Wk of Dec 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning everyone. I have good news!

After a very long period of negotiation...we have an accepted offer on Mist! YAY! I don't have to return her! :woohoo: Isn't this the BEST Christmas present ever!!!

Mist6.jpg

I've been icing the ankle and trying to take it easy. I don't know if wrapping presents, doing laundry, food shopping and stable chores are considered "taking it easy", but there you have it.

I did take yesterday off from training but this morning I did only 15 min on the TM @ 3.6 and 15 min on the stationary bike. It hardly seemed worth getting out of bed for. I don't think I like this tapering business. It makes me anxious. :hyper:

Mel - I have really wide feet and low arches. I don't think I'm so built for shock-absorbtion either.

Jen - Thank you! I did it outside. It was so nice out here last weekend! I don't really like doing L/Rs on the TM. It's good for during the week but I crave my outside runs on Sat morning. Say Jen, I'm thinking my Kayanos may have caused the tendonitis I now have in my ankle. I think I need more underneath my foot, more support. I'm too heavy for light-weight shoes.

Christa - I really wanted to KNOW I could do it, now just THINK I could. I really feel ready now. YAY! :cheer2:

Oh Sunny - Noooooo! Oh no. I just can't believe this. Not now. Oh you poor thing.... :wizard:

Howard - You're like the only one doing anything around here anymore. It's like we're all standing around watching you work. :rotfl:

Nancy - Hang out with us anyway! We miss you around here. :wave2:

Hey Krista - Wanna come over and do my house now??? :rolleyes1

Last night I re-read the last 3-4 chapters of MfM on preparing for the race. It was giving me goosebumps. I'm getting so excited for the race. I really can't imagine what it's going to be like to be at the starting line. I can't believe I'm going to do this.

Dave - There's a part in one of the last chapters that brings tears to my eyes. I get so excited reading it! I must be just a big baby. I can't believe I'm doing this either. People are amazed I ran 13 miles last Saturday. Believe me - no one is more amazed than me! :teeth:

Jodi - Yes he did. Rest, ice, Motrin or Advil. That's about it. :thumbsup2 He did tell me if it still hurts by the 29th that I should come in for a Cortisone shot so it won't hurt for the race.

Tiff - Oh no! Not you too! I'm sorry to hear your sick. :wizard: Say, when you had tendonitis do you remember how long it lasted?

Cam - Oh no! That's not what I was hoping to hear from you today. Maybe you're right. Maybe now you will start to feel better. :wizard: Oh this stinks.

Cecilia - I can't believe this! You too? :wizard: Holy cow! It's like an epidemic around here! Oh you poor thing...

Oh Minnie - That's so funny! My stepchildren used to call me Miss Judith for a long time when they first met me. Of course, now that's totally over with. I am doing better today. :goodvibes Certainly now since I am the proud momma of Miss Mist!

Steve - Hey, I like your style! :thumbsup2

Judy - That's a wonderful Christmas gift!!! MAde my CHristmas merrier already!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Yeah, take it easy is kind of hard right now. :grouphug:

Cecelia - :wizard: That you're better soon!

:wizard: :wizard: To all who are sick!

:wizard: To all who are not sick that they won't get sick.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To anyione who gets any of us sick, especially Steve. they're gonna' need it. :p

Judy -- I am in tears for you and Mist! So, so happy that our prayers were answered. What an amazing blessing!

I certainly hope I don't get sick between now and January 5th. If I come up missing, drain the pond in front of Stephen's work!!!!

Judy--That is WONDERFUL!!!! Definitely the best Christmas present ever! I am so happy for and Mist!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

I'd love to come and clean everyone's house for them, but mine still needs some work. On tap for tonight (once I get home from the Community Center): vacuum upstairs, clean the 3 bathrooms, and continue on with laundry.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for Cam, Cecilia, Dana, Sunny and everyone else who is sick or dealing with sick families!!!!

