Wk of Jul 9--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Why did Susie have to mention the Rainbow Bridge - never heard of the rainbow bridge before, of course being nosey, I had to search online - well now you should see the state of me!!!! But thank you, it sounds a very happy place. Still no news - hence me being on here trying to take my mind off things - not doing so well at that bit am I! I think I'll go and find a sock drawer to sort or something. Helen

Well, I'm slowly getting to know you guys from all the postings :goodvibes and I must say....I think I'm the old lady in the group. I just turned 49 (yikes! I can't believe I'm saying that!) and I'm just now starting this walking/running thing preparing for the half in January. What have I gotten myself into!!!!
Susie

Ha! Wrong!! I am 51! (And I know at least two WISHers who are a little older than me.) The key word here is older. I keep telling my kids I am glad to be getting older....but I will never be old. It is only a number.

Actually turning 50 last year is what motivated me to start moving and register for the WDW 2006 half. Completing it was such a thrill and a huge sense of accomplishment for this former couch potato!! Now I am registered for the FULL next January. Oh my!!  Just about anything is possible! :cheer2:

Cam- I'm so glad DS is o.k. I know its hard to know he is hurt & you can't be there with him. But kids are resiliant! Oh, and you have a teenage son now, watch out :teeth: Awesome job on the pace, you are smokin' :moped:

Susie-Like everyone said , age is a state of mind. And judging by the state of mind of most of us here I think we are all around 11 or 12, right? :lmao: My mom isnt' a DISer (although she knows everything about you guys) she started this adventure with me last year. She did the WDW 1/2, the Minnie 15k and she's doing the DL 1/2 and the 2007 1/2 too. And she turned 65 this year. Sad part is I have to work my butt off to keep up with her and I'm only 36. We all went through that "what the heck have we done" thinking but trust me if you put your steps in you will do it. It is an awesome feeling to know that you have accompished this goal & got some cool jewelry to show for it.

Jodi-Get off that butt & get back to training girl! :dancer: (There was no kicking butt icon so picture him kicking your butt while he's dancing :) ) You've got a race & a half to train for. O.k. lecture over, I would also suggest not sitting down when you get home. I'm the same way, if I hit that sofa I never recover. Good luck! You can do it :cheer2:

Mel-happy belated birthday! I'm so glad your DD tests came out o.k. Let us know what was up with the balloons.

Yesterday I did 2.75 with a 14:31 pace that included warm up. I'm slowly getting back to where I was before my wogging sebatical. Today is xt so probably going to the gym for the bike & weights.

I have been a total slug. :sad2: I was on such a roll through Sunday, then nothing. I didn't do my yoga & strength on Monday, or my wog yesterday.

Monday - no excuse really. Can I count taking Zack to swim class? I mean, I had to hold him up while he's learning to swim...

Tuesday - again no real excuse. Of all days, I should have gone out and gotten rid of some stress. If anyone is from New England, I'm sure you heard about the Big Dig tunnel collapse in Boston. Well, when there's a huge story like that, you get absolutely slammed when you work at a tv station. I paid dearly yesterday for all my usual down time (internet, reading, etc. time) on a normal day! So what do I do when I get home? Nap while Zack is napping since I am exhausted? Do my scheduled wog? No! I decided to organize coupons & watch Roseanne reruns! Then I stay up until after 9pm and get only 6 hours sleep again.

I have to get out of this rut. I am feeling even more sluggy today.

On top of that, I now realize I am not the young 'un I was! :lmao:

Helen - Hang in there!!! Sending more kitty dust! :wizard: Hope you had some kleenex when youread RB, it's a killer.

Cam - SO sorry about your ds!! Glad he sounbds fine and Howard can check on him tonight!

Kristi - I don't think 2 days off makes you a slug, but don't let that continue, or, trust me, you'll regret it! :goodvibes

Tiff- Way to get back on track! Trust me, I know how ough it is to get mback with your pace again.

Jodi! Way to go on making that first step!!!

monte - CLeaning is one heck of a cross train!!!

Dana - WHat about a french braid. That worked best fo rme in hs. If it's too bouncy, maybe you could turn that into a bun.

