This is the perfect intro into my confession. I don't know if anyone remembers, but back in February, someone asked the question how old everyone was. I came into the thread late and said something like "going back to last week, I'm 27", I finished my post and went on my merry way. Hours later I checked the thread and everyone was wishing me a happy birthday, because it looked like I said last week I turned 27 (I guess I should have said, going back to an earlier post, I am 27). I thought, oh I won't say anything, just go with the flow, but I feel SO bad--even 5 months later I feel bad. I took birthday wishes that don't belong to me!!!   So, let me go on record and say that my birthday is not in February, it is July 19 and I will be 28. Whew! I feel much better now!! :thumbsup2

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEL!!!!!!! :bday: party: :bday:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That is sooo funny!!!!

My b-day's in August. All the girls at work used to do a little gift adn sing to you on your b-day. Well, on my 30th, I was not a happy camper and was very glad that no one remebered. A little surprised, but overall relief was teh feeling.

Fast forward a little over a month and I was back from a 1-week vacation, when I was called to the front desk. Imagine my surprise, when I was given a gift and sung too. Well, they caught my surprise and said, "Hah! We surprised you! You thought going away for your b-day would get you out of it!" They were exactly one month off. Well, I couldn't offend them when they were doing such a nice thing, so I celebrated a month off for about 2 more years. One year, my boss asked me about it and I had to confess. Finally, I told someone who told the others and we got a big laugh out of it. Every year, I really dreaded pretending on my "other" birthday.

Thanks for the laugh Krista!!! Best one I've had in ages! However, I will refrain from giving any birthday wishes next week, as you've already had them for this year. :teeth: Not!

OK, I am :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: about the b day and shoe confessions!

Happy b-day meL! party: :bday:

Dana - like everyone else has said...I just put my hair in a ponytail/bun like thing. And I normally wear a visor. My hair is suppper curly, long and thick...so I don't want it to be in my face or on my neck while running....I do have a friend who has longer (and thick) hair than me and she keeps it down. :confused3 I would go

Sunny - Glad you are running again! I know it feels good!

Judy -
I have to say, I think I would rather stay home and poke sticks in my eyes for a week rather then go on this trip. I know I sound like an ingrate, but honestly, if you only knew my MIL....
I understand! I feel like I know your MIL! Mine has been rather nice lately...I have to wonder what is going on! :confused3

Ran 4 miles today on the dreadmill. Did it at the YMCA and it wasn't that bad!
I am now cleaning my house and that is bad!

OK how about if we all just have a Happy Un-Birthday instead! pooh:

:teeth:

Geez.....you're all a bunch of 20-somethings....I really am the Old Lady around here.

If it makes you feel better, my 30th was a ways back. :teeth: Oh, and I so understand about "trips" (as we don't call them vacations) with MILs. However, mine's been very nice to me lately as with FIL recooperating, she appreciates my help. It is scary and worries me a lot! :rotfl2:

Random update from our neck of the woods...

Friday was the usual PT session for us, I ran at DW's pace and she really pushed it on the way back from the 2.5 miler or so, with more than a minute difference between the splits with even the slower one being faster than her usual pace.

Then came a whirlwind tour of Florida as we drove down to Tampa Friday night (450 or so miles from Navarre), went to Busch Gardens all day Saturday (a very fun park on a variety of levels) drove to Fort Lauderdale Saturday night (250+ more through crazy lightning) went to a wedding Sunday morning/afternoon, left Fort Lauderdale around 5pm Sunday night, arrived back here Monday morning around 3:30am or so (650 miles later), and then tried to make it out to PT at 0700, but slept through it. :( (I wonder why?)

Highlights included getting into Busch Gardens free thanks to their Heroes salute program (we'd already used hers to go to Sea World in Orlando), riding the new roller coaster Sheikra, and then myself being randomly pulled onstage during one of the shows by a Cher impersonater, instantly dressed up as Sonny, and asked to sing along. DW got it on her cell phone video camera, I'm sad to say.

Anyway, made up for missing PT with a little 2.5 miler around the neighborhod before the beginning of some bottom of the foot pain caused me to stop and avoid injury. (might have been all the walking this weekend) DW claims she'll get back into the swing of things tomorrow. :)

Oh the birthday confession is too much :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I must say though, as if the hunched-over-pelican-walk isn't enough to make me feel like a granny, there's 30 yos feeling old amongst the 20 yos.

Good grief I'm 42!!!!!

Fortunately, I don't act it ;) :Pinkbounc

And as for the shoes... the only good thing about my long standing illness turned to injury is that I haven't been stressing over my next pair of kyano Asics. Unfortunately, my current pair are lasting a really, really long time.

Sunny

Thanks to everyone for the nice birthday wishes :grouphug: Now can anyone tell me why there are balloons in my bathroom :confused3 DH took the day off and apparently has been up to things...

I have to admit, turning 38 today really hasnt bugged me, but the fact that my 20th high school reunion is in 2 weeks is makin' me a little bit crazy. I just can't believe it's been 20 years since I graduated.

