No, not in a hotel; never. I will sometimes hang something up, like if we're travelling to an event and I brought a special dress and a suit for DH, but that doesn't really count, does it? We do unpack on cruises, but only because there's no place in the average cabin to keep the luggage out and open.

Timely question, as I'm currently relaxing at a hotel in preparation for tomorrow's flight to New Orleans! I ALWAYS unpack. I can't stand to be pawing thru bags and backpacks, trying to find what I want. Currently, although my main suitcase is still packed and in the car, I unpacked my overnight bag. Jammies, tomorrow's clothes, and my "spare in case we get stranded" clothes are in a drawer, toiletries either on my nightstand or in the bathroom. Everything's lined up and orderly, and I can relax.
Have a great time! So much good food to enjoy in NOLA.

DH thinks hotel drawers are dirty and refuses to use them. He lives out of his suitcase, fumbling through everything and causing it all to be an unfolded jumbled mess. (he even does this when we are staying at the vacation rental that we own) If we are there a few days, I will usually grab all of his shirts and hang them for him just to ease my type A tendencies.

I unpack and put my things in drawers and hangers (unless just there for one night). I dedicate one drawer of dirty clothes... oh, wait, I think I see Dh's point about the dirty drawers 🤣 . The heck with it, I'm not changing.

I am also the shoe police. All shoes must be left in the dedicated shoe spot so I am not tripping over then the whole stay. There have been many fights about shoes being in the shoe spot.

If I’m staying a few nights or less I just live out of my suitcase. If I’m there for longer I will unpack, but only if I remember to bring some antibacterial wipes with me. I won’t put clothes in a drawer or on a hanger that hasn’t been wiped down. Which is odd because I don’t usually wipe down anything else in the room. Guess I just hope housekeeping cleans the main touched areas.

Unpacking is an important part of my travel.

It continues the build of anticipation as I look out at everything I have planned ahead and it also provides a last look to make sure I have everything so that there are no surprises later.

I used to enjoy living out of a suitcase but now I’m the opposite. I like to start my day like I’m living and not just passing through.

Ahhh, the shoes. Love when there's a designated shoe spot somewhere near the entry. If there's any type of basket it becomes the shoe basket, if there's a closet that's the shoe closet. On another issue....I really like when there are drawers in the bathrooms, I hate a cluttered counter, especially with makeup products and brushes etc that leave residue and hair. First thing I do when emptying bathroom products is grab a glass or container from the kitchen to use as a toothbrush holder for the countertop. I also stick the largest bowl I can find on the dining table or entry table for "stuff"....keys, chapstick, all the little stuff that gets easily lost when emptying pockets.

I realized while reading through these comments that it really depends on the type of traveler you are. Most of our summer travels are in our rv, so everything is put away in there. When we do travel elsewhere it's typically to Disney and we typically stay in the same resort and same room category. We are such creatures of habit that when we do go somewhere else we do exactly the same thing. Clothes unpacked, suitcases in closet, and dirty clothes in closet on the floor. Shoes are typically by the door.

We travelled with my BIL and his family this summer. They are not unpackers or tidy. That was interesting.

I began unpacking when on business trips and the habit stuck. I now put all my clothing away, whether in closets or bureau.

Somewhat on topic, my last trip, I reorganized my toiletry bag into a “super mini” without buying any new containers. That move saved a lot of space in my luggage.

I never unpack my clothes. Toiletries go in the bathroom. Jackets get hung up in the closet after use. I put dirty clothes in the plastic bags most hotels give you for laundry. At Disney World hotels we'd just shove dirty clothes in the drawers until the end of the trip, as we were generally in one place for a week+.

Honestly, I'm bad about putting clothes away at home, too. 😄 I have a running pile of clean laundry on top of my dresser instead of putting it away immediately.

I only unpack in Disney hotels after checking all the drawers thoroughly. My son half unpacks and my wife lives out of her suitcase but will hang a few things up. However, now that I am learning that some people use the drawers for their dirty clothes, I may start living out of the suitcase again.....

Always have baby wipes and lysol wipes.

I have read many times over the years that many put their dirty clothes in the drawers. Since the first time I read about it, cleaned and bring paper liners (I save these and reuse/I usually get them from a new stuffed bag/pocketbook, wrap breakable items bought in Home Goods)....

I wash everything I will use also in the kitchen or kitchenette before I use it myself. :) Is anything 100%? No, but I try.

We each have our own routines :)

What hotel room doesn't have drawers? I mean, I've been in some that the drawers aren't part of furniture, but there's sliding "racks" that would handle that kind of stuff.
Most of the ones I've been to in Europe don't have drawers, just a closet or armoire with shelves.

I am once again surprised that the majority of people seem to unpack. I honestly don't find it difficult to "live out of a suitcase" while in a hotel. I don't see it as much different then needing to looking through things in a drawer.

I do have to say I especially won't use them now that I know people use them for their dirty clothes. :crazy2:

I use packing cubes, take those and put them into the drawer. I hang a lot of things. I can't stand dirty clothes all over, we usually put the dirty clothes in an extra drawer or put them in the closet. We usually stay DVC so we have a washer/dryer and I do laundry before going home.

I love my packing cubes. My husband is the opposite and just throws all of his clothes into his suitcase. The cubes make packing and unpacking so easy.

Since I'll pack for a week in a carryon, I use every bit of it and things are "scattered" in the suitcase. By unpacking, I can put my underwear all together, my socks all together, shirts next to each other as well as pants.

Clean clothes being in touch with a surface that POSSIBLY used to have dirty clothes doesn't bother me in the slightest. Think of all the places you sit down... an office chair, a restaurant chair, at a movie, public transportation (maybe). Your clothes are now in contact with some place that someone's dirty clothes may have touched.

To say nothing about touching elevator buttons, door handles, railings, desks, tables, pens, etc.

I don’t think many people here are saying they find it difficult.
