Wk of July 27 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I hope your evening is going along smoothly. I am here to report my training for today.

I ran after work, so I didn't have much energy and I didn't have time to eat lunch today so I was runnin' on empty.

Miles: 5
Time: 46:34
Pace: 9:18

Splits:
9:36
9:47
9:01
8:57
9:11

With all of the working out Cam :lovestruc   :flower3: :cloud9: is doing, it's a wonder I ever see her (or see her awake). I am really proud of her work ethic and her progress. She is certainly a beacon for us all.

Have a super-fantastic evening!

:grouphug:

Howard

Good morning everyone. Well Wednesday is my day off and I miss so much here when I do not turn on the computer!! Glad to see that everyone is abuzz with marathon plans. Makes me a little jealous but soooooo happy for you all!!

Howard: You continue to rock! Your runs are stellar. :thumbsup2

Angie: Totally agreed with Debra's statement. You are an achiever not an over achiever. Some people have drive toward their goals and others work to attain it. You are definitely a driver :drive: as are many others on the boards. It is all in your perspective of the race and your inner makeup. If we all had endurance coaches, it would be a perfect world for everyone!! In the past, I pushed too hard and too fast and I ended up with PF which took me a long time to get over. I feel I have now built up a good enough base to keep myself healthy. I hope that you can do the same. I do like the training plan where you do 12 miles also, I felt really unprepared for the January half by only doing 8 as I got sick and had a forced early taper. Keep working toward your goal and remember to listen to your body along the way.

Jackie: Yay for you!!! :woohoo:

GAJen: I like Miles and I am pretty okay with the S's running together. Best of luck!!

Krista: Great to see you back on the boards. How is Carter (and you and Steve) adjusting to life??

Leanna: I am starved after a long run. I find that eating something high in protein immediately after my water helps out a lot. I usually just grab a Promax bar or sometimes I put some protein powder in my Accelerade (thank you Vic). It helps curb the munchies.

David: Welcome to the boards!

Debra: I was going to do the YouBars but then I found the Cliff Mojo bars and I really like the taste of those. I may still consider the YouBars in the future. I did go to the site and saw the many choices you had to put in the bars. Have you made any WDW ressies for October yet? We are at the under 3 month mark!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Cam: I don't use the scale either. I go by the way my clothes fit me more. I find that with weights, I am reshaping but not so much losing. Once I grasped that concept, the scale did not bother me as much as it did at first. And 100 crunches and 125 pushups...:scared1: :scared1: my DD13 does not do that much and she is a competitive gymnast!!

Kristi: Great job getting back on the track. I am glad to hear that it felt good!!! :goodvibes

Everyone else: Whew, I just can't do it. I gave it my all but now I am done!!! I hope everyone's training is going well!!!

As for me, I am in total taper now. Today is my last 3 miles before the race. I ran 3.1 yesterday in :29:35 which made me very happy. Maybe this under an hour goal will work after all. :confused3 I usually have a couple really good runs before a race and then things go bad from there so I am not totally convinced yet. I do have a better base built at this point so maybe the experts know what they are talking about???? :rolleyes1 I will be gone until Monday so my feeble attempt at keeping up will continue from there. Have a great day everyone and keep on moving!!! :yay:

Have you run Kiawah? This isn't a slam against walkers, but sometimes they are walking 2-3 abreast blocking the path. They don't hear you coming up behind them if they have the Ipod's going. But I sort of like it, adds a little stress and keeps my mind active and not thinking about the pain :)

Cecilia: You're back! Yay! :cool1: And in training. How did your tri go with your BIL--you did that already, right? And your DH competed too? (Or am I off base about things.)

Oh that? We won first place.
Okay that was me trying to play it cool - now for the real response:
 We won FIRST place! (edit: first place in our division) Mostly thanks to the fact that my BIL is an amazing swimmer and daredevil bike rider. It was an individual start based on your predicted swim time and he started ahead of some of the pros! So I took off running with the pros and elites. Very humbling experience but amazing too. And WE WON!

