Hello, my name is Judith Anne and I am a dope.
Two years, for two years now I have been doing this training thing. And every Saturday (weather permitting) I hit the road for a L/R. This past Saturday was no different. Seven miles.
However, this time Charlie came with me, as he had only eight to do. He normally prefers the track or a 5K course we have done to the roads I take because he doesn't like the traffic. I go out earlier than he usually does so traffic isn't really an issue. But I digress.
Anyway, we go out and he of course is way ahead of me. About mile 3.5 my right foot starts to really hurt. My third toe is killing me, which is often does. But my Inner Coach starts yelling at me and I keep going. So I see my husband go out, and he comes back - on the same side of the road that he went out on. "Hey" I'm thinking "Your supposed to be on the other side." Am I right here or what? So, then, all of the sudden, just like on TV, it was as if a light bulb went off over my head!

"You dope! No wonder your foot hurts!" So I go to the other side of the road and after a few minutes my foot no longer hurts! DUH!!! The road is banked on the side, I guess so rain can run off. I don't know why. So when we get back in the car I mention this to Charlie and he says yes of course you're supposed to stay on the same side for just that reason!
Well, this is news to me. All those miles on the same roads and it never occurred to me that my foot was hurting because the road was so uneven.
Which also explains why for the past several months my right IT band has been complaining. I was laying on my side watching Tony Stewart thru himself against the wall yesterday when Lena

jumped up on my side and walked down my leg and OMG I just about levitated right off the couch! She only weights 11 pounds but I guess my IT band is more inflamed than I realized!

OUCH!
And so, I have now learned a lesson. Going forward I will stay on the same side of the road.

And quite frankly, when there are no cars coming, I will pretty much be in the middle of the lane. Don't worry, I'll be careful. It's a back road that not too many people use early on a Saturday morning.
I have no idea why this never occurred to me before.
