You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

Starting this February I have had non-paying bidders, buyers that aren't happy no matter what, and all around weirdo's bidding and emailing me about my stuff.

The more advertising eBay does on the TV, it seems the more I have to work with newbie's on buying and paying protocal. They don't seem to be reading the eBay rules, about "bidding is a contract" etc. In talking with others, it seems that clothing sales draw the most non paying bidder's, with the most excuses. I'm glad I don't sell clothes!

I agree! Lately there have been more and more articles on eBaying in magazines and on TV, and more and more people are trying it. Look at how many of us C.Ann alone recruited!!!

I had a buyer who wasn't paying, but kept emailing me that she would. Finally, after a month passed without payment, I sent her a kind reminder that she still hadn't paid, and that I noticed she was new to eBay, and perhaps she didn't know what the protocal was. I informed her that payment is usually expected within 10 days unless other arrangements had been made with the seller.

She sent me an answer admitting she was new to eBay, and wasn't aware. Two days later, the money order for the items was in my hand.

Why people don't read the fine print is beyond me. I read, reread, and read again to make sure I understand what is required.

as is writing a bunch of keywords and putting it in white so no one can she it..some people put in a thousand words..so no matter what your search, you always end up at one of their auctions.

Well, I guess that helps explain some of the odd things I've gotten back a couple of times when I'm searching!

Wanted to report back to "class" on my auctions that ended Sunday. Out of six auctions, five had bids, and all paid by PayPal (although one with an echeck so it's not cleared yet). So I mailed the four packages out today, no hassles at all. MUCH easier than my first round attempt!

I added up what I've gotten, and subtracted all the expenses, including packaging materials, and I almost have enough for a Pal Mickey :-)

I finally heard yesterday from the buyer I had who sent a check (I don't take checks). It seems he is not going to pay another way, so I guess I'll be learning how Second Chance offers work now!

Can someone please tell me what an echeck is??

I think I am getting this figured out but now am getting a little worried since I was planning on listing some clothing.

Okay "class" - LISTEN UP !!!

This is a CHALLENGE for all of those who have just gotten started on eBay via this thread............

Between the night before last - and noon today - I have put up 53 auctions !!!

Who wants to try to top that???? ("Veteran's" need not apply - LOL !!)......

And.......... I still have MORE going up today!!

Come on class - let's get moving !!

For anyone planning a December trip (like me) you only have approx. 26 weeks left - and if you only list weekly then you only have 26 more tries to make all the money you need!!

MOVE IT !!!!!!!! ;)

Yay eBay!!!! I'm goin' to Disney !!!!!!

"Between the night before last - and noon today - I have put up 53 auctions "

I have to ask, WHAT ARE YOU SELLING????? I've found some baskets, maybe a comforter set, some of the kids computer games and maybe my dd's Playstation with some games... BUT 53 things??? LOL What is YOUR secret?

Who wants to try to top that???? ("Veteran's" need not apply - LOL !!)......

Hey no fair..especially if there is a prize involved!! Hey CAnn...I'd say with all the sales you have had (and the time you have now been a "member"), I think it's time to call yourself a veteran.

With free gallery (well, a penny) til Thursday, I'll be putting up about a 100 tonight and tomorrow (if we ever get the last batch out the door..I've packed my share..hubby is still woring hard to pack his share)..however, I'm cheating, since I mostly sell the same thing over and over (not all..I got some new "old stuff" up this week too), and other than having to change my sales tax (NYS had a jump this week, and I'm selling items from my business, so I HAVE to charge tax on those items), they are always ready to go.

C.Ann:

Does Quantity or Quality count? I just sold a single item for $225 yesterday .

You go Robin!! You guys are really getting me fired up to start listing things (I wanted to wait until my dh got home on Friday- he has sold a few things) but I'm not sure I can wait!

(I have visions of C.Ann just going through her house putting things in a big basket, "This can go, oh that can go, what about the dog?":D )

I don't have much to sell either. Pretty much all I have is misses/womens clothes and they usually don't sell well. I have no kids and I've been working every weekend so I haven't had a chance to go to any rummage sales. I'm happy for the rest of you though. :D

Okay! Fine!! You can play too - BUT you can't count the same thing that you're selling over and over - LOL!

I've been going like a house on fire here - especially for items that would benefit from the 1-cent gallery photos!!

This has got to be my most PRODUCTIVE day and a half EVER!!!!!!!;)

Darn! Ya nailed me!!!! LOL

Seriously though, I've done a LOT of research and if anything has sold EVER, then if I have one, I'm slapping it up there too!

It's all just "stuff" that's cluttering up my house - BUT when I look at it, I see Disney Dollars and suddenly I don't want it anymore - LOL!

Take a looooooong hard look around your house - you would be surprised what you can "part" with if it means a trip to Disney!!

Now where did I put that wedding ring..............;)

"Now where did I put that wedding ring.............."

ROTFLMBO! The way my dh is acting towards a Disney trip- HE just might go up on e-bay!

I was thinking about how it might help to "de-clutter" this place! I wish I knew how to use our digital camera.... I'd have to start listing stuff!!

Ok, I have patiently read every page of this thread and have to say that the thought of putting my DH up has definately occured to me..LOL

I would love to do this but am having a hard time getting myself started. I don't have a digital camera so I was just gonna take the pics and have them put on a disc, but I am hesitant as I am not that computer literate...

I am not sure it is worth all the prep and am very confused about how to handle all the shipping issues and this paypal thing.

I will keep reading I guess!

Hey - NO ONE was (is) more computer illiterate than me! I didn't have a digital camera either - and no money to buy a nice one, so I bought a little battery operated Jam Cam 3.0 on eBay (brand new) and I think with shipping & handling it only came to $30 or so.. I buy CHEAP 2-in the pkg. 9 volt batteries in the Dollar Store and they last me quite awhile.. I'm not selling anything that needs to be seen in fine detail, so this camera is just the ticket..

Now - it will come with a CD (to load the My Jams program) and a cord that will attach to the camera and to the back of your computer. If you get one (mine is the 3.0 ) and have problems trying to figure it out you can PM me and I'll help you along..

Posting the photos on eBay is REALLY easy - and we'll help you with that once you get a camera..

Shipping & handling? I bought a cheap postal scale at Office Max (I think it was $30 total) that will weigh up to 5 lbs. - and also gives you ounces.. Then you go to the usps.com site (for the post office), print out their postal charts and fees - and again, we'll help you from there..

You CAN do this!! Please don't be afraid!! I was - and I wasted SOOOOOOOOO much valuable time.. Now I'm making GOOD money that's going to pay for a trip for THREE to Disney, Universal/IOA, and Sea World in December.. I already have enough money from eBay to pay for some of the things and I have NO doubt that I'll be able to pay for the entire trip (including spending and food money) strictly from my eBay venture..

I just wish I started a long, LONG time ago!!!!!

Don't be afraid - we'll help you!! :)

A few pages back I was crying about not having any bidders on my first ebay item. Well, I sold it, plus one other item:) ! I am so excited! Thanks for the words of encouragement, everyone. Someone asked what an e-check was. I am curious too. Does anyone have an answer? Also, I just received a paypal payment for one of my items. Do you all usually ship immediately, next day or do you ship your items only once a week? What do the veterans do?

Okay class - I'm detecting a little discouragement among some of you - as well as some fears, and lack of stick-to-it-tiveness....

Soooooo.. We're going to have a class in motivation today!!;)
-------------------

Now - let me start off with people who are fearful of accepting checks.. I have probably sold over a hundred items now, received personal checks for many of them (before I started to accept credit cards) and I never had a problem with any of them.. If you're talking a relatively small amount of money (say under $25 or so) and the item you've sold would have either gone in the trash or sold for 50 cents in a garage sale, isn't it worth the risk to just take the check and be done with it? Simply stash that cash aside for a month or so - just in case the check does bounce and you have to redeposit the money in your bank account.. The goal is to get to Disney.. You must keep that in mind at all times and swallow those fears...;)

Next is the NPB's.. Yes - they're out there.. I've only had 1 that didn't come through and I simply relisted the item (after emailing this person numerous times) and it SOLD - no muss, no fuss.. It's a given with eBay that some folks will NEVER pay, but what about the other 100 that will? You wanna go to Disney - right?;)

Wondering about selling clothes 'cause someone else ended up with NPB's?? Well, I'll bet for every person who had an NPB, 75 other sellers had NO problems at all! Are you still thinking Disney?? ;)

Now - are you still sitting on the fence about getting started? Maybe you're started, but stalled? Or you're procrastinating - thinking you'll list a few more things "tomorrow"?? Could be headed for trouble there - you might wake up some morning and find out "tomorrow" is actually today - the day you were supposed to be heading out to Disney - IF you had done your homework!!;)

Nothing to sell? I doubt it!! Have you really looked long and hard around your house? Got any collections you've lost interest in? What about all those horrible birthday/Christmas gifts - still brand new, but stuck up on a shelf in the closet? How about souveniers from someplace you have gone, but someone else has never had the opportunity to go to and would like a momento from? Do you know that people collect virtually everything - new and old?? Maps; cookie cutters; post cards; cookbooks; hats; key chains; advertising pens and pencils; anything with a certain animal on it; coffee mugs; can openers; stencils; coloring books; costume jewelry; magnets; old cameras; playing cards; and on and on and on... You DO have items to sell!!!;)

Of course if you're going to stick with this plan, then you need daily motivation as well.. Here are some ideas:

Place Disney World photos all around your computer.. Stick a few on your fridge too!

Play Disney soundtracks whenever you can - try for once a day..

Browse through photos from PAST trips if you've been there before.. Remember how great it was - and how bad you want to go back again..

Go on-line and sign up for every single brochure or travel packet you can find for Disney and have them sent to your HOME.. That way every day when you get the mail, your goal will be staring you right in the face!!!

Plan, plan, plan that trip! Spend a bit of time each day looking at various motel/hotels - even if you have already chosen one.. It keeps you motivated and if you see something you like BETTER but will cost you an extra seventy bucks for your stay, then it will motivate you to find one - or several things - that you can sell that will bring in that extra money!!

Come on gang - WE CAN DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay ebay!! I'm goin' to Disney!!!!!!!!!

An echeck is just that..an electronic check. If someone doens't have a credit card tied to Paypal for payment, or funds in their account, they pay using their checking account electonically. It usually takes 4 business days for Paypal to actually have the money form the checking account, so they don't giv eyou the money, until they have it. People who pay with an echeck can cancel right up until the check clears, so I don't ship until Paypal tells me it's clear.

We ship 2-3 days a week this time of year. In the summer one day a week, and from Sept to Feb, every day. We try to plan other chores around the shipping, such as today, when we stopped and did our grocery shopping on our way home.

Just curious C.Ann, were you ever a cheerleader?:teeth:

You sure sound like you could have been, or at least a motivational speaker! Thanks for keeping us going! I listed a few more items today, taking advantage of the $.01 gallery offering. My auctions over the weekend sold all but 2 items, but I am dealing with smaller numbers. I prefer to handle only 10 or less auctions a week. (This years trip is covered, I'm working on next years!) I already have a few bids on auctions that don't end until Sunday! Yippee!!!
