Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Total drive-by! Today I am down 2.4! I don't know that I will make it to my Lose Five Pounds By The End of The Week goal but I'm giving it my best shot! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,

Judy: Nice going. A 5 lb week would go a long way in keeping you motivated. Good luck. And anyone who skips pizza deserves some special reward.

Cam: While you're right you can't get complacent about what you've already lost, be sure not to diminish it. 70 lbs is an amazing achievement!! Good luck with your new wt loss goal.

Wendy: Welcome to this thread. I have found it so very helpful. I feel as if I'll disappoint the team if I don't keep up with my healthy eating goals. Good luck with your weight loss goals. The thought of carrying around all those extra lbs while training for the marathon was a major incentive to me to lose some wt. 22 down, 13 to go for me.

Minnie: Good job eating on plan. Have you tried soy nuts? I don't know if they're on your plan, but they can satisfy the salty/crunchy cravings.

Maria: Good job doing the crunches and push ups. I keep forgetting to do them. I should try to do them first thing in the morning so I don't forget. Keep up the good work.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Thanks, Cindy!

Well, I had another great day yesterday until DH revealed my birthday cake last night. :cake: Since I ate pretty light during the day and for dinner, I think I only used 2 of my flexpoints.

So, here I am heading into another potentially difficult weekend. We'll be eating out tomorrow night at a deli, Saturday morning at a coffee shop, lunch at a pizza place, not sure about dinner; PBJ on a bagel before the 1/2 marathon, then lunch and dinner out on Sunday, too. Not sure I can burn enough calories even in a half marathon to make up for the calories I am likely to eat. I'll try to be pretty good, but when in Chicago, you HAVE to try some of the local fare, right?

Cam -- Best of luck in Chi-town -- with your food plan and your half! When SWA offered $66 flights to Chicago, I was so ready to go, then DH pointed out there would also be the hotel expenses, dining out, race fee, etc. etc. -- and I'd better be socking away some money for Disney! I am WISH-green with envy, though. Have a blast!

Judy -- A 5-lb loss week is definitely in your future. We're just waiting for the announcement! :thumbsup2

Cindy -- Thanks for the welcome! I'll try to do you all proud!

Wendy you already do us all proud.

Erica and I don't like to fly so we drive all our trips. It takes longer but the stress is not worth it. We flew many long long overseas flights and had plenty thank you.

Have an awesome day guys.

Hey guys, I'm down 3.6 pounds since Monday! I don't know that I will make my Five Pounds This Week Goal but I'm not giving up yet. :thumbsup2

Let's not think about the 45 I still have to go after this five. I think taking it five a time works better for me. ;)

Hi Everyone!

I did my walking to a George Michael dvd last night -- I don't recommend it, it was really awful for keeping me peppy. Turns out all the bouncy stuff was during the Wham! days. Anyway, I did my walking, and I am still feeling good about it. I find I am really comfortable at 3.5 mph, which means I need to get a bit faster to beat the sweepers. It's good to have a goal to work for that I think I can attain.

Now for the big bummer -- DH has an uncle who is terminal, and it may be getting near the end. As if that isn't awful enough, it's starting to look like it might happen during our vacation. We are going to get a better feel for the situation tomorrow, but if that is the case we will have to cancel our trip. I totally get it and I wouldn't have it any other way, but there is a part of me that is going to be very disappointed. We do one big trip a year, and this was it. I know we will be able to reschedule something, probably for February vacation, but I feel like I really need this break now. Of course we will do what we need to, and I guess on the bright side if we do cancel I won't be eating vacation food for two weeks, and I will be able to continue training without a gap...and I could be alot smaller for my next vacation, so there are some positives if I look hard enough.

My eating is steadily improving. I was 200 calories over yesterday, which is a big improvement. Today I'm striving to actually stay within my range. I had 2 too many 100 calories snacks. Those can sneak up on you! I have to write down everything, or I just plain forget!

Dave -- I don't blame you, but I do love to fly, probably because I don't do it that often, so it's a treat. :dumbo:

Wendy -- If I didn't say it before, :welcome: before. It's great to have you here!

Cam -- party: :bday: party:

Cindy -- You are always so cheerful! Thanks for being a positive force for good! :goodvibes

Judy -- Good job with the resistance. It is not futile! You are doing great! :thumbsup2 5lbs. at a time is a great idea. I can't face the full amount I need to lose, so you have inspired me. I think of 5 lbs. as manageable, so that's my new goal!

