Wk of Mar 23 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Congrats Krista love the pics. Technology can be marvelous! :goodvibes

Mike - WTG on your run, you should do great at your 1/2 Tri :cheer2:

I did my 9 miler, it actually turned into 9.8 because I misjudged my turnaround point. It's my longest to date! My overall pace was 14.3, slow compared to many here, but I felt good about it. Now, I know for sure I can finish the Minnie 15K and not get swept. Wahoo! I have all of you to thank, without the support on these boards I would have talked myself out of the whole race thing. :thanks:

HI Team  HAPPY EASTER!!!

Krista: OMG...how cool of you to share your ultrasound photos! What an exciting time for you both. :goodvibes

SamSam: WOW...GREAT run :). You have to just be SO proud of yourself. That distance is really a huge accomplishment. WTG!

Mike: NICE run! Very good pace for 6.3 :) Seems to me you can't be too out of shape!!!

Today was my scheduled 8 mile LR. The weather was blustery and cold. UGH! WHERE IS SPRING??? OK...'nuff of that rant. Aside from that the run hurt from the first step. Just wasn't a good run...felt like I was trying to power through each mile :(. My Chi Running principles went down the tubes and I was just not able to get into a comfortable rhythm. The first three miles were quick (for me) at sub 27 minutes but it still just felt really wonky. My shins hurt, my calves hurt, my feet hurt...you get the idea :(. Anyway....I scrapped the 8 miler and turned around at 3.2 and headed back. I managed to finish 6 TOUGH miles in 55:30 which on paper is a perfectly fine Sunday run. But wow...did it HURT! I'm just glad it wasn't a truly LONG LR day. And training for the Minnie gives me lots of wiggle room if I can't make the week's mileage. Thankfully. I hope everyone had a great day! Take care and happy training!

Good Evening all!

So I did my longest yet today... 5 miles! I did a run/walk and walked more than I liked, but my Garmin kept beeping telling me my heart rate was too high so DH made me walk when it did that. It averaged 177 bpm and maxed out at 187 bpm. My pace was super slow... 14:43 average to be exact. I think someone posted not being hydrated enough may cause your HR to be to high, so I'm hoping that's it...

Hope everyone has had a lovely Sunday!!!

Krista...Thanks for sharing the pics!!!

Stacie

WTG Krista And Steve! Love the pictures.....

OK, yes I am out of the loop...Jen, did you run Goofy Preg? Did you know you were preg?

Amy, don't worry about the run...sometimes you just have a bad run.

Mike, AWESOME pace! Is that tri a 1/2 IM?

SamSam you are doing great...that is an awesome pace for a LR!

Hope everyone is doing great! I am gearing up..or down, for my tri on Sat...Wed, I ran the fastest 4 miles I have EVER run...I am excited...4 miles in 30:18...that is a 7:35 MPM:woohoo:
Pray for my family while I taper...you know I don't do well with tapering.

Krista - LOVE the pics! And love the name Carter Stephen as well! :thumbsup2

No training to report, but I am taking Craig's advice on calories not counting today! :rolleyes1

Hey WISHERS...

Good job on the training to all those who got out there this weekend.

I went out for a 2 mile warm up before the clinic. I got back and listened to the Doc's talk, then led 16 people out for a 8 mile run. We kept at steady 9:30 per mile pace, and everyone made it back with a smile, or forced smile on their face. 10 miles total for me, and it felt good to stretch the legs.

Questions arose from the group about whether or not to eat before a run, speed work, and hill work. Also what to drink after running (Gatorade or Chocolate milk). I answered based on my previous years of training techniques that has gotten me through races.

We went for a test drive yesterday, and ended up signing on the bottom line for a new truck. It was time to trade in the family van. I pick up the new wheels on Wednesday (by the way, it's Prince Kuhio day, another Hawaii holiday for us).

Our tech/tshirt/hat supplier came out with a green tech hat, not quite WISH green. I was tempted to buy it, but my Queen would have frowned upon yet another hat to wash. LOL. :rotfl:

Christa: Yeah on that pace!! :thumbsup2 Take it easy with the tapering off or we'll have to do something drastic!!

SamSam: You go girl!!! I am sooooo excited for you!! You are going to make it, I can't wait to see you cross the finish line!! 14.3 pace is great for the distance and everything. I did a 14.3 today doing a 5mile LW (long walk). (I was concentrating on form and arms movement from my lesson I had) You can only get better from here. Its great you have that under your belt. :yay:

Krista - Thanks for sharing your US photos with us. We don't mind you sharing at all. I  living vicariously through you. My baby days are long gone, so I love hearing all about it. Love the name Carter Stephen too.