I think Miles is a great name, with an awesome connection for you, but it's not over the top obvious. I don't think Miles Smith sound bad together either, I just said out loud about 5 times and the double S wasn't noticeable at all. Of course, I am sleep deprived, so take it for what it's worth!
I agree with Krista and I am not sleep deprived. Although I would trade about 20 minutes of sleep to hold baby Carter! I was trying to hold my DD12 while she was sick, and it was hard to believe she once fit in my arms perfectly. I ended up having to call the nurse for a wheel chair for her because I just can't lift her anymore. At least once a day take a deep breath and create a memory of holding your baby while he still fits perfectly in your arms.

i did it...

I JUST REGISTERED FOR THE FULL!!!!

What the heck was I thinking?

Jackie
Its going to be SO much FUN!!! and you get this amazing medal to take home with you! and for the rest of your life you can say " oh yeah, I ran a marathon" (although if you can get it out sounding 'ho hum' you are doing better than I am.) Yeah Jackie! Welcome to the insanity!

Krista -- It is so nice to see you here! Can't wait to meet Carter. Are you guys still planning to come to Marine Corps?

Jackie -- :woohoo: I am so proud of you! Just signing up for the marathon is a HUGE mental undertaking and the sign of commitment to the training that it takes. It is even more significant if you do it on an informed basis, as you are. Some people don't know what it takes to get to the start, much less the finish. The fact that you do and you STILL signed up is awesome!!
Looking forward to sharing your training progress!

Cecilia -- Congrats on your tri!! :woohoo:  party: :yay: :cheer2:

Lisa -- Enjoy the taper and have a fabulous race! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes Oh, and thanks for the encouragement about the scale. I've totally given up on it.

After this week's insane workout schedule AND being WAYYY under my daily points and having used NO weekly points, there was NO movement on the scale at my weight watchers weigh in this morning. My plan? A delicious sub for dinner tonight and a wonderful Sunday brunch at a really special restaurant on Sunday. :goodvibes

By the way, I am torn between congratulating Howard on his awesome runs and wanting to kick his butt for pushing WAYYYY too hard too frequently. UGH!

Need advice.
Yesterday, my personal trainer and I did a LOT of lower body work and I am really, really feeling it in my quads today. It's been a long time since something really HURT after a walk or run or race or even a personal trainer session. So, my questions are many:
1. Is it okay for my quads to be so sore? I kind of like the pain as an indicator of how hard I worked and almost as a baseline for next time (i.e., it should hurt less and less each time), but in reality, is it okay?

2. What do you suggest for the pain? I used ibuprofen before my "run" this morning. I usually take aleve for any kind of ache or pain, but decided to try something different to see if it helped. What should I use? AND, do you think ice is a good idea? BTW, the workout is very early a.m. and I grab a shower at the gym and then come to work, so no time for a cool bath.

3. I just couldn't run this morning for the 3 miles I'd intended. Instead, we did 2 miles of something like W3/R1-2 with an overall pace of about 14:45 (OUCH!!!) I really thought it was important to take it easy today in favor of my long run this Saturday. Was that the right decision?

It's interesting. I've had aches and pains from bad form or improper shoes or strain, and I've certainly experienced my share of soreness when I've done a different kind of workout or upped the weights, but I can't remember when I've had pain from strengthening. I guess I just want to make sure it is okay and normal and not potentially de-railing. So, of course, I am looking to my teammates for their expertise and guidance. :grouphug:

P.S. Ladies, take my advice. Heels are NOT a smart idea when you have quad pain. Oh, and steps aren't either. ;)

By the way, I am torn between congratulating Howard on his awesome runs and wanting to kick his butt for pushing WAYYYY too hard too frequently. UGH!

Cam...You congratulate him with a big 'ol smooch! :lovestruc and We'll kick his hiney! lol! :goodvibes

Stacie

Thanks for the naming advice everyone! Miles is definitely on our short list! Although probably not Miles Gu Smith... Hopefully I'll stop being such a pain soon...

