Wk of Dec 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Matt - WTG on your long run! I found that I got stronger every time I repeated a distance. You'll be fine for the marathon.

Jen - OUCH! Bowling after a long run sounds very very painful.

Vic - WTG on your long run!

I just found out my roommate for Disney is running the half, so I will definately be there to cheer everyone on!

Dh just bought me a new watch for Christmas. Shhh. its a secret! I can't wait to play with it! I had to close my eyes while he tried it on my wrist since its a man's watch (easier to read while running)

Take care all!
Cecilia

Finals finished up on Friday afternoon. I went out to train on Saturday morning. Here is what I accomplished:

Mile 1: 7:16
Mile 2: 7:27
Mile 3: 12.11
Mile 4: 12:37
Mile 5: 12:06
Mile 6: 10:07
Mile 7: 10:04
Mile 8: 12:42
Mile 9: 14:04 (mostly walking)
Mile 10: 17:39 (walking)

I am hoping to get in a few miles tomorrow morning, early. I have work and I am donating blood early in the day. That will keep me from running for a while.

Thank you Lilly, Craig and Melissa who wrote to me with advise and support. I will see you all at the starting line soon.

All the best,

:grouphug:

ETA: Oops, maybe I could log in under my own name instead of Krista's. :)

T....A.....P.....E......R !!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :thumbsup2

Is anyone else just completely excited that we're this close??

Monica--so sorry about the 10K. You're smart to not risk getting sick, there will always be other races later.

Dave--20 strong miles. Nice job! It's a great confidence booster, huh?

Matt-WTG on the 20. I agree with everyone else, you'll be fine on Jan 7. Don't worry so much about the time goal. It's your first one, so it'd be a shame to belittle the accomplishment if you miss your goal time by 2 or 3 minutes.

Christa--sorry about the Panthers today. Actually, I'm not sorry at all. GO STEELERS! :)

Bill--oh, the dreaded sock problems. I feel your pain. Now you're going to give me yet one more thing to worry about for race day.

Vic--nice job on the 9. I can't believe you're already back to full-swing training after your ankle issue. Way to go!

Rhonda--80 degrees?? Wow, you should be good to go in three weeks no matter what the weather is like. I'm just picturing you out there running through the Sahara desert with the sand blowing and the sun beating down. :)

Well, I did it. Finished my final long back to back runs. I did 11 yesterday and 22 today. Finished the 22 miles in 3:43. Not my best time, but I'll take it. I started feeling really tired around mile 18, not hitting the wall, but just a general feeling of fatigue. I hadn't felt that since last year's marathon. As soon as the fatigue set in, I was thinking, "Oh yeah, hey there. I remember you. You're not so tough. I can beat this." (yeah, the mind was playing the crazy games  ) I'm not sure why it hit today and not on my 20 miler two weeks ago. I'm thinking the accumulation of overall weekly miles probably has something to do with it. But anyway, I'm finished, and it was a pretty good run to end with.
Krista already told you about her IT band issues. I felt really bad for her on Saturday when we were running together and she had to stop and walk the rest. I know she'll be fine in three weeks, and I keep trying to tell her that. Three weeks to rest the body is a good, long time.

Well, I'm off to watch my fantasy football team get killed in tonight's game. Good job on the LRs everyone, and to all those needing rest and nursing injuries--we're behind you all the way.

Steve

Total drive by...

It's official. I have the flu. I had a rapid flu culture done friday. I've had a fever for 4 days (not straight, it peaks, breaks and buids). It's been as high as 103.2 :furious: The dr who saw me on Friday said my lungs sounded fine...

Well they're not. I'm coughing to the point of cracking a rib and coughing up horrible brown stuff. Sorry for TMI. I just can't believe I'm this sick AGAIN. There's been no training, no Christmas preparations and there's no way I can give the talk I'm supposed to give on Tuesday. I'll call tomorrow and probably go to the dr again to check if this is an infection. I'm sure it is. Once again Goofy's on the chopping block. :sad2: I can't imagine walking across a parking lot righ tnow.

I'm not sure if this was discussed before, so here goes...

Is anyone else doing the 5k on Friday? Chad & I are doing that also. He's absolutely  and going for what he calls his "trifecta" - 5k, Half & Full. Just wondering if I should be looking for any WISHers that morning.

