Wk Of Nov 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Only 40 minutes of speed walking (well speedy for me) on the TM. I guess that's a lot to the average person, so I should be proud!!!! :upsidedow

Kristi - DH told me the Goo is playing for the Halftime show of the Green Bay Packer/Detroit Game next week. Is that true?????? I instantly thought of you and knew you would know the truth or where to find it when it concerns the Goo!

Colleen - I am big chicken too, but I got sick last year because I travel a lot for work in January and next week. I shake hundreds of hands at my conventions and well.... frankly it is kind of gross thinking of all the germs that get passed to me. I just sucked it and did it. I am a needle wimp and it didn't hurt as bad as I remembered it to. Tho tonight I feel a bit exhausted and I am sure it's from the shot.

Hi, everyone! Just wanted to report that I got in my 3.76 tonight to make it 16 since Friday night. Not the way I wanted to get my miles in, but at least those are done. Howard and I will do a 5k on turkey day and I'll carve out time to get to the gym to TM Saturday a.m. before everyone is up.

Great job on all the training!
Christa -- no wonder you are exhausted! And sending a huge  to Bree. Tell her to take care of herself!

Jen - sorry about the pain in your arm.

Sorry to hear about all the aborted runs, but I am so grateful to know that my teammates are smart enough to know when NOT to push it.

Vic -- I think that is a great finish time!

Okay, off to email ToT pix and then to bed.

I'm going to sign up for the 5-hour pace group for the marathon. Come hell or high water, I'm going to run it at or below 5 hours.

The pace groups work. I know several people that have gotten their goal time by sticking with the pace group leader the whole way. I think it would make me crazy to listen to someone that cheerful the entire way. I might start yelling back and that would be very very bad.

OH and Jen in Ga - 18 miles pushing a stroller is an amazing feat! Goofy will seem like a cake walk with no stroller to push. I can completely relate to the 'wanting to cry but it would take more effort' feeling! We need a name for that! One that sounds like the title to a scary movie: What comes after the Biteme Zone?

Cecilia

Christa--tell Bree we hope she recovers soon from the fall (even if it ends up being just an ego that got hurt :) ). Glad she didn't hurt herself worse. Tell her not to feel bad about taking the spill. I had my road bike a grand total of 12 hours when I took my first (and only, to date) nasty crash. I ended up cracking a rib and messing up my thumb in the process. Fun stuff, this biking thing, huh? :)

Steve

This is opening hunting weekend, yet the Y was full of men....
Jen - Lots of deer there in the Y? Maybe they were hunting some 2-legged doe?

Martha - Great job on the 18+ miles. Fabulous pace! Is it tougher picking a route for 3.5 hours vs. some set distance?

Jen in Ga - All those miles, you and Harry are ready for Goofy today! WTG!

Vic - Take it easy there big fella. Just look at how much you've improved this year. Keep making those gains and you'll be fine. Oh, and BTW, a 5 hour marathon in Hell or in high water is asking a lot. You'd probably be better off saying
"I'm going to sign up for the 5-hour pace group for the marathon. Come 60 degrees and slightly overcast, I'm going to run it at or below 5 hours."

Cam - I didn't get the invite for your carb-loading dinner. It must have been lost in the mail:rotfl: . Good luck getting your steps in this week.

Christa - Sounds to me that if Bree is riding up your back tire you must not be going fast enough!:rolleyes1

Judy - I'm glad you figured out the whole running on a camber thing. Just wait till you find out that your pace will improve if you run with your left eye shut. I think I saw that in last Feb's Runner's World.;)

I've been keeping up with my training pretty well. This week is going to be a challenge so we'll see.

And for future reference: Bah, Humbug. The Holidays sometimes seem like an inconvenient hurdle on the way to marathon weekend.

