Bettyann,
About your camera. The same thing happened to me at Christmas. I bought a new digital camera last March for our June Disney trip. It was a Nikkon Coolpix, so not a really cheap one. Well, I dropped it in the parking lot on Christmas Eve at the mall after we were done visiting with Santa. :( I was really bummed about it and we tried everything but couldn't get it to work. I took it back with my receipt to Best Buy, where I purchased it, and told them it didn't work. They asked if I had purchased their extended warranty thing. I said No and was about to give up. I said, do you think there is a Manufacturers warranty? She looked it up on the computer and there was a 1 year warranty for parts and labor. So, she spoke with the supervisor and they handed me over a BRAND NEW CAMERA straight out of the box!

It never hurts to ask.

Maggie

I didnt buy the extended warranty either, but the regular warranty specifically says it does not cover it if it is due to dropping it and I know my daughter dropped it.

AGH!!! This is one of those times when the little devil on my shoulder (admit it - we all have one of those that whispers in our ears some days!) wants me to tell you to just bat those baby blue eyes and say, but I have NO idea what happened to it - it was working fine the other day.......

I know -that is not honest - don't flame me - it's just one of those things that is SOOOO tempting! :p :p :p

Its been a long time checking into this thread... there are some wonderful ideas.

I had a very good month on Ebay in December, although $400 in postage just killed me!

Right now, I just put up a bunch of vintage sports magazines.

I do have to say, my DH got a book called Ebay Hacks. There are a lot of HTML tips/hacks in there, to enable a lot of wonderful uses. Ebay Bible was another book he read, but it was WAS TOO EASY!

DH learned enough HTML to put many pictures in the description at no extra cost!

Now, if he only gets organized and starts listing the 26 extra PC's we have in the house, we will be set to go!

My daughter dropped ours on the floor too. When you turned it on a blue screen flashed and it beeped. Funny thing, I knocked it on the floor not to long after that, and it worked fine. I think something else happened to it, and now I find that if I turn it on and it does that I just turn it off, beat it on my hand, and it works fine. I've been told that it is cheaper to buy a new one than to get it fixed. For now the beating works great :)

Oh my gosh..26 extra PC's..and I thought the extra few we had were bad LOL

although $400 in postage just killed me!

But didn't the people buying pay for the postage? I have had that amount of postage in two days..but it didn't come out of my pocket, thank God!

Happy New Year to Everyone!!!!

Coming here for advise again.

After our Xmas/New Year trip, I ended up with 38 Q&C vouchers that I am thinking about selling on E-Bay. I am wondering if this is a good idea. I remember there was some discussion about the problem in shipping because they cannot be insured. My biggest fear is that I ship these out and they claim they did not get them, though I can use priority mail and shipping confirmation.

Anyone has any experiences in these? Thanks a lot!!

If you are just looking to get your money back..all you have to do is mention it on a few of these boards, and people will offer to buy them from you. If you want to make money on them, you can put them on eBay, but you do take a chance, since they can't be insured. Looks like most people send them registered mail..that doesn't prove anything was in the package..but then they could say that for anything we sell. With Paypal you just have to show proof you mailed it. According the literature that came with your membership, you actually aren't suppose to sell them, but other than a warning from Connections..what can they do, you own them. They never had us agree to that..just included it with the membership. I had already bought mine, before I got any membership materials. If I have any left when I get back, I'll be putting them on eBay.
Doris

Doris,

Thanks. I think I may give E-Bay a try for the Q&C vouchers. I am still a little concerned if I run into a dishonest person and insists that they don't have them. But like you said, it could happen to anything that is sold on E-Bay.

Yes, they did pay for postage, but you know.. that still just killed me thinking about it! We didn't run into any "shortages" even with our international shipping, but it was still a lot of money!

Yes, 26 PC's! Plus six servers, a floor to ceiling rack, various parts and pieces, and I think a few "parts only" laptops.

I'm sorry to be so curious, but it is just begging the question in my mind: How did you end up with all of those?

I'll take those if they're good for my dates. I'm going Jan 30 & June 6. I sent you a PM. What is the expiration date?

Hi everyone! My sales weren't as bad as I thought they'd be this week, but still not very good. I got frustraited and relisted everything for .99 and will probably lose money on some, but hopefully it will encourage bids. I went to an auction yesterday, spent 8 hours there:rolleyes: and bought more junk that I hope will sell. I tried to restrain myself and not bid too high, and I think I did pretty good, but who knows.

I'm glad to read most people had a successful holiday season and several people have joined the e-Bay crowd! I was away more of December than I was home, so I'm still on e-Bay hiatus. I hope to rejoin the selling fray in February.

