DH came home the other day with a lottery ticket for the Mega Millions (210 million!!!) Anyway, he asked me what I would do if we ever won. He said the 1st thing he would do is pay off our mortgage.

I told him the first thing I would do is buy enough points at OKW so that we could live there all year long! :D He said it wasn't practical - that buying a condo in the area would be a much better investment. Oh brother!

I said "you asked me what I would do with the money - I told you - who cares about practical if you won that much!!!"

Anyone else out there that would be as "unpractical as me"! :teeth:

That is too funny - While at a cookout yesterday at my brothers house we had discussions along those very lines as well. I bought tickets from MA for the "mega-millions" last week when it was 177 million and again yesterday for the now 210 million jackpot. We all agreed POINTS was what we all wanted if any of us were to win. We figured 5000 would be enough to start... We discussed mortgages but realized they could be paid of fat any time after the fact and in reality we would end up moving anyway to a bigger, fancier place; with 200 million who needs to be practical!!!

both - pay off the mortgage (probably on a bigger place) and buy more points......but you would also need to budget for the annual fees each year - anyone thinking about taking out an annuity to pay off those fees each year????

but in answer to your question - yes do both hey with 22 million you would definitely have the money....

DH and I had this same discussion just a few days ago.

He mentioned something about what he would do with his free time and I said "Fine, the kids and I will be living at WDW"!:D

Before I bought more points, I would pay for both of my kids' college tuition. Isn't that what it costs now to send your kid to college, 210 million? LOL. Then maybe I'd have enough left to buy some points. Ah, we can dream, can't we?

More DVC points, of course, that's a no brainer, but I think I recall reading that there was a maximum point limit of something like 2000 per resort and 5000 total. Even if each spouse bought their own, how many points would it cost to stay at each resort for a full year? Imagine the dues on that amount of points, whatever!

a lady not too far from us, won $10million, a month ago...

They arrived home from picking up their *cheque* and could not get near their own home for the cars and the people...they kept on driving, and a week ago, she suffered a heart attack from the stress of it all....

So yep, we'd be buying points...and leaving that same day:)

:sunny:

Edited to add:
leaving today, June 28, checking in to OKW 2 bdr for 269 nights, checking out Friday, March 25 would cost
9946 points!!!

Have to check out on Friday, because, aarrggh, fri night would put us over 10,000points....

;) ;)
Love Caskbill's planner!!

We too had this discussion just yesterday!

We decided that the first order of business would be to book many cabins on a DCL and invite our friends and relatives to a land and sea vacation! It would probably be to late for this summer, but we would need more points to be able to rent GV's!

Oh good grief, with that kind of money I'd buy and pay off several luxury homes in several different parts of the world, and also take a couple of months worth of points at DVC.

Sounds like a plan to me!

DH is always saying that if we won the lottery, he'd want to do the Richard Petty Experience at WDW every day! That's been his reaction since he got to do it last month. So I'm sure he'd actually encourage me to buy more points since we'd have to have someplace to stay while he was doing the race car thing.

My first cut would be for my Church (dh and I always say this - hoping it would give us some divine intervention..........LOL) Then I'd buy a place on the Florida coast and then I would buy more DVC points to "get away" from my getaway!

Of course, helping out family would be a given.

Don't stop there.

What was Comcast's offer for the whole she-bang?

At most you end up with 1/3 of the annuity value in cash (after the present value discount and federal income taxes), less if you have state and local income taxes to consider.

First would be $7,000,000 in a conservative portfolio for retirement, which would probably commence pretty quickly.

After that, The Timeshare Store
