Wk of Dec 2--WISH Walking/Running Club

We missed ya' Vic!!! :thumbsup2

Cam - Good plan. I'd lean towards 20.5 or 21. ;)

Judy - SO, you're jumping from a 9-mile max to 13? That's almost 50%. (Yes, it is on total week's mileage, but it still seems like a huge jump to me.) Did you read Krista's article? ALthough I know many who tained for teh full added 2 miles to their 20 miler and were ok, please remeber that what you're suggesting is like adding 4 to teh full training compared to your training so far. If you feel you MUST go more, don't go more than an extra mile. Just my overly worrisome opinion. :goodvibes

Christa - :rotfl2: "Do what I type..." The differnce her is that your body has been doing this stuff (those distances) much longer than ours. So, I completely undertand when you do it. ALso, you use a plan that work syou up to that distance IIRC. Finally, you speak as someone who's not the world's laziest marathoner. ;)

Cam - Have you called the resort? DId you check the scret pocket on the garment bag? :p Not speaking from expereince or anything. ;) Writing my letter to sant for you now.

Note: Just randomly adding miles right now is not likely best. I see where you are coming from, truly I do. However, there's a diff btwn picking a plan that maxes at 24 and is longer to accomodate for such and just adding miles to your long run at the end. I know many have done it, but if your body tells you no, please listen. Stepping off of soap box.

No no! I've been paying attention to everyone here. :teeth: That LR would normally be 11 miles. So I was just going to make it 13. But my concern was that is was three weeks before the Half. is that too close?

The most you have done before is 9 miles, right? So, you are going from your longest run before your next one being 9 and then adding 2 miles to teh 11-miler to make it 13. (That would be the same as a full marathoner doing a longest run of 18 and jumping to 24 miles for our next one) I would stick to 11, but if you have to do more, don't add more than 1 mile, making it a 12-miler. That would be comparable to the people who didi 22-milers for the full instead of 20.

That time frame is fine. Having your longest run at 3 weeks before should let you taper just fine. That still seems like a huge jump to me, though.

Hey Judy, I agree with Carrie, those two extra miles (if you decide to do 13) will mean nothing at this point, but a solid 11 miles will allow your body to repair and restore and that will be worth millions! :thumbsup2

Vic, welcome back. Hope DW is feeling better.

Cam, did I read correctly, you did 20 miles in the morning and then another 5k that evening?? :cool1:

Ran an easy 4 miles today and now I am off until my half-marathon on Saturday on Kiawah Island. IT band is starting to act up again. I foolishly tried a new pairs of shoes Brooks Adrenalin. I think they had too much stability for me because I have a little lower knee pain that is new! Those are going back.

Colleen

OK! My short run was supposed to be around 6 miles today but......
I got to 5.80 and a boys weight training class came in to the WO room....well I couldn't just stop as soon as they came in b/c they didn't know I was running an 8 something min mile (7.5 on the TM...not sure how fast that is).....so I pushed it up to an 8 on the TM and did another mile.....
Why, not sure...maybe I want to prove something or  I am just stupid. :rotfl2: Not sure what I need to prove to a bunch of 16 YO boys. :confused3 Maybe it wasn't the class but it could have been that "Pour Some Sugar On Me" came on...good song to run to.

Dave/nipple boy - you do know since many of us have never met, we are forming mental pics of everyone right now. Guess what my mental picture of you is :cool1: ...Batman. I had to have this same discussion w/ vic last week when we started in on the body hair talk!! Oh, and, btw, hair freezes when it is in the 20's and sweaty!! (or at least mine does) You would think that all the salt from the sweat would make it melt, but maybe it just makes it more cold. i'll ask phil about that one!!

Vic – SO glad you had a good trip. Hope DW is back to 100% now.

Dear Santa,
Cam has been such a good girl, please bring her a brand new sparkly Garmin...

Aren’t you sweet, Judy, but could you ask him to be sure it is the one with lime green trim and lettering? I am not sure they are all like that. And, well, it just wouldn’t be the same without lime green, ya know?

Carrie – I have checked every pocket of every bag, but am also going to call the resort. UGH!!! Now is when I wish there were a secret pocket in my mickey tapestry overnight bag to check! :(

Yes. A little insane, right? Have I told you how passionate I am about the work of Special Olympics? When it came right down to it, having paid the registration fee would not have satisfied me. I had to put some sweat into it too. I know I am  Good luck with your half, and I hope your IT twinge gets better quickly.

Christa – You crack me up! Those 16 y.o. boys were probably checking you out! :cool1:

Okay, so we have Dave/NippleBoy and we have Stephen/Ice Man and we have Vic/Strong Nose Hair Guy. Who am I missing?

Craig/Pirate Extraordinaire

Anyone else wanna step up to be counted/nicknamed?

