DonnaMD - welcome, welcome, I'm sure you will enjoy this bunch, we're informative and fun. If you send me a PM with your mailing address, I'll send out a "package" that you may have read about.
(Also need names of those in your group for name tags).

Mary ... OMG Computer problems . UGH :( Hope the mailman brings you the parts you need and you get fixed up fast.

Mike ... How's the leg ... how did your tests come out ... how's your dad's hip?

Karen ... That's sad about Riker but I'm sure his other senses will kick into overdrive for him around the house where he is familiar.
AshLee says woof, woof!

I think we should all say a Thank You prayer for getting those miners out safely! It really was a miracle that we all needed.

Sat up till the last one of the miners was out of the mine and went to let AshLee out for her last "p" of the night before bed. When she came in and got in bed I noticed blood ... traced it down to her back leg/toes ... stuck on a bandage and hoped it was just a cut. When I got up Sunday and could see better, found that she had ripped off most of her nail and was still bleeding. Well got out the steptic pencil, some gauze, neosporin and tape ... got the bleeding stopped and now she is sporting this little pad around the nail. (Had to protect it in case she stepped in a one of her doggie land mines!) Boy is she milking this BooBoo Thing!

Name tags are all done up and sorted by DIS name for distribution. Outgrew the first case I had them in so now they are in a 3/5 card file box. WOW had our family grown.

Back to work......

DonnaMD ... I believe you are new to posting. See the little PM with the red X under each post ... that means Private Mail. You can use that to send out a private message that can only be read by the IDSer that wrote the post. Just trying to help you out. I also sent you an e-mail.

ALSO .... :bounce: Art & I both applied for passports (Just in case) 2 weeks ago Saturday. Well we got our passports processed and all done in Friday's mail. In case anyone wants to get them for peace of mind. They also return your original birth certificates in the same envelope.

Hope everyone's having a nice day .....

I guess we can book the excursions tomorrow morning. All we need to do is figure out what we want to do. :D I have three separate threads asking for help in choosing excursions - I should have done this long ago!! (If anyone wants to seek them out and post a reply, that would be great!! ;) )

I was going to phone DCL tomorrow morning. I know the phone number was posted earlier in this thread but I can't find it - what's the number to book excursions and what time do they open in the morning?? Thanks.

- Mike

Cathy -- got your PM. No problem--in fact I'll bring you two, so you & Mike don't have to share. Sounds like AshLee knows how to get sympathy. Riker is only our second dog in all the years we've been married. Our first one was a poodle. He was the biggest baby whenever he got a shot. He would actually limp around until no one was watching. As soon as he noticed anyone looking at him, the limp returned. My sons called him "John Wayne."

Riker is already starting to make more use of his other senses. (I think he actually lost almost all sight last week.) I've seen him sit down and lift his head and sniff. The Schnauzer ears are almost always at full alert now. We used to be able to tell if he was paying attention by the position of his ears. I'm a little worried that he isn't drinking enough water. I put him down by his water bowl and splash some water on his mouth. It is true: You can lead a dog to water but you can't make him drink. The little stubborn guy just walks away. Fortunately, he loves ice cubes so I keep giving him those to crunch on.

Bring a picture of AshLee along--I'll enjoy seeing Riker's DIS-friend.

Karen

From Papa!

[About the waffles at Topsiders, I love them! I don't like the syrup so each time we go to Crackerbarrel resturants to eat and I order pancakes or french toast I keep one of the Vermont Maple Syrup bottles. I have quite a few to take with me on the cruise. I am planning to have some with my waffles! In my opinion, there is nothing better than Vermont Maple Syrup and hopefully it will be just as good over a Mickey Mouse waffle.:bounce: We'll just see.;)

Well, well, well! Just when I think I have an original idea in my head......

Yes, I am bringing my little Cracker Barrel maple syrups with me also! This former upstate New Yorker can't eat anything else!!!

Cathy I have some wonderful news my dad came through his total hip replacement with flying colors. Not bad for a guy that is 75 years old:D Also had my egd (garden hose with tv camera) done today and my barretts esopahgus has healed itself.

Karen we have some peeks that are about 12 years old and they are stone deaf. One has great hearing, but he is almost blind as a bat. Some guard dogs, when you go through the kitchen you have to take your foot and ease them out of the way;)

Donna watch this group as they will make you have fun whether or not you want too.:p

Looking forward to meeting everyone and having the time of our lives. Mike

Hurrah for you, Papa! And your dad!
Fortunately, my Mom at 73 is younger in spirit and physical shape than I am (47) - she's the greatest! She will be the one who is out late dancing and having a great time after she tucks me and Michael (7) in for the night!

