UPDATE - for you Ashang fans out there, I was informed on the Wonder that he is no longer with DCL. I hope that he moved onto bigger and better things.

So, a couple years ago you recommended Ashang to our family and we loved him! We have a short Dream Cruise coming up in August and we haven’t been on that ship in years. Was wondering if you have and if you have any recommendations for a Dream server? You led us in the right direction before so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask!

Hoping someone can make a recommendation for a Fantasy server now that Ashang is gone. We were disappointed with our last serving team on the Fantasy in Feb.

We had Marlan as our Server over Christmas on the Fantasy. Not sure what you are looking for, but for our family of 7, she was excellent. Our kids are 22, 20, 20 & 16 so do not require as much attention, games with crayons, etc. DH is super laid back. They basically want to eat and leave. However, my dear 82yo Aunt is always well taken care of. She preorders the night before, having allergies & extremely picky. Marlan was very patient and always had great suggestions. We do not request a server, I only request to have the least amount of nights in Animators, with the age of our kids they really do not want to draw or listen to turtle talk! We have always choose late seating, not sure if that makes a difference, getting our choice of rotation. The day we board, I check to see that we have our own table, and explain to the head server, the situation with my Aunt. If you do wind up with Marlan, I would like to know your thoughts when you return.

Thanks for the kind words; I’m glad Ashang did not disappoint.

I wish I had a Dream recommendation for you. We’ve only sailed on her once (our first DCL cruise, back in 2012), and our servers were, unfortunately, not particularly memorable.

Ashang set the bar really, really high.

UPDATE (6/9/22) - I hate to necro a thread, but for all you Ashang fans out there, he is indeed still on the Fantasy.

I don’t know why the CM on the Wonder told me back in 2020 that he was gone (I suppose it’s possible that he left and then came back), but regardless, we saw Ashang with our living, breathing eyes on our 5/28 Fantasy sailing, and he said he had no plans to leave.

I'm glad for all of you to have had such a great server!! I also have had the pleasure of having a phenomenal!!! In the event you can't have Ashang-- try Nelia Henry from St Lucia on the Fantasy. We have used her for the past 7 years every time we cruise on the Fantasy. She is amazing for every person from 6 months to 66!! Able to recommend and give an honest opinion on the taste of the food and has never been wrong!! Everyone have a wonderful cruise whoever you use!!

Bumping this up by 2 years…We are going on the Dream in Aug, 2022. I know there have been a lot of changes with the really good servers being transferred to the Wish. But any current recommendations for servers on the Dream?

Ashang was our server on the Fantasy for spring break 2022! He worked with Adi and head server Kendell. Pretty much any server after him will pale in comparison. We are sailing Fantasy again in April 2023 and you better believe we are requesting him! Nothing short of FABULOUS. Also, Kendell is the BEST head server I’ve ever had. At our table EVERY NIGHT. Went table to table opening everyone’s lobster. Just an absolute treat. We have four cruises between now and April, on the Dream once and Wonder thrice. Counting down the days until we see Ashang again! He is truly the best! Alex on the Magic in 2006 is a close second.

others because people claim that they have wonderful experiences on the Dream, so far we are 0-2 … one more sailing this year on the Dream in October. We’re on the Fantasy in April 2023 and back to the Dream in September for the British Isles.

We love Disney and we are hoping for stellar service on our Nov/Dec Wonder cruises (sailing concierge for these two only, to try it out) so really just the January and Sept 2023 cruises we aren’t sure on. Fingers crossed!

I’m not sure if he will - he told us to come see him for Spring Break 2023, we are hoping he’ll be there with Adi and Kendell!

I had just “meh” servers until I started getting recommendations here and putting in a request (I would request in order my top 3 server choices) to DCL via my travel agent. It made a big difference.

FYI, I don't think I've seen a head server who wasn't going table to table opening everyone's lobster..... And their job is to briefly come around to every table every night; if you have experienced otherwise that head server was not doing the normal process.

Sadly, on our Memorial Day cruise - we saw the head server ONCE. And he stopped briefly and was nice but seemed checked out.

He said he does not want to go.

The choice may not be up to him, or DCL may incentivize him to reconsider.

If he is committed to the Fantasy, I wonder if he will move with the ship if it is repositioned when the sixth ship comes out (assuming, of course, that the sixth ship will take over the 7-night PC Carib cruises).