OK everyone who is having a hard time getting motivated.....Do I need to unleash the evil queen? This is a pic from my 1st WDW marathon in 2004, but it is still scarry!
wdw_marathonevilqueen.jpg

Just in case you don't know...I got the name "Evil Queen" of running from Bree (who ran w/ me b/4 she went and got preg!). She would want to slack and I would push her to finish...we had a great time! So when you want to skip training...think of "EQ" and I will throw Jafar in for good measure! :goodvibes

Cam - lots of :wizard: :wizard: for your DS and you!

Susie - Lots of :wizard: :grouphug: to you about your kitty.

Helen - Hope the vet finds out something soon for your kitty! :grouphug: :wizard:

About the age thing......When I turned 25...I stopped there and I still tell everyone I am 25...but I am NOT! :rotfl2: Now that my baby brother (who is 8 years younger than me) is 26 I may have to at least go up to 30...or maybe not. If I am going to fib about my age...why not go all out? :rotfl:

Dana - WHat about a french braid. That worked best fo rme in hs. If it's too bouncy, maybe you could turn that into a bun.
Dana - that is a great idea! For my tri's, and for the goofy, I french braided my hair into piggy tails.....It works great!

Christa - If my math is right, we're the same age. Are you saying I'm old and should lie about it??? :rotfl:

Speaking of Evil Queens and motivation and such...WHere is the dog catcher????? (That would be Lily Last year she was teh best rounder-upper of slacking pupppies!)

Yes, Evil QUeen, please come to MI. You can get 3 for 1 if you come this weekend! :thumbsup2

I have been meaning to ask you where the Evil Queen thing came from!

And since we are the same age, I think I'll go with 25 also. ;)

Oh what a morning I've had! I was driving my car to work (a 2003 Saturn Ion, so not a junker car or anything) and everytime I would stop at a traffic light, my car would start shaking like it was going to stall when I stepped on the break. I thought, hmm, I'm going to have to call Stephen when I get to work and let him know it's doing this. I get on the I-75, cruising along with traffic, about 2 miles from my exit traffic started slowing down, as I was breaking, my car started shaking again and a light on my dashboard starting flashing. I started praying and saying, just 2 more miles, 2 more miles, traffic stopped in front of me, so I of course stopped too, when traffic started going again and I tapped my gas pedal, my car started shaking, lights were flashing on the dashboard, my RPM's were going crazy and my car died. On 75-S, in the middle lane, and in rush hour traffic!!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I kept trying to get my car to start, but it wouldn't, I ended up calling Stephen and he called 911 and AAA. I was in the middle lane with cars flying around me and honking at me ( :confused3 ) for about 20 minutes before the state trooper made it over and pushed me to the side of the road. The police stayed with me until Stephen came and about 20-25 minutes later a tow truck came and towed my car to the Saturn dealership. My hands are still shaking over 2 hours later!!!!

Jodi--Good for you for getting on the treadmill! My secret is to go home, go straight upstairs and change into running clothes and go. If I stop for even a minute, I'm done for the night.

Cam-- :wizard: :wizard: for your son!! How scary!! I'm glad that he is doing okay. :cheer2: on another sub 13:00 mile!!

Susie-- :wizard: :grouphug: :wizard:

Monte--Wanna come and clean my house?? :teeth:

Kevin--I KNEW you would remember the whole birthday thing. I was talking to Stephen about it, about a month or so ago, and he said he would just come on here and wish me a happy birthday and know one would remember. I said, you can't do that, Kevin will remember!!!!! :bitelip:

I better get started on my work, I was an hour late this morning. I really wanted to just go back home, but I came in anyway.

Good morning, everyone!
Thanks for the good wishes for DS. I still can't believe he is 13 today! For those of you going to DL, you'll get to meet him. He is the most amazing kid. I have never met someone with his generous heart and bright-as-a-thousand-stars smile! He was very intent on convincing me last night that he is fine.
I have to thank Sunny again for directing me to the great cafepress website. I have ordered all sorts of awesome stuff there including a tee shirt for DS that has a cartoon character boy in full speed forward and it says "cross country" under the cartoon. DS is a cross country runner so I bought that and a new pair of black & white running shorts for him for his birthday and sent them to him at "college". We are also buying him a really good bike that he'll pick out himself. Soooo glad he is coming home Friday.

Ooops, sorry to go :offtopic: ! Today is supposed to be a rest day for me, but I think I'll go to the gym and ride a bike with a good book for a while, since my exercise minutes this month are very low (though the intensity is higher than ever with 2 5Ks so far and a few good TM jogging sessions).