Cam...congrats on the sub-13 pace! :moped:

Carrie...so does that get you more birthday gifts if you have two birthdays a year ;)

Helen... :wizard: for your kitty!

Matt...wow...quite a trip. I hope you waved to me as you drove past Sarasota :wave2:

Christa...great photos!

Krista...are y'all for sure on Race for the Taste? That would be really cool!
I've been looking at other sites for the message bracelets to find the best price. I have found some with different sizes, including child and a size in between child and adult. I'll keep everyone posted when I find the best deal!

Dana...I put my hair up in summer and leave it down in winter.

Thanks to everyone who asked about DD's scan. We got the results yesterday and they were negative...just a plain old boring cyst in the kidney. I know it sounds weird, but I've waited to mail in our Race for the Taste registration until we had the results...just in case.

In-law story for Judy: MIL and FIL are late 60s, early 70s and decided last year to move to an apartment to get away from home maintenance and such annoying things. They sold their house and found an apartment complex with residents who were primarily young families, families with teenagers and young single folks. About 2 weeks ago, they got a letter letting them out of their lease and suggesting they find another place to live. The reason: they were making too many complaints. Apparently, they spent a lot of time calling the office to complain about noise and landscaping, fitness equipment, neighbors, etc, etc. So the apartment complex thought maybe they'd be happier somewhere else :lmao:

Happy birthday Mel. and thanks for all the pixie dust. It has had some effect already, apparently, the blood transfusion worked very well, she is now sitting up and eating - which means it's only a few hours now until she takes her first swipe at the vet. Other than that not much to report as they aren't getting the test results back on 'the mass' until this afternoon, although thanks to you guys I can now add cyst and furball to my list of things that aren't 'malignant tumour'. It's actually getting quite long and includes things like swallowed ping pong ball, chewed up grass, one of the little green birds that lives at the bottom of the garden, although what any of these might be doing in her bladder I'm currently ignoring!!!!! Will keep you posted - Helen

This is such a great group! :jumping1:

Helen, so sorry to hear about your cat. pixiedust: :cat: pixiedust:
Mel, Happy Birthday! Wonderful news about your DD! Now, I'm back to thinking about the RftT, but I know we really shouldn't do it this year. We need to see how we survive DL first!! With the way you look Mel, you should have NO problems going to your high school reunion!!
Sunny, your pelican walk description was painful to even read about!! I hope the exercise helps some how!
Matt...oh, the days of youth!! Sounds like you had a great weekend! Hope you iced your foot. Talk to Mel, sounds like PF...congrats to DW for her good run!
Judy, sorry, you may NOT claim the title of Old Lady. Besides, as Sunny pointed out..it's just a number, not a state of mind!! Just want you to know that EVERY time I get on the treadmill, I think of you because I still can't keep up with you!! I agree with what Cam said!
Cam Awesome, awesome, job on your sub 13 pace!! Whooooo wheeeee!

Judy - I'm envious of the trip to Italy, but I feel your pain with the MIL. We went to London for 10 days with MIL and FIL, and there was one time that they stepped out in front of a double decker bus and I hesitated before screaming at them to stop! On the third morning I told DH that we had to split up or I was staying in the hotel for the day.

Cam - Congrats on the sub 13:00 mile, and good luck on extending it to the second mile!

Helen - More :goodvibes for your kitty.

Krista - I have tiny wrists too. I hadn't gotten around to asking about the youth sizes yet, but am really glad you did! Take it easy on the ankles.

Sunny - I'm with you about not acting your age. I absolutely refuse to believe that I'm really 43!

Mel - Happy birthday! :bday: Glad DD's scan was negative. Your in-law story had me :rotfl2:

I did 3.3 miles Sunday morning, then did an easy 1 mile walk with the dog last night. Got up this morning determined to go out and run before work, and remembered why I don't run in our neighborhood. Apparently our street and my shins are mortal enemies, and after a few minutes both shins were in pain; after 20 minutes I called it quits and came home. Back to the icing and maybe a couple of days off... again!

I have been so busy at work. I have gotten in zero training in the past week, and there is no hope for this week.

It's been the same for me -- but I really have to get it together.....I'm hoping to do something tomorrow.

Come on guys -- help me get motivated.....I've been working so hard and my commute is killing me, all that is happening lately is I crash once I get home - I hope this is just a short rough patch. :guilty:

Jodi--Haven't seen you around much lately, how are you doing? Training going okay?

Oh, I'm still here.....I haven't had the chance to train that much lately.....but I hope to get into it either tonight or tomorrow night - - I feel just horrible.

Work has me so stressed out lately, I go into work with my muscles all tight - It's horrible, I guess I would feel better if I worked out.....I just needed a kick in the butt to be quite honest.

Thank you, I think I will go tonight :goodvibes

I still have to catch up with all of you but it will be easier now, that all of my Disney planning is over with. If you go into my pre-trip report, I have posted everything that I am doing while on the January trip (page 2).

