Wk of Mar 5--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks for the article Lynne! Just proves I need to use my Palm program for monitoring calories and exercise. :(

I've been thinking about LIsa too! Hope all's well with you!!!

Good morning everyone Is it really Monday again???? :surfweb:

I took Friday as a rest day (to recover from Thursday's snow storm clearing efforts) but did a nice TM workout Saturday morning, then Sunday I did my LW and guess what? When I was done I thought "Hey, I could have kept going.". I was amazed by that. :thumbsup2

Today is a rest day too, as I am slowly switching over to the MFM schedule.

Ohh MDM.....I'm so sorry for your loss. I really mean it. I know how it feels, believe me. Prayers for you and your family.

Dana - Welcome! This is a fabulous group!

Hey, umm, Dave? How about a picture in those new running tights???? :rolleyes1 Hee hee. :p BTW, I got TKAM. To be honest this movie is getting on my nerves. For the first hour it's all about those annoying kids. Gregory Peck pretty much makes appearances. Then I have to say, if there is one thing I really abhor - it's prejudice. I didn't realize that's what this movie was all about. I haven't finished it yet since today was a rest day. I assume the end is the trial. Hopefully I'll get a little more eye candy, I mean Atticus.

Monte - I hope you feel better. :flower3:

Lisa - Thanks for the names list. I don't know why I didn't just make Judy my screen name. Probably because I didn't realize I'd be making actual friends on-line! :goodvibes

OMG Liz! OK I'm sorry but....HA HA HA HA HA! :rotfl2: Those coyotes were probably more afraid of you then you were of them. We often have them in the back yard. I think they are kinda cool. But I can see where they'd be frightening if you were out running. I'm usually looking at them from the deck.

Cam - Ha ha ha! Carrion! You crack me up! :lmao:

Mel - Wow! I think that's fabulous! You go girl! That's a great time! :worship:

Krista - What a good looking pup! What's his name? Cool tongue! (His, not yours. Hee hee.) :teeth:

Nancy - I don't know if this will help but last year my mare - who has Degenerative Joint Disorder - had hock injections (equivalent to human knees in her back legs) and she was like a brand new horse! It really turned back the clock for her. It didn't last forever but for several months she was a handful again. Remember we are here for you. Keep us posted.

Yeah, where IS Lisa??? :confused3

Judy

Good morning, everyone!! :sunny: Guess what, I'm not sore at all! :thumbsup2 I thought with lifting weights and doing different ab exercises, I would be very sore, but I feel fine. Okay, I got on the internet last night and looked around at some different running sites and I think I have IT band syndrome. Some of the symptoms of IT band syndrome are soreness on the outside of the knee to behind the knee and pain at the end of your run. Check and check. Causes of the IT band are: overuse and doing too much too soon and running on a crowned surface, such as on roads or a track. I took some time off from running after the 1/2 and just kind of jumped into my training again, so there's doing too much too soon, and if I'm not on a treadmill, I'm outside on the road (I ran on the road Tuesday when my knee hurt for the first time) and then I did my 5 miles on Saturday at the high school track. I've been icing my knee and taking ibuprofen and it feels fine right now, but I'm still going to take 3 days off from running and see if that helps.

Cam--Thank you for the compliments, Hines (tell Howard as in Ward :goodvibes ) is very smart, right now he's in obedience training and personal protection. He's doing great in both, but it is kind of hard to take him seriously in protection when he's barking at the trainer and playing tug of war, practicing his bites and his tail is wagging like crazy!! He's going to be very happy next week, when we get our fence!! Oh, and if you need a friend for Disney, I'd be more than happy to volunteer!! :teeth:

Judy--Don't you love his big smile! My puppy's name is Hines, he's 10 1/2 months old and we've had him since he was 9 weeks old. And if you can't tell (because I have a hard time figuring out breeds), he is a Labrador retriever, but Stephen calls him our Labrador reCEiver, because he's named after Hines Ward, a wide receiver for the Steelers. Hines is definitely my baby! How is your baby? Adjusting to life with you? :teeth: :rolleyes1

Carrie--Trust me, I'm not brave, and my Crocs are brown!! :lmao: I wore them Saturday night, they are very comfy, it actually felt like I wasn't wearing any shoes. I bought them for WDW, or any outdoor activity when I would normally wear gym shoes all day, I'm not big on wearing gym shoes all day, all the time, but my feet cannot take the World in sandals. I'm hoping Crocs are the solution! I'll let you know how they stand up when we go in May.