On the electrolyte/salt topic from awhile back:

It's so obvious I feel silly bringing it up, but make sure you try out anything new before your race. I bought a big thing of Electrolyte tablets and left them on my office desk for a month before the Goofy. I finally tried one for maybe a 6 miler. I felt fine, but it wasn't a real LR, you know? So both mornings of the Goofy I looked at this big bottle and ended up not taking them because I was afraid I'd have some weird reaction! (And then did the same thing with the salt packets I'd swiped from the hotel). So learn from my stupid newbie mistake.

Jackie- you go, girl! I'm afraid to commit to volunteering for the full yet, but I'm going to be out there somewhere in my WISH green with bags full o'Twizzlers! I'll be looking for you!

Cecilia- Whoa girl! First place!!! That is so cool. Any special bling you need to show us?;)

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!!

Busy day at work, no time to catch up with everyone but I just wanted to check in and say I did 4 drippy, soggy, hot miles last night - post daily thunderstorm. And I so hard tried to take my own advice and "just enjoy the run". Man that is hard to do when it is miserable hot and you feel like your head is going to explode.:rotfl:

I do have to get a shout out to Jackie: CONGRATULATIONS on signing up, YOU GO GIRL!!!!

and CAM: Maybe I am not one to give advice since I seem to stay injured, however before we started running ( and even now) we do a lot of lifting and XT activities and I have had days where I could not walk from quad, hamstring or calf pain. Obviously I am not even suggesting it's ok to hurt yourself, but if you are doing things your body is not used to especially weight bearing/ strengthening exercises and your trainer is pushing you,
it is VERY normal to hurt.

Ibuprofen helps a lot and I have done what you did and backed off to save myself for the LR on the weekend in my opinion definately a smart decision. :flower3:

Jen - I had speech issues as a child. S's were one of them. I don't see teh 2 S's together being that bad. (and I still have issues and freak when I have to say my full name. Yes, teh speech therapist scarred me for life.)

Cecelia - COngratulations!!! :thumbsup2

Jackie - WOo hoo for signing up fo rthe full!!!

Debra - I wouldn't do anything to embarrass us to get Craig's attention. ;)

Lisa - GOod luck on the race!

Leanna - Good luck on that 20-miler!! :wizard: SUch a great accomplishment when done, but so hard to get up for.

Stephanie - You have my permission to go up to anyone attempting to turn the fans off and bash them in teh head. WTH?

DAvid - Way belated welcome to WISH!!!!!

Yup, my world is still consisting of power cleaning. After4 days, my mom called this am. They weren't planning on coming out this weekend, even though last I heard from them they would come hether we were home or not (did't knwo if we might be visiting FIL). WTH????? I almost strangled her through the phone! They are back on and my db's kids are jumping for joy (like they'd pick the zoo over our house for the weekend). Crisis averted. Good thing or I'd hurt someone.

So, my questions are many:
1. Is it okay for my quads to be so sore? I kind of like the pain as an indicator of how hard I worked and almost as a baseline for next time (i.e., it should hurt less and less each time), but in reality, is it okay?

1. Post workout soreness.... totally normal, especially if you worked out hard. Double especially if that involved weights. If it's pain and not soreness... that's a different story.

2. I'm a big fan or whatever works for you is great. I tend not to have great luck with ice baths for muscle soreness. And Alieve is my best friend.

3. When in doubt, take it easy.... I would have made the very same decision if I was sore from yesterday. (OK, who am I kidding, if it were me I would have taken three days off ;) Your way is better.... )

Debra-- When I called, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn and the Contemporary were all sold out.... maybe All Star Movies too. Everything else had rooms though. I need to rethink where I'm staying as I SWORE after last year I would never go the value route for marathon weekend again. (It's a LOOOOOOONG walk to the Food Court after 39 miles.... )

Cecilia-- Congrats on the win!!! Too cool!!!

Jackie-- Woo Hoo!!!! You'll have a great time with the full!!!

