Wk Of Nov 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey all... work Thanksgiving lunch... ate too much..... ughhhhhh....

Judy - Hey, my DD7's middle name is Judith (named after Grandma), so you can tell her that your name is Judith and she will think you are COOL!!!!!

Martha - I am like you when driving. I now yell to DH when I see a runner "RUNNER". He's like... OK I'm not blind!

Stephanie - Oh I hope you feel better soon!!!!

OK, gotta get some work done. I am gone to Las Vegas next week... For work! All day on my feet with no play time is not fun!

Hello Everyone!

Guess what the weather forcast is for Atanta on Thursday? RAIN! Just great! We go months with no rain and the only day its gonna rain is on a race day! ARGH!

I know! I know! :sad2:

I bought a very thin rain jacket from Lands End that is wicking and has the ventilation mesh on the sides. I thought I'd wear it Thursday with my running skort and a singlet underneath, but DH thinks I'll burn up. What do you think Cecilia?

Good luck on your half marathon! :thumbsup2

OK, I went back to the running store yesterday and took my shoes that have been killing my feet. They were very nice and helped me find another pair. This time I went with saucony pro grid trigon ride 5. I ran in them this morning and I think these are gonna work, but I still have leftover foot pain so it is hard to tell. After my 10K on Thursday I'm gonna take off next week I think before starting back. In a few weeks I start training for my first half and I don't want to start off with messed up feet! :scared:

If I don't get back on I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! :goodvibes

I will run down the middle of the road during the early morning runs. At night I tend to zig-zag

Maybe this is why you got pulled over while running ;)

Hey everybody--no training to report on today...the weather was rainy and cold here today, and when i got home from work, I was so tired, and I just could not motivate myself to go to the gym for another dreaded TM workout. Tomorrow, the plan is to do 8 miles. Since, we only have a half day of school, I should have no problems getting this in tomorrow.

Colleen--WTG for getting your XT in while you rehab your knee!

Cam--WTG for getting those miles in, especially with family visiting!

Lisa--WTG for getting the workout in at the gym. One of the reasons I hate going to the gym is for the exact reason that there is always a terribly boring station blaring on the TV and it drives my crazy!! Sorry to hear that you got rear-ended..glad you weren't hurt.

Tricia--Glad to hear you had fun at the races! It was a pretty good race, although I was pretty disappointed that Dale Jr. didn't do so well. Although that seems to be par for the course this year! Can't wait till Daytona!!!

Stacie--WTG for getting your workout in yesterday!! Might be smart to give your shins a rest day if they are hurting, you don't want them to get worse. Have you iced them at all??

Stephanie--Hang in there! Hope that back pain is feeling better soon!

Shan--Glad to hear they got you some new shoes at the running store..hope these work better for you!

Hope everyone has a great night!!!

Hi Team...

Me = :faint:

LONG LONG Day...in terms of training. And it doesn't help that I'm trying to get ready to cook for 15 on T'Day AND run a race ;). Yes....that's probably not wise but us runners DO have our priorities right? :rolleyes1

Anyway...managed to work my butt off today and STILL be on time for my parent-teacher conferences. Yay for me (I'm the annoying perpetually late person...so that IS a victory).

Did 2.5 hours of pilates (including my private session with my trainer)...the pilates kicked my butt and made for a sloooow run. I had 6 miles scheduled but the rain and cold kept me pushing the run back until I could finally get out there and the 6 became 4. But at least I got some miles in today. Better than nothing right. :confused3 After the run I ran out to teach my evening pilates class....and trust me I did NOT do a whole bunch of the exercises tonight ;).

Anyway...that's it from my training world. Feeling tired and ready to watch some TV. Oh yeah...writers strike....ready to read my book *sigh* :).

Laurie....Sometimes rest is more important than the run if you're feeling run down! Good luck on your run tomorrow :).

Stephanie...Pixie Dust for the back. Hope it heals up soon!!!!

Shan...Awesome about the new shoes. You did the right thing going back!!!

Martha--my back pain has turned into what you were describing. Once I got moving today, the real pain was occuring after sitting for awhile and then standing up. Guess the 8 hrs in the car will be really pleasant tomorrow:rolleyes:

Got 3.1 in today. Not much in the way of distance, but something none the less. I squeezed the run in between laundry loads and napping kids. Tonight I've been doing some super speedy packing XT. Yeah, we leave at 6:30 tomorrow morning and I started packing us up at 6:30 tonight. :rolleyes1

All-righty, gotta see if I forgot to pack anything. Everyone have a wonderful Turkey Day if I don't make it back on here before then. Safe travels and Great races/LRs!

I've updated the WISH Team calendar.

I'll try to read up some tomorrow. Happy training everyone.

Christa, what kind of bike do you have? All my friends are trying to convince me to enter MAP next year too! I really need two things. I need to learn how to swim, how do I say, more efficiently and I need a new bike. Hope Bree is feeling better. Is she running Disney this year?
Colleen

1. I have a Trek WSD Road bike...LOVE IT! I am short...and it is short with me.
2. I did MAP 2 years ago and may do it again. Great 1st time tri! Bree is doing MAP too! It is 3/28....when reg opens, you have like 3 hours to sign up...yes it fills fast!....O, I suck at swimming!:headache: But I pass tons of people on the run!
3. Bree is OK. She is doing WDW this year.