Joy and Doris: I know you're both going to WDW shortly, so have a terrific time! I'm envrious, even though I was there for a week last month!

The Van: Oh, my! I can't believe someone actually bought it! Perhaps I should list the 1987 Ford Taurus sitting in the garage that I was going to donate to charity? It only has 65,000 miles on it, a major dent in the rear fender from a shredded (new!) tire, and the A/C doesn't work! And I consider it fit only for parts! Of course, in the low desert A/C isn't considered a luxury, although I drove it for two summers without A/C!

C.Ann: I can relate to having far too much stuff around the house. I'm still working through my parent's stuff, but am slowly gaining on it. My personal excess tends to be books and textiles. Although I don't collect anything, my textile stash is out of control at the moment. I need to get busy and sew or do something with it!

I'll keep lurking and chime in if I can help--at least until I start listing again and need advice!

Happy 2004 to all!

Taja :sunny:

P.S. For anyone suffering from yard sale withdrawal, our season is in full swing. Of course, you still have to get everything home!

P.P.S. If you're in a cold climate and don't have plans for a warm climate getaway soon, I'll tempt you with our 7-day forecast. Highs in the low to mid 70s, overnight lows mid 40s to low 50s. Don't worry, though, as soon as the jet stream changes, we'll have our share of cold weather again!

This can happen with anything you sell. I actually had someone insist that they only recieved the manuals but no software from an auction they had won. This was impossible based on the postage paid and since he said the envelope was in tact. I tried to work with them to do a trace on it (my PO said he had to contact his PO) but he was very uncooperative, insisting a full refund. I ended up basically telling him that I had mailed the software and since he didn't insure the package that I could not offer a full refund. Yes, he ended up neg'ing me but that is the price of doing "business" on ebay.

Well, worry no more and check this one out:
Feedback for an eBay Seller
Interesting... this person has hundreds of negatives because of her shipping policy. However, she is still doing plenty of business, and states her shipping terms very clearly in her listings. People obviously don't read.

I hope this makes those of you who have "seen red" at least once feel a little bit better. And honestly, I think many of those who have neg'd this seller were not really justified, considering she clearly states her shipping up front.

Joy

I always check out the feedback of someone when I'm buying. If if is a clear case of someone not reading, I do take that into consideration when bidding. I am put off when the seller writes something nasty in response to the undeserved neg/neutral though. It must get tiring to continually have people not read the terms of the sale and then neg you on it, but you still must remain pleasant in your return remarks if you want to keep selling IMO.

On another subject, I received something today which was not totally as represented. Within a few short hours the seller and I came to an agreement, and I plan to post positive feedback for her even despite the misrepresentation. I feel it was an error and I understand errors can occur. What is important to me as a buyer is that she wanted to work it out fairly (as did I) and we did that without any 'words'. I am trying to think of exactly what to say, but I do want to post it tonight so that she will not fret about it. I already told her (after our 'negotiation') not to worry about the feedback so she wouldn't worry, but I'm sure she'll feel better when she sees the black and white. I am thinking of something like: "Very happy with speedy resolution to problem." or something of that nature.

She is very up-front, however I would assume it was coming via Priority Mail for that price - especially when she lists the DConf. (although I know it can be done on nearly anything - it is mostly specific to PM or Express). That would upset me, even though it does not state PM, the price implies it in my opinion. However, I doubt I would neg her.

Yikes - she doesn't combine shipping though - ouch!!!!

hi ho, hi ho..it's off to spend my eBay money I go...or something like that LOL. One more post, before I go to sleep and then leave for the mouse's house!

From the eBay Announcement Board -

In the next few weeks eBay will be adding
a new feature called Mutual Feedback
Withdrawal. Mutual Feedback Withdrawal
allows members to withdraw feedback on
those occasions when they have worked
out a dispute that caused a negative feedback.

More information on this new enhancement
will be available later this month.

I used DC on everything I send (now that I have learned of the shipping assitant thanks to this thread) and rarely ship anything priority. So I would not assume Priority just because they say they use DC. I also would not assume the type of shipping based on s/h. Especially with the seller saying they self insure.

That seller is proof that you must read before you purchase anything on ebay. And I guess also that many buyers DO NOT read before they bid.

Yea, there is one like her in the Disney Pin section. I hate it when I see a pin that I would like to add to my collection, but then see the it is from her. I just pass it up. I don't buy from people like that.

I don't remeber if I had read it here or another message board site. But some one had bought a group of pins from the pin seller. And paid the seperate shipping price for all of the pins, I think its something like $4.50 a pin. And when they got the pins, they were all in the same envelope. That is just wrong! If you are going to charge some one for shipping on each item, and say that you will not combine items. Then ship them sepertley, not together.
