Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Jeanne - Just so you know, Amazon will do a price adjustment as long as it was purchased through them, not through another retailer through Amazon. They wound up adjusting the price on my Garmin.

Leana: Thanks for the info....what is the time period? I just got out my receipt. I ordered it directly through Amazon but placed the order 7/19, which makes me just over the 30-day limit, if there is one. It's only a ten dollar difference, but I bought 2 of them. With the extra $20 I could treat you to a drink after TofT!

Hi Guys.

I got in almost 2 miles today. DD6 starts dance again tomorrow night and I plan to walk the trail in the park near her studio for the 1 1/2 hours she is there. So hopefully I will have more miles to report on Wednesday.

Stephanie I live WAY out in the boonies. The nearest town you have probably heard of is Fort Smith.

DD seems to be doing well in college. Thanks Nancy for the offer of shipping "stuff":rotfl: I think I'll pass for now.

Have great runs -- I'll check back on Wednesday morn. with my coffee.:surfweb:

Dona

Thanks for the welcome back, guys :goodvibes

Renee, you know, I really do think it is just the particular area of NC I am in. Overall I have found people to be pretty friendly here, but on the jogging trail I use, I mostly just see college students, and in my experience they're not the most outgoing of folks (heehee, self included). Most everyone's just tuned into their iPods and being all intense and sporty-looking with their designer sunglasses ;)

Shan, let us know how the Garmin is when it arrives! I still keep holding out from ordering mine...I'm looking in the stores to see what one looks like in person (maybe it'll sway me to buy it), but so far no luck.

Jeanne, I live in the Chapel Hill area of NC. I've heard great things about Umstead Park and Duke Forest, but have yet to make it out to either of those locations for running. Maybe when I work up to the longer runs I'll finally bite the bullet and go ;)

Dana, girl, the battle's on! We'll have to have a drink-off at the afterparty ;) Being a FL girl myself, I *know* we're nicer, but I was still pleasantly surprised by all the old people collecting their newspapers while I ran down the street.

Jeanne - I'm not sure what the time difference was. I tried to navigate to find exact info but didn't have much luck. I did apply for my refund in the 30 day window. It can never hurt to try! Good luck.

Moon - Glad to hear you had a great trip home!

Thanks, Leana....I'll give it a shot

Moon: my youngest son lives in Chapel Hill......he's a senior at UNC's Keenan Flagler Business School. He'll be running the Mickey with us, but is too cool for a WISH shirt. :rotfl:

Ok, went to the Y and did my 3 miler.....
I did a walk 4 / run 1 interval. I concentrated on breathing better/deeper.
I did cheat & did some extra running on the last mile. BUT, check this out:
11:43
11:24
10:57 :woohoo:
34:05

OMG! I am pretty sure I have never done a mile under 11! :yay:
I know 34:05 is a PR.

Maybe there is something to this breathing while wogging thing! ;)

Jackie - I have never run at Umstead; I'm not a big trail person. I'm always afraid I'm going to twist an ankle. Are they pretty smooth?

There are different types of trails out there. I had never been on the bike/bridle trails before - they're apparently part of the greenway system, and they're really wide and made of a fine crushed gravel surface. Perfect for running! We were on the Reedy Creek Trail and saw lots of runners (and cyclists). Our running group is running out there on Sept 1st, so I'll know more about the trails then.

Moon
- I'd like to try Duke Forest too, but right now I'm exploring in Raleigh. I'd also like to try the American Tobacco Trail.

Martha - Calcio came home? Hooray! Maybe things will stop breaking now?

Worked out the arms today with weights. Headed to bed now so I can have a date with the TM in the AM. First time out with the new shoes!

Jackie

Good Evening Team

No training report for me, I have lots of good reasons for not running tonight, lets see if any are really legit. 1. My back needed rest after 7 yesterday.
2. We set a record high here today of 98 -- before heat index and...
3. Kids started back to school today and DH was on duty at fire station which meant single parent duty and it was DS pirate: first day of middle school, this is me  this is him

OK, so I am recovering from my day of constant worrying, I swear it was almost worse than sending him off to Kindergarten.

Back on the training aspect, I finished my 7 yesterday and that was great but my back was killing me. So I am still a little apprehensive of a full in January, maybe a 1/2 is better.