I scaled back and only did three miles this morning. I went the opposite direction on the beach path today and discovered that it's far less fun to run... too narrow, too many people, etc. But I managed three miles in 30:32... splits of 9:38, 10:29 and 10:28 (avg 10:11). I bonked that second mile with the humidity and never really recovered... I think I'm going to need to carry water on anything longer than three miles... I'm just not used to the heat down here yet.

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Cam, sore is good and actually desirable for the routine that your trainer has you doing. It is lactic acid build up from the breakdown of muscle fiber and it gets trapped inside. Massage is awesome for this. The old rolling pin treatment is great too. Lots of stretching and WATER, WATER, WATER to flush out your muscles. The trainer should have given you this advice too but, hey some of us love you more!!!!! :flower3:

Angie, Kevin & Lisa -- Thank you so much for the reassurance and the advice. WOW! This may be TMI, but it hurts to sit down, not the sitting, mind you, but the act of sitting (i.e., at my desk or at the ladies' room :lmao: ). OUCH!! Did I mention how glad I am that I am not doing ST again until Monday? ;) I know that during a run you really want to "engage" your quads and let them help power the run. I can really see where there is considerable room for improvement in my running if my quads hurt this much. When they stop hurting after the ST workouts, hopefully that will coincide with stronger runs. :cool1: Woohoo! I am all for that.

ETA: Oh, and Lisa? Thank you so much for the massage tip. I'll be sure to tell Howard about that. Hmmmm..... maybe the ST workouts arent' such a bad idea after all. ;) :lovestruc

Claire - Thanks for sharing! I'll have to try the Oreo cake. And :worship: to you for even trying to make fondant...I just buy mine! Oh...the cake was choc with choc filling for 1 tier and choc with raspberry filling for the other two. Nothing fancy. So glad to hear that you are ok and that the cops were close by. I hope those horrible girls get what's coming to them.

Debra - How's the shoulder? I did the same thing the day before my tri...I slipped in the shower and threw my arm up. My shoulder hurt so bad and I was so worried about the race. Amazingly I never had a problem with it during the race, but it was still sore afterward. :wizard: hoping it's better!

Terri - WTG on the tri training! Keep up the good work!

Jen in GA - Another :thumbsup2 for Miles! Very cute...

Leana - :wizard: :cheer2: :worship:  :woohoo: for your 20 miler! You can do it! And then eat some more when you're done!!!

And for everyone that said running with someone faster makes you faster...then what's wrong with me??? I have run with DH (who is lightning fast compared to me) with no improvement and have been with the running group since March!

I did do my first hill work out last night though. I actually thought it was fun!

Goodness Gracious, the thread's gotten active again! (And yes, I just used that opening as an excuse to say goodness gracious.)

Mel: Great advice with the baby-naming rules. I wish someone had thought of that with my name. Not sure what can be done with Miles, though. Smiley Miley? That's not so bad.

Leana: Good luck with thinking about...stuff...does that include the types of toppings you like on your pizza? :rotfl2: (I hope it's lightweight and happy thoughts you'll have on your 20-miler anyway.) I tend to get really hungry when I up the miles, too, but have found my appetitive stabilizes after a couple of weeks. I have to watch my protein intake :confused3 and have found that contributes to my hunger level. Maybe it's the same for you?

Dave: Great general advice for training for a race! :thumbsup2 That's the kind of stuff I hope Leana has fun thinking about on her LR.

Cam: Ooooh, stronger quads and hamstrings. Better for the runs and so very sexy! ;) I can't believe how many crunches and pushups you do--okay, I can believe YOU do them. But that exhausts me. I'm with Lisa--the scale is only one small measure of your progress, and a frustrating and often inaccurate one at that. I hope you're enjoying being stronger and faster.

I also agree with Lisa, Angie, Kevin, & others: sore is good--pain is bad. Question: are you too sore to kick Howard's butt for pushing so hard (and running on an empty stomach)? You're smart, IMO, to alternate easy runs with your hard XT days. It seems to me that you and your PT are doing the right things to help you progress with all your fitness goals. (Except for the heels! :scared1:)

Kristi: It sounds like running on a track is a nice way to practice for a race, with water stations and Porta-Potty stops (a notch up, I hope). Even dodging people....That was one thing I wasn't prepared for at my first even, all the lateral movement! Thanks for the feedback!