Minnie -- I also have the snacks issue! Lately I've been packing snack size ziplock bags with carrots, sugar snap peas, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. Then I just grab one when I get hungry. Hopefully this will pay off! :cutie:

Everyone have a great day!
Maria

I decided that I need to lose at least 10 pounds. 5 years ago I lost 70 pounds with WW and I have kept most of it off. However, in the past year I have gained back over 10 pounds and want to at least get that off. Even as recently as May I lost 8 pounds prior to my vacation at WDW, but then gained it all back. My clothes are much tighter. I have just found it harder to lose the weight with all the training I have been doing. I know that I need to eat less. So starting today, I am going back to counting points. So I hope with your support I can get these 10 off at least before I go on vacation in Oct.

Nancy

Hi everyone!

I'm so glad to see this thread again. I've been trying to lose for quite sometime and I just couldn't quite get started. I've been losing and gaining the same 4 pounds for quite a while and it's not making much of a dent in the 30 pounds I wanted to lose by Jan. So, now I'm trying to get serious again and for some reason, something clicked this weekend. I don't know what but I actually have a drive now to lose that I didn't feel before. Oh, I wanted to lose but I kept sabatoging my diet by eating out a lot and/or eating the wrong stuff. Maybe I can finally get something rolling on this weight loss and feel better about posting here.

Maria - I'm so sorry about your DH's uncle. I know what you mean about missing the vacation. Of course your uncle comes first and foremost but it's still disappointing none the less. Also, good idea with the snack packs! I'm going to do that this week.

Nancy - Congrats for keeping the weight off. I think it's harder to do that than it is to lose. There's plenty of time between now and Oct. for you to loe that 10 pounds. Good luck!

Judy - Woohoo! :cool1: You are on your way to success! 3.6 pounds! Wow!

Wendy - You can do it!!! I don't want to go to Disney in Jan with all this extra weight either! As for losing, sometimes it's easier to make some small changes at first and go from there.

Cam - 10 pounds by Sept 30 - you can do it! I, too, love your ticker! I think it's good to set short goals within the long term goal. :thumbsup2

Minnie - hope all is going well for you with the new plan. I, too, tend to eat too many nuts. One thing my friend does is pre-measure the nuts in a baggie that she's allowed to eat in one day. After she eats those, no more for that day. As for soy nuts - also a good idea!

Hi, everyone!
I am totally swamped at work today, but wanted to thank you all for the inspiring posts and your positive outlooks!
I was SOOOOOO self-indulgent in Chicago (nice way to put it, huh? ;) ), but we walked absolutely everywhere we could (even when I was wearing dress shoes Friday night and we walked from navy pier to our hotel -- ouch). We only took a cab twice and actually walked around downtown when we might have napped.

I didn't step on the scale today since I am still so bloated from all the sodium I was pouring into my system (a la powerade) for the race and just from the heat. I'll weigh tomorrow and now my quest is to focus on weight loss instead of intense training for a while. I want to maintain a certain level of fitness for the ToT 13k, but feel like I could do it this weekend if I had to (my body isn't quite as sore as I'd have expected. But instead of rejoicing, here I am wondering whether I shouldn't have pushed harder. UGH! ). The reality is that it was dangerously hot, so I decided to have an absolute BLAST with my WISH friends, instead of being hung up on the finish time. After all, if I can't play at a penguin race, where could I?

Not very hungry today, so it has been easy thus far to be "good".
B: coffee w/lots of skim milk
L: grapes, garden salad, can of tuna, 1/2 svg FF dressing

Hey Guys, sounds like everyone is doing good.

Cam you were right to have the fun instead of beating yourself up trying to get a better time in the heat.

I did the same saturday in my race, another minute off the time and I would need a week to recover fully. Instead I feel great except for a tad sore in the hammies.

Nancy you can do those 10 lbs...:cheer2:

Escape, I feel your pain, I lose a few and gain it back all the time.

Maria you are gonna do fine lady.

Wendy thanks for joining us.

Judy can wear shoes now, how cool. (Aren't running shoes formal wear in NC ?)

Everyone, isn't it wonderful to never grow up and act normal. We still love to go out and play. In my case it's the fountain of youth. It would be so sad if that silly fun child inside us were to grow up and be serious.

Dave:hippie:

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. Yesterday I did get in all my water and was peeing like crazy all day. I have picked up a cold which has decreased my appetite so that might help with the first couple of days. Stayed within my point limit.

Judy--- Good job on your 3.6 pound weight loss.

