You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

I scrolled through the first 100 pages of this thread, but I couldn't find an answer. I plan to accept payment by credit card through Paypal. I plan to start small and sell low priced items. However, I have a few items that are worth over $500.00 that I plan to sell later on. On these items I do not want to accept credit card payments in case the buyers try to do a chargeback. Is there any way I can deny credit card payments for certain items or am I stuck once I start accepting credit card payments? Thanks for any help!

Carol,

You can certainly adjust your payment options on ebay from one auction to the next. So, for the high ticket items you list later on, you can choose to accept only Money Orders/Certified checks and exclude any reference to PayPal.

If you are asking about modifying the PayPal methods, that I am less sure of... I think way back someone (maybe DMRick?) said that one could switch from a business back to personal account only once. But I'd suggest you double check with PayPal on that.

I do know that there is a feature in the PayPal account profile that you can turn on to have PayPal automatically update your auction listings with a PayPal payment button. You'd want to be sure that was turned off (if you use it now) in the above scenario.

Perhaps someone else will kick in a bit more info.

I think it's hard to sell something over $500 and not expect the person to want their own protection via Paypal. That said, when I sell items I think will go way up in price, I sometimes make it Money order, or cashier's check only. They often will then write and ask if I'll accept paypal, and depending on my mood, I may say yes, after looking at their feedback.
Not accepting CC is not going to stop chargebacks, just keep that in mind. They can still tell Paypal stories and get them to do a chargeback.

Thank you for the help! I was just wondering how someone can do a chargeback through Paypal if you didn't accept a credit card payment from them? As you can tell I'm brand new to selling on Ebay even though I've been meaning to try it for 2 years now. This thread has inspired me to actually sell some things!

Just wanted to pop in for a minute and see how everyone is doing.. My ebay sales this week are PATHETIC.. Actually, BEYOND pathetic!! But I guess it's all part of the game.. Feast or famine..

How is everyone else doing? I'm heading up to the lake for a week, so unless I come home for a day or two mid-week, I probably won't get anything new listed next week.. Boo..hiss..

Watch - NEXT week will be when everyone starts BIDDING again!! LOL

;)

Sorry to hear the lousy results for your sake, though I am kind of glad it was not just me...

One item from my cellar ended last night with 12 bids for $45.51, and that was great (started at 14.99), and I also had a BIN on Monday, but otherwise YUCK. I have 8 items listed currently with only one with bids. They all end on Sunday and I sure hope it picks up!

I found a flea market with some terrific vintage stuff... DH and I got there at noon last Sunday and they were all packing up. Can't wait to go back this weekend and get there EARLY!!! Don't know if it's coincidence or not, but it seems that if I can pay a quarter on something, it sells for me for $$$$$.

Also went and found my college textbooks for courses I took within the past 5 years and listed them on half.com. We'll see how they do. I've been pleasantly surprised with Half.... sold 10 books & CDs in 17 days so far. Not bad. And I don't get obsessive having to check for bids every half hour!!! ;)

I got my first bid today! Woo hoo! I'm so excited. Just when I was getting discouraged.

Maggie

I had my first BIN last nite!!! Probably because I offerred free shipping with BIN, the buyer is in ALASKA!!!!

I'm doing pretty decent this week - selling mostly high end make-up. Is it bad that I can't wait for fall/winter so more people are bidding? LOL

I did make myself a little goal chart this week though. I figured out how much our May trip will cost and divided the chart into $10 incriments. Each time I make $10 profit I get to X off a little box. It's fun to watch the X's add up! (Ok, I'm a compulsive list maker too and I love to cross things off my lists :o ) Hey, whatever keeps ya motivated, right? :Pinkbounc

Hey, whatever keeps ya motivated, right?

You got it, Lori!!!

Actually, I find it interesting that you went with $10 increments. I set a goal to try to average $10 per day between when I came back from my last vacation (7/11) and my next one (10/21), which would give me about $1,000. Since we are DVC members, that will nicely cover the airfare, car rental & park tickets. Meals are tackled by saving change, $1 bills and any rebates, discounts and a few other methods. So far, between my ebay and half.com proceeds, I'm staying on target, actually even a little bit ahead.

I just try to stay positive, and the support from this board and thread go a long way toward that!

:) Sounds like my oldest DS and I. We used the vacation budget sheet in Works to figure out the cost of our next trip. Each time we meet a goal.....like a Character lunch at Garden Grill we type in a note at the bottom that its paid for.

I didnt have any auctions up this week since I'm going to scout camp this coming week but we did find a few old items that I think will sell quite well. If they dont we're only out $2.10 for the whole bunch.

I try to average $10/day as well, some weeks are better than others! :) Some weeks it's all I can do to get through my FT job much less deal with eBay (but that's a whole 'nother story).