Nancy-- :grouphug: on your knees and training! I hope you are feeling better.

Dave--Pictures, we need pictures!! :woohoo:

I better get back to work; one of these days, I'm going to get caught!! ;)

My feet used to do just fine at teh world in sandals, but for some reason ;), not so good this last trip. I'm debating between crocs and those super duper hiking type sandals.

For those of you who wear crocs, I have a question -- do they provide a lot of arch support? I have taken to wearing my running shoes in the world so that I don't have problems with heel spurs again.

Krista -- are you up for a quick weekend trip? I have a studio at OKW and only one friend going. I am always up for company. I am just spending all day Friday at MK and watching DD17 march down Main Street that night with her marching band and spending a leisurely Saturday exploring every nook and cranny at EPCOT.

Any takers?

For all of you considering crocs, have you looked at keen's. They do have good arch support and i have actually replaced my birkenstocks w/ them b/c they are more comfortable. They also have odor resistant insoles and are waterproof. Check them out!!

Cam--I would love to go to Disney with you, but Stephen and I are going in May, October, and January. It would be a blast though!

Melissa--I got mine at Wild Oats. I told Stephen I felt a little funny buying shoes at a grocery store, but they had the color I wanted, so I bought them.

Okay, okay, back to work!! :rolleyes2

ACHOO!!!!

Last week's craziness has left me finally sick :( I was starting to feel it Friday so I laid low Saturday (save work) and rescheduled my long run for Sunday. That, of course, was not to be since I woke up feeling as though I had been run over by a four-wheeler and spent the day on the couch.

This morning I did manage to get some crosstraining in and I am heading home from work since there really isn't that much to do today. (Oh, and according to my boss, I am apparently a bit "cranky" )

I'm hoping I am on the mend tomorrow since the weather this week looks like it'll be great for running.... if only it would stop snowing today...

Happy training all!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Cam- I"m sooooo jealous! I wish I could come with you. That is so cool your DD will be marching down Main St. Take lots of pics & video. I guess I'll have to wait till May to "go home again"

Lynne-great article!

Yesterday I did 6.4 miles on the bike & then 775 yds swimming. Last week my swim coach had me do a pyramid workout. Not fun, but it was a great workout & I did it again yesterday.

This a.m. I did my 40 min & ST. I'm just glad I got to do it outside & not on the dreadmill.

Nancy-good to hear from you. Good luck with the doc. Do stick around even if your out of commission for a while. Since you live so close, you can still join us at Earl of Sandwich even if you cant do the Minnie!

Well off to pick up DS, go to Wal mart, pick up other DS, do homework, go to ball practice............. you get the idea! A typical day for Tiff :tilt:

Lynn-- thank you so much for posting that article. That was just the reality check I needed right now. I fall into so many of the pits that are described. I excersize insanely and have an even insaner appetite. I also fall into the "I deserve more" mentality. But I don't live more sedentary outside of my workouts. I always take the stairs at work (~16 flights per day) and play with DS as much as possible. But I really needed to get my mindset back on track. I've got this idea that I can eat far more than is true. The scale has been telling me that for about 6-8 weeks now. I've had a slow steady creep that puts me 5 lbs above my WW goal at present.

Jodi-- I'm sorry to hear about your loss. :grouphug:

Krista-- your baby is adorable!

