Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Dave--- Gosh you will weigh less than me. I just want to smack you upside the head. :rotfl2: So watch out when we met at the ToT.

Nancy

But my heart is heavy with caring for my wonderful WISH friends and we are all on the adventure together. How about a huge hug instead of a smack or at least after the smack.

DAve:hippie:

Ok, first the smack and then the hug.

I have now completed day 3 of WW and so far have stayed within my points. I really only exercise so that I can have those extra points to eat. I would be starving without them.

Nancy

WWDave - I just wanted to say I am in New York. Not the city, but about 40 minutes north of Manhattan.

And I was getting excited thinking Judy was in NC like me.

I've had a pretty good week. I am keeping up with my 31-runs-in-31-days challenge and I've started using Hal Higdon's "Novice 2" training schedule to determine the length of my walks. I'm still not as fast as I'll need to be, but right now I'm focusing on distance -- particualrly my distance from the kitchen. My physical is tomorrow and I'll also do my weekly weigh-in then and report.

So glad to be with y'all here!

WWDave - I just wanted to say I am in New York. Not the city, but about 40 minutes north of Manhattan. You actually don't see too many people in running shoes around here. Women go to the market in Maholo's.

See what happens when a guy is talking to several beautiful women at one time, we get flusterd and confused.

Ok Nancy it's a deal, smack then hug.

Well I weighed 176.8 this morning that's a pound for 2 days so at that rate I'll reach my goal by the ToT easily.

I had cherieos with bananas and skim milk for breakfast then after my 4 mile walk I made a can of veggie soup with extra fresh veggies and of course my can of drained tuna for protien. My late lunch will be a veggie subway or a Wendy's salad and plain baked potato. Then when I get home from work either nothing or if I'm starving a low fat healthy choice dinner.

Have a great day guys.

Dave:hippie:

I was down to 176 even this morning, 1.8 lbs and 16 to go. My body fat was down also from 14.5 to 14.1. The body fat was a surprize because before I stopped weighing myself I weighed 172 and was 12%.

You have to be ready to lose weight just like you do to stop smoking. I think I'm ready this time. It has been easy so far. No daily ice cream and no cups of nuts in the evenings.

How is everyone doing?

Dave:hippie:

You know, it's a good thing WISH exists...

I realized today that I've run 20+ miles consistently for 5 straight weeks. Yay me, right?! I know I've said my DH and I have been careful about eating and I lost roughly 15 pounds over April-June. I still have another 20 I'd love to lose, but I'd settle for 10-15. And by settle, I mean jump up and down with delight! ;)

In the last five weeks with a grand total of 120 miles run-- weight loss is, you guessed it, ZERO! :headache: And I haven't really cheated- maybe I've had too many crackers & cheese or something, but no pizza, no blizzards, etc. I've stayed on the same diet that helped us lose weight in the first place, but hello, plateau!

So you know what the little devil on my shoulder was saying to me on the treadmill this morning... "could have stayed at the same weight without running over and over and over... could have probably squeezed in a blizzard too...yum."

Anyway, thank goodness I have the marathon as a goal so I have a reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other. If I told any of my non-runner friends (that would be all of my friends:rotfl: ), they'd totally laugh at me. I know WISHers can relate!:rolleyes1

Jen in GA--- I know exactly what you are saying. It is so frustrating.

I'm hoping with writing everything down again that I can get a better grip on what I am eating. I don't think I can exercise much more than I already do as I am also walking over 20 miles a week and doing classes. Plus I am switching it around a little to change the routine which is suppose to help. Don't you just love those magazines headlines that always say how to lose 10 pounds in a couple of weeks and you read the article and it is everything you are already doing.

I have completed day 4 of WW. After the initial water weight loss of 5 pounds no additional loss, but just better with that water off. The big test will be eating out tonight, but have all my flex points left. But then with my LW on Sat should burn off those excess calories.

Good job Dave on your weight loss. I actually think stop smoking is easier than losing weight. But it has been 25 years since I last smoked.

Nancy

Jen -- Good that you recognize that little voice as a "devil" and not "the voice of reason". I sometimes tell myself I "deserve" to eat something because others around me are having it, or I've had a bad day, or I've walked as my schedule dictates. Bollocks! I deserve to be healthy and see my children grow to adulthood; not to be shoving killer food down my throat. Keep reminding me!

