Wk of July 27 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning, all! Was glad that thunder and lightening caused me to cut my LR short this morning, and I think my quads will be forever grateful. The really exciting part of it for me is that my absolute stonker 2.7 miles this morning, when I felt like I was crawling along, was an almost consistent 13:20-13:30 pace. I just cannot believe that my "stonker pace" has improved that much. :lmao: Anyway, the quads do feel better today -- now they are sore, rather than PAINFUL.

Howard just left for a 6 mile run and I think Stacie really needs to start that booty kicking with him. Let's see just how smart this guy is -- I cut my run short due to thunder and lightening and he went out in it? His training ethic borders on crazy sometimes. But I love him anyway. :lovestruc

Tomorrow's a rest day for me. :yay: However, I will do some cross-training at brunch (weightlifting -- mountains of food, table to mouth). We are going to the Moshulu, a tall ship that has been converted to a restaurant and permanently docked at Penns Landing in Philadelphia. Our very own Kathy (Valentine) is going with us!  :cloud9: But we'll miss Judy (honeibee) and Charlie, who went with us last summer. :sad1:

Happy travels to Kristi & Chad!
Angie -- So glad you are loving your job, and what an exciting professional challenge you are undertaking!
Bill -- Your training is very impressive. Sounds like there'll be an awesome WISH presence at San Antonio. :thumbsup2
Jeff -- I hope you and your ladies are having a fun weekend. How was the catfish?
Hi, Jen! It's nice to see you here, sweetie! :wave2:

Sorry to all I missed. Off to the shower.

Have a fabulous weekend, everyone!

Jeff -- I hope you and your ladies are having a fun weekend. How was the catfish?

Cam,

The catfish was delicious. Nothing like fresh fish on the grill, and some of it deepfried :rolleyes1.

Will be heading out shortly to the North Shore, and try to pull some other seafood out of the great Pacific Blue.

If we catch anything, I'll post pictures late tonight (my time). Otherwise you'll see where we stop off at on the way to our destination.

Have a great weekend Team WISH.:thumbsup2

Angie: I'm glad your DS like The Dark Knight--I was almost sure he would. And too, too funny about acting like the protective big brother while providing lots of detailed spoilers. (But we all agree that DS8 shouldn't see it.) Woo hoo for your real date with DH--what a treat. And much better than The Dark Knight, I'm sure.

Bill: I think the RnR races sound like a lot of fun. Some day... You'll have to give us a detailed RR. I love the idea of creating an extra-long bendy straw. Very Tinker Toys. (I probably just dated myself there.) I'm not much of an engineer, so maybe I'd need to consult our own Angie. Or Timmy, as he seems to be pretty smart.

Vic (and Bill): :rotfl2: And here I was, thinking I really ought to find myself a stadium to try and keep up with you. Given the two stadium-run WO options offered by Bill and you, though, I think I'll pass!

Howard: Thanks for the info on your training and racing plans. One day, I aspire to doing several 1/2s or fulls during race season. But I have a heck of a time imaging how it's done without treating the earlier ones as training races. I just don't have enough experience or a strong enough base yet. But you just gave me a good idea about how to approach them. I think, maybe, I could swing a Philly/Goofy. I KNOW you can and, with all the training you've been putting in, believe strong races and PRs are possible.

Btw, just had to remind us all that you're doing the 5K in January, too? The Dopey. And if you do three other 1/2s/fulls before January plus misc. events? The Howard. (As in Howard the Duck, of course. Not Disney, but definitely extreme! :thumbsup2 ) Um, running in the thunder and lightning? It's a Howard.

Cam: I'm glad that your LR was cut short--it gives you more time to recover. As for your stonker of a run....:woohoo: It must be great to have the physical evidence of your progress in your faster pace. And I'd hazard a guess that your recovery for all your strength training is faster than it would have been, say, a year ago. Enjoy tomorrow's rest day and brunch. Give Kathy a big WISH hug from us. :cloud9:

Aloha Jeff: Deepfried catfish? You do so run to eat. :rolleyes1 Glad you enjoyed it--have a great time at the North Shore. And yay for more pretty pictures (forthcoming).

As for me: 6 miler today, plus an extra long cool-down as I misjudged the distance from home. Now some resting and recovery, which includes reading Shakespeare's Cymbeline today. We're seeing an outdoor performance tomorrow night and I haven't read the play. I bet you attempting to do so today will help with my post-run nap. ;)

Good Afternoon Athletes!!

Debra: I am running the 5K with Kevin Z and his DS (Kyle) and my DS (Andrew) on Friday of Marathon Weekend. Then the half on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday. I think I will be able to pull it all off with a gargantuan effort. I hope to be well trained and conditioned to do it after the PDR, MCM and PM in Sept., Oct. and Nov.

I ran this morning with clouds and threatening rain. I guess they missed me, I didn't get rained on. ( Cam ~ :rolleyes1 ) The sun was full on when I finished. The temps were in the mid to high 70's and the relative humidity (according to the Philly news) was in the 88% range. Ugh. :sad2:

Miles: 6
Time: 54:41
Pace: 9:06

Splits:
9:42
9:31
9:08
8:55
9:04
8:22

I felt pretty good throughout, just a bit lethargic at the start. I think that had to do with the humidity. I had to adjust my breathing and get warmed up a bit during the first mile.

Tomorrow calls for a LR of 12 miles. :scared:

We just got a call from Kathy (Valentine) that she can't come down this weekend for a visit. :sad1: We'll have to reschedule. :headache: We will look forward to rescheduling time to see her. :thumbsup2

I hope you have a great weekend!

:grouphug:

GOOD EVENING TEAM

Tracy: What the heck are pinky pistols??????? Missed that one sorry

Ohhhh, you missed that one. I think I am the pinky pistol shooter around here.
Pinky pistols are what happens when the sweat that starts collecting near the elbow area, on the undersides of your arms, trickles down and then flys off the end of your pinky fingers as your arms are moving back and forth during walking/running. The sweat flings or flys out and you have to be careful not to hit others as they go by!! Pinky Pistols. (I have those alot right now in hot and humidy South Florida!):lmao:

I definately get those!! But what I want to know is:

What do you call it when a certain, 6'2", 200 lb man (ehemm - DH) gets on treadmill at gym and is such a sweaty mess that the sweat does not just flings and most definately flies all over everyone within a 10 ft vicinity from every part of his body. :rotfl2: He has MAJOR PINKY PISTOLS and elbow pistols, and bicep pistols and .... :lmao: Just kidding that's a great term Tracy, very creative.

Maybe he has body grenades?? Or 6 shooters, or rambling rifle sweat???

Have to think about that one.

Jeff: Hope the great weekend is coming along. Sounds like you've had some great eats so far.

Cam: Liking the XT at brunch, I will have to use that sometime.:)

I got in 2.30 miles last night on my way home before I was forced to seek shelter in my car from the Pouring Sheets of rain came a tumblin down!!

So today after a trip down to the "U" (University of Miami) to watch a season ticket holder team football practice, I decided to get in the rest of my mileage. So out I went and got in the last 1.70 miles. Later today I got in the pool for 30min of XT. Spoke to my Aunt today to finalize my plans for going out to CA to see her and do the DL 1/2. I'm getting kinda excited, although not looking forward to the "flying out there" part.

Hope everyone is doing fine and I have a 8 miler on tap for tomorrow.!!
