Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Hey everybody,

Dave, great job on the weight loss! I just couldn't do all that tuna!!

I am trying really hard to give up the white stuff. I can't say that I am completely successful perhaps only moderately successful!! :upsidedow My brother was in a coma 10 years ago for over two weeks, at the age of 41 with adult onset diabetes. I sure don't want to join him, there. I love my white food, but I think of daily injections of insulin, the heart desease that often goes with it and it motivates me to avoid the White food danger!

Everybody, you are doing a great job. One of the things that Kathy and I learned was that you can't change overnight, but every small change makes a difference! :woohoo:

Here's to your health! Connie

I'm not having tuna today. Today my big meal will be blackened catfish, plain baked potato and steamed veggies, salad no crotons and extra tomato, large water. My regular Red Lobster Monday lunch. Then maybe I'll take my lady to a movie if she is feeling up to it. She is still in bed as I write this, it's 10:30 so we are basicly going on 25 hrs of sleep with only a wake up to eat some shrimp fried rice.

I'm so glad you and Kathy joined us, your positive attitude is golden.

Ga Jen, when we figure out our goofy plan I'll post it. I let Erica do it because we are going at her pace. I'm from a macho warrior, I can do anything, background so I need her to keep things realistic. A lot of times we will just chug along till she has had enough.

Now into week 2 of Weight Watchers. Only lost the 5 pounds which I losted initially the first couple of days. Other than Sunday I had been good the rest of the week and this week is off to a good start.

Dave--- In the WW world popcorn is such a good snack. Well the low fat microwave kind not the type you get at the movies. I eat an entire bag it is only 3 point and fills me up. I have a salad everyday at lunch while at work along with some sort of protein usually grilled chicken. So you have tuna I have grilled chicken. Even the cashier knows what my meal will cost as I get the same thing all the time.

I did 4 miles TM and Pilates class last night. Tonight is pump class and will do another 4 miles on TM. It has been raining hard here for 3 days and very cool that you need a sweatshirt. We go from hot and dry conditions to cold and wet.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

DAVE- I am truly impressed with all the fish you eat! I don't like fish well enough to even manage the twice a week recommended!

Nancy- great job on the 5 lbs. That is an excellent start! Just think if all you lose is 1 lb a week for the next year you will have lost 57lbs this time next year! That's something to be really pleased with!

I did three miles of hill work this morning. Didn't start out to do it, but it was fun and interesting!

Ok today was blackened catfish, plain baked potato and salad. That was going to be yesterday's lunch/dinner but Erica didn't feel like going out so I made soup.

I have been drinking water like crazy this week, I'm sure I need it, I'm training in this aweful heat so I'm probably just staying even.

Nancy I love the hills. One of these days I need to take the camera with me and then you guys will know how "YARC" I really am. I find the steepest longest hills I can find and build a route that includes them.

kayeandjim00 - WELCOME!!!

Wow! I am impressed with all the weight loss going on here. Dave, Judy, Nancy, Wendy, and others - GREAT JOB!!! As Connie says....even the small changes can make a big difference. Keep up the good work! :cool1:

I don't have much to report but I think I've lost 1 pound. It's a start. Only 29 more to go by January. :rolleyes1 :)

I've "officially" started my training for the full. I'm actually starting a week early to coincide with my runs in San Francisco in October and the ToT a week later. I'm not at the weight I would like to be but I'm hoping the training will help me lose some like it did when I trained for the half last Jan.

Tomorrow, school starts back up for me. I teach at a local university. I'm teaching four different sections of a particular course and we are using new software and books for this class. The software, we discovered recently, is full of glitches and the books are on backorder. I must say, the semester is not starting out very well. :scared:  As a foodaholic, I might be tempted to jump in the car tomorrow and drown my sorrows at the nearest McDonalds. However, I'm going to try to stay tough and lean on my fellow WISHers for support. If you have any to spare, please send good thoughts my way. :teeth:

Susie, Darlin, you are one of my heroes. It takes a lot of courage to stand up there in that classroom and take responsibility for the education of the next generation. What you and your peers around the world do will have a lot to do with what that next generation will be like.

In the mornings when you are getting ready to train or to go to work, look at that fine strong woman in the mirror, tell her "I won't let you down today". Mentally plant your feet, draw your sword and swear to that person looking back at you from the mirror that you will be strong and win your battles with temptation.

Good luck with the weight loss, you can do that, really you know you can.

Hey everyone-

I was whining about not losing any weight, but then after pledging to avoid the scale, I hopped back on it and discovered I'd lost about 2 pounds. It may just be water or whatever, but I don't care, because I actually saw a lower number for the first time in forever. :thumbsup2

But here's what I really wanted to tell you-- I walk into the kitchen yesterday and DH is making tuna and I almost blurt out- "hey, that's just like Dave!" but I quickly recovered because I'm not so sure DH really gets WISH yet and it was just too much to explain. Made me laugh though. :rotfl2:

Incidentally, DH used low sodium albacore tuna and mixed it with grapeseed mayo (or something like that), dried parsley, pepper, some spicy mustard, and lots of sesame seeds. It was really tasty.