Dave -- OK, I'm lining up to slap you now! 2 pounds overnight!!! And I've seen those race photos of you -- you already look buff. Obviously I'm not doing something right. (All of this is just kidding, of course! Sincerely, congrats! )

Nancy -- Hey, the way I look at it is: weight is weight. Like you, I lost water this week, but it's gone and I'm glad.

OK, good news/bad news at the doc's. Blood pressure was great so my meds are still working. Weight was down a bit (thanks to you guys!). (She felt compelled to fuss, though.) I had to get a tetenus booster (OUCH!). Blood work was postponed a week, so I have one more week to let healthy eating and exercise work on my cholesterol and blood sugar. And the best news -- 4 pounds gone this week! All water, of course, as early big losses are, but it's still gone and I won't be lugging it around Disney World in a month or so. :woohoo:

Wendy thanks for the compliment, but I lost 1 lb over 2 days or a half a pound per day. I jsut started eating like a human again instead of a starved shark.

Super news about the blood pressure and the weight. And yes about every pound lost is one we don't have to lug for 26.2 miles.

Dave:hippie:

I normally don't condone weighing everyday but I am right now while I'm fine tuning how much I need to eat. It's a thin line between making sure you have enough fuel for exercising and not feeling dead all day after and still dropping some pounds.

I weighed 176 again today although the body fat index was down a tad. I ate pretty good but looks like just enough to maintain current weight so I need to back off a tad more.

Yesterdays food:

Cherrieos with bananas and skim milk.

Campbells veggie soup with a can of drained tuna added.

Foot long Subway sub with veggies and turkey breast.

One tuna sandwish before bed.

Lots of water.

Today I'm going to eat a Wendy's Mandarin Chicken salad with french dressing and a plain baked potato for dinner instead of the subway. Next time I get the sub I'll get a toasted veggie without the turkey.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Dave:hippie:

Ok where the heck is everyone? Did I run everyone off?

I have one of those scales that measures body fat percentage and weight. I don't know how accurate they are but a downward trend is good. It gives you a baseline and shows progress even if it's not accurate.

Tally for the week was 2.4 lbs lost and BF dropped from 14.5 to 12.9%. Looks like I have my quantity just about right since I'm burning fat.

Yesterday I had to eat:

Big bowl of cherrieo's with banana and skim milk, coffee, vitiamin

Bowl of Campbells veggie soup with a can of drained tuna added.

Dinner at the China place in the mall: steamed rice, steamed veggies and grilled chicken.

Tuna sandwish.

My meals are spaced 4 to 5 hours apart.

I think it's important to get some walking in everyday to keep the fire burning.

How is everyone else doing?

Dave:hippie:

Hey Dave, Are you sick of Tuna, yet?? There are lots of other fish in the sea -- so-to-speak, you could change up now and then!!!

I am really working to get rid of the white food in my world. It makes a huge difference how I feel. I am down a pound and that is good. I just think it is a real shame that we don't each come with an instruction manual! It would be so much easier than this experimentation stuff!!! :sad2:

Hi Steff, it seems like I should bleed tuna don't it. But actually I use it the way someone would use protien powder. I add a small drained can to soup to add natural protien and it takes on the taste of what ever you put it in so no fishy taste. I'm having tuna sandwishes because Erica made a big bowl of tuna with onion celery and low fat mayo. She works 12 hr shifts at the hosp from thurs night till sunday morning so the tuna on whole grain bread makes a wonderful quick meal. When we are off I eat otherstuff. Like blackened catfish at Red Lobster and Grilled veggies over pasta at Montana Grill. We eat out most of the time. Tonight will be Mexican, chicken fajtias and those horrible/wonderful chips and salsa.

As a former South Georgia girl myself I have to ask where you are from? :) I lived in Bainbridge and Valdosta growing up and have been here only 7 years! :) I miss my sweet tea!

I am so happy to have stumbled on this thread! I'm week 8 into my weight loss plan and have started training for my first 5k. I used to run long ago (and many pounds ago :teeth: ) so it's nice to see others combining running with weight loss! :)

Welcome kayeandjim00! I've all but given up ever seeing Onederland again, much less residing there. Congratulations on that!

