FYI...Ladies...

Just wanted to let you know that the WISH team will get a 20% discount from runningskirts.com for the month of April. They have the "Minnie" polkadot skirt (red w/ white dots) and even a maternity skirt!

There is a thread w/ more info on the main events board.

Stacie

Shan- bend over, because here comes the big kick in the okole (Hawaiian for your "backside"). Get some rest for that flu, and you'll do fine in the half.

Yeah :cheer2: to everyone out there walking, jogging, running, and getting in the repetitions. Keep it up!

FYI- I only post pictures from Hawaii, as proof to you snowbound mainlander's that the sun still exists. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! :rotfl2:

I will run 6 miles today after work. After last Thursday's run, our group decided to BBQ after tonight's run. We're doing Teriyaki burgers, and grilled veggies for those not wanting to be guinea pigs for "Mad cow" disease. :rotfl:Pau hana Tuesday, since no work on Wednesday.

OFF TOPIC: On Wednesday (Prince Kuhio's birthday, yes it's a State holiday) we're taking the family van for one last spin around the island, to use up the 1/2 tank of gas I still have. Good to the last drop. LOL.

We'll stop at Turtle Bay Resort to swim and hit golf balls at the driving range, jump in the ocean if small surf, have shrimp scampie at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck, and Matsumoto's Shave Ice. I pick up the new truck in the afternoon.

For those who are LOST fans, the show is filming just one block away from my office the last two days. This morning I saw two extras cast members walking by, dressed in their "Old school" military Navy uniforms.

I'll walk by there at lunch, and take some camera phone pictures (my regular camera is at home) of all the production trailers, and craft service tents. They've been filming all over the island since returning from the writer's strike. I previously have met Harold Perrineau (Michael), Jorge Garcia (Hurley), Daniel Dae Kim (Jin), and Michael Emmerson (Benjamin). Very down to earth people. My wife's co-worker's daughter goes to school with Matthew Fox's children (three degrees of separation).
That's it for now. Good training, and fun racing to all! :yay:

Christa - You are too kind, thank you. You just did 7:35mpm for 4 miles, what do you mean you can't sub 24 in a 5k :goodvibes: As far as a tri...I have to leave that one to you crazy people. I can run pretty good and I can bike pretty good, but I'd need to take some swimming lessons before jumping in a lake LOL Good luck with the taper madness...not much longer now..
WTG on the rest day...OK #1, There is not a kind bone in my body....You ROCK! It is just the truth and if I can Tri, anyone can. #2, my normal 5k pace has been 7:40...which has gotten me some "major awards" for 3rd in my AG, but no sub 24:00....my fastest is 24:00 on the dot...I think it is the hilly 5k courses I choose...my super fast 4 mile were on the greenway trails which only have minor hills....and I was running in throw up mode...so fast I thought I was going to throwup...NICE!

Angie - WTG on the run! You were flying!

Shan - Now this is coming from the non-tapering evil queen...but do as I say not as I do...rest and only run very little.....you will do great.

Betsy - there must be something in the air b/c I have been feeling the same way. I have been taking zycam (sp?) like crazy...and eating all my DDs chocolate bunnies when they are at school.:goodvibes Feed a cold...right?

Swam 1600 yrd today and I still smell like pool....yes I took a shower...Boy I am slow. When I tri to work on my form it seems like I just get slower. just glad the old old old lady (she couldn't even get out of the pool by herself) did not pass me. I did 1600 b/c that is about the dist my next tri will be. It took me 41 min...in a pool. I know an OWS will take longer than a pool swim. I may be the last one out of the water...at least I will have no trouble finding my bike....:rotfl:

Shan - Oh no, sorry about your stonker run! Be sure to rest, don't worry about running, and you'll be in good shape for your half!

Well folks, I got in 45 minutes of weights last night, 3.18 miles around the neighborhood this morning. It was another great run with no shin pain! 'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Thursday so I'm trying to get in what I can since I may be out of commission for a few days.

Betsy, I hope you feel better soon and it doesn't get worse! :wizard:

Jeff, did you have to kick me in the okole quite so hard? :lmao:

After today's run I have decided to not run again until maybe Friday and then just do a 2 mile run. After today's run I feel super tired all over again.

I'm definitely having a mental fight going right now. I can do this, I can do this...

ING Georgia runners - did any of you get your bib number yet? The email I got last week said they'd be emailing out our numbers before we go to pick up our packets at the Expo. DH and I haven't gotten anything yet... :confused3

Christa: I'm sorry to hear about your run. I think you're just getting it out of your system prior to the Tri. Taper trial, huh? And I know you're not being overly modest, just giving an honest assessment of your tri skills when you talk about swimming. But I know that even if you consider yourself a slow swimmer that you're going to kick booty on the biking & running portion of the tri!