Zack is doing the kids race on Friday (3 y.o. boys) too.
I know Jen said she'd be there with her kiddos. Anyone else?

Oh Sunny!

Get thee to the doc asap tomorrow, ok? Race or no race, you need those lungs to work! ;) Keep us posted, ok?

AND, the races are just under 3 weeks away. You can get better & do the races. You can hang with us cool penguins in the back of the pack if you absolutely have to, ok? And if you cannot race, you cannot race - your health is the most important thing. Disney will be there in 2008, 2009...

HANG IN THERE!!!

Now to catch up from yesterday.

Mel – 8 minutes faster is almost a minute per mile faster which is great. You would do great for the full especially with all the training that you have already done. I saw that the Courtyard looked close to the start but wasn’t sure if it was actually in a walkable spot. We will probably be staying there when we come over.

Kristi – Congrats on being able to get your run in. If you stop 500 times to take pictures, that would be about 38 pictures a mile. You could scale back to 25/mile just to be safe. 

Krista – Sorry about the run. I agree to take it easy and not try to worsen things before the marathon.

Dave – Good job on your long run and improving your times.

Jodi – Hope the shot helps out. Good luck with training this week.

Cecilia – Congratulations on getting your run in. Sometimes the shorter runs can be harder since you already know that you can do it and it almost seems like a waste.

Matt – Good job on the run. Glad the wall was pushed back for the run. With all the excitement at the actual race, you should be able to do fine.

Lily – You should be fine with Goofy this year. You actually know what is involved for the whole race from doing it last year. Each year should get easier for doing it.

Pat – Sorry to hear about the run but with all the training so far, you should be fine for the actual marathon.

Christa – Hope the recovery goes well. Make sure that DH doesn’t get you sick now.

Jen – 132 laps, wow, I would either lose count or get too dizzy to go on.

Vic – Congrats on the good run and being on your training pace.

Rhonda – Good job on the run. Hope the blisters heal quickly.

Howard – Congrats on the training and for finally being done for the semester. Hopefully they will be a little easier next year.

Steve – Congrats on your back to back run. You are in good shape for the Goofy now. Yep I think I am going to figure a way to carry an extra pair during the race just in case.

Sunny – Sorry to hear you are sick. Hopefully you can get over it by race time. Lisa may have hints on how to do the race while sick.

Bill

Hi guys! No training for me this weekend. I took my DDs to the Nutcracker Ballet and shopping for Christmas presents for each other. I wrapped about 40 presents today and still have way too many to go. I will try to get in some short runs this week and a LR on Sunday. I had a nightmare last night about the marathon. In my nightmare, my DH and about 20 other marathoners were put on a small track and we had to run our 26.2 miles around the small track. I gave up after a few miles. There was no way I could run around that track for 26.2 miles! The good news for my fellow WISHers Pat, Carrie, Lily, Terri, and TiffJ is that in my dream you all finished and had medals! Terri & Lily- no worries, you both got the Goofy. :thumbsup2

Sunny- Sending lots of PD :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that you get better soon. No pneumonia! No pneumonia! :wizard: :wizard:

Kristi- This is from last week, but I love the autographed hat! When I saw the photos I cheered. :cheer2: Plus I was glad that we did not have to use the "bail fund."

Judy- Prayers and PD :wizard: as you and Mist go through trying times this week.

Lily- I think it's time for the cheer again! :cheer2:

Gotta go read some bedtime stories. DDs want me to add the dancing banana before I sign off.   Catch up more tomorrow.

Sunny - lotts of :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: for you!

Krista - please rest! That is the BEST for the ITB...read a good writeup about it.ITB INFO You may already know this.
OH.....Panthers SUCK...I am so mad at them...did they even show up at the game today? They have really dropped the ball (HeHe) this year! SO GO STEELERS! :confused3

Bill I am so mean...I will only let him sit in one chair and I won't even touch him...I am even sleeping with DD8 tonight. :rolleyes1

Question:
Is making cookies from scratch then eating most of the RAW COOKIE DOUGH xtraining.....
I did clean my bike chain and pump up my bike wheels....that was a work out today....stupid me pinched my leg on the pump while pumping up the wheels. :confused3 How does that happen? I have a nice raised bump that is blue b/c of it too.
Danced in a show today and the knee is fine. My legs are sore though...I cannot figure out why b/c I have done NOTHING!