The hardest thing for me right now is that I WANT TO GO SHOPPING! LOL! I want to check out auctions, garage sales, estate sales, whatever and find goodies to sell on eBay. But *sniff, sniff* I promised myself I'd clean out a lot of the packratty "junk" (hey, it's someone else's treasures!) of our apt before I bought stuff to sell. *sigh* DH is very surprised at the restraint I've been showing! :o

I am pretty excited though - I'm going to see my Mom tomorrow and she's got an old $1 casino chip from the Landmark Hotel in Las Vegas. The last one that sold on eBay in early July (which was identical to hers, but she says hers is in better condition) sold for $182!! And she's giving it to me to sell! (Gotta love Moms!) Apparently it's a first edition chip and the hotel has been demolished. She said to me "you mean I actually saved good junk?" LOL. She's got some other old casino chips too, we haven't researched them yet. It just goes to show that you never know what people collect! Mom gets a big kick out of my eBaying. She does rewards programs to fund Disney trips, I do eBay.

Which reminds me of this thread I book marked from the eBay discussion boards - it's called "what do you collect?" I know it gave me some good ideas on things that could sell - might inspire you guys!

Ok, off to spend some time with DH! Hope everyone's auctions end with green this weekend!

Oh my, Lori!! I just checked out that thread and I have like a GAZILLION things I could offer those people!!!

Unfortunately I'm heading to the lake tomorrow for a week so I won't be able to list.. sob..choke...sniffle...

Who wants to go to the LAKE when you can stay home and make MONEY - right? LOL

Man - I've got it bad! No if the bidders would just come out of hiding this week......................

Lori, what an awesome thread! Much food for thought as I tackle the yard sales and flea market this weekend!

Yippeeee!

I for one think everyone is one vacation this week. I had excellent sales the last 2 weeks. Sold most everything I listed. I have 14 auctions ending over Saturday and Sunday, and only one has a bid. I just went ahead and lowered a few of the prices on things where I had some "elbow room" on the listed price. I hope next week is better. Just when I thought I was on a roll.

I know EXACTLY how you feel!! The two weeks prior to this I thought I died and went to "eBay heaven" - LOL - and this week -well, let's just say I went in the OPPOSITE direction!! :(

I've also had quite a few people I had to file NPB's against the past few weeks and others are agonizingly slow to pay - I've had to hound the living daylights out of them!

I was going to list more things for next week before I leave for the lake, but I think I'll wait and see what happens with the stuff I have up now.. If it moves at the last minute ("something" is better than "nothing") then I'll come home next week for a day or so and put more stuff up..

When is this "BUSY" season all the veteran's talk about?? I want it - and I want it NOW !!!!! LOL!!!

Good luck to all that have auctions ending this weekend!! ;)

I think things pick up once school is back in session. Then once it starts getting colder and people are indoors more and shopping for holiday gifts. I did really well last Nov-Dec, but then things were dead for a bit in January. I guess people had holiday shopping burn out (and huge CC bills!) But it seemed to pick up again in February (which would be a good time for jewlery I'd guess - Valentine's Day gifts!) We also had a really cold, snowy winter here in the North East which was miserable, but I'm sure helped sales! LOL

Sounds like eBay follows the way of most sale seasons. The fourth quarter at the radio station what the busiest while the summer was a BUMMER!

This past week was INCREDIBLE for me for some strange reason. I had to slow down for my vacation last week but it picked up, thank goodness, this week. I think it really depends on the consumer, sometimes there's that ONE person who needs what you have and does a search... who knows?

I've listed things I thought the world would descend down upon and they FOUGHT over things I could give a hoot about!! :p

Well, I'm about to move in about a month and I'm holding my moving sale right on eBay. Some of the things I'm just about giving away because it's better to sell than to move! I'm so amazed at what people will buy, and WHY!

C.Ann, hold your head up! The one thing about eBay we all learned is that there are GREAT DAYS and not so great days. But with anything you have to persevere. And to the victor comes the spoils... right??? :p

I had a bidder on an item with a -3 feedback, haven't heard from them and it's been 5 days!!!!!!! What's up? I thought Ebay revoked their bidding privileges after 3 negatives???? These were all different sellers.

- 3 and they're still allowed to bid? Okay - now I'M confused!!

Two questions here.. First, if someone bids and I see they have a - or I check their feedback and it's bad, can I do anything about that while the auction is still going on?

Secondly, I have some items that I want to list that won't cost me much to ship and I want to offer free shipping to try to stimulate sales.. Can I put "free shipping" right in the title or do I have to put it on the auction page within the description?

As you can plainly see, I didn't make it to the lake yet.. My DH's medicine didn't come in the mail (that's how the VA supplies it) so we'll have to wait and see what happens on Monday.. I'm SOOO ticked about this - took me 2 weeks and 4 calls for them to finally get on it and now he took his LAST pill today! It's important (high blood pressure med) so you would THINK they would have made sure it was here on time.. GRRRRRRRR.. Oh well - no sense fretting about it, I guess..

I finally managed to sell two items today.. Nothing to get excited about, but like I've said before - every DOLLAR is......ONE DOLLAR CLOSER TO DISNEY !!!!!

Yaaaay eBay!!!!!!!!!