Krista: I say that if the sleep-deprived, new mother can't find anything wrong with the name that it just might be insult-proof! :teeth: You do realize, however, that you're just going to have to tell Carter he WAS named after a Cabbage Patch doll one day? What fun is having a kid if you can't torment him?

Terri: Your tri sounds pretty intense to me. Proficient in three sports. Transitions. Endurance. Facing other competitors on the course(s). Your heel/achilles problems. I definitely think you need to do something so that you don't have WTO. Tell the boss that a healthy employee is more productive, and there's noone healthier than a WISHer. :goodvibes

Jackie: Woo hoo on registering for the full! :woohoo: Feels good, doesn't it?

Stephanie: I'm with you--when I go to the gym, I want it cold. Goosebump cold, with lots of air circulation. And especially with your heat index. (Btw, good job with your 4+ miles.)

Howard: Awwww, your support for Cam is just so sweet. :cloud9: I think you both share that work ethic, and it's a joy to see your progress.

Amy: Great advice for Angie! It really is all about the base, isn't it? I'm trying to keep my base in mind as I train for the marathon; in some ways, a better base is my prioritized long-term goal (beyond January). Thanks for the update on the YouBars--making all those decisions about what you want in them might be overwhelming for me. I haven't tried the Clif Mojo bars, so maybe I'll start with that. A sub-30 5K in taper mode? Your 10K goal is in sight! :thumbsup2

Cecilia:
Oh that? We won first place. Okay that was me trying to play it cool -
:lmao: And a big congratulations! That's wonderful. Does this mean you two will be teaming up again? (Like a cooler version of the Wonder Twins?)

Jen in GA: Great advice on not trying anything new on race day. That's a recipe for disaster. And with the salt, a possible boot and rally. Twizzlers? Oh, you're definitely going to need to tell us where you'll be hanging out on the full marathon course.

Angie: Good job with the 4 miles in the heat. To reference Tracey, did you have pinky pistols? To piggyback on your advice to Cam, I also think you've mentioned enjoying all your XT and lifting, too. Even the elliptical, your once-dreaded nemesis!

Carrie:
I wouldn't do anything to embarrass us to get Craig's attention.
Hmmm, that statement could go one of two ways. You won't do anything to embarrass us, just me. Or Craig is in for a very special moment of his very own. Which do I think it is? I know which one I prefer....:rotfl2: Yay for the end of power cleaning soon (I hope) and for your parents' visit. It sounds like there are high expectations for a fun-filled weekend. You all definitely deserve it!

Kevin: Thanks for the update on the resorts, and your thoughts on the values. We've not stayed at them, but were considering Pop for marathon weekend. Something about a meet.... Maybe we (meaning me) will rethink and argue for other digs. I'm sorry to hear you bonked on your run and that you didn't enjoy your path less traveled (or more traveled, as the case may be).

MB Michelle: I can't believe you did a tri with a hurt shoulder! That's woman warrior status! :worship: And big kudos for running with faster runners and undertaking hill work, too. I have to admit, though, I'm just as likely to worship you for those delicious cakes. (I'm not shallow, just equal opportunity.) Why was the hill work fun, may I ask? Fun??

Today's shout-outs go to Racey Tracy and Aloha Jeff. Because it feels weird not to read posts about their training. Maybe they've already left for DL and a little intense 1/2 training on site? If so, I hope they're both enjoying some Mickey ice-cream bars :mickeybar or Dole Whip. (With Ms. Duckie, of course!)

As for me: Thanks for asking about the shoulder, Cam and Michelle. It's fine, just a little twingy now. I can feel it when I stretch, but it's much, much better. I've been pretty cautious with it--stayed away from upper-body strength training this week and modified my Pilates. I just gave it a good wrench trying to break my fall, and hurt my pride as much as anything. You know, now that I think about it, I'm never quite sure if I'm really injury-prone in terms of running or just plain clumsy. I guess it doesn't matter, huh? The bruises are still purple and green.