Our next 5K is on the 22nd and it is for the Blood Bank of Delmarva. It was a great event last year and another cause about which we are passionate. Howard was honored at the BB's 50th anniversary celebration as one of their "Heroes" for being a lifesaver donor. He tries to schedule his blood donations every 56-60 days and has donated more than anyone we know. :thumbsup2 Wogging a 5K is the least I can do.

Krista -- OMG!!! What an absolutely terrifying experience that must have been. I am thanking God that you are safe and sound. You must have felt very vulnerable and scared the whole time. I hope the rest of your day is quiet and peaceful and very uneventful. AND I hope that the problem with your car isn't anything major. :grouphug:

Kristi-- DD and I took the Big Dig tunnel for the first time on Sunday to get to the Iron Girl 5K. I was explaining to her how some of the tunnel goes under the ocean and last year it sprung a leak during "dead-stop" rush hour and people were stuck sitting in their cars watching water gush in. That freaked us both out. I couldn't believe it when I heard the collapse. How scary. That poor woman who died.

Krista-- how scary! I'm glad you are alright. What a head ache. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to get you through your day!

By bedtime last night I had pain on both sides. I was worried about how I would do the pelican walk if both legs had to be up, but fortunately I woke to the standard right-leg pain. I'm just so scared this is going to side-line me for Applefest and WDW. I am so anxious to do a semi-long run to find out where I stand.

Cam-- Happy B-day for DS. Now he can join you in the weight-room at the Y

Sunny

Morning all.... :sunny:

If a person can die from exhaustion, I just might. I'm soooo tired. I had a hard time keeping my eyes open driving to work today. Last night we had to run some errands and I was freezing but I felt hot. I think I really hit a wall. So I was glad today is a rest day. :o

:offtopic: For those of you following my MIL stories, here's a little ditty for you....

First some facts...As you know, this vacation is a command performance We weren't asked if we wanted to go. We were told we were. MIL booked this villa for three weeks and we told her there is no way we can stay that long. We said one week, so she booked us for ten days. My husband has four children and he shares joint custody with his ex. They have a very adversarial relationship. The second youngest girl, Lauren, is 12. Lauren asked if she could stay the whole three weeks. DH said he'd think about it but decided it was not a good idea, for reasons which I'm sure you can figure out. But apparently MIL went ahead and changed Lauren's ticket without asking DH. So she has her coming back two weeks after us, when she comes back. Now, DH has to have written permission from the ex to take the children out of the country, otherwise he can be arrested for kidnapping. He has permission for ten days. Not three weeks. He told his mother to please change the ticket back. She starts yelling at him because there is a $200 charge for that. Well, she shouldn't have changed it in the first place! And now, the plane is full, so she can't change it back. DH is NOT happy. :furious:

Mel - Oh I'm glad to hear it's just a "boring" cyst. In this case, that's really good news! OMG! The in-laws story! That's just too much! :lmao: Ha ha ha ha ha! Why did they buy there in the first place????

Helen - Oh sorta good news on the furbaby. Yes, please do keep us posted. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Anne - Hey, I'm older then Sunny! I've got a few years on her! But if you are only as old as you feel.......I must be about 78 today. I need to sleeeeeep,,,,,,, What do you mean you can't keep up with me? I doubt that! I feel way under-trained at this point. As soon as I get back I am ramping up. :woohoo:

Jackie - How is it possible you have looked into my fantasies??? If only my MIL would walk in front of a bus. Ok, I know that was really mean, but I ain't feelin' any love for her today. She's being a real Piece Of Work.

Jodi - Work always gets in the way, doesn't it? We have to figure out a way to eliminate that. :teeth:

Carrie - That's good advice you gave Jodi. I know if I tried to train after work, it just wouldn't happen. I literally went years trying to do it after work. That's why I have to just get up early and do it. Otherwise it would just never happen. But yeah, don't sit down Jodi. Just keep moving.

Susie - OMG nooooooo! That is incredibly sad....

Cam - Hey, that sounds like a great pace to me!! :thumbsup2 Oh no! DS13! PD that he is fine, which I'm sure he probably is, but I'm glad Howard is going. Wow, that Howard IS a hero! Donating all that blood. :worship: I can't find any 5Ks around here.