MelR where are those pics? ;)

I found my new gym buddy :bounce: He's about 3' 10" and can't use many of the machines just yet... DS and I pretty much lived at the Y this weekend. I already told you about Friday night. Sat we did the family swim for 90 minutes. I was able to get in about 650 m of laps plus ~40 minutes of treading water while he jumped in the deep end WITH NO BUBBLES :thumbsup2 He was psyched.

Then on Sunday we went to the track and did jump rope and laps. I managed two (separate) laps at 1:57. A few weeks back I was doing .5 mile intervals on the TM at that pace (7.5mph). There's no way I could have done two laps in a row. But no biggie. We then went to the Y for more swimming and then he wanted to go in the nautilus/cardio room. So we did games with medicine balls, did dumb bell curls and then he did the rowing machine (quite well). He can almost ride a recomb. bike. One more inch... He also tried a vertical chess press and seated row. He looked so cute. He had me try my hardest, too. So I set the seated row on 140 lbs and managed two poorly formed rows. I thought it was funny that he has no clue his mom is a little "different" . As far as he knows all mom's can lift elephants :lmao:

And I'm so psyched that Mel found a website that can be set up for our WISH contributions to the National Kidney Foundation. I'll research and report.

I can't wait for my swimming lesson tonight. Three times int he pool and I already feel so much better than my first try. :cool1:

I'm currently at work trying to make something work. I have no clue what I'm doing. I'm ready to go bury my head in the sand :sad2:

Sunny

monte -- great job! Soon you'll either be addicted to the treadmill or dying to get outside in nice weather and take it even further.

Lynne -- I really appreciated the article, too, and am guilty of being almost completely sedentary other than when I am working out (mostly because if I am not working out, I am likely working -- UGH!) Getting up to go the water cooler or ladies room a zillion times a day or walking to and from the parking garage (2 city blocks each direction) is just not enough.

Sunny -- How great that you and DS were able to spend all that time together at the Y. Ours wont' allow kids under 14 anywhere other than the kids' rooms and the pool, so DS is looking forward to taking a "Fit Enough" class offered for 10 - 14 yr olds that get you a special lanyard to be in the fitness center at off-peak times.

So, Tiff, why can't you join me? How about you, Judy? Anyone? Bueller? . . .Bueller? Seriously, I am trying to talk myself into believing I can have an outrageously fun 2 days alone, but despite my advocacy skills (which my dear friend Liz would say I get paid "big bucks" for), I have not yet won my point. May have to go look at the EPCOT map and make a list of all the things I've never had the opportunity to do, like explore Morrocco, eat at the Tangerine Cafe, finally see Off Kilter, ride El Tiempo (how have I not done this?), explore the Guerlain counter in France and check out that perfume in Norway. Hmmmmm. . . . on recent trips I have finally seen the drummers and the candy lady and the tin toy museum in Japan and watched the acrobats in China and the comedy/balancing routine in France, and have had a glass of champagne in France. Seems there is still a lot there that I can do and keep myself occupied for a day. And I bet it's not quite so hard to get a viewing spot for one at Illuminations. Still . . . . . Bueller?

You TEMPTRESS! Ohhhhh! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! Come on, this isn't fair! WAAAAHHH! OMG you're list of things you want to do sounds SOOO great! Oh man...... There's no way I can go now. Oh man. Oh MAN! This is so not fair.

:sad2:

Judy....sulking and pouting.

Hey There Everyone: Wow, busy day for me at work. 3pm and this is the first time I've been at my desk.

Jodi - So sorry to hear about the death in your family.

Good job on your 4 miles. Is that the furthest you've ever gone?
Thanks Krista - Yeah, 4 miles is my furthest so far in this latest incarnation of my running. My knee's a little stiff today, but I think a rest day will help it. Your dog is very cute, and by the way - I am a huge, huge Steeler fan too from growing up in Pittsburgh in the 70's.

Lynne - that article was great, thanks for posting. The t-shirts were funny, a little risque though weren't they? Not sure if I could wear one of those running. Not sure, I would know how to explain some of them to my princesses...