Hey, how come only the boys have nicknames?
Because the girls just haven't said anything silly like the boys have. :rotfl2: :lmao:

IIRC, isn't Christa teh Evil Queen of running?

Well last year it was snot rockets & farmers blow.... This year rubber suits, nipples & nose hair :rotfl2: What a group we are. :grouphug:

So is Kevin going to wear his speedy tights & run with Dave in his rubber Batman suit?

I was supposed to do 4 miles today but my tendonitis in the ankle was really hurting when I got up this a.m. so I'm hoping to get it in tommorow.

Cam-no not all Garmins have the lime green. Mine does but Mom's is red & we got them from the same place. :confused3 And yes shopping is XT!

Colleen-Good luck with your 1/2!! Hope your IT gets better fast :wizard:

With all this talk about taper madness, lets not forget taper PARANOIA, which I have started big time.

I am not normally a germaphobic person, but I have already been wiping my phone at work with one of those anti-bacterial wipes (I am the only one that ever uses my phone!!). I've already bought Airborne to take before my company Xmas party and for the flight down to Orlando. I'm having DH do most of the Christmas shopping, so I am not in the malls for extended periods (ok I still go to the mall - I am not TOTALLY nuts!). When someone at work cleared his throat I took two steps backward! Every car on the road is a potential hazard! (I was actually bumped from behind when I was stopped at a light last year just before I left for the half!). I am being so careful out walking in the snow packed parking lots. I even think to be careful carrying the laundry downstairs to the washer. Gosh, I am driving myself nuts sometimes!!

But it will be so worth it when I get that Mickey medal!!

Happy training to all my wonderful WISH teammates!

Ok, I was skimming & maybe I missed this, but I just saw this on allears:

The Riverside Mill Food Court at Port Orleans Riverside will be closed from January 2 until mid-April for refurbishment. The food court will continue to offer a VERY limited menu for breakfast and dinner and a small number of "grab-and-go" items at lunch during the refurbishment.

Isn't this where we are meeting Friday night?! Is that still a go?

I am lovin' the nicknames! These boys need shirts with their new WISH names on them!!! :rotfl:

Back on topic, I just got back from 40 mins. on the bike at the Y.

Hopefully, I can get 8 hours sleep tonight since I am playing hookie tomorrow. Chad has an all-day test thing with Verizon, so I am using one of my many sick days that I am going to lose at year end. :teeth:

Hi Team!! This is just a drive-by post as some of you were wondering how my appointment with the sports med doc went. Well....I'm still not running :guilty: and they think it's a combination of things causing the nerve to be compressed and causing my pain. Piroformis Syndrome, Tilted Pelvis and a 2 cm leg length discrepancy. Basically, my right leg is a mess :(. I can walk with less pain now so that is certainly an improvement :) (trying SOOO hard to look on the bright side). Pretty much one of those things that's hard to diagnose and difficult to treat. I can run...basically....when there is no pain. Great! I'm starting to completely freak out. This week my schedule...instead of training...is like this:

Mon: Sports Med Doc (diagnosed w/ above issues)
Tues: Physical Therapy Appt. (ouch!) and Sports Massage/Stretching Appt.
Wed: Chiropractor
Thurs: Phys. Therapy again
Fri: Podiatrist

Soooo....does any of that count as XT or training ???? In all seriousness I'm going to do pilates tomorrow and thurs and yoga on friday.

This past weekend instead of my 18 mile long run....I did an 8 mile long walk. My butt muscles are sooo sore. Wow...didn't realize how different those muscle groups must be LOL! I give MAJOR kudos to all you marathon walkers out there. Wow..... that is TOUGH work! I'm really impressed with you folks who walk...anyone who says it's easy is CRAZY!!!!!

Just a few people I need to shout out:

Judy: :grouphug:

Krista: How are your legs feeling?

Dave: nananananananananaaaaa BATMAN!!!!! *POW* *SMASH* :rotfl2:

Jodi: How are you doing? :grouphug: I truly know what you're going through!!! I hope your injuries are beginning to feel MUCH better!

Cam: Wow...you are a machine!!! Goodness girl...please be careful with those miles!

Ok...gotta' try to catch up with you guys tomorrow. I'm having serious issues with the reality that I might not be able to run the marathon. But it's important for me to touch base and see how everyone is doing.

Amy - that is pretty much how my body is built too!! It is usually my left right leg that hurts, but my left leg is longer (i think i can't remember) Anyway, this year (since last february) my left booty has been sore and sometimes my left hamstring. Anyway. I feel your pain. I do some stretches for pirformis synd and they seem to help. I hope you get better over the next few weeks. You have put in the steps and it is pretty much taper time anyway. Don't worry, you'll be able to do it.

Ok, just feeling a little out of whack right now. I haven't started taper madenss yet, so that can't be the reason. So MelR I have to ask, which is your "left right leg?" Do you have a right left leg, too? :teeth:
