Wk Of Nov 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

It took me quite a while to get my tag. I think the tag fairy doesn't frequent the WISH boards.

I do not believe in the tag fairy. Its an urban legend like the Neiman-Marcus cookie recipe and the spiders under toilet seats.

WOMEN! You pretty princesses will stomp the crap out of anything that might possibly be a threat to your baby but a tiny spider makes you go all weak.

(I go all weak around a spider to but in a manly dignified manner).

Oh EEK Panda:hippie:

Hi guys!!!:wave2:

Cecilia--that is great about the 5K w/ DD!!!

Lou--Great job on the Marathon!

Mel--at WDW! You lucky dog you!

Scott--your pace!!!!!!! Seems amazing to me!

Everyone else--Great job on your successes! Whew--I'm trying to learn and keep up with everyone, but wow! You guys move fast!

So... update for me...Last week was Couch to 5K Week 5 for me. It was successful!!!! I've never run in my LIFE until I started this program to prepare me for the 5K in January at WDW. Well last week, Day 3 was the day to run 20 min without stopping... I did it!!! :woohoo: I was so excited! I was extrememly slow! I could have walked faster than I ran, but the bottom line is I did it. I jogged for 20 min!

Today is Day 1 of Week 6. DH and I ride to work together. We both work in the same office building. Well, today, I have to work 8 hours, he-10 hours!!! So, I brought my clothes and I'll be doing my workout around the parking lot here! With my bright green shirt, I'm sure no one will miss me! :) He normally does it with me, but this is going to be a crazy week! :upsidedow

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Hello, my name is Judith Anne and I am a dope.

Two years, for two years now I have been doing this training thing. And every Saturday (weather permitting) I hit the road for a L/R. This past Saturday was no different. Seven miles.

However, this time Charlie came with me, as he had only eight to do. He normally prefers the track or a 5K course we have done to the roads I take because he doesn't like the traffic. I go out earlier than he usually does so traffic isn't really an issue. But I digress.

Anyway, we go out and he of course is way ahead of me. About mile 3.5 my right foot starts to really hurt. My third toe is killing me, which is often does. But my Inner Coach starts yelling at me and I keep going. So I see my husband go out, and he comes back - on the same side of the road that he went out on. "Hey" I'm thinking "Your supposed to be on the other side." Am I right here or what? So, then, all of the sudden, just like on TV, it was as if a light bulb went off over my head! "You dope! No wonder your foot hurts!" So I go to the other side of the road and after a few minutes my foot no longer hurts! DUH!!! The road is banked on the side, I guess so rain can run off. I don't know why. So when we get back in the car I mention this to Charlie and he says yes of course you're supposed to stay on the same side for just that reason!

Well, this is news to me. All those miles on the same roads and it never occurred to me that my foot was hurting because the road was so uneven. :rolleyes1

Which also explains why for the past several months my right IT band has been complaining. I was laying on my side watching Tony Stewart thru himself against the wall yesterday when Lena :cat: jumped up on my side and walked down my leg and OMG I just about levitated right off the couch! She only weights 11 pounds but I guess my IT band is more inflamed than I realized! OUCH!

And so, I have now learned a lesson. Going forward I will stay on the same side of the road. :thumbsup2 And quite frankly, when there are no cars coming, I will pretty much be in the middle of the lane. Don't worry, I'll be careful. It's a back road that not too many people use early on a Saturday morning.

I have no idea why this never occurred to me before. :upsidedow

Oh, yeah, I'd be up for the 1000 mile team challenge, but just be aware... You wouldn't get much from me. It's all I can do to get in a few miles a week in my C25K Training! :sad2: Does water aerobics count??? :confused3

Hi, everyone! Just popping in to say "OMG!!!! How in the world am I going to train while my DMIL is visiting for 2 weeks?!?!?!!?" I did get 12.24 of my desired 16 in Friday night before the gym closed, but couldn't "abandon" my family last night to go to they gym to get in another stinkin' 3.76. I am hoping to sneak there tonight after my 6:00 physical therapy appointment. As long as Howard isn't going to be on campus all evening for a class, maybe he'll go home and cook dinner for DMIL and DS14 and I can sneak off to the gym. UGH!!!

We are scheduled to do a Thanksgiving 5k for MS. I'm hoping no feelings will be hurt. I'm even willing to get up very early and get the turkey in the oven before we go.

Oh, and on a more positive note -- I cooked a real meal in my new kitchen last night -- pasta with meat sauce & garlic bread. Geez, wish I'd had the excuse of carb loading to justify that. :lmao:

My partner/dear friend ran her first marathon yesterday in Philly and finished in 4:10 chip time and that is with stopping for hugs and fighting off numbness in her legs for miles 24- nearly 26.

Lou -- I give you a LOT of credit for running in that. We were cold and wet!! Congratulations!! Now, take good care of yourself! :goodvibes

Hey WISHers-

I finally recovered enough from my weekend to post! We went to St. Simons Island this weekend- it's where I like to do my LRs because it's flat. My mom was in town, and DH's parents came to visit.

Saturday afternoon I threw Harry in the stroller and trotted down to my mom's house- she wanted to join us on her bike. I've never trained with anyone except the baby in the stroller, so it was fun chatting. I even went without listening to my iPod, just to see if I could! My mom was too fast (I kept yelling about tires and chains from the distance) and she led us too far away, so my scheduled 8 turned into 9.66, but it still felt great at the time. (I didn't have anything but water, which I think helped contribute to my misery late in Sunday's run).

Saturday night, we dumped the bambinos on grand-parents and went out to eat. I didn't have a very carbo-intensive meal, but we stopped by a pub, and I had one beer to get some carbs in. ;)

Sunday morning, I went through the usual ritual with Harry body-gliding his feet and then went to my mom's house. I was scheduled to do 18 miles. I went slower than normal, which is probably good, but it just dragged on and on... My mom had to leave me at 12 miles. Harry, who'd been awake the whole time, decided to nap then, so I was really alone. I picked up the pace a bit, but at about mile 14 I hit the "Bite Me Zone" big time. I put on my iPod for the first time in two days and that helped a little. Around mile 15.5 I left the BMZ and fell full force into the "Woe Is Me Zone." I considered crying, but decided it wouldn't help me get home faster and would probably take too much energy anyway. Nothing really stood out as being that bad (although I think I know where my IT band is now), but every part of me just wanted to stop. I did make it home eventually and took an ice bath. Met DH, DD, and the in-laws for lunch... at a restaurant up two flights of stairs. Yep, almost cried again. (Oh, and Harry who was great in the stroller for 3+ hours, can't sit still in a restaurant for more than 10 minutes- what is up with that?!)

I feel much better now. Just an all over mild soreness, with nothing really thumping. On the bright side, I ran more miles in 2 days than are ever called for in my schedule- so while I'm a moron for doing it, I know I won't have to go that far again until there's a medal waiting for me!

My upcoming week is 5-8-5-8-13. I may drop the 8 on Saturday. Come to think of it, I may drop the 5 tomorrow. ;)

Hi guys....weekend update from me:
I ran 6 miles on Saturday. Not sure of the exact time, and I haven't uploaded the Garmin information yet.
Was planning on 12 mi on Sunday, but I got home at 9 pm on Saturday to empty Halloween candy wrappers all over my living room floor. Maggie, my Scottie, had found my Halloween candy stash. Her, my other dog Finlay, and I all rushed to the emergency vet so that they could induce vomiting in both Maggie and Finlay. Finlay got to come home that night as he didn't have any of the chocolate, but Maggie scarfed down so much - it was ridiculous. She was kept overnight for observation but got to come home yesterday morning. Decided to bail on an early morning run as it was such a late night and by the time I went out 3.14 miles was all I had in me.

I've been feeling kind of pooped on my day 2 runs lately - maybe I'm going out too fast on Saturdays? Maybe just because I had two bad weekends in a row, but I am starting to feel some doubt creep in about my ability to train for Goofy.

FYI - things I don't need to see... The vet brought out exactly what Maggie yucked up as part of her vomit induction. Ewww...I didn't need to see that!

Hi everyone!

18.66 miles for me yesterday! Wow, I didn't think I had it in me. I'm running time instead of distance. I can do it if I say I'm going to run for 3 1/2 hours rather than 18 miles. Then, no matter how slow I go, whatever I cover in 3 1/2 hours is it. I don't run until I complete 18 miles. Maybe I'm psyching myself out but it works for me...running time instead of distance. I had seriously thought about running to the nearest Starbucks and sitting there for 3 1/2 hours but I was a good girl and it turned out it was 18.66 miles. And talk about tired legs. They hurt during the night so I didn't get too much in the way of sleep. It was exhausting just trying to wake up today.

Leana: OMG! I hope Maggie is doing fine. We had a beagle that would eat anything and she ate a lot of chocolate on a couple occasions. Nothing untoward every happened to her so I'm not really sure how much stock to put in that chocolate can kill dogs. Is it like Nutrasweet? You need to drink 16 cases a day for 20 years for it to be bad for you? Anyway, I'm happy she is back home with you.

Cam: sorry to hear that having your MIL in the house is putting a crimp in your workout schedule. If things get too much you can always just run some "errands" and go to the gym instead. How is the new kitchen working out? Pasta and garlic bread sounds yummy.

Jen in GA: outstanding job on pushing through and finishing the 18 miles!! I think I go through the BMZ and Woe is me zone several times during my long runs. In fact, I usually start in the BMZ!!!

Judith Anne: you are NOT a dope. Now, stop that! You are Queen Judy and we love you. No matter what you do. I'm happy you figured that out and your knees/IT bands feel better.

Stacie: :thumbsup2 on week 5 and running 20 minutes straight!! That is awesome news and you should be so proud of your effort!

WWDave: if said spider is threatening my offspring, I will beat the crap out of it too! And thanks for starting up the 1000 mile thread. I love seeing how we did!

princessrunner: I really don't mind snow if it's early in the session and there is no other ice and snow on the roads or sidewalks or running path. Then it's kind of peaceful to run in. But long about December I'd rather it didn't snow anymore.

Today is a well-deserved rest day so nothing to post. Have a great afternoon everyone!

Hi Guys...

So 5 inches of snow on my ground this morning  !!! Geeze! As a skiier..I love snow lol...just NOT during marathon training!!! I need to get out on those roads tomorrow and hit 6 miles. Going to be a little tricky in the slushy, yucky mess that will be left over! Here's hoping it warms up enough so the roads are clear tomorrow! Today is my rest day, but I did teach two Pilates classes today.

Jen in Ga...Congrats on finishing a grueling weekend of training! Goofy training is brutal. Way to stick out those 18 Miles! :thumbsup2 I'm SOOO over-due for a tough LR...but boy do I hate the BMZ (luuuuv that saying btw).

Martha...I really like your LR plan. It makes a ton of sense to me :). And it turned out to be a great pace for that run :). Great effort!!!

Leanna....Thank goodness your dog is ok. How scary :(.

Cam...Good luck getting those training runs in with your company there!!!!

I AM TIRED!
I biked with Bree 14 miles yesterday and ran 1.5ish with my JRT. THought it would be a good idea to start training my body to get off the bike and run.

Bree had a nasty fall on the bike yesterday so send her lots of :wizard: . We were riding and she looked at a family taking pics then I heard..."CHRISTA! CHRISTA!" She hit my back tire and ran off the trail. She was scraped up pretty bad, but nothing broken. Bike was OK too...except for the reflector that broke up. I told her not to worry...she needed to take them off anyway for speed.:goodvibes

I am so tired today and probably not get a chance to do anything. I guess the 2 shows, biking, rehearsal, and running put me over the edge!

Hey WWDave, how can I count my dancing.....I get a great WO with that. How will we divide the teams? Just random.......OH, I may get EVIL if we compete...so sorry in advance.;)

Hey everybody--just stopping in to see how everyone is doing! No training yet for me today, the plan is to head to the gym later on tonight for 5 miles on the treadmill!!

SilverSteve--Great job on your 5k!!! Awesome time too!!

Scott--nice job on your 8 miler, and a great pace, despite not feeling 100%!

Amy--Are you doing the 8k in Glen Ridge on Thursday?? I had thought about doing that race, but didn't think I would be able to fit it in on Thanksgiving. BTW--you had that much snow...we had NONE here in Saddle Brook!!! Good thing, since I HATE the snow!

Becky--sorry, I don't have any advice, not sure why that would happen. Hopefully, it was just a one time thing and it doesn't happen again.

Panda Dave--team miles challenge sounds like fun...I would definetely do it for some extra motivation!

Cecilia--sorry to hear about the weather forecast for thursday...you know how that goes though, it could change 5 times before then! So, hopefully, you will get your race in with no rain!!

Judy--I never thought of the whole road issue. Glad to hear you learned that and hopefully it will help with the pain.

Cam--Hope you were able to sneak a workout in tonight. Your first real meal in the new kitchen sounds yummy!!!

Jen in GA--sounds like you had a good weekend of training...looks like a packed weed ahead as well...good luck!

Leana--sorry to hear about your dogs...glad to hear they are both OK!

Martha--WTG on getting your 3.5 hours in!!!

Time to go eat dinner, then head to the gym a little later!! I will check in after my workout, while I watch Dancing with the Stars...GO HELIO!!!!

Hey Team - I got my flu shot today so my arm is a little numb. I decided not to take a risk this year!!! Tonight I am switching out to speed walking on the TM instead of R/W. I needed a change and need to learn to walk faster than my penguin legs normally go!