YAH JUDY!!! You will have to put a BIG bow on her neck and take a picture. Oh and put a Santa Hat on her head!!!!!! By the way, I run in the Asics Nimbus, which are the step down from the Kayanos. I haven't had any problems with my feet or ankles until the 10 mile and 11 mile run. I am wondering if the constant pounding of my weight on my feet is the problem. Tho the running store recommended these shoes for my, even at my weight. Maybe they never thought that "I" could be a long distance runner. Can't wait to see you in the Corrals!!!

Oh and this week I am using the making Christmas presents, cleaning, baking etc as my cross training. I don't have enough time in the day/night to get everything done. My stress levels are through the roof! I plan to get a 6-8 mile run in this weekend tho, I just have to!!!!

Hi Everyone-

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the Pixie dust!!!!

Judy - I can not imagine how excited and happy you are. I know I yelled out loud when I read the news and I have never even met Mist! If your news gets me this happy you must be over the moon!

Well, I managed to get in 4 of my 6 miles on my plan today. I could have run more, but I don't want to push myself too hard while I am sick. The plan today called for marathon speed so I ran them as fast as I could figuring fatigue from the cold would slow me down. WRONG. I ran 4 in 36:30. Ooops, thats a little faster than marthon speed. Not to mention it was on hills. This taper business is going to be interesting. Imagine what I could have run if I could breathe through my nose!

Now I need to clean the house..... come on taper give me some energy!
Cecilia

Hi Everyone, I've been lurking in your threads for a month or so and have really enjoyed following along with everyones training, good or bad. I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck on your upcoming marathon(s), and I hope to see lots of pictures and trip reports as soon as its over!

I took up slogging last summer to lose some weight and am thinking of trying the marathon next year. My longest run so far was 8.1 miles Saturday in just over 82 minutes, I was going for 10, but I was freezing! Theres a half marathon locally to me in May, I think I can be ready for that.

I'll probably go back into lurking mode for now, but I'll definately join your group for next year. Trying to talk my wife into this too, maybe the half for her, who knows. Again, good luck to everyone, have safe travels and a great race!

Hey Mark!

Stick around. You don't have to be training for the WDW marathon to post. Keep us updated on your progress.

Good job on the 8.1.

To all of you sickies - Now I have a non-productive cough and chest congestion! Its always something. :sad2:

MArk - Welcome!! SOunds liek you are off to a great start!! Feel free to hang with us now! If not, we'll be looking for you January 8! :D

Confession:

Anyone have get Meijer commercials in your area? We have one that has people being excited abotu odd gifts. One of them is a teen-sounding girl whou says, "Nose Hair Clippers. Just what I wanted." It just makes me crack up these days!

I told you to stay away from that Communications Center! :love1:

:rotfl:

Oh thank you everyone! I'm so excited! :yay: Aren't I the luckiest girl in the world!?!?! :woohoo:

YAY JUDY!!! AND MIST!!!
I don't even like animals & I am so excited for you both! Well, it's not that I don't like them per se - it's that I am deathly allergic to them, esp. horses & cats!
:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Vic - feel better soon! :wizard:

Sunny - more :wizard: for you too - you've been through too much this year!

Mark - :welcome:

Krista - please had me to the house cleaning list! ;) If you could only see my house now. You'd think with a hubby that works one day a week (until yesterday anyway) that it would be semi-clean. Good thing he's cute!

Since Chad will be home alot more now, getting to the Y should be no problem. I plan on hitting there later for some bike xt.

I'm afraid to go in there. It's reminds me of the movie, "The Night of the Living Dead." :lmao:

Glad to hear about Mist. A great Christmas present indeed.

Carrie - I could use those nose hair clippers! :thumbsup2

Kristi - Thanks!

Vic -- I swear I didn't give it to you, even though I have the same now. I had to wait a week for my cold to progress to this lousy state. How long have you been sick?

Mark -- welcome and don't go! We may seem like a scary bunch right now, but I promise we are normally pretty . . . er, normal. Wellllll, maybe I shouldn't make promises like that. :teeth: Some of those other post-ers are actually pretty normal, though.

Great run, though! That is a great distance and an awesome pace. Just think of where you will be even a couple of months from now! Hoping to see you in Disney in '08 but around here between now and then, for sure!