Congrats to everybody for their LR's this weekend. Great job!
I can't believe we're only 3 weeks away.

Sunny - So sorry to hear you've got the flu. Rest and let it get out of your system. You still have time. And if you're not well enough, there's always next year. The important thing is to get you feeling better ASAP!

I have a question for those of you who also train on the elliptical machine. How do the miles equate to running? I don't think they're equal, but does does anyone have an idea of a comparison (i.e. 3 miles on the ellip=2 miles running?)

Is anyone eating at Tony's in MK on Saturday of race weekend?

Terri

Just wanted to mention my splits from the 20 miler in case anyone is in my ballpark and might be looking for me marathon morning at a certain speed... Even numbered miles are longer because I let the clock run while I walked and took 8oz of gatorade and later on chowed down a snickers marathon bar. Later miles are longer because well, I was slower, and walked a few short stretches. And last split is only .7 so it's faster.

9:15, 9:45, 9:24, 9:52, 10:03, 10:22, 10:05, 10:34, 10:21, 10:35, 10:12, 10:25, 10:36, 10:12, 10:45, 10:34, 10:50, 11:17, 11:59, 7:37

Avg was 10:23mpm. Well over my 10mpm goal, but in a half marathon last week I avg'd 8:54, so I'm hoping in a race atmosphere I'll be able to have a lot more miles under or right near the 10 mark and go for that 4:22:00 goal.

Sunny- I'm so sorry that you are sick again. :wizard: :wizard: That you get well fast!!!

There. I'm done. Finished. Thank goodness. Bring on the taper.

I swear, all these LWs during Christmastime have put me VERY far behind in my holiday chores. I won't bore you with the details, but I'm talking really, really far behind. I'm kinda resenting my training, but at least the hard part is over now.

Anyway, Saturday was 14.1 mile LW for me. Nothing remarkable about my time (3:05, 13:06 pace). But, it was a new route and I completely underestimated the distance (turned out to be 16 instead of 14). So I had a 2 mile cool down. :guilty:

I would have kept going at my race pace for the whole distance, but my knee felt funny. Never before in my life have I had knee "trouble," so this was weird for me. It just felt like I needed to get my right knee to "click." If I could just "click" or "crack" my knee I'd feel great. But I never did, so I was glad to stop at 14.1. :confused3

Good luck to everyone this week. Keep well.

Sunny--sorry to hear about the flu! :grouphug: Hope you get better soon!

I'm now realizing that my stonker on Sat. may have had a lot to do with me catching whatever the kids had last week. I spent Sat. night and most of yesterday on the couch. I feel tons better this morning, so we'll see if I get my 3 miler in today or not. I have to tweak my schedule a little this week, as we leave for the IL's on Thursday morning. Going to try to do my LR on wed. since DH is only working a 1/2 day. We'll see! Have a great Monday all!

Hi Team,

Total opinion question here. As you all know I've been having some soreness in my knee. Well, for the Goofy Challenge I am taking things slow, I will probably be doing a 12 or 13.00 min/mil with walking breaks and photos breaks here and there.

But --

The friend that is supposed to be running Goofy with me, had surgery right before Thanksgiving always told me that she would be fine for Goofy, well I just found out that she hasn't been completely honest with me. Her surgery was a major reconstructive surgery on her wrist (I didn't know that). Anyhow, she says that she is still going to do the Goofy and just do what she can......should I ask if she wants to back out? I'm not sure if it's me that is making her stay in or if she truly wants to stay in.

I just feel like such an awful friend......I had no idea what kind of surgery she had.....she always made it sound like nothing all that bad.

I'm curious about this too! I was trying to figure that out yesterday.

Krista – I hope your situation improves with the IT band. I feel your pain with the leg thing……I was telling my husband the other day that I felt so horrible about the whole knee thing…..I just wanted to do well but I feel like the knee is definitely holding me back. That coupled with being really busy at work was the reason that I hadn’t been on for awhile.

Everyone, remember to get your minds in this too. Don't be down about a bad moment in time. Visualize yourself making it through and over the finish line. Your determination helps your trainig now. We will make it!
I really needed to read this.

Jodi – Hope the shot helps out. Good luck with training this week.
Thanks Bill!

Sunny – Hope you feel better soon! :wizard:
