Yet another reason I do not support PETA

I give my support to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary which actively CARES FOR animals in needs. I really see no good from PETA...they and the Humane Society wanted the Vick dog euthanized. Best Friends fought against that thankfully.

Nothing they're doing endangers anyone's life. :confused3

How do I say this in a non provocative manner? Lets just say they would like a certain form of testing banned which would in turn, mean testing on humans, which would, in turn endanger human life either directly or indirectly through impeding the research and development of certain pharmacological agents.

And that testing is done through Happy Meals at McDonald's? I don't think so.

Please keep to the topic of the message you're replying to. Thanks.

I thought about becoming a vegetarian years ago. Then I saw these stark raving mad lunatic vegans and worried that it might be caused by a meat deficiency. I decided to play it safe and stuck with omnivorism.

As far as the McDonald's thing, are there really pieces of chicken in a McNugget? I tried one once and I'm not at all convinced that it contained any animal parts or even food for that matter.

I'm wondering if the campaign could backfire on Peta. I know that my kids, if given the choice, will always choose chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs over most vegetarian dishes and certainly over vegan dishes. If they have to chose between not harming animals and not getting any meat, cheese, or milk, those animals are in trouble.

I've been a vegetarian for 22 years... not a vegan. Not sure if I'd turn stark raving made if I gave up milk and eggs. :confused3

A lot of people believe that if children really knew and understood where their dinner came from, then these children (or more of them, anyway) would make meat-free choices. I know that this was my personal experience. As a child, I was shocked to find that we were eating animals for dinner but I was constantly told, "It's no big deal" and "That's what animals are for." I disagreed.

I have seen children smile widely and proclaim that they are eating a pig or a chicken or a cow, but if they saw what happened at the factory where the meat came from, they might not feel the same way.

I'm sure that is why PETA is targeting children with this campaign. It's not really about the fact that they are feeding animals to children - it's about the torture that the animals endure in the process of becoming food. The difference between the days of the family farm and the cows/chickens/pigs that lived a "normal" life before becoming food and today's factory farms are day and night. It's horrifying and PETA and others hope that by spreading awareness of this process, caring consumers will not give their dollars to these companies. McDonalds is just one of them.

I'm a proud member of PETA!!

I mean seriously, why would you not be a member of PEOPLE EATING TASTY ANIMALS?!?!?! :lmao:

Seriously though, there is a time and place for protests like this. Forcing your views on innocent children is just plain wrong. They way PETA is going about it is just plain wrong.

The only thing PETA hopes is that we will talk about them, give them money, and have NO impact on animals at all, ever, period. No pets, no shelters, nothing. It's unrealistic.

This isn't the first time PETA has done something like this. They are famous for handing out coloring books showing slaughter houses and such. Assaulting people who choose to wear fur/leather. And while protesting can be done in a peaceful and non-violent way, PETA will always choose the opposite.

:lmao: I love this! I love animals and hate animal cruelty, but I must admit that when those crazies at PETA try to tell me not to do something, it makes me want to run right out and do it, whatever it is. Maybe they secretly want people to eat meat - otherwise I don't know why they would intentionally do so many things to hurt their cause. Maybe it's all a big plot using reverse psychology! ;)

I do, however, know lots of reasonable veggies/vegans, so I don't think it's the lack of meat that turns the rabbid ones into lunatics. There must be something else that makes the militant ones and PETA people so crazy.

This is so true.
if anyone wants to see where their dinner comes from google
Meet your Meat video

anyway, my dh still eats beef and chicken, but I do only buy it for him from a local farm , a family farm where the animals are as happy as can be before being killed.
i am very against factory farms and cruelty to the animals raised for food.

I have noticed that most of the folks engaging in this dispute, in the media and online, fall into one of two categories:

  • Opposing cruelty to animals; or
  • Ridiculing people who oppose cruelty to animals
Perhaps it is all that meat that is making the anti-PETA people so antagonistic. :rotfl:

Well it's been pretty civil, I was afraid that it would turn into a ugly debate. Just wanted to let you know that I recieved a form email stating that they had recieved my email. Not expecting them to contact me further.

I usually will ignore but I did feel moved to let them know I thought they were scum.

And for the record I do not believe it's bad to be a vegetaritan or to protest the conditions of food animals, PETA (and some other organizations) use TACTICS that are unacceptable and they and the people who condone it are wrong in my opinion. Not the message just the delivery system.

In this case, I just don't like that they targeted children. Pretty much once a kid hits highschool I figure they start to make some life decisions of thier own and if PETA wants to pass out literature to highschoolers I'm okay with that but handing out things to elementary aged children is just wrong, and that PETA thinks that it is okay just makes them..well I won't put down what I think that makes them.

Another PETA debate?

If you know anything about the way PETA holds their protests, you would realize they are not allowed on private property - like McDonalds. They have to stand on the sidewalks - on public property. So they are not going in McDonalds and handing these to children. The parents would have to allow them to hand them one of these unhappy meals as they are leaving, which most of the time is in a car. So, that would mean the parents are pulling over and allowing PETA to give these to their children.

How do I know this? Because I have been a PETA for about 5 years now. While I have never protested McDonalds or handed out material to children. I do know how it works. And I know what is legal and what isnt. These places always call the cops on us, so we know what we can and cannot do. The only people who get handed anything are the ones who stop and want to know what is going on. And most of them are appalled when they find out what is happening behind closed doors at a lot of the large corporations.

PETA is all about shock tactics, and they have done some wonderful work. Call me crazy, a terrorist, whatever you will. It doesnt bother me at all, because I know who I am and what I stand for. I would never do anything illegal or harmful, but I am all about making the public more aware of what is going on at places like KFC and The Ringling Brother's Circus. PETA just released undercover video of the Ringling Circus beating their animals with bull hooks to make them do tricks. If they didnt do this, people would think these are all happy animals who like to jump through rings of fire and other ridiculous things that animals should not be doing.

So flame away, but I bet you if all these children knew what happened to these animals they are eating, they would want to become vegetarians, too.

No flame here. Just wanted to tell you that many children DO know. Many children see animals like chickens, deer and cows as food, not pets. In fact, many children hunt. Mine do... :thumbsup2

This is absolutely not true. I have only protested with PETA and they have only been peaceful and non-violent. Please get your facts straight before you make comments like that.

And that is fine for your family. But most children have not seen the horrors of factory farming and when they do, they do not want to eat meat anymore.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! That is freaking HILARIOUS!:rolleyes2

Everytime someone brings up PETA, somebody uses this tired, old line like they are the first to think of it. Guess what? You aren't. Everyone has heard it already and it's as stupid now as it was the first 1000 times.

All PETA members are not stark raving mad lunatics. Sure, there are some that are more zealous and passionate than others but I completely agree with the concept and goals of the organization.

Yes, we do want animals research put to an end. Even the person who found the cure for Polio says there is no need for animal research. Humans can give consent to be tested on and it would be much more accurate. And dont you think if animals had a say in it, they probably wouldnt want to be tested on? But I guess it is okay to do it, because they cant tell us so?