Day 2 of Week 2 of WW. Yesterday actually went really well, I had a taco salad for lunch and asked them not to give me the taco bowl. I know if I got it I would eat the entire thing. Dinner was a buffalo burger and salad. Crativebeth had gotten me a WW Cookbook for Christmas last year and the buffalo burger is one of the receipes. I need to start to do more of those WW meals. They usually are so good and filling.

Dave---It was nice you gave me credit for the hills, but that was Connie. You have so many women to keep track of, I can see where you get us confused.

Connie--- Good luck on avoiding the white foods. What I love about WW is I can work those into my points each day.

Susie---Good job on losing 1 pound. Every pound counts. Sending pixie dust and good thoughts your way.

JeninGA--- Great news that you lost 2 pounds. That might just be the motivation you need to keep you going.

Have a great day everyone and eat healthy.

Ok I'm confused, who is Connie? I feel like a dumb bunny here. Is Steffwalks Connie?

I did a crosstrain/maint day today:

One mile to warm up, then 30 min of calistetics followed by major stretching. Then some active release therapy on my calves and achillies. Capped it off with a swim.

After I got home I used my rolling pin all over my legs and now have my achillies, I worked on, icing. It hasn't been a problem but I wanted to start working on it because it would get to be a concern when I get into the high miles for Goofy training.

Tomorrow I'll be back on the road training but I needed a break from the heat today and my legs needed the work.

My weight has become stationary even with eating better because I'm drinking lots and lots of water because of the heat.

Have a great everyone.

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry to have been away so long. Life has really gotten busy for me lately. I'm happy to see so many new people posting here.

I managed to lose the 3 lbs I gained on vacation. Any loss is good, but it's not nearly as rewarding when it's weight I've previously lost.

I haven't been very good about logging my food. I find when I'm so busy, I just don't want to take the time to write it all down. It's really just an excuse, I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a total of 5 minutes out of my day, but some days it feels like I don't have 5 minutes to spare.

I have 2 weeks left until my 10 yr wedding anniversary, and I've not given up hope yet to be back to my wedding weight. I have 4.5 lbs to go, so it's not impossible, but I'm going to have to be very diligent and I'm not sure I have the energy for that.

Maria: So sorry to hear about your DH’s uncle. It sounds like your vacation is still on, so have a great time.

Nancy: Good luck with losing 10 lbs by October. You sound as if you know how to do it, it’s just a matter of sticking with it. We’re here for support. I plan to be better about visiting this thread. I know what you mean about exercising to get the activity points. I love days that I go for a 10 mile run. I feel like I can actually eat a reasonable amount on those days. It’s the other rest days that I find so hard. Good job on making it to week 2. I just bought a new WW quick meals cookbook. I was so excited to get it, but I haven’t found the time to look at it yet.

Susie: I understand how frustrating it is to lose and gain the same few pounds over and over. Good luck keeping them off this time. Best Wishes that your classes go well today.

Dave: Lots of luck in losing those 17 lbs. I’m sure it will make a big difference in how you feel over the course of a marathon. I spend a good part of my day lugging my two 30 lb children around. It amazes me how quickly I get tired from that. It seems that once I’ve lost that much weight from my body I shouldn’t be tired at all anymore. We’ll see. Great going on the weight loss so far.

Judy: Congrats for getting to a new century. Best wishes that you’ll never go back to the old one again.

Minnie: Thanks for the recipes. It’s always nice to get a few new ideas. How do you like the chocolate soy milk? I’ve always been afraid to try it.

Jen: Don’t forget that your weight isn’t the only measure of your health. Those 120 miles you’ve put in have gone a long way to making you a healthier person. Congrats on losing 2 more lbs.

Wendy: Congratulations on the good BP news and the 4 lb wt loss. Even if it’s just water it’s going to make your clothes fit better. Good luck with getting your training in while on vacation. It’s always a bit of a challenge.

Steffwalks: Welcome.

Kayandjim00: Welcome. Best wishes for your training and weight loss.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Dave--- Yes Steffwalks is Connie. We will have to make a list so you can keep all us women straight. When I drink all that water, I spend more time in the BR than any other room in the house. :rotfl2:

Cindy--- At least you were able to lose those 3 pounds that you found on vacation. Rest days are the worse with points, I get so used to having the extra from exercise that cutting back on my food is hard. Those points from a LW are so great and I do try to not eat them all. I love my WW cookpoint and I made a binder with the receipes you get from the WW emails. My family loves the WW meals even my 23 year old son. I guess it is the variety of ways you can prepare chicken and turkey and make it taste so different. The only down side is the prep time for some of the meals. I know have all the different spices that you need, for awhile I was buying the spice of the week. Hope you enjoy the cookbook.

Nancy

Dave, yes, I am a confusing person, I am Connie. Neither one of us, me or Steff likes fish all that well. And I really, really try! Besides, my kitties go nuts when I open a can of tuna and it's hardly worth the effort and have to put up both of them, too!