Great job, Cecilia, but I can see we are going to have to rein in your inner racehorse, too. You are as bad as Howard! Take it easy and don't beat your body up, especially right now when it is vulnerable.

lol, yes, I must admit I thought of you first! :teeth:

:welcome: Mark! May I introduce you to Batman, Iceman and our national champion, ZebraButt  We'd love to see you and DW along for the ride next year! You definitely have plenty of time to train for a half in May.
What kind of swogging are you doing?

Judy...Congratulations on Mist! :grouphug: That is such exciting news! :cheer2:

Dana...yeah, right there with ya. We're having an awful lot of :beach: for winter this year. Normally, that's fab for me, but now I'm worrying that I havent done a LR in anything less than 65 degrees. Makes those 35 degree starts so much more fun

Jen...I think we're doing the same kind of XT this week. I'm feeding 20 people on Xmas...at some point, I should probably start cleaning, go grocery shopping, etc... :rolleyes1

Cam...if you're getting worse instead of better after one week, you should definitely see someone. I'm torn on the stress test...probably would be a good idea to go and see if they'll do it anyway for a final check before the full. And the pulmonologist would be a good person to check you out, make sure you're not brewing something in your lungs.

Sonny...a pulmonologist might be a good idea for you too. It may just be bad luck, but you're a bit young and healthy for 2 bouts of pneumonia in one year.

Minnie...DH had similar problems with his BS. It was very project oriented and really hard to get everyone involved.

Krista...we'll be sure to check if you don't show up for the full ;)

:wizard: :wizard: to everyone who's sick. I still have fingers crossed...DH and DD13 both went through it last week. I'm staying away from them...no sympathy :teeth: Instead, I'm having wicked allergy attacks...congestion, post-nasal drip, headache...big fun!

Cecilia...you've tickled a brain cell. I'm going to have to look but I think I've read recently about increased training resulting in more colds and cooties.

I just did 3 miles last night on the TM. I think I'm at the point where I'm ready to go do this thing...the taper just seems like we're postponing the ultimate goal. I'm going to try to focus more on the holidays and try to keep the race off my mind.

Oh Judy that is totally awesome news!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Prayers were definitely answered :goodvibes

Mel - I just don't get these people. I mean good grief they are supposed to be students in a Master's program :furious:

Oh btw - I :lovestruc Sarasota when I got to vist there at the beginning of the month. Lido Key was gorgeous :sunny:

Chimera,
Hopefully I used the term swogging correctly, kind of a walk/jog combo? I have a really really old treadmill that is stuck on a slight incline and I can't jog continually on it, I have to jog a few minutes and walk a minute to catch my breath still. But, when I get on new flat treadmills, or go outside, I can jog without having to stop and walk at all.

I started doing a couple miles a day on the tm and slowly built up to 4-5 miles a day over about a 4 month period. Lately I just started jogging outside and I so hate the tm now. I much prefer the peace outside in the wee early morning hours. Too bad I waited until it was freezing outside to find that out!

I'm thinking my old tm will be fine this winter though as I start doing quarter miles on it to try and pick up my speed a little bit. I put a goal in my head to beat the 2:15 time in a half, and this summer we have a 7 mile race that is pretty big around here, my boss has challenged me to that one. He's older, but the typical atheletic type so its no big deal to him, I on the other hand am more of your typical desk type jockey, :surfweb: and have never ran further than the fridge until this year, lol.

Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome! Now I feel like running again! :)

Mark

Hey Mark - You're pretty funny! "further than the fridge"...sounds to me like you'll fit in just fine here. :goodvibes

I did most of my training for the Half on the TM. Last year I had ACL replacement surgery and started walking on the TM as part of my physical therapy. And look at me now! I was never - NEVER - athletically inclined. Now I'm an "adult onset endurance athlete". :thumbsup2 Shocking, but true!

Oh, and BTW, I have some advice for using the TM....TELEVISION! We put a small tv & DVD player on the wall in front of the tv. I watched a lot of good movies while I trained away. :teeth:

:welcome:
