Northern ol'bats (from SC) migrate to the Fort for often and extended stays!!!

I love my kids but sometimes don't ya just want to stay home and not run to ballgames. I thought we were done for the year and then my DD12 makes the volleyball team. Now its practices all summer and games until the end of oct. We are proud of her 30 some girls tried out for 6 slots and she got one. We live out in the boonies so gas is not helping this matter since her school is in town. One of these days i'll probably wish she was still at home and running to ball games though.

You always want your kids to make the team but never really like it when they do..hehe

My oldest dd drove me nuts with sports now she sits on her butt all day at work..lol :surfweb:

Okay, so I jinxed myself. Last night we spent 2 hours in the basement because of water. Thank goodness DS was down there and noticed it early. Our sump pump clogged and water started coming in. If anyone sees the news, MSNBC has it on. Lake Delton in central Wisconsin has gone over it's banks and is flowing into the Wisconsin River. Houses are being washed into the river. We are supposed to go camping up there this weekend for a family reunion. The campground has called because they were hit really bad with the storms and will let us know if they can accomodate us later in the week. The state is really a mess right now!

wow, I hope everything works out for you guys, that's crazy. Is your house going to be alright?

Man, floods stink. I was in Missouri many years ago right after one (93-94 I think) and everything was a big mess. Hope everything works out.

Wow! I'm so sorry to hear this. I read where Michigan (near Grand Rapids) got hit pretty hard with flooding too. I hope your home is okay. Was DH able to fix the pump? Or by that time...did it even matter? Keeping my fingers crossed.

So, how many of you have been affected by the tomato recall? We went out to lunch today at work, and we couldn't order anything at the restaurant that was tomato based, and there were no tomatoes on our salads.

I just read a couple hours ago that McDonalds has now stopped using sliced tomatoes nationwide, and that Winn Dixie and other chains are pulling all tomatoes from their stores.

To be honest, I had no clue it was even going on, but my friend said that he went to two grocery stores looking for tomatoes and couldn't find any. It was funny listening to the waiter tell us no we couldn't have any chili because it was tomato based, crazy times.

Oh my gosh, I had bo ideal but we were all wondering why we went to Taco Bell for lunch and no one had tomatoes on their tacos. :idea:

There was a sign at Burger King at lunch today. No tomatos. I ordered a fish sandwich instead. Can't have a burger or chicken sandwich without a tomato!!!

Yea, I'm surprised that the mainstream news isn't picking up more on this story, I mean to me, the fact that mainstream restaurants and chains are not serving them, and that grocery stores are pulling them from shelves, I just don't know why it's not all over the news.

Remember when there was a salad recall a while ago? That was all over the news, and I still barely see this story on any of the main news sites. I don't really understand what gives with this, why isn't this more of a story?

I would hate to own an Italian restaurant right now, that's for sure...lol

Ive heard nothing about this....why no tomatos???

What's going on with the tomatoes?? I just bought some at a road-side stand. Roh-roe, Rastro!!!

I know here in Texas there is a big tomato recall due to a salmonella (sp?) outbreak that has been linked to tomatoes. You can't find any at the store or at restaurants right now. There are 2 girls on my daughter's gym team that they believe got the illness from eating tomatoes.

Yea, there have been 143 cases of salmonella since April, including 23 that sent people to the hospital. It's been traced back to bad tomatoes from some places, but they're not sure exactly where, so now places are starting to pull them until they can figure it out.

It's not all tomatoes, and it depends on where they're from. I do know that Florida is a large tomato producing state, and that Florida is one of the states that they haven't ruled out yet.

Here is an article...

http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/tomatoes.html

The Food and Drug Administration is alerting consumers nationwide that a salmonellosis outbreak appears to be linked to consumption of certain types of raw red tomatoes and products containing raw red tomatoes. The bacteria causing the illnesses are Salmonella serotype Saintpaul, an uncommon type of Salmonella.

The specific type and source of tomatoes are under investigation. However, preliminary data suggest that raw red plum, raw red Roma, or raw round red tomatoes are the cause. At this time, consumers should limit their tomato consumption to tomatoes that have not been implicated in the outbreak. These include cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached, and tomatoes grown at home.

The Food and Drug Administration has expanded its warning to consumers nationwide that a salmonellosis outbreak has been linked to consumption of certain raw, red tomatoes.

At this time, FDA is advising consumers to limit their consumption of tomatoes to the following types of tomatoes. The following types of tomatoes listed below are NOT likely to be the source of this outbreak.

* cherry tomatoes
* grape tomatoes
* tomatoes sold with the vine still attached
* tomatoes grown at home

Also, FDA recommends consuming raw red plum, raw red Roma, or raw red round tomatoes only if grown and harvested from the following areas that HAVE NOT BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE OUTBREAK:

Arkansas
California
Georgia
Hawaii
North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas

Belgium
Canada
Dominican Republic
Guatemala
Israel
Netherlands
Puerto Rico

Consumers who are unsure of where the tomatoes are from that they have in their home are encouraged to contact the store or place of purchase for that information.

Consumers should also be aware that raw tomatoes are often used in the preparation of fresh salsa, guacamole, and pico de gallo, are part of fillings for tortillas, and are used in other dishes.

Restaurants, grocery stores, and food service operators have been advised by the FDA not to offer for sale or service raw red plum, Roma, or red tomatoes and products made from these types of tomatoes unless they are from one of the areas listed above.

Since mid April, there have been 145 reported cases of salmonellosis nationwide caused by Salmonella Saintpaul, an uncommon form of Salmonella. At least 23 hospitalizations have been reported.