Whew, keeping up with this thread is exhausting. :faint:

Jen: Love, love, loved St. Simons Island when I lived in GA. My favorite place to go and relax. And 18 miles pushing a stroller would put anyone in the WMZ fully bypassing the BMZ!! :scared1:

Martha: I don't like to run in snow, slush, or any of the other things that go with it. I race ski. We have 15 miles of trails that my FIL grooms specially for us spoiled women so I take off from my house in the blinding snow and, yes, it is a very zen experience...until my dog cleans me out. :dogdance:

I did 4.18 miles on the elliptical yesterday. Sometimes the gym is a welcome change and sometimes it is not..yesterday they had CNN blaring and I guess I was the only one annoyed. :confused3 Oh well. I got it done and did not waste any time leaving, headed to the health food store when, yep, someone rearended me at a light. Is it too much to expect someone to say "sorry" when they do something stupid like that????

Good morning WISH Team Mates.

Is it just me or has the forum picked up a notch since the ToT? It seems like we have more people joining in the fun. Before it might go hours before anyone posted now it goes all day, cool.

One reason may be that we learned a lot about each other:

From Kristi you learned not to listen to Robert about which band is going to be playing.

From Mike, Optimater, we learned what the Queen does on the weekends keeping her from posting.

From Bill we learned that it's ok to be a closet redneck.

From the 1000 mile challange we learned some of us can't add.

From Wendy we learned that going the Goofy distance is just a training walk.

From Jen we learned that pushing a stroller for 18 miles will build character.

We learned to let Vic set up the dinner parties.

From Jeanne you learned not to come to me for golf lessons.

From HockeyGirl we learned not to jump up from a big supper and go for a 5 mile run.

From Kristi, we also learned Goo is not just something you don't want to step in.

From all the pretty princesses we guys have learned that they stay one step ahead of us all the time.

Now I'm scampering off for a 4 mile walk.

I have to do a drive by since I am still in the Keys - leaving today. The weather has been nice. The NASCAR races were great and yesterday we just hung around the place we are staying. Got some great shots of the sunset (missed it Saturday and Sunday nights due to being at the race) Its been really peaceful and relaxing. I haven't gotten any running in but my shoulder/neck is feeling better - there is still some pain but not as bad as last. I have a Dr appointment tomorrow and I am kinda thinking of cancelling it since it doesn't feel that bad anymore (shoot its been a week since it started bothering me.

Oh well I am sure once I get home I will get all cought up since I have the rest of the week off as well. YEAH:cool1:

Yup, your DH tells the truth! :thumbsup2
They will be performing "Better Days" and "Stay With You."
They are kind of all over the place lately since the new album came out.

And yes, Dave - do NOT step on the Goo! :rotfl:

Good Morning guys!!!

So, the good news... C25K Week 6, Day 1 was successful!!! I'm sure I did get some crazy looks as I was running around our the parking lot, but I tried not to look at the folks driving in their cars! I also walked an additional 10 minutes.

The bad news...I am officially up 1lb! I know it's because of my eating. I think the pizza did me in. I was more active last week than the previous few, so it must be the eating...

So...For today. Hmmm. I brought my clothes to walk again, but my shins are sore today. I really want to aquacise, but I don't think Matt will get off work in time for me to make the class. So, today may be a rest day. I plan to get up super early tomorrow to get in Day 2 before work.

That's about all for now. It's supposed to be really pretty here today. Low 70s! Maybe I'll take a nice stroll outside during lunch...

Have a great day guys!!!
Stacie

Okay, so what is up with trading one pain for another? My ankle, which was causing issues, no biggie anymore--no pain whatsoever. My back, now, however is a different story. My lumbar region, just about as far as the spine extends, is screaming at me when I walk---What!!! I do NOT need this now--but I'm just hoping that it's just one of those strange phantom pains that will be gone by tomorrow. I was going to run 4 miles during the kids' naps today,b ut right now that's on hold. Ugh, with working, bday parties, Holidays, etc..my training has pretty much tanked! I really need to get that Marathon packet in the mail to brighten my day. Sorry for the downer post--but knew I could come talk to my WISH buddies!