Judy - you know, I don't have a digital camera. Which is silly because I always get CDs with the images of my pictures when I develop film. But I always have to wait for my film to be developed. Sorry, the movie is annoying you. I'll have to go back and watch it again. I can't say I remember much except that I liked Gregory Peck in it.

Dave--Pictures, we need pictures!!
Krista - Here you go!!!

Kevin - I hope you get over your cold quickly.

Tiff - Great workouts lately!!

Monte - WTG!! :thumbsup2 You've been really consistent with your workouts too!

Sunny - That's so great that you and your son had a good weekend at the Y. What a wonderful way to spend time together, and what a great example you're setting showing your son how important health and exercise is. Good for you. :thumbsup2

I've been lurking for a week and decided to jump in.

I'm so excited to be here and needed an outlet for my desires!!!

I'm 30 & 220 lbs (down from 250). I have a dream to jog/walk the 1/2 marathon in January and jog/walk the 10K in October.

I've been working out steady for the last week and can already tell a difference in my endurance. (No weight loss though - it will come.)

We have done a 3.5, 1, 3.5, and 4.5 mile walk/jog in the past week. I was soooo thrilled yesterday to do 4.5 miles and keep an 18 minute pace. I couldn't believe it! :woohoo: We work out together (DH and me) at our local park that is a nice workout becuase you wind around through woods, up a hill, and back down. It affords nice changes and the ability to walk and then jog a bit. The hills are actually getting easier over time and the ankle/knee pain is slowing down.

I want to do this! I want to job/walk the 10K adn the 1/2 marathon........

I'm here for support and to log my entries as we complete them.

Here's to a good run!

Dave - :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Love the pic!!

I have done nothing physical today except ride the bike around the block w/ the boy! It was pretty enough for us to go on a longer ride at the millitary park, but I am soooo tired!

Cingoutload - Welcome!!! Sounds like you are a great candidate for January! Come join us! WTG on your weight loss! That's an awesome accomplishment!

Kevin - Hope you feel better soon! Cranky? Boss used that term? :rotfl2:

Cam - I would so love to go with! Wish I could! I thought ds was going? I must have missed something. I know you'll have fun anyway!

Dave - Great pic!!! :teeth:

Hoping to get XT back into routine tonight. Depends on the speed of my stylist though. Best cuts I've eever had, but sooo slow.

Hi everyone! My name is Melissa and I'm training for the half-marathon in 2007. I recently got back from my trip and saw all the runners and it got me motivated to train for the 2007 half marathon. SoI have been training sinceanuary. This is my frist race ever... I was wondering if any of you past runners have any tips for the new comers for training?

Sure, Judy. . . . some friend you turn out to be. ;) Letting me wander around the world showcase all by myself  visiting the formal gardens in Italy (which I've never seen) -- oh, wait, now I get it! WHY should you go to Orlando to see the formal gardens when you'll be in Italy this summer!?? :teeth: I've also decided I have to visit the knave church in Norway and check out the marketplace in Mexico -- and that's just the start of my list. :cool1: Come on, isn't that tempting? And just think -- you have 3 weeks to make arrangements for someone to take care of Mist and the other sweeties in your life. :hourglass

Okay, I'm beginning to enjoy the planning process.

Dave -- Be sure to take good care of your knee. BTW, the picture had me :rotfl:

cingoutloud-- welcome aboard. You are doing great, moving right along to a certain finish way ahead of the sweepers -- you are already doing significant distances at a pace that is sure to improve, especially considering you are on somewhat challenging terrain. Congrats! :cool1:

Dave--You're cute!! Your picture made me :lmao: out loud!

Welcome Cingoutloud and Wbgirl! :wave2: Glad you found us!! There is a lot of wisdom on these boards!!!

Judy--I totally think you should go to WDW with Cam, strictly for research purposes only. :teeth:

Wow, I've been on here more today than I have for the past 2 months! Can you tell I'm bored at work? I've spent the last 2 hours trying to think of something to make for dinner. Anyone have any good suggestions? I fear Stephen and I may be eating veggie burgers!