Dave you're doing great at leading by example!

Steffwalks -- that giving up white stuff is quite an accomplishment! I gave up sweet tea long ago, but it's hard to fight the convenience of all the white foods in restaurants and grocery stores -- white breads, white sugar, etc.

Yesterday I walked 6 miles and today I walked 10 -- first experiemental back-to-back "long" (very short "long") mileage with Goofy in mind. Tomorrow I'm taking the kids to nearby Williamsburg (about a 4-hour drive) for 2 nights/3 days at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA before they head back to school. The highlight of the trip for my teens is a visit to the Williamsburg Outlets to spend their summer income. I'm a little worried about how I'll get in my 3-mile daily walk (with my 8-yr-old in tow; no I think not), but I'm hoping the hotel has a treadmill -- they claim to have a fitness room. Maybe I can get up very early and walk before we hit the parks. I dare not leave them alone in the parks and walk for that long. I'd be terrified.

I think I did okay with my food as well today. Again, healthy eating in the parks may be a challenge but Busch Gardens does typically have a pretty good selection of fruits and salads and one place even used to serve some fabulous grilled salmon. See you all again in a few days.

Welcome kayeandjim00 :cheer2:

Wendy--- Look at all those calories you burnt up with doing back to back LW.
What a great way to end the summer with a trip to Williamsburg and doing Busch Garden and Water Country. DH and I were just talking this weekend about going down their for a weekend in Sept, except we will be going Colonial Williamsburg and the Storytelling Festival. It is only a 4 hr drive for us also, but we have to drive around the DC area which is the pits.

Steffwalks--- Good job on your 1 pound weight loss, every pound counts. I love breads and they are hard for me to cut back on.

Dave-- You don't eat enough food volume for me. I have to had huge salads each day to help fill me up.

I have been good for most of the week, but went to Hersheypark today and didn't eat very healthy and certainly didn't get my water in. But I still had flex points left so I don't think I did as much damage as I could have. I probably wait until Tues to weigh myself since I will have fluid retention from all the large bag of popcorn I consumed.

Nancy the problem I have with lots of volume is that it stretches my stomach and I require more and more food before I feel full. If I bite the bullet for a week or so and eat small dense meals instead of lots of salad and popcorn which I love, my stomach shrinks and my smaller meals begin to make me feel full.

I can eat 2 large bags of microwave popcorn a one sitting with no problem, but then I'm still hungry.

Hi Everyone!

I haven't been run off -- I've been running everywhere trying to get ready for our trip. We leave for Orlando on Wednesday, and we hit the World Saturday - Wednesday, then on to Universal until Sept. 4th.

I look forward to really applying myself when I return, getting totally into my training and good nutrition, and learning everything I can from all your fabulous experience!

Keep going and getting healthier, and I will see you in September!

Maria, welcome back we missed you.

I took a rest day yesterday and still ate three meals NO SNACKING!

Bowl of cherieeo's with banana and skim milk

Veggie omlet with no cheese at Bob Evans' with home fries and sour dough toast

Garlic Shrimp from Chinese take out place with white rice for dinner.

I weighed 173.6 this morning. I was very pleased with that. down 4.2 lbs from last week. 13.6 lbs to go!!!

Have an awesome day guys,

Dave:hippie:

Wendy- I went to school in Richmond- we used to drive over to the Williamsburg Outlets every now and then-- fun place! Busch Gardens will be great too. I get the same way worrying about how I'm going to fit my exercise routine into trips, but remember you'll be doing a ton of walking in the parks! Congrats on the 6/10 days- very impressive.:cool1:

Dave- way to go with the lost pounds. I actually have gone the opposite route. I've decided that since I start Goofy training soon, I'm going to stop beating myself up now (plenty of time for that later). So I'm not getting on the scale for a week and I'm just going to maintain my base instead of adding extra miles on my LR. Hopefully I'll be able to start my Goofy plan feeling restored. (Oh, and I don't really have a Goofy plan, I'm waiting for someone to post one!:lmao: )

Hope everyone has a good day!
