You can lead a tree to water....

But can you make it drink? I'm worried my tree doesn't seem to be sucking up any water. I remember trees always drinking the most in the beginning days. I'm worried it'll be completely dried out by xmas :(
 
This is why I went with a fake tree. Four Christmases ago, I kept watering the tree, not knowing that I was pouring water in one side of the resevoir and going out the other side. It was one of those great manipulative tree stand. It really helps to straighten the tree, but the water-holder was so tilted. I almost ruined the wood floor beneath the tree!
 
Good luck with your tree...ours is surely thirsty...it is just a few days old in our house anyway...who knows when it was actually cut down!
 
Stupid question, because I'm sure you did this, but...

Did you cut a portion off of the bottom of the trunk before you put it in the stand? The sap seals the cut made by the tree farm - so very little water can be absorbed. You have to make a fresh cut.

I know - you probably did this.