Lily: Yeah for an easy mile outside. The fresh air must have felt great! (If brisk.)

Angie: Good pace for your run. :yay: Do I understand you correctly that you're running both the 5K and the 15K?

Bill: The ice cream was safe. DOOD's the big ice-cream fan in the family, and he gave me "the look." I got the message and slunk off for a cup of hot chocolate instead. Thanks for offering to fall on your sword for me, though! FWIW, I do think all birthdays--even those that won't be remembered--should involve ice cream.

Mike: Totally off the topic of your training, but have you had the PB&J shakes at the 50s Prime Time Cafe. Every time I read your recovery bagel & shake breakfast I think of those. Thanks a lot. :rotfl2:

Shan: Please focus on what you DID do. You ran. It wasn't easy, but you ran. That's determination, and the kind of strength you're going to take into your race. :cheer2: Don't get mad at yourself, get even. Take it out on the pavement during your race. I know you can....

Scott: Just what I need, to fuel my non-existent running with my favorite junk food. Hmm. I haven't tried that. It might work. :upsidedow After all, your popcorn strategy seems to be working for you. I just know your 1/2 is going to rock!

Stacie: 40 minutes on the elliptical is no small feat! And to know it comes from building up your running strength. You're doing so well! :cool1: And thanks for the discount code on the skirts, you temptress you.

Maura: I'm so glad you're getting some scenic & strenuous XT in. Better you than me. Just kidding--it sounds fabulous. Enjoy the hot tub, beer & reading (pleasure reading, I hope).

Betsy: I'm sending some get-well-before-you-even-get-sick PD your way for your Tri! pixiedust:

Jen: More snow??? Geez, I think you need a vacation. The Minnie, maybe? :lmao: I hope the heat isn't too much for you, but I know that you're strong & can handle almost anything.

SamSam: Back to back classes? Wow, your XT is intense.

Liz: I'm glad you're feeling better & had the opportunity for a little outdoor, lunchtime walk. That's sure to lift the spirits. I hope your after-work one was just as enjoyable.

Aloha Jeff: Congrats on the new truck & what a way to send off the old. Your holiday sounds like fun. And you just know your behind the scenes info about Lost pleases all of us Losties. Hurley's my fave, of course, because he says DUDE. ;) Also, congrats on your other good news. You're a very talented photographer.

Leana: Great job on the WOs. I hope your wisdom-teeth removal goes as smoothly & you have a pain-free recovery.

As for me: Everyone, thanks for your kind words & reassurances about my icky run. I don't know what I'd do without you all. Maybe drive myself crazy. (Or is that crazier?)

I didn't try to run today, but did my scheduled weight training. I did sneak a quick walk in Frick Park today, just see what the walking/running trails looked like. If the rain stays away I think I might be able to get out on some of the more well-trod areas this weekend! :woohoo:

I have been having such a hard time fitting everything I need to do into my crazy life. Working out has been getting the shaft, I'm sad to say. Not only have a gained a few lbs., I feel like crap! :sad2: So, I am going to re-commit myself to "me time." I am going to make sure I keep going to yoga, which is about all I've been able to get in lately. But I have to get more cardio in as well.

Tonight I got in about 40 mins. on the TM at the Y. How far did you go, you might ask? Well....someone hit the wrong button. One labeled "stop" and lost all her info!  So, I did about 40 mins. with a 2.0 incline. Somewhere over 2.5 miles.

I was kind of bummed. The gym is replacing the basketball court floor with hardwood. Great for the basketball players. Not so great for people with asthma that use the track that surrounds the court. The wood smell alone forced Chad out of there. I didn't even try since I knew the asthma would go haywire in there.

I have the Great Bay half in a week & a half and it ain't going to be pretty.
But, I will walk it and finish it! As long as I am not DLF, I will be happy.

Bill - we had a Nemo party for Zack's first birthday. Goldfish crackers, blue jello with a swedish fish on top, etc. It was very cute! We gave the kiddos beach pails with some dollar store water toys in them for favors. I went totally overboard with the 3 year old Peter Pan party. But it was very cool. If you have any ideas for a 5 year old party - let me know. I'd love to do a rock star one, but Zack's insisting on Power Rangers. He's never even seen a Power Rangers show! Weird.

Leanna - good luck with the wisdom teeth! When I had mine out - it was very uneventful & not painful at all. I am wishing the same for you!

Judy
- I never did get any thank you for volunteering thing-a-ma-bob.

KRISTI - THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING!!!!

How does that make you feel?? I really liked seeing you at Mile 2!!!!

Carrie - excellent run!

