It was late and I was not doing well. Here is the family tree

Dan (Truffel) is married to Sue (clayfolks)
Dan brother is Michael (M & N Potter), I (stitchnbead3) am married to Michael
Dan and Micahel have a sister Laura (lpotter) who is married to Jim (not currently on disboards.

I hope that clears things up!

Great Nancy, that's exactly as I have it on my cheat sheet. It was just an incredible coincidence that two people accidentally referred to Michael as DS. I looked at your picture and decided there is noooo way.

John I absolutely agree with this all being so confusing. :confused3 I have spent countless hours trying to figure out who was a "Potter" and how they were all related. I even took into consideration a long-distance relationship with a certain pixiedust: wizard :wizard: as someone (cough, cough) has that magical ability to just snatch up pirate: & :bride: right and left...

This whole "Michael" issue now has me perplexed. Unless each branch of the family tree sprouts out a Michael, someone is sharing dna where it does not belong... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

As a side note, I have managed to make it through the worst of this darn storm here in NY. My area was hit pretty hard and the local town did a really bad job of managing the snow cleanup. Thankfully, with my local fire dept we had zero responses to injuries and no deaths due to the storm. We were able to continue full response with no delay. Unfortunately, at work we were not so lucky. We lost a Master Sgt. to a heart attack when the medical crews were unable to respond in a timely fashion due to the snow.

I really feel like it is time for this cruise already... :hourglass I keep seeing Rachel showing us more of the dream every couple of days, now it should be time for us to see it ourselves. :boat:

I hope everyone is doing well and for those leaving early, I hope each of you have a fantastic, safe, happy and healthy new year! party:

Hi Andy - we were actually missing you. Micahel and I commented many times that you were not around and we were hoping that everything was OK considering the weather.
Sorry to hear about the Master Sgt. my thoughts are with his family and firends.
And I agree, let's leave now!!!

PHEW! So there is just one Michael and no in-breeding??? That makes it a lot easier :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Thanks for the clarification Nancy and congratulations on your very own username and awesome signature.

Thank you for missing me. With everything that goes on around us these days, it truly is nice to have people notice something as simple as me not being active for a couple of days on a thread. :)

LOL I was one of the guilty ones of referring to Michael as "DS". Sorry!!! I should pay more attention. :upsidedow

Also, very sad to hear about the Master Sgt in NY. That's just horrible!

From what I saw on the news, there were plow/salt trucks that actually got stuck in the snow. When it's coming down that fast it's very hard for the snow plows to keep up. I'm not trying to stick up for your local town's snow removal or lack thereof, I'm very critical of our city's LACK of snow removal even in a 2 inch snowfall. But, in the big snowstorms (especially the ones that pretty much paralyze the community) I know it's a very tough job for guys driving the plows.

Someone had asked me once on here why Junior doesn't plow our driveway. Well....that's because he's not an independent driver. He actually works for the Town of Merrillville. If he were to plow our driveway he could get fired. There would be a lot of really ticked off taxpayers wondering why their tax dollars are paying for personal snow removal from a driveway. :scared1: I didn't want whoever asked that to think I was ignoring the question (I forgot about it until today, and I don't remember who asked...sorry!) :upsidedow

Well...I need to get off this computer and go get some cleaning done. DD has been sick this week, so I've spent most of my time at home cuddling with her on the couch. We went to the Dr. today and she has strep throat (sp?) Poor little girl...I had that once and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy (that is if I had a worst enemy....I don't have enemies! princess:)

Stay safe of snowstorms and earthquakes everyone! Oh, and tomorrow stay safe in the thunderstorms, too! Thunderstorms in December!!!! :confused3:confused3

The problem at work was that all the ambulances were snow bound. Unofficially, I have found out that NYC Mayor laid off a large amount of sanitation employees (sanitation plows NYC) shortly before the storm hit. The Sanitation Commissioner basically said he "did his best with what he had" during the storm. When pressed he said he needed more people, the exact amount that was laid off... He claims that there was no "slow down" or any other work action but they conveniently failed to plow in areas that strategically would be the biggest inconveniences. As an example, they plowed one lane on a parkway and half the ramps, exit ramp at one then entry ramp at the next so that even if your exit was plowed you still had to drive a distance to get on...

I support the workers and whatever it is, the mayor is wrong in laying off people. The problem is that this "showdown" between the union and administration cost may lives including an infant in the area of where I work and our Master Sgt.

As far as my local town, I have two friends that work there plowing. When I stated they did a poor job, it is stuff the workers find funny like plowing a 7 foot high berm along the roadway on one side blocking in the driveways instead of piling the snow along the roadway and purposely burying cars on the road by plowing snow from multiple directions onto the car. One driver even pushed a small car down one block so the owner would have trouble finding it.

I fully respect and support workers who are doing a tough job, I am disappointed with the ones that kick a person when they are down just because they can...

I took this very early on during the storm. I thought I would share it with all of you.