Stacie - yes, someone responded to me that dehydration may have been my problem with my too high heart rate. I learned today that if I run more than 45-50 minutes, I should bring water with me. Hope you can get that regulated soon. 5 miles is HARD, isn't it! :scared1:

Have a great week WISHers!!!!

Krista...on the bottom pic...baby's head is to the right and body to the left. :goodvibes What a cutie! They always are at that age! :lmao:

Congrats to Jen, too! What a story you will have to tell the little one!

I had a crazy weekend, athletic-wise....flew from Alaska to TX overnight Friday, and did the Urban Dare race on Saturday at noon, 3 hours after my plane landed! y'all, the Urban Dare race was SO MUCH FUN!! I will try to get a RR up soon. We came in 6th out of about 80 teams. :thumbsup2 Look for one in your area: www.urbandare.com

Happy Easter!

Pray for my family while I taper...you know I don't do well with tapering.

yes, it is a 1/2 IM...the training plan said that you should have a couple sprint/olympic distances under your belt, but I did a full duathlon (5mi run, 40 mi bike, 5 mi run) last summer on a REALLY hot day (but the 20 mph wind in your face for all 40 miles made up for it) in JUST over 4 hours...I missed my goal by about 15 seconds since I cramped in transition 2 and lost 3 minutes

Anyway I figured that since every triathlete there said that tri's were easier than duathlons, I should jump in with a huge goal (at least it's huge for me!) I've always worked hard, but no one has ever accused me of being too smart...:lmao:

Good LORD, 7:35 pace for 4 miles; I managed my first mile in about 7:40, but every step was one I wished was the last...I think I overdressed for the weather (30 degrees and windy), and sweat was just pouring off me. Frankly, I don't know what I could have worn differently, I had on an UnderArmor Cold long sleeve top, a cotton long sleeve shirt, underarmor full length underwear and running shorts....

Sometimes, it seems like you just need to gut out the run...thats what today was...and I STILL have about 30 hours off...Double tumbler of Dewar's Scotch anyone?:)

Where is your Tri on Sat?

Mike

So KRISTA and STEPHEN, what nickname is young Carter going to have? Cart? Car? Cartie? Little C?

Oh my gawrsh, it was hard dragging around all that chocolate in my tummy today for four miles on my run. Tasted good goin' down, but...

- Jeff

Debra - Thanks for the Easter wishes! You were very creative with all of the team threads doo...a virtual spewing of creativity...and yay! no shin pain for you on your run. Nice work!

AlohaJeff
- Congrats on the truck! Sorry to see the weather and scenery has been so nasty out there..really hoping that some clear days and beautiful sunsets find their ways to you soon. :rotfl:

Dave
- Nice to see you on the thread? How is the training coming along? I know you were battling through some injuries...let us know!

Big Vic
- While I don't know much about the guns...I do know that three runs and some weight work constitutes a good week!

Stephanie
- GL with the allergies. I think anything we do differently than normal affects muscles we don't usually use...hope you are feeling better!

Craig
- Sorry to hear about the run...at least you got some steps in though. Shake it off and move on to the next one :) Hopefully there is no more wallpapering in your future!

Shan
- Feeling any better?

Sam - Great pace on the walk!! You will do just fine at the Minnie!

Krista - Thanks for sharing the photos!! What a great little bunny..er..boy you have there! And keep the posts about you...we like hearing how you are doing :goodvibes:

Stacie
- 5 miles..awesome!! Don't worry about the pace...and don't stress over the HR. You'll see it come down as you continue to work out.

Krista - 7:35...holy smokes!! Niiiiccee run!

Mike - Ditto... Nice run!!

Betsy
- Urban Dare...HOW COOL!! Would LOVE to read a RR from you in regards to it. Hey AMY..Urban Dare...*nudge*

Jeff
- You are supposed to run BEFORE the chocolate :)

Amy - Well after some nice tempo and weekly runs, it was bound to happen that the aches and pains would spoil a LR. Great pace though, even through the cold and windy day. I hope you recover well (EASY on the pilates tomorrow, buddy) and that the upcoming week is a good one for you. I'm off to go find us an Urban Dare to run (oh look...there's one in Atlanta *nudge*)...

Scott's World
- Well, I had a very productive weekend. I PR'd my 5k on Saturday morning by finishing with a 23:46. It was a solid run for me and I was most proud of not walking for the entire thing...a first in my book. A few hours after the race, I completed 20 miles on the bike in just under 70 minutes. This morning I got out in the chillier than normal temps and logged an 8 mile long run. My legs definitely felt the Saturday activity, but the tighness seemed to ease up about 3 miles into the run.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and best WISHes for the week ahead!

Happy Easter WISH Team. I've got my work cut out for me tomorrow. I really over did my eating. I knew it would be a lost day. Hopefully tomorrow I can put in some steps to offset it a bit.