Yup, your DH tells the truth! :thumbsup2

When Kristi finally does the Goofy will we be calling her the:

Goo Goofy Doll

There was a cartoon team on years ago called the Goo Goo Gophers. I think they were the lead in act for Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Feeling Wickedly Good Today Panda:hippie:

IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Unfortunately this banishes me to the TM in the basement but who cares!! IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Greetings all -

2.5 miles on the TM this morning while I finished "Million Dollar Baby". OMG what a movie!

Christa - Oh no! Bree! :wizard: I hope she's OK today. Scary!

Jen - Oh cool about your mom and I! :cool2: Yeah, I have something else to blame for my aches and pains. It's called "Gettin' Older". And yes you should be proud. :thumbsup2 Speed walking ain't for sissies!

Kristi - Ahh but I have discovered the beauty of walking facing traffic is I can see them coming! :scared: Oh man, you went to see Santa already? For someone who was all Miss I'm-Going-To-Start-Christmas-Shopping-In-August, I haven't done a thing yet!

Helen - Camber! :thumbsup2 Yes that's the word I couldn't think of. Oh, well, sooo, umm, who did you interview? (Say "Johnny Reznick" and see what happens.)

Colleen - I'm so glad I'm not the only one running down the middle of the street. ;)

Vic - If 2:47 isn't acceptable, then I'm a complete failure.:sad1:

Panda Who Makes Me Laugh -
From Mike, Optimater, we learned what the Queen does on the weekends keeping her from posting.

Wheeeeeee, I was afraid you had put a hit contract out on me. I almost got run over twice this moning. I was walking facing traffic but people coming out of side roads and turning right don't look right, they are watching the cars coming from the left and looking for an opening to shoot through. I had two heated discussions this morning. It ticks pandas off when you try to run over them, yes it does.

Glad the Queen is not mad at me, Panda:hippie:

I have a pain that is mostly shin related. However it has been known to travel up and down my leg and even switch legs as well. I never have more than one pain though so I can't complain too badly.

From all the pretty princesses we guys have learned that they stay one step ahead of us all the time.

PandaDave - And here I thought you had them in front on purpose just because you enjoyed the view. ;)

Judy - I will run down the middle of the road during the early morning runs. At night I tend to zig-zag to try and even out the amount of time spent on the banks. I have also found that if you run down the center of the road, you are less likely to be attacked by frogs, cats, and other wildlife that lurks to get runners.

Darn it Bill we didn't want them to know that. We don't want them to know that a pretty princess in exercise stuff is smoking hot.

Hi everyone!
Snowing in the illustrious state of Massachusetts. I would kind of like to be out in it running but I have to wait until after work. But it's been snowing more then they predicted so it might still be snowing when I leave.

WWDave: I truly hate intersections and cross-walks. The "right turn on red" is the worst. People just fly through those without pausing and I've nearly been hit countless times. As a driver, I really try to watch when approaching the crosswalks but sometimes I may not be as good as others. We need tunnels. That's it. If we had underground tunnels where all people could walk or run, no cars allowed, we'd be in good shape!!

Mike, aka Optimator: it is easier for me to find a route to kill 3 1/2 hours because I can run up and down streets and get the full time. If I try to run a specific mileage, it's more difficult to find the route, at least where I live.

princessrunner: what a very nice FIL to specially groom trails for you! Is he out there now since it's snowing up your way too? It's more seasonal today.

Stephanie: hope the back pain subsides! Now is definitely not the time to be getting new pain. Lots of ibuprofen and try an icy hot. I had some pain in my lower back but off to the side. It hurt when I transitioned from sitting to standing or vica versa. I put one of those patches on it and it really helped.

I'm supposed to run 30 minutes tonight. I rather hoped to stay out of the gym and am trying to do so at all costs. If the snow turns to rain, not sure what I will do. And I forgot my watch. There is a clock on the iPod so I'll use it. And I'll run a route that I know the time well. That should work.

Have a great afternoon everyone!