These are my two little ones. I also have a Shep/Chow/Huskie/Rottie mix (a lover not a biter) who was born for this weather, she was in heaven...
Our "Dug" would have loved to play with the snow chickens:)

So sorry to hear about your Master Sgt and the infant. I work in healthhcare and I'm grateful when I see the paramedics and EMT's come around trasporting patients to our unit.
On the way to Disneyland, we were lucky to miss the rain, snow and earthquakes :goodvibes It's very sunny here, not a cloud in the sky, just a little bit of wind and that's all. Rode the Columbia, ate Mexican food, took pics at DCA, got our FP's for TOT and WOC. Resting now at VGC. :cloud9:

This will have to do for now :rotfl2: Actually our girls got really lucky and were picked to be honorary Disney Captains, "Disney Steer" the Columbia around the Rivers of America, ring the bell and sound the horn, then sign their names in the captains log book. :sail: Mmmm, they have no idea that they will be on another ship soon enough....:boat: :beach:

So excited are going to be back at BWV in one week five days!!! :cool1:

I'm excited for you!

Wow...it sounds like they had no idea what they were doing! I'm sorry that the mayor laid off all those workers just at a time when they were really needed. It just so sad that two people had to pay the ultimate price due to cutbacks like that at the dumbest time of the year to cut back in that department!!

Very happy to hear from you Andy. So saddened to hear about your Master Sqt. and the newborn. Condolences to your department. I'm sure you have heard about our 2 guys who perished last week in a roof collapse. So very sad.

Guess I have to turn on the news to find out when and where it was centered. We felt nothing here in Indy.
A few years ago there was one centered around southern IL, which we felt here. Lara thought it was the guy upstairs doing something (or someone). I told her it was an earthquake, so we went back to sleep. I know Californians will criticize me, but we were tired.

Well then I'm glad no problems for you folks, good news.

By the way, any of you who work along-side roads, listen up. I also heard that roughly 150 police officers were killed last year. Only about half were firearm related. The rest were roadway accidents! So be very careful. This applies to a lot of people besides officers: firemen, ambulance, construction, utility, surveyors, etc. As a surveyor I know you get numbed to the traffic flying by at 60 mph, but the threat is always the same. So please try to remain alert.[/QUOTE]

Please add tow truck driver to this list. My DH MArk is a driver and people really disregard them. I know when I've gone with him it's scary the way people whiz by and beep.

Debbie sorry to hear about your DD being sick. We've had our share here too. Our DS had a tummy upset for a couple of days. I took MArk into urgent care today and find out he has bronchitis and double ear infections. Poor guy.

Everyone else be safe and Happy New Year!:

Hi Laura,

I did change the oil, and have winterized our other boat, but let the marina winterize and store this one.

The phosphorus ban in your county most likely applies to laurdry and dish detergents but not motor oil?

With a '97 you might have roller cams rather than what I have (tappet cams). Ask your mechanic which you have. I believe roller cams will perfom fine with the reductions. Plus the marine oils are probably still fully fortified, unless they state "suitable for boats with catalytic converters" (just recently introduced into boats). But they are pretty secretive about their formulas, especially if the new and improved oil is less than desireable.

I doubt your mechanic is aware of the situation yet. Mine wasn't until he looked into it. Then he suggested racing oils, but they don't have the detergents necessary for normal use (and don't have the marine anti-corrosion package).

If you do have the tappet cams, I don't have the answer yet, but am still investigating it. Figure I have until next spring to get something worked out.

John,
Thanks for the info.. I will have to ask. As for our ban, it also applies to fertilizer to keep it from our lakes. We have some pretty serious alge blooms here.
I agree about the waiting until spring..
Right now I'm just DREAMING:lmao:

glad you made it home safely!
It was great to see you.

Hi Nancy,

Nice to meet you (again)!

We don't allow Badger fans here on the DISboard ... Just kidding (I'll update the list).

Nice summary, by the way. And really cool signature line.

John,
Good thing you are kidding about the Badger Fans.. :eek:whew! My DH and I are almost rabid when it comes to the Badgers...:lmao: His Disney $ job is actually working concessions for them for Football, Men's Hockey and Men's Basketball..Really wishing we could go to the Rose Bowl.. but alas only so many vacation days and only so much in the bank account

What makes it worse is the Mayor went oin TV and told everyone how good the snow removal is going. Meanwhile the street where I work has still not been plowed! I might smack the Mayor next time he walks in my restaurant. I hired someone to clean my street so I could do business.

Good morning everyone.
All of my IN neighbors did you feel your earthquake this morning? I hope all is well. Our news said it was felt in IL. and OH., we did not feel it. They said it was small but still hope all is well.:goodvibes
I seem to have missed it once again. We had one here in IL about 25 years ago. I never felt that one either. I was driving a truck when it happened. Sue and the girls were over at her mom's. The DD's were outside playing when it hit. My MIL asked Sue, "What are those girls doing to the house?". They were 3 & 4 at the time... :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

Oh yea, right. I've needed tow truck help before and even though I got as far off the road as possible, the semi's still rocked our Navigator. Not fun for tow truck drivers, to be sure!

Well, I think I have said before my preference in order would be: Purdue (my alma mater), Indiana (still home-state), Michigan & 'State (where we lived before), the Big Ten teams, and then Kentucky & Louisville (where I worked before). So Wisconsin makes the list of teams I root for (as long as they aren't playing against a team I listed higher).

Terrie: Wisconsin Badgers are a college/university in the Big Ten (although we have more than 10 teams now). So they are active in all sports, with Football and Basketball being the most prominent.

That's pretty bad when you must hire someone privately to clean you public street. Reminds me of people in Chicago charging people to double park their cars on a public street for a Cubs game. Wrong on so many levels, but if you wanted to have wheels when you returned, I guess you paid the man.
