Get your brains out of the toilet. My DD has stitches in her foot. She is not supposed to emerge them in the water. Given that its 90 million degrees outside and we have a pool, she wants to go swimming. I've tried waterproof bandages, but the proximity of the stitches to her toes makes them hard to use and stay on. Sooooooo.......is there such a thing as a rubber sock?????? Like a rubber glove, but for feet????? We've tried plastic bags, but they don't stay on too well either. I'm thinking a rubber sock would be perfect.

Saran wrap and duct tape!!!!!

As I said earlier..maybe you could go to your local pharmacy..or even a medical suppy would be better. They did have something that my daughter was able to put over her arm when it was casted. She broke it on Father's day a few years back..and then we had SIX WEEKS of a cast in the heat of a summer. Maybe you'd be able to use it on her foot. I'd try it on the good foot first..and see that it worked before chancing it on the stitched foot. Hope this helps. ;)

Your DD needs one of these. I had it for my two previous foot surgeries and I used it when my son sliced his hand open on my fabric die cutters. I am more than willing to loan it to you or you can go to the local podiatrist and pick one up.

That is so sweet! I'll check out the local places around here and let you know if I find something like that! Thank you!

Annalise is swimming now. I put on one of those waterproof bandages, plus water resistant wrap. It won't last long, but maybe long enough? The girls and Scott are out there waiting on Stellaluna ( a bat that comes to drink from the pool at dusk)....makes me think of poor Shannone!

Ami, How long will she have the stitches in for?

Thanks for the well wishes guys. We were fortunate with the amount of water we had. We are 2 hours away from where the lake emptied out into the WI River. They just showed it on the news again and the lake is completely empty. We were supposed to go there this weekend for our reunion. The good news is I think I got the last dehumidifier in the area :) . We are the lucky ones, many have had to leave their homes. This is a picture of what is left of some homes on Lake Delton.

Seabee- How's Jim? How are YOU holding up? Have you checked into that campground yet? Is there anything you need that WE could help you with? I know you are all the way up in Maine and all....but a care package? Something? I feel so helplessly wanting to help you, here!

Thanks for thinking of us. Jim is alright. Right now we are just waiting for surgery on Thursday. I am quite irritated however that he is starting to get "spots" on his butt. He has been injured now for 5 years, and we had not ONE mark on his skin. I am the butt nazi so to speak, and now he is getting the starting of sores.:furious: The problem is that I haven't been there as much for the last 3 days. I think the nurses have gotten use to me being there and turning him. I told his nurse tonight that I wanted him turned every 2 hours. I told her, I haven't had anything on his skin in 5 years, we aren't starting now. Of course he is in his chair all the time here, and not laying in a bed. And we also found out that the doctor isn't going to be able to get both kidney's done in one swoop, so it looks like possibly 2 more surgeries after this one.:faint: I want him to come home, I just feel like being in that bed for so long is going to lead to other problems that we don't need. I can't wait for school to be done so that I can be more on top of what is going on down there.

I did check into the campground. Range Pond Campground in Poland, ME.The camper is there right now actually. We figured it was actually cheaper for us to reserve the site for 6 weeks starting now, and not use it every night, then it would be to get a hotel room for the nights I would need until the girls are out of school. The campground is nothing spectacular but it is nice, and there are a lot of kids. Our site is huge, you probably could fit 2 trailers there. I will have to take a pic when we are finally "moved" in. I have to get a new rug to put under the awning. Any suggestions where I can get one for not an astronomical price? I checked Wal-Mart today but they didn't have any.

Wow....Im hating that they arent giving him as good of care as YOU give him. Thats what they have been trained to do, thats what they get paid to do...why arent they doing it???? I mean, they should be thankful that YOU catch their slack when you ARE there, cant they do their part when you CANT be there???? This is pretty disturbing. Im so sorry they are treating ya'll this way.

I havent heard from John in a couple of days now....anyone know anything? Do I remember him saying something about putting the liquor into the camper and heading off to somewhere??

Nicole-

As I was reading your message about Jim, I was having "flash-backs" to caring for my mom. She had surgery on her spine for cancer and the nurses at the "care-less" re-hab center she went to following surgery did not properly treat her incision site and it started to infect after only 3 days!! I created quite an ugly scene with the head nurse and the director of the re-hab center and...voila! She started getting the care she needed. It makes me sick to think of people who have no family to watch over them and how some health care professionals ultimately ignore them.

You have to be on the ragged edge by now, Nicole. I wish there were some way I could help ease your burden. I will be praying for your whole family, and especially Jim. Thank you for keeping us posted.

There was footage on last night's news of a lovely home somewhere in Wisconsin that was swept away in a river. It was horrifying to watch someone's whole home and possessions disappear in 1 minute or less. Last year here in Lakeland, Fl, a very large lake disappeared due to a sink hole. No homes were lost, but they did show film footage of lake critters getting sucked into the sinkhole. It was awful.

I'm so glad that things were not so desperate for you & yours.

Nicole, hang in there girl. If they don't start taking better care of him let us all know. We'll carpool up and put some sores on their butts.

Lynn and George...glad to hear your home isn't damaged too badly from the flooding. That picture is really something...just terrible. Hope you are safe and that things improve for you.

Nicole...thoughts and prayers still headed up your way. We've had some similiar situations with my dad being paralyzed..and it's tough to keep on top of the sores. It really doesn't take to long for them to develop. They can be a nightmare. Will be thinking of you both on Thursday..as everday, praying that Jim will be returning home as soon as possible and your family reunited.

gone camping be back Wed. eve.

Nicole: we are thinking of you and praying for you, wish we could do more. I hope you have some close by support. Be sure to ask them for help when you need it.

Thanks guys. I didn't mean to sound so negative. I just reread my post. All though that was an accurate recap of the evening. I think the fact that we had a nurse we don't like added to it. She is nice enough, but she comes across as high and mighty to me. Like she knows more about Jim than I do because I don't have RN after my name. Except for the turning issue he really is getting good care. Better than the VA that's for sure. So we "enlightened" them and I hope it will be better. I also had to fight to have him taken off a heart pill. For a while after his first surgery his blood pressure was REALLY high, which is normal for quads when they have pain past their injury level. So they put him on a pill to control it. Well, he has calmed down now and they are still giving it to him. But he is acting all drunk and loopy. Which is fine on a weekend at a BBQ but not now.:) Last night his blood pressure was pretty low, and THE nurse was going to give it to him again, I wouldn't let her. So now it says on his report that I refused the pill for him. Whatever. His doc came in this morning and took him off it. Stupid nurse. One more thing for her not to like me about. He just called me and he has one of the nurses we really like today so all should be good. To be honest I think there are only 2 that we don't care for, so that isn't bad, and the docs are superb. Sorry to go on and on. I haven't talked to many people lately.:) Thanks again guys!!

Ami-I hope your DD is doing ok. It stinks when it is hot and you can't cool off. My DD sliced her foot last summer and had to stay out of the pool for a bit. You would have thought we were torturing her.

Jim-I hope your arm is healing.

Shannone-Hope you have luck with your bat situation.

Anyone else I missed I wish you good vibes...:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Rog this is common in health care, every year there are more and more responsibilities placed on the health care workers and fewer of them. It just comes down to the fact that hosptals have too many administrators trying to figure out why things arent getting done, so they lay off more actual workers and hire more administrators and the cycle repeats. If seabee wasnt there to advocate for her husband there is no telling what would happen (or wouldnt in their case)