Maybe this is why you got pulled over while running ;)
:lmao:

Anyone interested in, or doing, the Hampton Beach (NH) Half in February?
I'd like to do it since it's local, and an inaugural race. But it will be very :cold:
http://www.locorunning.com/hamptonhalf.php
They do have this race divided into runners & walkers - much like the Great Bay half I did last spring (same people coordinating it).

I skipped my xt yesterday in favor of getting errands done, and getting 6.5 hours sleep.

Lots of  and :wizard: coming your way, Stephanie!

Lots of  and :wizard: coming your way, Stephanie!

Thanks Kristi. However, the phantom pain seems to have disappeared for the time being. I wonder if it's weather related--we've been so up and down here that my arthritis in my shoulder is mad, might be causing the other issues.

Okay, gotta get the kids outta bed so we can get in the car and head to the Lone Star State! Happy Turkey Day!

Stephanie--glad to hear your back pain is gone for the time being. Here's hoping it stays that way.

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving! I'm not sure if I'll have time to post on here before tomorrow again or not, so have a great weekend and safe travels to everyone.

Steve

Good morning, all. :surfweb:

Gotta love this brief warm spell. I think I'll be able to do my 15 mi LW on Thursday morning in shorts. Rain is now a bigger worry than cold.

DH wants to leave for South Jersey as early as possible Thursday. I-95 is bound to be a *itch. So, I guess I'll start my walk around 6:00a in order to finish by 9:30/10:00 with warmup, cool down, and stretching. Then, by the time I soak, eat, shower, and pack for the weekend, we'll be lucky to hit the road by 11 or 1130. Uh oh. He will not be a happy camper (I mean driver). Maybe get to his parents by 2:30? 3:00? :confused3 Yikes. Peak traffic.

Ugh. One of the perils of Goofy training must be getting caught in holiday traffic.

I suppose it could be worse...we could be driving tonight.

Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING WEEKEND WISH TEAM

You hear a lot about bad things on the internet, and a lot of it is true. But there are some wonderful things about it also. Without the internet the WISH team wouldn't exist.

I know there are several WISH Team members who like me are over fifty or are getting close. We remember the pre-internet world. Heck we remember the pre color TV world.

When I look back over the years and how things have changed sometimes it just amazes me. I haven't read a newspaper in a couple of years, I barely open a phone book, I check products out on line before I go shopping in person. My family is only a speed dial away. But there are some things we never need to replace.

We should never replace real friends and experiences with vertual ones. For to many the vertual world becomes their real world. What attracted Erica and I to the WISH team was that it's real people who get together and have real adventures. It's not just made up personalities on a web site, a lot of boards are that way.

On this Thanksgiving Weekend, think about what's really important. Your family, they are there for you when it seems that no one else is, family is unconditional love. Your friends, they make life bareable when it seems that it's one mountian after another. I won't mention faith since I'm sure there are lots of different faiths represented on the board. Last your self, when you are being the best person you can be, you can hold your head high regardless of how much you earn or how pretty you are.

We must never replace our passion for seeing and doing under our own power. So many people live their lives and never really know their limits and never experience the awesome pleasure that comes from pushing through them.

My WISH friends I have met and the ones I have yet to meet, "Have a wonderful Holiday and return safely, none of you are replaceable".

Dave:)

How nice! Just to refence what you said about the limits... A few weeks ago I was at my parents house. I had decided to do my workout there and my next workout was looming...the dreaded 20 min jog!!! My dad (who is now 73) felt the need to offer some of his wisdom. He told me... There are two types of beliefs. Limitless belief--where you feel no limits and know you can reach your goal no matter what and Limited belief--where you see you goals but somehow have self-doubt that you cannot reach because of "whatever." At that time, I had mentioned that I just didn't know if I could jog for 20 min without stopping. I had never jogged anywhere in my life until I started the Couch to 5K. So, he was pretty much telling me to stop putting a limit on myself and make my goal a limitless belief. If I believe I can jog the 5K and the complete a 15K, I can do it. So, not really sure if that applies to what you were saying, but there you have it... My 2 cents and thought for the day!

So... Good Morning everyone!!!

So I woke up at 4:15 this morning and took me 45 minute to convice myself to get up and get my training in! :goodvibes I knew if it didn't happen this morning though, it wouldn't happen today since we are leaving directly from work and driving 6 hrs to the cousins's house! I hate being off schedule! It was workout Day 2/Week 6. Jog 10 min/walk 3/jog 10 min with the 5 min warmup/cool down... Success! If my stupid legs weren't still bothering me I think I might have actually enjoyed it! The inside of my lower legs are bothering me. I'm trying to stretch my calves and shins, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I've just gotten new shoes and I really like them so I hope they are not the problem. Maybe I'm tying them too tight???

I'm pretty proud of running for 10 min. SLOW, but steady! ;) It's amazing! Eventhough the weight is not coming off as quickly as I like, I know I'm getting healthier. When I first started I could barely run for 90 secs. It was a huge struggle, huffin and puffin, now, 10 minutes!!! Freaking amazing!

My Day 3 will either be Friday or Saturday and it's a 25 min run w/ no walking breaks. I managed 20 last week so here's hoping for success this weekend too!

Today it should be pretty slow in the office--I wore my Micky crocs! :ssst: Shhh, don't tell anywone. Hopefully no one will notice!

Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Stacie