Marie-- Sorry about your DH uncle terminal illness.

escape--- I am right there with you losing and gaining the same pounds. Over the past 5 years I have gained and lost the same 10 pounds over and over.

Cam--- Glad you had a great time at CDC. With all the walking you did, you might surprise yourself that you really didn't very much. Plus it is ok to self-indulgent now and then especially with WISH friends.

Dave--- You are such a great cheerleader. :cheer2:

Nancy, cheering or you brave, wonderful ladies is a pleasure.

I finally decided to step on the scale this morning, YUCKY. I weighed 177.8 lbs. I'm 5' 9.5" tall and 155 to 160 is my best weight for racing. I have the same fits everyone else is having trying to get to my ideal competition weight. I have 12% body fat which isn't aweful but wagging an extra 20 pounds in a race is 20 lbs, whether it's fat or muscle or and evil twin.

I think I had my right shoe tied a little to tight today because the top of my foot is hurting a little.

Nancy I hope that cold goes away soon.

Dave:hippie:

Hello everyone -

I didn't disappear, but we are going away in a few days and I am trying to get everything done before I go. Accent on "trying."

Anyway, this weekend I did not lose any weight, but I didn't gain any either. But somehow I gained back .2 when I got on the scale this morning. So while I did not make my 5 pounds goal last week, I am under the second century mark, which is a big deal for me. I said I'd never go back up there, I did, and now I am back under it. :thumbsup2

Judy can wear shoes now, how cool. (Aren't running shoes formal wear in NC ?)

WWDave - I just wanted to say I am in New York. Not the city, but about 40 minutes north of Manhattan. You actually don't see too many people in running shoes around here. Women go to the market in Maholo's.

Hi everyone –

Judy – You go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think an almost 4lb loss in a week is great! And what a feeling to see a new number!!!! Enjoy your trip but please come back and tell us how it went. We’ll all be pulling for you!!!

Dave – Hope your foot feels better real soon!!!!!

Nancy – One area I always struggle with is water. I am highly addicted to diet sodas, which I know I need to work on. Hopefully once I get on a string of staying on plan I can work on that to!

Cam – I think you earned the splurge!!! WTO on another ½ Marathon! You are awesome!!!!!

Susie – It’s great to see you back here!!!!!!!! I’ve tried the nuts in the baggie trick, but I always end up just eating extra bags…. I just can’t have them around right now. Please post here even if it’s a difficult day.

Maria – My thoughts are with you and your DH. It is wonderful though that you aren’t letting the stress win and our staying on plan!!!!!

Wendy – Welcome!!!!!!!!

Well for me this weekend was a bit of a bust. We went to my favorite restaurant on Sun and they have these rolls that taste like a bit of heaven. I had two….. I know, I know…..

I got right back on the wagon Mon morning though and so far so good. I’ve had a couple really good things so I wanted to share:

Pasta dish:
WW macaroni pasta, low sugar tomato sauce, lean ground sirloin, low fat Italian cheese.
Boil pasta according to direction. Brown sirloin and mix with sauce. Layer all like a pan of lasagna. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or till cheese is lightly golden and bubbly.

Chocolate strawberry drink:
8oz light chocolate soy milk and handful frozen strawberries
Blend all until smooth yet smooth

It's a little cooler this morning 71 degrees but it's forcast to be 101 today. I work evenings so I have my mornings to train so I'll beat the heat.

I decided yesterday to get my a$$ going on the weight loss. I want to be at 160 by ToT. I'm only 5'9.5" tall so that is a good weight for me. I'll be a lot faster walker with that 17 lbs gone.

Starting weight 177.8 14.5% body fat.

Today's weight 177.4

It will be interesting to see if my walk times improve as my weight goes down.

Everyone have a great day.

Dave:hippie:

Judy--- You are off to a good start. I would think that once you can start to work out again that you should be able to see a decline weight. Glad your foot is healing.

Minnie--- I love diet Pepsi. I have cut back to only 24 oz bottle at work and another one at night, probably still to much but better than it used to be. I am usually good about getting the water in when working, it is my days off I have trouble. I also love bread and rolls and have trouble staying away from them in when we are dining out.

Dave--- Gosh you will weigh less than me. I just want to smack you upside the head. :rotfl2: So watch out when we met at the ToT.

I am off to a good start as I have lost 5 pounds, I will disregard that it is all excess fluid that I lost on Monday. At this point I just take anything I can get. I have been good both Monday and Tuesday so 2 straight days of WW Yeah for me.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Nancy