Judith Anne (BTW, that's my mom's name so it always makes me giggle!) - you know, sometimes you need a revelation! And you had one! Now you can find something else to blame for all your aches and pains! Cool huh!

Martha - WOWZERS! You'll be ready to run a marathon next week at the rate you are going! I think I am going to bungee myself to you!

Cam - Oh, I am sorry about the IL's! I hope it doesn't affect your training. I am going to Las Vegas next week for work, so it will be tough to squeeze in my training there. Why does this have to be so tough!!!!

Ok, almost time to go home. Yippee... Have a great night all.

Laurie...YES...I'm doing the Ashenfelter 8K :). Ohhhh I'm doing it alone now...my SIL bailed out on me......so if you decide to run let's meet up somewhere :). Would love to say "hi". Just PM me and let me know.

Jen117...ugh...I NEED to get my flu shot. I've put it off too long. So smart of you :).

Judy - I guess I am dumb then too. I always walk/run facing traffic. I don't think I am going to change my ways though - people around here are rude & I have to watch out!

Total dive by: got to the Y and did 4 miles. The first 3 I walked. The last one, I ran more than half of that mile. I am still hacking up my lung & it probably wasn't the brightest idea to run at all.

Off to the mall to see Santa! :santa:

Cecilia

:rotfl2: So agree.

I hate this time of year coming home in the dark and it is only 5pm. So instead of going to the gym, put on my PJ's and if it wouldn't be that I have to make dinner I would consider just going to bed for the night.

Will go tomorrow to get in a few miles. Have to help with the milage challenge.

Nancy

Hey guys, just got back form this morning's hour - man it's getting hot out there. My Saturday run was a nightmare, I quit at 1.23 and walked the rest as I'd seriously underestimated how much fluid I needed - thank heavens it was a drop back week. This week I reckon I'm going to need all four fuel belt bottles to get through the 3.30.

Beckie: I was going to say the same as Cruella de Mom, I get car sick after a long run due to low blood sugar (I get travel sick if I dont eat - go figure). I also get really cold if I don't eat enough.

Judy: Took me ages to work that one out too - I couldn't work out why my knee always hurt when I ran a particular route then I realised it had a camber - annoyingly Sydney Harbour Bridge also has one so while running over that and back that's the easiest way to extend my run by 40 odd minutes I can't do it as it hurts my knee and so have to run round in circles instead!!

Anyway gotta go, one of your countrymen is waiting for me to interview him so best go hit the phone. Helen

Well, my five miles that I was supposed to do tonight, turned into only 2. I don't normally do my workout right after eating dinner, but tonight I did. BAD idea! I made it to two miles on the TM, and my stomach was killing me....so to make a long story short, I had to stop. At least I got two miles in!

Amy--I would love to do the race with you on Thursday, but I am heading down to Jackson to my sister's house to spend time with the family. Good Luck to you though!!

Wowzies Martha! Awesome run! Under 10 minute mile pace for a long run is super!:thumbsup2

Judy, I too run in the middle of the road anytime I can. I can usually get away with it early Sunday mornings in our residential area. It is a great treat!

Helen, I never thought about it heating up down there for you. Good luck with your next long run.

Nancy, I am with ya girl, I have my PJ's on right now and it is only 7:30!

Amy, 5 inches of snow!:scared1:

Christa, what kind of bike do you have? All my friends are trying to convince me to enter MAP next year too! I really need two things. I need to learn how to swim, how do I say, more efficiently and I need a new bike. Hope Bree is feeling better. Is she running Disney this year?

Jen in Ga - Wow, looks like a great week of running! Stay healthy!

Cam - Hope you can escape for a few trianing sessions. I know how hard it is to get those in when you have company. I am sure you will find the time.

Sunny, good to hear from you. How are you feeling?

Jen, I have always been too chicken to get a flu shot, I always hear about the people who get the flu right after getting the shot. I know this is not the norm, but I am still chicken.

Hey Vic, how is training coming?

Hi Bill, so cute that you and Lynnda are putting the boys in the kids race and baby crawl! Can't wait to see Timmy and Billy!:thumbsup2

I am really enjoying my yoga classes I started about a month ago. I also started pool running and cycling to help rehab my knee. Hopefully I will be able to keep up all this cross training and get the miles in on the road!

If you are so inclined, sign up for pacing groups on the new Pacing Groups thread!

Hey Colleen! The training is coming along, but it really bugs me that I'm so slow. The 1/2 marathon I ran on Saturday was 2:47 and change. I say it's acceptable, but it isn't.

I'm going to sign up for the 5-hour pace group for the marathon. Come hell or high water, I'm going to run it at or below 5 hours.

How's the knee?