Jeff, I do love your pics.

Krista and Steve, I love your little boy pics! I know that was a fantastic experience.

SamSam, great pace for the first time at that distance! Faster than me for sure!

Stacie, good job staying on target with yor HR and good pace too! Don't worry, your pace will pick up in time, just keep at it.

Christa, praying for yor family, you know you can come here too since you'll be in taper madness. You'll have more time maybe for your WISH Team family. We'll take the heat off the family.

I thought you might enjoy what we woke up to on Saturday.
We got about 7 inches of beautiful snow. (I can say beautiful since I was able to stay indoors and enjoy the view.)

Stacie

Catching up from last week:

Krista adn Steve - COngratulations!!!!

Allie - I usually don't take any extra "food" (usually Gu) until I do more than 6 miles, tehn I take it about every 4 miles (or every 45 min). However, it would have helped you, as you went out on empty. Congrats on teh 5-miler. That most certainly is a long run adn you should be proud!

Lynnda- Good plan on the training. Hoep that PF gets banished for good! :wizard:

So, we were supposed to do ur LR Friday, but had 4 or 5 inches of snow on top of ice, so it was a no go. We both have stuffy heads still, so indoors is extra hard. We got home around 5 yesterdya and went out a little after 6. It was suppoed to be an 8-miler, although we had only done 2.5 run adn 2.5 walk for our 10. We decided we'd see how we feel and do no more than 8 , as it had been over a week since we last tried to run. First 2 miles were iffy. I think I was afraid I had lost a lot of strength. After that, though, I loosened up. We did 8 and my pace was only about 13 seconds slower than a few weeks ago when I had a great 8-miler. Plus, I was on neg splits mostly after mile 2, with a super speedy (for me) last mile. 10:40!!!! I was thrilled. A little tired today, but not bad. I'll run again tonight adn that will help me feel ready for Martian in 2 weeks.

GOOD MORNING TEAM & HAPPY BELATED EASTER!!!!

Sorry I went missing again.. But the good news is that while I was missing I got soooooo much done around my house (I was off work on Friday) so I don't feel quite as overwhelmed as I have for a long time.

Anyway on the training front, I did my long run Friday evening because I was not going to have time the rest of the weekend. I am STILL not where I want to be, I did 8.3 miles in 83 minutes.

Sorry I am so behind again but I do want to say:

JeninGA CONGRATULATIONS!!! FROM YOU WISH TEAM!!
Krista&SteveCONGRATULATIONS!!!! BOYS ROCK!!! I HAVE 2 AND LOVE THEM TO DEATH.

OK have to get to work, be back later.

Greetings Race Team -

Guess what??? I did my "Coming Out of Hibernation Run" on Saturday and did it ever feel good!!! I did five miles in the sunshine and all things considered, my splits weren't that bad. :woohoo: It felt so good to be MOOOOVING!!! Oh yeah! I need more asphalt time! Yay!! :cool1:

MSDave -

Krista and Steve
- Oh my goodness, how exciting! :yay: I am so happy for you guys! Carter Stephen is a wonderful name! I know you would have gone with Judith Anne if things were different. Maybe next time. Hee hee. Oh and stop it now! You're a WONDERFUL team member and we love you guys! Can't you tell????

Aloha Jeff - Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2 My geography of the islands is very limited since I was your typical tourist and only went to Oahu. Very cool pics!!

Vic
- I have a concealed weapon....Oops, can't talk about that here. :upsidedow

OMG Christa is tapering! Everybody! Run! Ha ha ha! :lmao: Just teasing you Christa! I'm so happy to see you here!

Umm, Hello, KEVIN? Where's my RACE REPORT?!?!?!?! popcorn::

Lily - Ohh deck pictures. You know me and decks right now. ;) Oh please please please no more snow!!!

Dh has decided that he and I will run the Animal Kingdom Adventure Race for our anniversary! I am SO excited. I had been afraid to even ask if he wanted to do it since we are going to Disney for a week at Thanksgiving and then I am going back for Goofy. Dh and I had this whole HUGE "discussion" about how I can't just sign up for races without thinking about the additional costs (airfare, hotels etc.) I told him all about it and he was like "no more races this year."

Then a running buddy of mine told Dh that he and his wife were going to do the adventure race. DH had the nerve to act like he had never heard of it. Anyway, my buddy really sold the idea to dh and so I am signing us up.

Good morning WISHers.

Today we can officially blame anything we want to on the Tag Fairy. Skunky workout, yep, tag fairy's fault. Traffic on the way home today, yep, Tag Fairy did it.

Lily you have liquid sunshine? It's spring right? You are only a few hundred miles north of us.

Everyone have a wonderful day