Yesterday was my speedwork (or my version of it), so today was an easy, shorter run. A little over 3 miles. Not as fast as Howard, Lisa, or Kevin, but I will keep them in my mind as pace-setters on future runs. Someday.... Anyway, I felt like I could have gone longer but stopped when I hit my goal. (Not that that makes much sense, except I'm looking at Pilates tonight and a good session of XT tomorrow. I'm working on a balanced schedule.)

Michelle - Been runnign with dh for over 3 years. Not a big help. We'll go with Craigs theory. In order to run faster, you must run faster. Shorter fast runs or intervals really help. It does take time, though.

Debra - Oh, I hear you on teh clutziness! SO me! Gkad you are doing better!

And for everyone that said running with someone faster makes you faster...then what's wrong with me??? I have run with DH (who is lightning fast compared to me) with no improvement and have been with the running group since March!

Michelle, try to run with someone else from your running group, other than your husband. See how they pace themselves, form, stride, breathing, etc. Pick someone really fast, and see if you can keep up for a mile, then two, then three, etc. Don't worry if you can't, you'll build up to to their pace in a month or two.

Trust me, or not, that's how I improved. I was in my comfort zone for two years, then I started running with Guru Les. Amazing how I went from a 11 minute miler, to 8:40/9:00 minutes, in just 5 months of training with him.

If I can do it, anyone can. :thumbsup2

Today's shout-outs go to Racey Tracy and Aloha Jeff. Because it feels weird not to read posts about their training. Maybe they've already left for DL and a little intense 1/2 training on site? Aloooooooohaaaaaaa!!!

I think you flipped the calendar too early there Debraoni. The half is next month on 8/31/08, not this week. :lmao: Unless I can run on water, there is no way I'm swimming that far. Did you all read there is a new land at Disney, it's called Shakingland. :rotfl2:

I took me a day off from running on Tuesday, giving the minor plantiar faciitis a break. Well, errr, Guru Les is sick too. And since he's still battling his cold, I'll take today off as well.

However, my cross training tonight is going night reef walking near Kualoa Ranch, in search of spearing some octopus (night tako). We're headed out for beach camping this weekend again on the North Shore, and we need bait in hopes of catching some more fish out of the blue Pacific ocean.

I suppose on Saturday, we can make a stop at Dole Plantation, and have a Dole Whip in honor of everyone's training. And I guess I'll have to take my camera with me to post the photo of the Princesses, as proof of the delicious treats. :rolleyes1

Yesterday (RACEY TRACY are you reading this?) I took 3.25 hours off for Princess #2's kindergarten parent orientation. Following that, I headed into work to get some stuff done. Since the Queen had her own open house at her school, I had to head back to Princess #1's open house. Oh, and throw in running the flag ceremony for the PTSA meeting with my Girl Scout troop. Pheew, was I exhaused at the end of the night, there was no energy to check in with my WISH family. Sorry everyone.

I recommend not taking any Alieve, Tylenol, or any other pain killers before going out on a run. Masking an injury will only make it worse. You need to rest if your hurt, period. Taking anti-inflammatories is okay after working out, not before.

Hope you're all having a great day. Good training, and don't overtrain if your nursing an injury.

Shout outs to everyone!;)

Well I actually have a free moment so I will take the time to catch up a little.

I think the last time I said that Timmy pushed one of his teeth up into his mouth. The dentist said there was really nothing he could do. That didn’t make the parents feel better though. The dentist said that either nothing happened, he cracked the root or he slightly damaged it. It will become more apparent in a few years and we will see if the tooth turns colors or not. Otherwise he is happy as can be and didn’t seem to learn his lesson.