Judy - welcome back to asphalt - your Asphalt? My Asphalt? Tag Fairy's Asphalt? :lmao:

Maybe that one was obscure.....

- Jeff

Ditto! :teeth:

Maura, what XT you’ve got going there!

Angie, you are having some great runs!

Bill, good luck with planning that party. Amazing how fast the year went. Party planning: give him chocolate cake that he can have for himself, put one drop cloth under the high chair and take plenty of pics!

Mike, you are really putting in the time. Good for you!

Shan, don’t worry--restly, you will do fine! I can’t wait to read your race report cuz I can feel the excitement already!

Scott, sounds like you’ve got your taper on.

Stacie, great progress. Lunch packing—good idea too esp since it means more vaca $$$.

Betsy, stay well.

Jen, sorry you are stuck training indoors. Me too. At least it is warmer inside and maybe will help since FL will be hot by any of our standards. (That didn’t work to convince me training indoors is fine.) Never mind that I said that. WISHing you can get outside soon.

Liz, hope you get rest tonight and that your walk was good.

Jeff, sounds like you’ve got the right spirit. Run then party! Enjoy your holiday.

Christa, So the swim is a slow warm-up for you. Once you’re on your bike and on your run, you will be smoking everyone.

Leanna, here’s PD that the extraction of wisdom goes smoothly and as pain free as possible.

Debra, good job on XT and the checking the outdoors for your future trekking. I hope it will work for your training there.

Kristi, sorry to hear about the flooring that will affect your asthma. Will that be always and will you be needing to find another place to w/o? Good for you to re-commit to you. That is important for your health and sanity!

ING Georgia runners - did any of you get your bib number yet? The email I got last week said they'd be emailing out our numbers before we go to pick up our packets at the Expo. DH and I haven't gotten anything yet... :confused3

Shan - Got the e-mail this evening, so I'd look for it real soon if you haven't received it already :goodvibes:

We jammed 6 miles in just over 1 hour, the sand route through Waikiki Beach.

I had to get back and fire up my grill and do the cooking. About 10 of us stayed to dine on Teriyaki burgers, Teriyaki meat sticks, grilled eggplant, Spanish rice, and macaroni salad. So basically, with 4 bites, we negated the entire run. :rotfl2:

There was an incredible sunset while we were cooling down from our run. Unfortunately, my camera was at home. Oh well, next time I'll post another crappy photo of the sun setting over the ocean. LOL, dream on everyone! :rotfl:

Our group enjoyed it so much, we decided to BBQ every last Thursday of the month (not to include this Thursday).

We used to picnic on the last Friday of every month, in celebration of that month's birthday honorees, but we gave that up. Too bad because we watched the Hilton Hawaiian Village's weekly fireworks on those nights (it always reminds me of a shorter Disney fireworks show).

Everyone enjoy their Prince Kuhio holiday off on Wednesday. I'll think of you all from the North Shore...

of Jeff.

Hawaii is awesome; we will be in Kauai (where I think the prince was born) for two weeks in June so I have already written the training hours I will need to do in my calendar, since that will be about a month before the triathlon....looks like I will be renting a bike on the garden island!

So jealous for Prince Kuhio day...like the Hawaiian Mardi Gras...oh, and that you are in HAWAII!!!!

I'm off for my 45 minute swim and 35 minute run...thanks for the encouragement everyone..I'm grooving on the WISH boards!

Kristi, sorry to hear about the flooring that will affect your asthma. Will that be always and will you be needing to find another place to w/o?
I think once all the construction settles, I will be fine. Just all that fresh cut wood, you know? And my asthma has been bad lately, so I didn't want to aggravate it more.

Thanks for the thanks about volunteering you guys! :goodvibes
Honestly, it's not a big deal. I just have to give Judy a hard time about it since she teased me for over a week wanting to know if I got "something" in the mail... Although it would be neat to have the certificate thingie to put in my scrapbook. Oh well!

Tonight is yoga - hope it's the easier instructor.
Still feeling it a bit from Saturday morning's class.

Hello Team...wow...I have to say I'm so impressed with reading everyones' daily reports of all the running, walking and cross training. You guys are an inspiration. Thanks! :goodvibes

Kristi: OMG...yoga makes you sore too? It kicks my butt...literally! If I take another instructors yoga class I can feel the sore muscles for days! Good for you for getting it in twice a week though. Are you finding it is helping your running?

Jeff: Ok now ;)....you are REALLY trying to make us all jealous aren't you? Well...ummm....I'll take my camera out and get a picture of the bare and desolate trees, snow still laying around and....dead leaves. That'll show ya!!! OK..kidding...I LOVE seeing your pictures....you are convincing me that I need to visit Hawaii VERY soon!