Oh by the way, I also posted Bob's basket there :teeth: Shh!!! Don't tell him :teeth:

Closer to the trip I will post a picture of myself,if anyone sees me while at the World -- feel free to stop me and say "Hello." I hope to make it to the Port Orleans meet....I tend to lose track of time.

jodi - I'm by no means a great example of being a non-slacker, btu here's my best advice. Do not sit down when you get home! Go straight in and change your clothes. If I sit, I'm a goner. CUrves helped me get in the groove too, as I would go on my way home. If I went home first, I was done, but on the way did not give me a chance to slack!

:wizard: For all of us unmotivateds!

mel - Ballons in teh bathroom? SOund sliek soemthing's cooking! SO glad to hear about your dd!!

Helen - :cheer2: Let's hope for the grass or ping pong ball now!!! ;)

Jackie - So sorry about your shins!!! DO oyu have a pool you can run in?

It was pourign here, so I did some power shopping, um I mean mall walking tonight. ;) Good sandals for walking the parks, I hope. I got Eccos, as I know someone asked earlier. Supposed to be very good.

Well, I'm slowly getting to know you guys from all the postings :goodvibes and I must say....I think I'm the old lady in the group. I just turned 49 (yikes! I can't believe I'm saying that!) and I'm just now starting this walking/running thing preparing for the half in January. What have I gotten myself into!!!!

Anyway, I was supposed to start my program with a trainer this morning but I had to send my new, precious kitten to the Rainbow Bridge last night and I was just too much of a wreck this morning to do any good. Luckily, my trainer agreed to meet tomorrow instead. I feel better tonight so I think tomorrow will work out fine.

Happy Birthday, Mel - you young, wipper snapper. Ha! Actually, when you get my age, you start going backward in years so maybe I'll catch up with you some day. ;) I am kind of hoping to knock off a few years by becoming healthier and training for the half.

Carrie - that story about the lady who lost 100 pounds sounds a lot like my friend who encouraged me to go for the half in January. She lost about a hundred pounds (without surgery) and is running in half and full marathons. My friend looks incredible now and is such an inspiration.

Helen - more pixie dust for your furbaby. :wizard: I hope the vet is able to figure out the problem and get your precious cat on the road to recovery soon.

To all - good luck in your training and upcoming events. I can't wait to post about my first event - hopefully before the half. :thumbsup2

Susie

Oh Susie, I am so sorry about your kitty. Can't read the rainbow bridge without tearing up, but it's such a lovely way to think of things. I have a couple pets who will look after your kitty.

My goodness you guys had me cracking up!! :rotfl2: I can't wait to meet everyone in January!!

As for age, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. Everytime I turn around it seems as if I am the baby of the group, which doesn't seem to be the case here!! Not that I mind, I usually get along really well with people older than me, but sometimes it bites being the baby! Looks like someone else on here is 27 too, so that means I am not ALONE!!

Thanks everyone for the advice on my hair. I am still not sure what I am gonna do though. I always put it in a high pony tail, I have tried the bun thing but it bounces ALOT and seems to keep coming undone. I may try a braid and see how that works, but I am afraid it would drive me crazy bouncing up and down on my back!! If I can't find something that works I may just have to take 4-5 inches off! :scared1: So, here's hoping I can find something that works!!

Dana

Hi, everyone! Thanks to your support and encouragement, I did go to the gym tonight and hit the TM for a 4 minute warm up and then a brisk 1.7 miles. The first mile was 12:36! Then I think I finished almost .7 miles at about 7:45, but looking at that being a sub 12:00 pace, I think I must have remembered wrong. The good thing I was able to do the sub-13:00 again. I am, in fact, exhausted, however.

Susie -- I am sorry about your kitty. Sending you a

Hey, Sunny -- I found a new song for your mp3 player -- "As the Rush Comes" by Motorcycle. Very similar to the great songs you told me about by Scooter. Funny about the group names, right? :moped:

The reason I almost didn't go to the gym tonight was that DS13tomorrow took a fall at the college campus where he is doing the Hopkins program and had to be rushed to the emergency room for stitches. He cut his forehead at the top of his eyebrow line and needed 8 stitches. Many calls with the program nurse, then the emergency room registration, then the emergency room nurse, then the doctor himself. DS sounds perfectly fine. However, I am glad DH is stopping there tomorrow night to surprise him at his floor meeting with pizza and chips and soda because I want some reassurance that he is fine. I offered to drive the 1.5 hours to go see for myself tonight but the nurse said he was fine and he assured me himself he is fine.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all of you I took my butt to the fitness center tonight! :thumbsup2 Bob and I plan on going tomorrow night as well.

Tonight, I did 20 minutes on the ellpitical, Level 4 (difficulty)
Threadmill - 5k, in 34.40 minutes, I did this with a slight incline.

Great advice, Carrie :goodvibes Yeah -sitting down when you get home is a killer :guilty:

I will do my best to catch up with everone tomorrow morning.....a little tired now (very long day).

Thanks again for the motivation :cheer2: You guys are the best

:goodvibes Cam, sorry to hear about your son, but glad it wasn't anything more serious. :goodvibes

Walk for only 2omins. yesterday, but cleaned a condo for 4 hrs. today, so that's something, right?
