Since you don't get a postmarked receipt - is it really valid proof that the item was sent.

The number is on your copy of the DC..the part you cut off. You also can ask the PO to stamp that..mine does it with no problem.

Is there a way to put a tracer on an item that a buyer is saying they never recieved? They did not insure the item.

The buyer is saying they only received the instruction manuels for some software that I sent. Based on the the postage costs, the software was in the envelope when I sent it. They are saying that the envelope was "intact" when they received it. I know that the PO reserves the right to open items sent via Media Mail, which this was. I am wondering if for whatever reason the PO did open and the envelope in which it was sent and did not put the software back in the envelope. I hate to think the buyer is being dishonest for whatever reason. But I do not see how the software can not have been received if the instruction manuals were, if the envelope was "intact" when received.

Has anyone been able to trace "lost mail" ? And how do you do it?

I also have been having problems not receiving e-mails from Ebay. I have had several items sell and some not, but I have not gotten the reg. e-mails. I have also not gotten all the copies of the invoices I have sent to people. I'm not sure what's going on, but it's frustrating!!

Cinlee, I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandfather. Please accept my condolences.

God bless,

Robinrs

I can't believe I finally made it to the end of this post. I swear I've been reading it for days. :p After reading all your posts I decided what the hey. I've already sold 1 and have bids on 2 others.

My parents have even suggested going through their stuff. This about made me keel over, they can't part with anything. The joke in the family is that when they die we are selling the house as is because we don't want to clear it out. :) :)

Have a quick question though. Is there a way to see if you have bids without monitoring your page every 5 minutes? :p

I have tossed around the idea of e-baying for a year now. The shipping is what is holding me back (well, figuring out what to sell too but that'll be easier to figure out). As an example, I had to mail a package to a friend today. Here's the cost:

PkgTape 2x800-RP $3.29
Box 12x10x8-RP 1.98
Parcel Post 9.17
(Destination: 95020
Weight: 3lb 11.50oz
Postage Type: PVI
Total Cost: $9.17
Base Rate: $7.87
Insurance: $1.30
Value: $50.0)

Total $14.44

I realize now that I probably could have gotten tape cheaper somewhere else but what about the box and the postage fee?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Check walmart for boxes, I am sure you could have gotten a bit cheaper there. As for the tape, did you use the entire thing on that package? I am guess not, so then only the portion (best guess) of the tape that you used would count toward the actual shipping costs. More then likely you only used $0.50 of the tape for that one package.

Other than that, if it cost you $15 to mail it then you charge the buyer that much.

I have a question on the shipping assistant Delivery Confirmation. Since you don't get a postmarked receipt - is it really valid proof that the item was sent. I was just wondering since this is the first time I have used it. I go to a little P.O. inside a drug store and the lady there - she been there for years - asked me if I needed to copy the number down and then I started to think about it. It's still great saving that extra money.

Wow, I thought my parents town was the only one with a general store/PO.. just like Mayberry!

Anyway, I get an email with the DC information , so I don't need to copy it down.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that I didn't use all the tape on that one package. However, the postal clerk had me put on tons of tape. Maybe that's the norm but she had me put 3 strips across the top and bottom seams each and then one strip all around the package, opposite of the seams. I'm not sure if that explanation makes any sense but the point being -- it was a lot more tape than I would have used. So I do have some left but I'll be checking Wal-mart for supplies next time. I've never mailed boxed items before so I had no idea that Wal-mart had those kind of supplies. Thank-you for letting me know that. :D

Wait !!!! Don't run off to Walmart yet !!!! Check these on-line sites first.. They often have sales, clearance items, buy1get1 free deals, 6 free rolls of tape with a carton of bubble envelopes, etc. Even with shipping, it often turns out to be much cheaper!!

packagingplace.com

bubblefast.com

mrboxonline.com

Quill.com

Viking.com

-----------------------

Also, do a search of your own - and don't forget to check eBay because there ARE some reasonable supplies on there at times!!

Come join us eBay our way to Disney!! It's great fun!!! ;)

Cindy B - I love my little P.O. It is also has the cutest gift shop. They are a regular post office - not a Mail Store. There is only a line on Mondays when all the EBayers are mailing their stuff out I guess.

When you get your email with the Delivery Confirmation - are you buying postage on-line too? I don't buy the postage online. I do keep the other half of the label with the number on it but there is no post mark.

DmRick - I am going to ask the lady next time if she will stamp the other half of the form for me. I'm sure she won't have a problem with that. I honestly did not even think of that - thanks.

Okay I am stumped...Is anyone else getting this when trying to relist??

Every time I try to list items I get a warning at the bottom of the review/sub,it page that states

"Your listing appears to violate eBay’s policy regarding Want Ads and Trades.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

eBay policy prohibits listings which advertise a desire to buy or trade items. Common examples of violations of this policy include:

“Will consider trades for this item.”
“Trades welcome”

Please review your listing to make sure that it does not violate this policy.
"

Why I am stumped is...1)this has already been up and is being RELISTED and 2) here is what my listing says

"NIB!!!Personal Expressions Memory Foam Spa Slippers

The heat-sensitive, visco-elastic material tucked inside these soft velour slippers works wonders on your feet.
NASA-developed memory foam responds to your body heat and weight, naturally adjusting to cushion your foot with every step.
The velour adds a touch of class and elegance and the waterproof, skid-resistant sole offers added safety. First, astronauts in space benefited and now you! Enjoy out of this world comfort at home. Comes in three sizes (MENS S(8-9.5), M(10-11.5), L(12+) ) . Each set is individually boxed."

This is not the only listing I am getting this message on either!!
I am afraid to list if there is a problem I don't want my listing removed.

Any ideas?

My parents it was a real post office too.. I felt like I died and went to Mayberry! The just built a stand alone po a few years bac..
N o Idont pay for postage online. I still get an email, and an email goes to the recipient as well. The other half of the slip has the DC number on it too.. so I don't need stamp

I have found Scotch packing tape at the dollar store before. They were the rolls with the cutter attached. The next cheapest place is when they are buy one get one free at Walgreens.

I just want to say thanks for all the great tips from this thread. I have been sell for years and I'm always learning new tricks.

The only problem I'm having is remembering on what page I read about a site or tip. Wow, 115 pages of info. Someone should start a Eaby tips and webpage thread.

Thanks again!

Thanks so much for your help!!

What about using Priority Mail? FREE Boxes, FREE priority mail tape (order online at usps.com) For packages up to 1lb = $3.85. Heavier packages vary in price depending on what zone they're shipped from/to. 2-3 day delivery which eBay-ers seem to love!

And of course your winning bidder pays all costs (which you should list in your eBay listing - I won't bid on something where shipping fees aren't disclosed in this listing).

HTH,
Lori