Deb: Good job getting the strength training in! :thumbsup2 Do you do a full body session each time or just arms and then legs another day? I'm trying to add two days a week of strength work in now..wherever I can squeeze it in. I'm only using free weights. Would love to hear what your program consists of. Thanks!

Christa: GREAT job with 1600 yard swim. Gosh...the swimming thing is really making me nervous. I mean...I won't drown...but I just don't know if I can do very well! THANK YOU for helping me feel better about it (on the tri thread) because it's holding me back from registering for this tri. I need to stop being a chicken and just do it! Hang in there with the taper!

Scott: You're a beast. WTG on one heck of a crazy workout weekend.

Stacie: THANK YOU for getting the runningskirts discount!!!!

Leana: PD for the wisdom teeth!!!

Angie: Solid run girl :). I can't wait to say "hi" to you at the Minnie. I'm so excited for you...I think it's going to be a GREAT race for you!!!!

As for me....Let's see...Monday is my normal rest day but I still have to teach 3 classes  . So I guess it's not really that much of a rest day. But...I do rest from cardio...so not much to report. Yesterday I taught a Spinlates class....well the "lates" portion of class. What a great format....30 minutes of spin and 30 minutes of Pilates. GREAT combo :). I taught an additional class and worked out on the elliptical as well...so overall a very good day of exercise. Today is a scheduled 5 Miler...hope it goes better than Sundays run! I think I'll do my strength training and some Pilates as well to round out the day.

Have a great one! :sunny:

Debra - Sorry about teh stonker. I had mine Monday. Hope your next run is better!

Scott - Popcorny goodness? :rotfl: Love it!

Lynnda - Good luck with the party! Shall we distract Bill so he doesn't "help"? :rotfl: An old movie had a song iwth the chorus of "Some kind of help is the kind of help that helping's all about and SOme Kind of Help is teh Kind of help...we all can do without." I have to sing it for Scott sometimes. :p

Bill - FOrgive me. Your comments on teh party just had me thinking about some of Scott's help. I'm sure you're a great help! :)

Shan - SO glad the fog has lifted. COntinue to rest and drink plenty of fluids and you will be ok!

Christa - How's your mom?

Jen - We had flurrie syesterdy and are due for snow tonight. WHat an awful winter. FYI - Those TM runs will help. WHich reminds me, I need ot get my TM time in again. Just can't resist when the bike path is runnable.

Kristi - Hope the gym air clears soon! BTW, thanks for volunteering!!!

Jeff - Sorry, I can't look at your posts ot respond. The pix are just too hard for me to take, evn if they are for our own good. ;)

Maura - Sounds liek you are gettign quite the work outs. FYI, I wouldn't come back too soon. Extend that good weather as long as possible!

Well, Monday's 40 min stonked big time! Was way sore and stiff from Sunday. I finished, though. Yoga helped.

Chi people - Th emiddle of my back hurt Monday from SUnday. Could it just be because my back is not used to being upright? COuld not find a reason for it in teh book. I know my shouldres were not too far back, I am a chronic sloucher. Oh, only 26 pages to go. I think I can finish before my Saturday workshop! It's supposed ot make sure we have the feel for when we're doing it right. I'm really looking forward to it.

My RR from the Urban Dare last weekend is on the RR thread now. It's long, and probably has too many local references to be very interesting to most people, but hopefully it gives an idea of how the race is set up and how much fun it is, in case the race comes to your area and you want to try something new.

And...I don't think there is a pace requirement! ;)

Hi all,
I did a training 3 miles this morning (this training is for the Minnie) 3 miles in 43min 20sec. Not to bad and wasn't trying to force anything in my walk. Still trying to concentrate on form.
I think I will try some small hills at a park on my way home within the next few weeks. Where I walk it is VERY flat and I need alittle bit of hill work, so that way I am not dying with the overpasses on the Minnie 15K course. I know how those last 3 overpasses on the Disney Half can mentally get you at the end.
Here it is 68 degrees and I think it is the last "cool" spell for South Florida. I enjoyed wearing my WDW Half Long sleeve tech shirt this morning.:)

Here I am:
me032608a.jpg

I'm in my backyard. In the background is a Purple Martin birdhouse and there are at least 4 nests in there. They are cool little birds with beautiful songs. They sing alot first thing in the morning and later in the evening as the sun goes down.

Good training to everyone!!!

Happy Wednesday!

Just a quick update and I'll catch up on everyone's antics later today.

Did a 4.33 mile walk yesterday in 70 minutes! I know that's slow but I'll take it (for now ;) ). Some small hills and lots of wind, felt good afterward. Only minor shin pain about 15 min in but stretched and massaged it out and never came back.

Going to get in another 4 miles after work tonight and hoping for same result. (well actually hoping for improvement but that's me...expecting too much too soon).