Pat - You are, as always, an inspiration. I don't FEEL old, but once in a while it dawn on me that I'm getting up there.

Christa - I know I'm scared! :scared: Actually, when I am slug-like, it gets me going to think of you when I was in the Diary Aisle of Stop & Shop. I remember how excited I was when you finished and I thought "Man, I want to do that some day" and now I am on my way to doing it! I can't give up now! :woohoo:

Krista - Oh no! What was wrong with it? And more importantly, was the officer good-looking??? :teeth: I love a man in uniform! Seriously though, I'm glad you're OK. That's scarey. And not in a Jafar kind of way.

Sunny -- I hadn't thought of DS now having more extensive YMCA privileges. I actually checked and he has to be 14 to use the fitness center, unless he takes a $100 course called "Strong Enough" that meets for an hour a week, for 8 weeks, I think. So, I am going to look into that, though he will be so busy with an intense courseload this fall and cross-country.

Judy -- I can really see how your MIL could drive you nuts. I am sorry that you can't really look forward to being in Italy since you will have to put up with her. I really hope your DH can work things out between your MIL and his ex. What a mess! I am also hoping you can take a nice long nap on your trans-Atlantic flight to be well-rested by the time you arrive at your "vacation" :grouphug:

Oh, and since we are all comparing ages, I have to admit I will be 43 3 weeks from tomorrow. The good thing is that I feel better (and younger) now than I have in many, many years. :dancer:

I have to agree. I'm definitely younger in my 40s than I was in my 30s ;) :goodvibes

Off to the gym now...

Sunny - Be acareful at the gym. I really worry about you. :goodvibes

Krista - Oh my gosh!!! That is awful. I am so grateful that you are ok!!!! Tell Stephen he must give you extra hugs tonight!!!

Yikes, Krista stalled on 75, tunnell falling. Perhaps everyone shold just go hoem and stay inside for a few weeks. :confused3 Not Heather or solo though! Can't wait to meet up this weekend!

Thanks for the concern :grouphug:

I did mild lower body weights and a 5K on the TM in 30:10. That included my warm up walk, so I'm very happy with that time. I feel great right now. I did lots of stretching. Time will tell...

Sunny

Sunny - I just looked at your Cafepress site and I was :rotfl2: at the "cranky mom" stuff. My children and husband tell me that all the time. I have got to get something...no DH has got to... :rotfl:

Krista - OUT OF CONTROL! I would have freaked out! So glad you are OK. Why do people blow the horn when it is easy to see that you are having problems and not just setting in the middle of 75! :confused3

Swam today. Did a mile in around 45 min. Forgot to start and stop watch so that is why I say around.
Now I did not say I was old or that anyone has to say they are 25 (when in fact they are 34)...that is just my way of repressing the truth about me getting older. :teeth: And I am in better shape than I was at 25 (but I was preg..) Heck, I am in better shape than when I was any other age!

Cam-- Glad to hear your son is on the medn and it wasn't something more serious. :wizard: for you all and Happy Birthday to DS.

Krista-- YIKES!! about the car. Hope it isn't something serious. And yes, I would have totally remembered about the birthday thing. :teeth:

Judy-- Ugh..... just ugh. :grouphug:

Y'all, it's HOT outside. :smooth: I was scheduled to do a quick shoulder workout and then run four miles. The shoulder workout was great, but when I hit the roads at 2:15 this afternoon... not so great. My 4 miler instantly became 3 before I even set out and I ended up running 2.75 miles at about 9:55/mile pace. I did most of the run on the cross country trails here, so that's not the worst time in the world, but it was sheer struggle with the humidity. Since I once again slept through running in the morning and I have interviews scheduled all afternoon, it was really the only time to do it. DEFINATELY waking up earlier tomorrow morning!!

Well, off to interview mono-syllabic college freshmen....
Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Krista - WOW! That is crazy! Glad you are ok, that must have been totally scary.

Judy - hope it all works out and you can have fun with the MIL...

I bought a new pair of shoes yesterday! :cool1: I actually wore out the first pair, never thought I'd do something like that. My final shoe choices ended up being ASICs and Brooks. I went with the Brooks. They felt good on the 4 mile run this morning. I'm still having some outer hip pain, I think from improper stretching so I'm running easy and doing more swimming. I hope it heals soon.