Glad to hear your Barrett's Esophagus is healed. I had a Nisson Fundoplication for GERD about 5 years ago - doing okay now but can't "pack the food" away like I used to - which actually is a good thing!

Anybody looking for an early seating with a nice group of 3 - let me know!

Mom is originally from PA, daughter of a coal miner, by the way, does that count for the PA list?!

Have a great day!
Rae (also called "Rae Ann")

;) ;)

Hang in there and thanks Rae. If you were dining at the late seating you would be more than welcome to join us. I am sure that there is someone in the group that would enjoy your company in the first seating.

Tell your mom we said hello and Michael also.

Mary hope that you receive your disc in the mail soon so that you can get back on the boards.

Elaine I feel your pain. Years ago when computers first started to become available I had typed a program in basic for about two hours. My DW was helping me because she could type faster and better than I could. She hit the wrong key by accident and it deleted everything.

Nancy leg is better although I am not going to run any marathons soon.

Tomorrow is the day to reserve excursions through DCL. Mike

Hey Mike & Dad :bounce: ing for joy over the good health news. Now Mike, all you have to do heal that leg!

Karen ... AshLee is our 3rd dog (OMG Don't let her herar me say that!) Our first was a beagle mix who go to be about 14 ... I think she had very little sight and used our first dalmation mix as a seeing eye dog for herself ... Our 2nd was Cindy, the dalmation mix that we had got a liver disease and we had to end her pain at only 6 years old ... then we got AshLee from the orphanage and now she is 8 and a little too plump for her height but non the less a spolied happy pooch. I'll bring her picture. She loves ice too.
You could try and make some beef broth and freeze it to get more fluid into him maybe. Good luck with him!

Gonna watch TV tonite and see if they have any more interviews on those 9 miracle guys from the mines. My grandfather was a miner and he got the inevitable asthma. Mines were a real big part of our town along with the railroads .. actually worked hand in hand with shipping the coal out of town, etc.

Hope Mary's getting her puter fixed shortly ... Bet she's :bounce: mad!

Back to work...

Welcome Donna! Thanks for all the info on your previous trips. First time cruiser here. Don't worry about your DH, mine is the same way. But he is nice enough to go with the flow.
Rae, Don't worry, got you and your mom down for the brunch. No rush on it, I will get a final count a few days before we leave.
Can't believe it is only 2 months away!
Rellingtwin is beside herself!:( :( She called tonight but I was out with DD buying school clothes. She starts middle school next week. By the time I got home it was 10 pm in SC, so I guess she was already in bed, dreaming of straggling the Dell computer man. I hope she gets up and running in time to do the 59 jumpy things.
Night all. Ave

And NOW it is time for the Alaska Fishing Report ....

Weather was moderate to sunny with choppy seas at two feet.
Red Salmon fishing in Eshammy Bay was moderate - Only Five
King Salmon caught off Perry Island while hunting halibut.
Halibut fishing was abysmal anywhere & everywhere.
Sliver Salmon off Culross Passage Point was AWESOME, having Nailed twelve in less than 1/2 hour ~ Equals TOO much fun!!!
Was exhausted when I went to work this morning. Whoa is me!

Princess Cruise Lines are alive & well tramping around Prince William Sound. Grand & Sea Princess just don't compare to MAGIC.

Have given up tyring to stay up with these pages although I do read them. Totally dependent upon Rellingtwin listing. God love her for doing that. Noticed that the "LOVE of my life" posted.

HH&GB to all

Glad that you enjoyed the fishing Dennis. Ave be sure and not let Mary strangle the dell dude as we need her to go with us. She does not need to be sitting in the crossbar hotel:p

Power Alabama has done one post, come on girl you can do better than that:)

Rae they did some research on the cracker barrel menu and the only thing that is healthy other than the fruit is the oatmeal;)

Come on September!!!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Mike

WOW! That was easy. I thought I'd have to call several times to get through to the shore excursion desk. One ring and I was connected. Glad to have that out of the way.

Hope everyone else gets what they want too.

Come on September!!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

What did everyone book? We're undecided on Cozumel. We prefer to do excursions on our own. Just need to figure out what!