I loved doing the hills. I hadn't planned on it when I started. I usually moan and groan :scared: when I have to even look at them. But I did them several times. It's actually a gulley or draw, and so it is down and up and turn around and down and up. I always have to do a down, first, so I try to maintain the same pace up. I am going to look for some longer hills, now.

Ditching the white food is going really well for me. I am actually using the DASH diet, for the most part. DASH stands for Deitary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. I started using it because I put my husband on it because he has high blood pressure and it's just easier me to do what I am making him do and then he doesn't know he's doing it! :goodvibes Anyway, it will lower blood pressure as much as 20 points in the first two weeks! It allows white food, unless you are diabetic or pre-diabetic or have syndrome X, and I have noticed that since I have been avoiding white foods, my belly is shrinking. I love that. And I have now lost another pound this week. It's a really good balanced diet approach and is easy to follow. It doesn't have pages and pages of "forbidden" foods, it just recommends portions. I think WW is similar in many ways.

Anyway, I had a rest day, but I am cross training with household chores, and some archery practice!

Here's to your health! - Connie :flower3:

I haven't posted here yet, but can I jump in? Weight loss has taken a backseat for me since I started marathon training, but I have seemed to find 10 pounds in the process!:confused3

I had lost 70 pounds with a low carb diet over a two year peroid of time, but I have increased my carbs somewhat since I am running so much. If I would stick to the healthy carbs I would be fine, but I haven't done that! I have now tried to stick to a lower carb count, but not as low as it was. I try to avoid sugar, flour, rice, and potatoes overall. It's hard to avoid all the bad carbs.....but I am trying! I am down 2 over the past 10 days, something is better than nothing!

I would like to lose 10 pounds by October (just like PaDisneyFan!) and then I will be happy.

Beth

Well there are worse things for a guy than having so many pretty ladies to talk to that he can't keep up with them.

Beth yes please join us.

Connie I have wild kittens, Erica went to the Shelter and now we are infested with them. We have them sprayed and nurtured and Erica is planning to have their front claws removed. Which I think is an excellent idea. I was getting dressed in my running shorts this morning when one lauched it's self off the couch and landed on my nylon clad ****, then it just hung there with it's seeming 4" talons imbeded in my cheeks.

Ouch, that sound painful. Of course it could have been your front end which would have been worse.

Beth good job on losing the 2 pounds.

Only XT yesterday with a Walk Away the Pounds video, so couldn't add many extra exercise points. However, I did stay within my points. I got on the scale today and somehow I found a pound of the 5 that I lost, what is that about. Since I think alot of those 5 were water weight, maybe this is now my true weight. Anyway, I will continue on.

Nancy

Nancy: I hate that. When you behave and follow your points, the scale is NOT to go up. It is so defeating! I have avoided weighing other than once a week because of that. But good job on the four anyway!

I did well yesterday with eating, though we did have steaks for dinner. I used that marinade that Nancy suggested (A1) and they were great! Thanks for the recommendation Nancy!

Beth

Well I didn't do very well at all last night, it was Erica's fault. I send her little notes on the phone messages. We got new kittens so a little cute joke with us is to send a message "meow" to each other when we just have a quick minute between patients. Well I sent her "meow" yesterday and she replied, "kitten need Cherries Garcia". Well that sounded so darn good.

Hope everyone is doing beter than me this week, these over a 100 degrees days, day after day are getting to me. I need to get focused again.

Dave:hippie:

 Sometimes, Cherries Garcia is the only thing that will do!!! And when that happens, enjoy every single spoonful! Living the good life, includes eating the "bad" stuff now and then! Man cannot live on Tuna, alone!!! :lmao:

I did intervals this morning!!! What kind of insane person does intervals???? By themselves??? Without a coach making the do it????? :scared1:

My eating is great, but I have to add more veggies in today. I didn't eat very many, as in just 1 serving, yesterday!! Wow, I coulda had a V8! :woohoo:

Dave, my kitties were both rescued. One from a neglectful neighbor and one from a restroom. They are both spayed and lovely! They still have their claws, but they keep them to themselves!! I have to say, though, that tuna sure gets 'em going!!! But open a can of Special Kitty with tuna and they YAWN!!!! :rotfl:

Nancy - Weight fluctuates from day-to-day and even from hour-to-hour!! Look for a downward trend and not just a specific number. Remember, if you are doing it right, you are burning fat and building muscle. Weight doesn't reflect that and it is a significant point! There are more ways to measure progress than with just a scale, you can use your clothing as a guideline, a tape measure, or the way you turn heads walking in the mall! (My very favorite method!!! :cloud9: ) You are doing great!

Connie, your a big darn help, you coulda sided with me against the evil Erica making me weak with temptation. It was all her fault, I would have come home and just had a healthy choice frozen dinner, but no it had to be a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cherries Garcia, it was the low fat version though.

Our Kittens are from the shelter.
