For those of you without a digital camera-do you have a scanner? I used my scanner to take "photos" of my items for a couple of years! It worked just fine. :) You can slap just about anything on there and get a decent picture! :)

Excellent suggestion!! You get to go to the head of the class !! :)

Ironically, I just used my scanner today for an item I put up for auction because my cheapy camera couldn't get a clear enough shot!! Scanner worked great!

C.Ann you are a great motivator! I'm listing/re-listing several things tonight. I want to run more auctions, but this is a *really* bad time for me at my full time job, so I'm trying not to overload myself :(

Okay, I have a timing question. I DON'T WANT TO PUT THIS OFF ANYMORE, AND I am off from work tomorrow. I want to get everything up, 20 to 30 items (pictures and descriptions are saved on 6 items so far). Do you think that starting all of the auctions on a Wed. for 7 days is a good idea? You guys have suggested that Thurs. and Sun. are good ending days, but if I do it tomorrow, then my ending date will be next Wed., and if I wait until Sunday, then all of my auctions would end on....Father's Day.

Will it cost me .10 per item to list tomorrow but have the auctions actually start on Thurs.? Say I get 20 things tomorrow to start on Thurs., that's $2.00 (of my profit:( ) already. Should I just bite the bullet and go for it (for Thursday) and possible better results?

I have to add that I AM a little nervous about this - I went through the whole process of adding an item, redoing the description and my terms about 1000 times, and I really choked on hitting "submit" (Seriously, I want to list them all for the same day, so I don't have just one lame auction out there....):D

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST! I AM VERY EXCITED TO FINALLY BE DOING THIS AND EARNING $$ FOR DISNEY!!

:bounce: :bounce: Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah!!!:bounce: :bounce:

C.Ann you are the best!

I just spent all day shipping out all of the items I sold while on vacation!! Wow, that's a job in itself!!

I'm sort of "anal" about shipping, I really want it done the way I expect to see it come to me. I've been a buyer much longer than I've been a seller so knowing what I'd expect I try to do for my buyers.

I sold two little lamps my Mom and Dad had in their bedroom. My mother would turn on one of those lamps every night before she slept at night.

After they both died my sister brought them over to my house. I couldn't bear looking at them. I took a picture and put them on ebay.

They sold for $26! I KNOW my Mom didn't spend that much on them when she bought them new! But the memories were priceless. It's going to be hard just to pack them up... :(

Well, anyway, I sold a bunch of Michael's old educational stuff and people were fighting over them. Only one thing didn't sell, 11 books I sold as a lot, so I relisted them, lowered the price and they got a bid almost immediately. I just want them OUT OF MY HOUSE! :teeth:

I've got goo gobs of stuff to put up this week. I need to pay for the meals I ate last week! :teeth:

Oh my! :o I'm just trying to keep everyone motivated here.. It would be so easy to give up if we had a week of bad sales or whatever, but giving up will NOT get us to Disney World!!

If we run into a stumbling block - well - then gosh darn it, we need to go UNDER it, OVER it, or AROUND it - but we can't give up!!

I never, ever thought I could make this kind of money sitting in front of my computer selling off "stuff" that's in my way, but I'm doing it - and so can all of you.. You just have to stay focused - and more importantly, "believe".....

Now - anybody interested in this hot neon pink dog collar I'm about to put up for auction???? LOL ;) Believe me, someone WILL buy it!!

You guys have suggested that Thurs. and Sun. are good ending days,

Those are days that the stats show lots of people on eBay..but that doens't mean they are buying..they may all be there putting up auctions. There are tons of reasons one day may be better than another..but really, if someone is looking for what you have to sell, they'll find it no matter what day you list on.
My only real recommendation is not to end it too early in the morning, and miss the people out west. A lot of people say Monday's are bad, but I sell a lot of my retired husbands tools on Mondays. For a while I was listing on Tues-Weds because it was convenient for me..and I still sold. Sometimes I put up 10 day auctions on a Thursday and get skunked..other days I can't keep up.
They say don't list to end during Super Bowl..I say why not..those of us who hate football want something to do. I like to list during lots of rain..I seem to do well..but duh! it's only raining at my house..not in sunny California.
Don't worry about listing and ending..you'll feel your way and soon see what works best for you.

Those of you selling very low end stuff..just be sure to do the math. You do need to take all of your fees into consideration. Although it's fun to sell on eBay, you might want to group items to keep the fees down. I helped out a gal a couple of years ago get started, and when I did her Schedule C, we found out that all that money that came in on eBay..went back out..in fees, gas, etc. She really never looked a the whole picture. She did a lot of work for just about nothing.

Also, don't feel that just because some of us put up a 100 or more auctions, that you have to compete...and end up burning yourself out. Unless people are looking at just your seller list..they have no way of knowing if you have one item up or a zillion. Have fun with it!

Not to rain on CAnn...because if she could sell her enthusiasm, she would be rich..but not everything sells....or I should say not everything sells at a price that makes the work worth it. CAnn has a lot of stuff to sell right in her house. Not all of us do. Do some homework on eBay first, before you do the work of listing, and see if you will be happy with what you are likely to get. I have a brand new paid of Scooby slippers..brandy new. I think they should go for $5.00. I see they are selling (when they are selling) for .99. Not worth putting up in my mind. Don't be discouraged, most of us have something good to sell we don't want anymore, but also, don't expect everything to bring vintage Barbie Doll prices...and decide which items will be worth it to you.

I am going to sell the clothes that my kids outgrew, so I am hoping that any potential buyers will then check out my other auctions if they like what they see. I figured that listing everything in the same size at the same time would be a good plan! :D Once I get through all of THAT stuff, I may have to move on to my Star Trek stuff that I've been shelping around for 15 years!!;)

...for the click here link - I didn't know about that one!!:D

Another student checking into class. I began selling a few items last summer, but didn't follow through with it. Sorry teacher :( But....... I started again after I started reading this thread! I just listed 9 items today and still have 4 more to do tonight. It doesn't seem to be as active as it was last summer (But I was selling back to school clothes in July) so I am listing other stuff while I wait for July to come back around. I would just like to say thank you to C.Ann and everyone else for encouraging me to get off my butt & list! Keep the good advice coming-We students need to learn! :teeth:

during the girl scout cookie sale it was WAY too cold to go outside, and my son had surgery. I ended up buying $300 worth of girl scout cookies, and only unloaded a fraction on friends and neighbors. Donated about half of it to local groups and still had several cases sitting here, making me feel guilty about not getting it together to have DD sell more. On a whim, I checked ebay, and discovered they go for more than I paid.

A case of samoas or tagalongs, all of which I gave away is going for more than $60 (paid price is $36). Looks like you could ebay your way to Disney selling girl scout cookies.

(Don't flame me; I've donated my daughter's net worth several times over to the GS this year.)

Last year that became a big deal and our local paper or TV (can't remember which) ran a story on it. At that time our local girls were told that the Girl Scout Council would not allow the cookies to be sold on eBay. I guess they saw the light LOL!

I decided to experiment with a few items today. Since it seems that buyers are waiting until the last minute to bid anyways, I listed some auctions at 3 days only. This will have them end on Saturday afternoon, but I will see how it goes. :)

Okay, okay - I admit I did get a little discouraged when my item didn't get any bids but I am going to list some more.

I think I am in that mode where I want to research everything to death - I need to get out of that mode and get busy selling.

Thank you all you "experts" for your valuable advice.

I did it - I did it - I did it

Rah, Rah, Rah

I listed four items just now. We'll see how they do. I finally bit the bullet and listed four at once. Yippee for me!!!

Okay C.Ann and everyone else keep me encouraged.

Good for you!! :)

By the time all was said and done yesterday, I had listed about 60 items - but haven't listed ONE thing today.

Look at it this way - if you don't "list" it, then it's for SURE it won't sell - right?;)

Keep up the good work!

I don't know how the last penny gallery sale was for anyone else, but many of my items did not sell during that time. When I relisted them after the sale was over, they all sold. I wonder if the benefits of the sale might be seriously challenged by a glut of items for the same period?

I wonder about that, too, erinch...

I've only been doing this for three weeks but the first week I did my research was in the middle of a penny sale. Things were not selling so I waited. After the sale was over the same things I researched were selling like hotcakes.

I guess it's the old "supply and demand" mantra.

I'm putting up a bunch of stuff tomorrow, mostly for 10 days. I've found that the longer they stay up the higher the price goes! At least it worked for me!

:wave:Welcome aboard cinlee and nuke!!

Things were not selling so I waited.

I wish I could figure it out. I've listed during penny gallery, I've not listed..no way to figure out if one is good and the isn't. Sometimes during penny time, I've done wonderful...lots of people on looking to see what is being put up because of penny day..other times, slowwwwww..like you said, too many items up.
Same with the traditional 2 times a year free listing (which is due end of June)..sometimes we do great..sometimes we don't. Sometimes I list on Thursdays..sometimes I list other days. Who knows what makes it a busy time (except end of Sept - Jan...nothing stops the sales then!). Sometimes it's raining all over the country and everyone is on buying..sometimes, the weather is wonderful, and everyone is buying..sometimes they aren't LOL! Sometimes they aren't . Most times I sell for 10 days, which makes my buy it now rate higher (people don't want to wait). Other times it's too long, the people don't want to BIN and 10 days is too late for them to bid (for those who like ot bid late, so as not to bid up the price). Who knows LOL! But generally, if you have it priced right, it will sell within the first two listings. I have three things up just because people wrote yesterday, and told me they missed the auction or didn't get a chance to bid against the other person. Well, if they don't bid soon, they are going to miss it again.