Training wise, I am getting most of my workouts in. I think last week was 14 miles that definitely kicked my tail. I remember now why I hate training in the summer. My pace drops significantly and you get the feeling that you will never be able to finish a marathon in the time requirements. January had better be cooler. Although getting older may have something to do with it. :rolleyes1

Debra – Glad your shoulder is feeling better. Now I thought you would have done something like that a couple of months ago when you were moving. That way DOOD could have done everything while you supervised (relaxed). Now for the important part, was you ice cream eating ability hampered by the injury. That would definitely be tragic. :scared1:

Michelle – I will guess that you are actually faster than when you first started. Your body will rebel for a while and then you will notice that you can go further and faster and not feel as winded at the end. Summer is also a hard time to get faster since with the heat, you will have your pace slow down.

Cam – Hope things calm down for you. I guess that not being able to sit could be an encouragement to get outside and exercise. It is always the right decision to take it easy when you don’t feel like going a certain pace. No getting hurt and not making it to the start line. As for the heels, I never thought there was a right time for them. :lmao:

Kevin – Hate to tell you but you never get used to the heat down here. I think my limit is 5 miles when I start taking water with me. Those times are still great with all the conditions.

Carrie – Now that you have all the practice, I will sacrifice our house to let you continue practicing. Just watch out for the whirlwind that comes behind you and messes up everything immediately after it was cleaned.

Angie – Glad you are trying to enjoy your runs. That definitely takes more energy in the summer. Glad you are trying to take it easy as well. Don’t injure that back again. How is the new job going?

Cecilia – Great job on the tri. Running with the pros is definitely an interesting experience.

Lisa – Good luck on the race. I hope you have an enjoyable taper time.

Howard – Your training looks great. I would hate to see what you would do if you had more extra time available. Now for the lashing we promised Cam, make sure you don’t overdo it and get hurt. The 4 week marathon training plan can’t work forever.

Stephanie – Hope it cools off a little more for you. Running in an enclosed area without fans doesn’t make sense. I guess it goes to show how much effort they are expending.

Jackie – Congrats on signing up. Look forward to seeing you at the start line.

Terri – I agree that your boss should let you have more training time. Enjoy your rest day.

Krista – Tell Stephen that it doesn’t matter if he wants the laptop. You are supposed to be taking it easy with the new baby. He can go use a different one. ;) Glad you are beginning to adjust at home. Big word of advise, don’t start back too soon. Lynnda tried that and found out why you are supposed to do what the doctor says. How is Hines doing with the addition.

David – Welcome to the group.

Hawaii Jeff - I thought that everyday in Hawaii was a vacation day. That would mean that you have every day off doesn't it.

Leanna – 20 miles definitely equates to 4 pieces of pizza. I would have probably continued with 4 total pizzas but that could be the reason that the scale isn’t moving either.

Jen in Ga – Miles is a cute name. I wouldn’t worry about what others think either. Looking back at school, I don’t think there was a safe name when it comes to kids. Organization is there for the first one only, all others are lucky if they have a place to sleep before they get home.

Craig – You had better be behaving yourself. We will come up there to correct any over training that might be going on right now.

Tracy – That is a great pic. Although the storms that come with them aren’t that fun right now.

Lily – Hope the next chapter of work (or non-work) goes well. As for retirement, I think you are a little young still to be officially retired.

Kristi – Glad you are trying to get back in it. You need your strength when you are throwing water cups at us. I think keeping up with 5 year olds can be considered cross training.

Mel – Glad you had a good vacation. If all of Florida was in NC then the rest of the country must have been in Florida because it was definitely more crowded here. Take it easy with your hip. We need to hear the story about the goat because there are just too many possibilities.

Hope everyone’s summer is going well even though it is almost over.

Jen in GA- I think Miles is cute and common/old enough name that the average Joe isn't going to see it as corny. Personally I'd be more worried about him being teasingly called Miley (like Cyrus) than thinking your a dweeb. But then again I've only left high school 4 years ago and middle school 6 so that's what I think about.

Best,
Jen in AL

I asked, and I received...

Just got my email (7/31/08) to print my race waiver for the half marathon. :cool1:

It looks like one waiver for all race weekend events.