I am very jealous of all you guys doing TOT, I wanted to do it really bad!! But we are doing RFTT, finally booked hotel so it feels very real.

Have a good night everyone

angie

It's officially the 11th day after my neck surgery, and I am feeling pretty good (but still having some trouble sleeping). DW told me about all of the WISHers asking about me, so I wanted to say thank you.

Thanks to everybody who WISHed me well during my surgery. It really inspires me to get going again.

I'm already thinking that I will be able to at least walk the 1/2 in 2008. I am supposed to walk as much as possible, but no running yet. The Dr's say that I should fully-recover to normal activities, but I'm not sure that involves pounding up and down on pavement for 13 miles.

I do know I'll be avoiding all of the neck-jarring rides now (no more teacups:yay: ). Looks like DW will get to ride with the girls from now on.

Things are pretty hot here right now (both A/C's are out), and we are still trying to sell our old house, and as if DW didn't have enough going on at work, her DH is in a neck brace. If things get more exciting, I'm starting my own reality show.

Kevin (DH of TXBelle)

Good morning WISH Team.

I feel for Mexico, but I'm glad that Dean spared our Texas coast. We have sure had enough fun with storms the last few years. Between the Iraq war and our Gulf coast getting hammered by Katrina, not to mention Florida getting slammed over and over, it's been a tough couple of years. We were do some slack.

Kevin welcome back. Walking is good, really it is. I was a runner off and on for 35 years, when I tore my achillies and had to give it up I thought it was the end of the world. I discovered walking and that I was a better walker than I ever was a runner.

We are having a little bit of light rain here this morning, so being a "YARC", I'm heading out to walk in it. Yesterday's walk was really hot and humid.

Erica is sleeping in again, hopefully her cold will be better and she will have some energy later today. Poor thing hasn't wanted to do anything but sleep.

Never laugh at someone's dreams, without dreams we don't have much.

Have a wonderful day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Howdy everyone! It was pretty hot yesterday evening, but not too bad by the time I managed to get out. I went for somewhere around 6 miles, but I'm not sure of the exact distance since some of my route was along bike paths which aren't mapped on the mapmyrun or usatf sites. I had a decent pace for the first 3-ish miles, and got in a bit of practice with some big hills. Lawsy, those things are hard. The latter 3 miles were on a trail with lots of rocks and roots to trip over and quite varied in elevation grade (more hills, aaaagh), so I ended up being quite a bit slower for those - 40ish minutes to complete. I was feeling good up until about a quarter into mile five, but then I got a side stitch and started to feel kind of dehydrated, so it was hard to keep going. I did, though! Even though I slowed down a lot to give myself more time to drink and to try to not jar the cramp too badly. Still, mission accomplished :thumbsup2 My feet are paying me back for it today, though - something about running over such uneven ground really seems to aggravate my PF in my right foot, so I guess I can't make a habit of practicing there too often.

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better, Kevin!

Hope your back improves soon, Angie :/

Jackie, thanks for the reminder about the American Tobacco Trail! I really should check these other locales out sometime, but I don't like driving my car very much, so I always end up staying in town. I guess I miss out on some things that way...

Kristi, congrats on the PR! You're right, when I paid more attention to how I breathed while running I started to feel a lot better and be able to go longer and faster too!

Jeanne, I'm sure your son is a great guy, but I think the case is more that he's not cool enough for a WISH shirt :rotfl2:

Thanks for the wb, Leana. It was good to be home, but I'm happy to be back here now and getting into the swing of things again. What can I say, I just like my own bed and food and daily routine a lot...

Have a great day, everyone!

Jeanne, I'm sure your son is a great guy, but I think the case is more that he's not cool enough for a WISH shirt :rotfl2:

You are so right about that!

Kevin: sending pixie dust for a speedy recovery....take it easy on the rides!

Leana: Thanks for the advice about the price adjustment. Amazon's policy is that they will refund the difference if the price goes down 30 days after SHIPPING. I ordered it on 7/19, but it didn't ship until 7/24 so I was fine. It turns out my credit was only around $8......so now we're going to have to share that drink! But it's still a savings and I'll take it!

Jackie

For some reason whenever I do gravel trails, I end up with pebbles in my shoes and it's so annoying. Anyone else have this problem?

Good morning WISH team! DH summarized the chaos in our lives right now. No a/c in Houston in August makes me crazy! :dance3: With work and taking care of DH and our 4 DDs, I have not had time to work out in the past couple of weeks. :sad2: It sounds like most of our team is on track. :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work! January will be here before we know it.

Good morning WISHers! I am glad to see everyone is training hard!

Yesterday was a rest day from running, but I did get in my 60 min Pilates. I really do love that class......I used to think that it would be an 'easy' class to take, but it is far from easy. It's quite the workout! Now, everything that wasn't sore from my 16 miler is now sore from Pilates!:thumbsup2

Kevin: I am glad you are feeling better! :)

Jeanneg: Welcome back from WDW! Sounds like quite the workout in the parks!:cool2:

Kim: Good luck with your 5K today! I am looking forward to the marathon, and hopefully seeing you!

Jackie: I love finding new places to run! Your trail sounds great!

BigVic: I am glad that your foot is feeling better. Nothing worse than a hurt foot when you're out 'on the road'!

Lily: We all have those 'stonkers' don't we? Good job getting your steps in though!:woohoo:

Nancy: You haven't posted this week! I am glad the cold's better though!

Have a great day everybody!

Beth

I'm behind with this thread as I forgot to subscribe to it this week.

Welcome back Jeanne. Norm always has problems with the peebles in the shoe when we do the rail trail. I think it is because he doesn't tie his shoes as tight as I do as I don't have the problem.

Dave--- Sorry to hear that Erica is still not feeling well.

Kim---Is the Hard Rock still inside the stadium where you can eat and watch the game?

Monnie-- Good job on your 6 miles.

Kevin--- Hope you continue with a good recovery from your neck surgery.

Angie---Just resting after doing 7 miles the day before seems like a good enough excuse. Hope you back it feeling better.

Jackie--- The rail trail in our areas is traveled by runners, joggers, bikers, and horses. I try to get there early on Sat morning to avoid alot of the group bikers as many of them are not considerate of other people. My big complaint is that you don't have to be riding 3 across taking up the entire area and expect me to get off the trail so you can go past.

Dona--- Dang and here I was ready to pack things up and send to you.

Did 4 miles on TM last night and Pilates. It has been raining hard here for the past 3 days so back inside for training.

Nancy

Just got back from my 5K 42 mins...not bad I guess.

Beth: You won't be able to miss me I am wearing my lime green WISH shirt....!!!!! you can see them for miles....:lmao:

Nancy: I don't remember a hard rock, there is one further up yonge street. There use to be a planet Hollywood right outside the stadium. But we always eat at the Armidillo...love it there.

Gotta hit the showers have a good one all

Kim

Well, things just keep gettin' better 'n' better! The plumber came to install the new toilet this morning only to find that the tank has a huge crack in it! So, IT'S NOT JUST ME!!! I feel SOOOOO vindicated!! We're out $150, but I do feel vindicated. Stuff breaks when DH--Calcio--is home :love2: .

Kristi: :thumbsup2 on the sub 11:00 min mile!! Woo-hoo!

Jackie: I'm so happy he's home but wish stuff would stop breaking!

Kevin: howdy! Glad to hear you're on the mend--hope it goes smoothly! We were all very concerned and kept you in our thoughts. Keep us posted! No a/c at all!?! In Texas!?! In AUGUST!?! Ew.

Moonie: way to go on the 6 miles!!

Nancy: sorry to hear about the rain! We haven't had any in quite a while and could sure use some.

Renee: where was the soccer tournament? Hopefully somewhere where the scenery was nice for a run!

Dona: congrats on the 2 miler! Keep up the great work!!!

Bill: how is everyone doing at home? The baby must be almost 6 months now isn't he? Is big brother still enjoying his status of older brother?

Week 2 of the marathon training. I did my cross-training today even though the plan calls for that on sundays. I trained with my trainer and will run tomorrow after work. DH says I've started too soon but I figure there will be weeks in which I don't get the runs in or the full LRs in (like ToT weekend) so a little buffer is a good thing. I know myself.

Hope everyone has a great day!!
