Zombie Apocalypse and Pixie Dust - A 2 week Disneymoon (PTR link 11/14)

Glad you had such a nice day! Soarin is one ride that we've had long FP waits on as well. There have been several times that we've gone on it that the wait was more than 30 minutes which just seems long for a FP:confused3 To me FP means boogy right on the ride :goodvibes

Day 6 part 1 - "Miss Diva Has A Case Of The Blabbermouth"
August 16th, 2011

I feel bad for not updating for so long, so I'm giving you two updates in two days. I'll be back later to reply to your posts.

Just like every other day, the alarm woke us up at 7am. However, unlike all the previous days, I woke up feeling extremely nauseous. It happens to me sometimes when it's early and I'm too tired. We were supposed to go to Hollywood Studios that day, but since we had a break planned for the following day, we decided to switch our days. We watched TV for a little while, then went back to sleep.

We slept well, until Miss Black Diva had a case of the blabbermouth right in front of our door. *Before I go on I want to apologize if I offend anyone with that comment. I'm really not one to judge and certainly am not trying to start a race war. In fact, I don't even know if the woman was black as we did not open the door. It's just that her voice fit perfectly the stereotype of ghetto fabulous that TV and movies portray.* Anyway, she seemed to be talking on her cellphone and I don't think the person she was talking to ever had a chance to place a word in the 10 minutes conversation she had. She basically just blabbered non-stop, with lots of "None of that!!" interjected in. Now why she chose our room to stop on front of, I have no clue!

That little episode left us completely awake, so we watched some more TV. At some point Ron went out to get coffee for him and toasts for me. One thing I really wanted to do, especially since we were in Disney for two weeks, was walk around the resort to explore. I took LOTS of pictures. So much so that it might take me 2-3 updates to go through them all.

Let's start with our area, the 50s.

DSC03181.jpg

I love how in that one even the ground around the pool looks like a bowling alley.

DSC03184.jpg

DSC03185.jpg

Then we walked along the lake and checked out the progress on the new Art Of Animation resort.

This is the Generation Gap bridge, which was suppose to link the two halves of POP Century. I hope they reopen it when AOA is open so people can explore both resorts.

DSC03190.jpg

DSC03191.jpg

We continued to follow the path along the shore and reached this famous couple.

DSC03192.jpg

DSC03193.jpg

DSC03194.jpg

Continuing on our way, we reached the 80s and 90s. My youth! We had to explain to DD what a walkman was, as she had no clue! You know, before the IPOD and MP3 players, there were disc-mans, and before that... I feel old!

DSC03196.jpg

DSC03195.jpg

DSC03198.jpg

We saw the computer pool, the most boring POP pool according to me.

DSC03197.jpg

DSC03203.jpg

DSC03200.jpg

Pac-Man is my FAVORITE game ever. It ROCKS!

DSC03201.jpg

We walked back towards the main area, passing by a very well hidden mini playground for kids. We visited with Goofy, which apparently is gone now.

At this point Ron had had enough of being dragged around, so he left to go play in the arcade.

Up Next, The 60s and the 70s on our walk around POP Century

I am so sorry your pregnancy is tuckering you out! I know when my HS spanish teacher was pregnant, the poor thing was exhausted all of the time. And she had to leave class several times (during an hour long class) to pee.

Awww. The goofy jets. My little sister LOVED those! So sad that they are gone now :sad1:

Looks like you had a nice evening in Epcot. I like sunshine seasons but for some reason we didn't get it on our last trip. I think we may have to get it on our next trip. If we can stop eating the nachos in Mexico, that is ;)

Love the resort pictures! It makes me even more excited for my stay at POP in 2.5 months :)

Sunshine Seasons is my favorite CS place in FW, though I have only eaten breakfast there. Will have to try the lunch or dinner in February.

First, congrats on the new car! I actually drive a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer! I love her (her name is Lacey lol) but I do like the Elantra too, from what I've seen of them. Chris drives a Hyundai Veloster so I am partial to Hyndais as well. Good luck with it! :thumbsup2

I love all your PP pics from Epcot. So pretty at night! And Sunshine Seasons is one of my favorite QS on site...yummmm!

Yay for Pop pics! I can't wait to stay there again in 62 days! Thats so funny that your DD didn't know what a walkman was  I tell my students at school that I didn't have a cell phone until 10th grade and that texting didn't really start until after I graduated high school and they look at me like I have 10 heads :rotfl:

Just got back from our trip to Tennessee and am caught up again. I hope that you are getting a little of your energy back. That little baby of your's is tuckering you out.

Very cute pictures of your walk around the resort. We've visited Pop Century before and I thought all of the larger than life icons were adorable. Did you know that we can see the top of the bowling pins from the CBR?

Nice pictures of the resort, Rommel. And don't worry I'm a person whose up for anything retro except maybe the 60s that decade freaks the living hell out of me.

Oops! Really did not think it would be that long before I would come back to post replies. I can't believe I haven't even logged on the Dis since last Tuesday! And looking at my calendar for the next few weeks, I don't see any slowing down of my life any time soon. The time off during the Holidays will be VERY welcome!

Hey there!
Just read day 4. Oh.... Magic Kingdom.... there is something so incredibly special about it. I love it that you guys made it to rope drop, left the park in the middle of the afternoon adn came back to use your FP's later. :goodvibes

I have yet to be able to accomplish a day like that.:sad2:

I love the fact that you sleep with your toutous. We are NEVER too old for toutous. :) And on the same note, that was so cute that you both got to ride the carrousel together.

Thanks for the great tip about the viewing spot by the hub. :thumbsup2 I will try to remember it for our next time.

We also preferred Spectromagic and I sincerely hope they bring it back one day.

Have a great week!
Queila

Magic Kingdom is so magical. I was just watching a video of someone walking around Fantasyland (to look at the construction) and it brought back all the memories of just walking there and the atmosphere. I miss it so much!!!

Leaving the park mid-day for a break is actually very hard for us as well. I think the only reason why I was able to convince Ron to go back to the resort was because I knew I REALLY wanted to stay as late as possible for EMH that evening.

There were a few years in my life where I felt "too old" to sleep with toutous, but luckily that passed. I love holding Stitch in my arms!

The Carousel was not part of our plan AT ALL, but it was a nice moment to share together. :lovestruc

I'm so glad my friend told me about that spot as well as waiting for the second show because it was perfect! Hope you can take advantage of it on your next trip.

Have a great week too!

It's to bad you have to wait for the car but it will be even better when you get it in the color you want and I love the pic of you two in front of the glowing epcot ball...Cograts on the new car :)

Thanks. At least if I have my new car just before Christmas it will be like a present to myself. It's one of my favorite photopass picture of the whole trip. I saved it in a 8 X 10 format because I want to print it and have it framed. :wizard:

We love Sunshine Seasons! It's a little tradition of ours to eat lunch there on one of our Epcot days. The desserts are amazing! :thumbsup2

Uh oh, I'm scared to know why skipping Illuminations wasn't the best idea!

I actually did not like Sunshine Seasons AT ALL on our first trip to Disney. Even flat out refused to eat there! :scared1: I guess I was just in a bad mood that day. This time I really enjoyed it, especially the dessert. :goodvibes

Even on a 2 weeks vacation it is never a good idea to say "oh we can skip this, we'll have time to come back later!" :sad2: ...

Congrats on the new car!

I love Sunshine Seasons! We finally ate there this past trip and it was so good, I can't wait to go back!

Great photopass pics!

I love your pictures of Pop at night, I can't wait to be staying there in 12 days! :cool1:

Thanks! It's my first time ever getting a brand new car, so it's pretty exciting. Even when I was a child my parents always owned used cars, so it's a totally new experience. :cool1:

Your trip is coming up very soon!!! You must be so excited! I hope you enjoyed my pictures of POP during the day as well. Ron and I truly fell in love with the resort and would not hesitate to stay there again one day.

Glad you had such a nice day! Soarin is one ride that we've had long FP waits on as well. There have been several times that we've gone on it that the wait was more than 30 minutes which just seems long for a FP:confused3 To me FP means boogy right on the ride :goodvibes

I'm not sure what they could do to improve the wait time on Soarin. I think the merge between FP and regular line just comes way too early. We got through the FP section of the queue is just a few minutes, but then had to wait for a very long time with everybody else. :confused3

I am so sorry your pregnancy is tuckering you out! I know when my HS spanish teacher was pregnant, the poor thing was exhausted all of the time. And she had to leave class several times (during an hour long class) to pee.

It's not even so much that the pregnancy is tuckering me out. I mean it is, I've been going to bed a few hours earlier than usual. It's just that on top of that I've just been SO DARN BUSY!!! Between meeting with/calling parents, report cards (thank god that's over), buying my new car and dealing with finding the best insurance deal for it, getting a massage (that was AWESOME and so relaxing :cloud9:), visiting my mom, my doctor's appointment, etc. I don't have any time OR energy left to do anything besides numbingly playing solitaire, watching a few shows, and sleeping! Not to mention I haven't even started my Christmas shopping... :headache: Oops, sorry, guess I had to vent.

It seems that they have taken over the area of the Goofy jets to present free movies every night.

You know one thing I REALLY wanted to eat during this trip and somehow never had the opportunity? Those nachos from Mexico. Guess that's as good a reason as any to go back to Disney. ;)

Love the resort pictures! It makes me even more excited for my stay at POP in 2.5 months :)

Sunshine Seasons is my favorite CS place in FW, though I have only eaten breakfast there. Will have to try the lunch or dinner in February.

POP is a very fun and nice resort. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did when you go this winter. :)

We are not big breakfast people so we've rarely eaten any breakfast while at Disney. And certainly not in the parks, as we are way too busy going from attraction to attraction during those precious first hours. How is the breakfast at Sunshine Seasons? What's offered?

First, congrats on the new car! I actually drive a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer! I love her (her name is Lacey lol) but I do like the Elantra too, from what I've seen of them. Chris drives a Hyundai Veloster so I am partial to Hyndais as well. Good luck with it! :thumbsup2

Thank you! Aww man! If I had known you drive a Lancer and love it so much it might have swayed me to buy it instead of the Hyundai! Really the main reason why I didn't was because I didn't know anyone who owned one and got scared of the unknown. But I must stop thinking about it as I don't want to regret my decision. In the end, I loved both cars and I'm sure I'll enjoy my Elantra. :goodvibes

All the parks are fun at night, but Epcot is probably the prettiest one. Especially World Showcase. And Spaceship Earth. Aww, if only I could go back... You are so lucky that you get to go twice in the same year!!

Those moments in teaching when you start talking about what was different back when we were kids, really make us feel old, don't they? :rotfl:

Just got back from our trip to Tennessee and am caught up again. I hope that you are getting a little of your energy back. That little baby of your's is tuckering you out.

Very cute pictures of your walk around the resort. We've visited Pop Century before and I thought all of the larger than life icons were adorable. Did you know that we can see the top of the bowling pins from the CBR?

I read your post about being stuck on the road for 17 hours on your way back from Tennessee. Talk about the drive from hell! I got stuck in traffic once coming back from Toronto. First had to deal with rush hour getting out of the city (apparently afternoon rush hour starts VERY early there, thought we were going to be ahead of it.) Finally was able to drive freely for a short while until BAM! More traffic. Took 1 hour to go 2 kilometers (just over 1 mile)!!! Turns out there was an accident at the exact place where the highway went from three to two lanes, making it from 3 to half a lane instead. My friend slept through it. I was ready to kill someone after that, so I can only imagine what you must have went through!

As I explained to Kira, it's not so much the pregnancy, but everything else going on in my life on top of it that is exhausting me.

I was not aware that you could see part of POP from Caribbean Beach, but it makes sense as they are literally next to each other. I think they may even share the same Mousekeeping facilities.

Nice pictures of the resort, Rommel. And don't worry I'm a person whose up for anything retro except maybe the 60s that decade freaks the living hell out of me.

I love the 60s! It's the 80s that freak me out, even though I was actually alive for all of it. We had the weirdest fashion choices back then...

Hey don't diss the 80s! It's my favourite decade besides the 90s! They had loads of cool stuff movie, video game and cartoon-wise!

Just done with day 5.

Way to go for sleeping in. The advantages of going to Disney for two weeks! :goodvibes

I love your t-shirt. ;) Good taste on chosing your apparel. :thumbsup2 You guys look so cute on your PP pictures.

I agree with you 100% on the Beverly issue. I did not find it that bad either. :confused3

It seemed like such a fun afternoon at World Showcase. I love taking the time to explore it as well. I do have the song of Impressions de France on my Disney CD and it is one of my favorites. That one and theone from Canada, of course. ;)

The pork chop from Sunshine Seasons look awesome. I would go for some right now.

Have a great week!

I love all of your Pop pictures! :thumbsup2 Ugh, how irritating that that woman had to stop in front of your door to have her conversation (if you could even call it that!) It always baffles me how some people seem to forget that hotel walls are not sound proof! It's like they think they are the only people there! :sad2:

Awesome pix all around the POP resort...love'em all and like the name of the bridge between the two resorts "generation gap". Hope things going okay for you and getting lots of sleep....take care.

Day 6 part 2 - Exploring POP Century one decade at a time
August 16th, 2011

After making Ron walk with me as long as possible, he left to go play in the arcade (and get a relief from the heat I would imagine). I had two more decades left to visit, so I walked over to the 70s.

I walked by Classic Hall and made a left towards the 60s.

My trip back in time was over and it was really hot, so I joined Ron in the arcade. He was playing his favorite arcade game, pinball.

It was now time for lunch, so let's finish this tour of POP Century with pics of the food court.

The Grab N Go section, with the selection of pastries

Two of the four counters you can order from (plus a fifth for ice cream). On the left you can order Italian stuff (pasta, pizza, lasagna) and on the right is the one that changes the most. It has nachos, burritos, some Asian offerings and Mom's Dinner Out.

The cashiers, and one of the three self-serve stations.

We had had breakfast pretty late so all I had for lunch was the bread tsicks with marinara sauce. They were just okay. Ron had parmesan chicken, which I guess was okay too.

We ate our lunch in our room. Around 1:30pm we were finally ready to leave the resort and go somewhere. Any guesses where?

Up Next, Find Out Where We Will Be Spending Our Afternoon

I said it after the last pics, and I will say it again, I LOVE the pics of POP Century! I can't wait to be there in just over 2 months. :goodvibes

Hey don't diss the 80s! It's my favourite decade besides the 90s! They had loads of cool stuff movie, video game and cartoon-wise!

Okay, I'll agree with you on the great video games, but not the movies. :upsidedow

Q

After this two weeks trip to Disney, we will have a very HARD time going back for less than 10 days. It really was awesome knowing that we had time to relax AND do everything we wanted, more than once! :goodvibes

It is a cute t-shirt. ;)

I guess Beverly really is bad if you are expecting it to be good. But if you know ahead of time, it doesn't take you by surprise.

Impressions de France. :cloud9:

Speaking of Pork Chop, Ron had some great BBQ pork from the Asian market on the South Shore today. popcorn::

Have a great week too!

I love all of your Pop pictures! :thumbsup2 Ugh, how irritating that that woman had to stop in front of your door to have her conversation (if you could even call it that!) POP is a great resort. Though I would give anything to be able to stay at the POLY like you did! :lovestruc

Seriously, some people just think solely about themselves (and she clearly fit in that category!).

Awesome pix all around the POP resort...love'em all and like the name of the bridge between the two resorts "generation gap". Hope things going okay for you and getting lots of sleep....take care.

Generation Gap is indeed an awesome name for that bridge. Too bad they never got around to doing the other half of POP Century, though I think Art Of Animation is an even better idea.

I actually did not get nearly as much sleep as I was hoping this weekend. :sad2: Yesterday I woke up early for no reason. And last night/this morning Ron was snoring a lot (he usually never does) and that kept me awake most of the time. :headache: Oh well, at least Tuesday I get to sleep in a little and then see my little Peanut on the ultrasound. :goodvibes

You did not get to eat the nachos from Mexico? :scared1:

They are soooo yummy! You have to go back to Disney now :goodvibes

I missed out on eating nachos from Mexico for the same reason I said it was a mistake to skip Illuminations the night before. You'll find out why on our next Epcot day. :sad2:

I said it after the last pics, and I will say it again, I LOVE the pics of POP Century! I can't wait to be there in just over 2 months. :goodvibes

I've been in a nostalgic mood this weekend. I miss the home baked chocolate cake my mom used to make, the "sucre à la crème" my grandma used to make, my grandpa setting up my empty plate and glass for my breakfast, hanging out by the pool and the beach in Cuba, walking through Fantasyland and of course coming back at night to our "home", the 50s of POP Century. :flower3:

I LOVE the pictures of your hotel! You are making me so excited to go on our next trip :goodvibes.

SOOOO.. I am a terrible dis friend and all around diser lately! Please forgive me! I hope you had an amazing thanksgiving and I would really love to hear how the baby is doing!

I will try as hard as I can to catch up, and please know you are in my thoughts <3
