Wk of April 20 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Dana Happy birthday and glad things are looking up for next (gulp, so soon!) weekend.

Carrie Yeah, running in the "heat" of 70 was definitely a test--I know I went slower.

Carol Hope your massage goes well. I have to wait to schedule mine til the massage therapists get back from Boston. I am really looking forward to it.

Angie Hope your first day on the new job went well and that you get lots of rest time between now and next weekend. I think I'll just do a few short runs between now and then--my legs are screaming at me today. And I feel better now about throwing out my time goal and just going for my other goal of running the whole thing.

Allyson Hope the Boston Marathon viewing was great. I've got the live feed from wcsn.com in the background.

Maura

Dana - Happy BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Vic - love the tattoo. Where is it located? Am I right in assuming its on your calf?? I just recently got a tattoo on the back of my left calf that I plan on turning into a running tattoo.(Luckly my friend is a tattoo artist) All my other tattoos (3) are of cats so of course this one is a cat as well. But around it I want to have tattoo'd all the different race distances I have done - so far it would just be 5k and 13k but in 2 weeks I am hoping 15k will be a completed race for me. I am glad other's have the same idea. I got some questions when I mentioned I wanted the race distances noted - but only those who have actually trained and completed those distances know what it takes to get to the finish line and that is something I am proud to say I did and would be proud to have on a tattoo.

Getting my final LR's in before Minnie - have one more (8 miles) scheduled for next Sunday. Can't believe the 15k is almost here. I might volunteer to help at a 10k race on Saturday being held by my local running group. I was going to run it but then decided it was too close to the 15k and decided not to push myself.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Hey guys! I really did start reading...then my ADHD started acting up and I am now "running" out of time....but anyway!

Mel - GIRL! About the food and LR combo...all I can say is been there, done that, not pretty!;) I love your idea about the WISH moving forward. WWDave is so right about how we inspire people. I love to wear my WISH shirt. People feel good when they read it...well after they can see again b/c it is SO bright!:goodvibes

I will not bore everyone with my WOs so if you care to know you can look on my WO link b/low...
BUT!
I saw Wicked yesterday! :cool1:
It was wonderful. My sweet mom got me and DH tickets and we went with her and my dad...and a ton of other peolpe from the company I sometimes work with.

So that is all I have time for....Hope to catch up more later. But I really doubt it b/c this thread moves so fast.

just starting out and did
w1d1 c25k
I know it will be a while before I am doing any race, but making a committment to myself.

PS... Vic, love the tat!

TXang- I am still trying to talk myself into doing the DL half since I also would get the third metal. It is looking like my vacation dollars are all spent up for the year though. Especially since I couldn’t find anyone else to go and split the costs.

Vic - Nice tattoo. You are going to start a trend and will have to get one for each marathon you do. Rumor has it you can’t get just one.

CarolA - Enjoy the World

Dana - Happy Birthday.

Morgan - How did you enjoy your first 5K. The weather was perfect and the course was pretty fast. The wind on the final stretch to the finish wasn’t fun but I do like that course.

Everyone doing the Minnie: Hope everyone is all ready for the 5K or 15K, whichever you are doing. I am hopping that next year’s is either the weekend of the 9th or 16th. I am going with my mom and brother on the podcast cruise and either way I will find a way to get at least one of the two in.

I did the same 5K on Saturday as Morgan, it was a fun race. It took me 19:41 which is about my average right now. Sunday’s run was much hillier so my time suffered (20:07) but I finished in a much higher place so the course definitely effected everyone.

Ughhh, I went on a 10 mile long run yesterday that went really well despite a little cramping in the legs around mile 8. In fact, I was just flying towards the end. But then I got home and started to feel sick. It took me about 5 hour to recover and stop feeling queezy. Turns out I was just really dehydrated and the apple I had eaten when I got home had sat in my stomach like a rock since I couldn't digest it. Next week I'm going to make sure to bring at least a litre of fluids with me and take gatorade instead of just plain water or at least some Sports Beans.

Greetings race team -

Headed to the track Saturday morning with the intent of doing 9.3. About 4.5 I felt my right hamstring tighten up. It got worse and worse until I started hearing my WISH team in my head and I finally stopped. Went right home and called our esteemed Dr Calcio who gave me excellent advice. (I remembered he had hamstring issues in January so I knew he was the one to call.) I've been icing it but not really resting. Except when I am at work.

Mel - I got a voicemail from Sunny on marathon weekend in January. Cam actually spoke to her. I'll PM you.

Craig - Thank you very much for your help and advice on Saturday morning. :thumbsup2 I've been icing but, well, not much resting. I'll start the hamstring curls tonight. It feels sore but doesn't hurt so much anymore. I think it was a strain instead of a tear, thank goodness.

Maura
- I completely understand the need for physiological reassurance. :thumbsup2 That was the only reason I had 9.3 planned this past weekend. I always have to do the race distance a couple of weeks before. I can't be standing at the start line saying "OK, I think I can do this." I need to KNOW.

Vic
- OMG! Wow, that's really nice, but, umm, where is it? Can't tell. Is that an arm? Leg? Something else? :upsidedow

Kristi - Hey, look at you in the Mickey Mom's club! :yay:

Angie - Ohh I hope it's going well for you today!

Carol - Totally totally jealous! :yay: I hope you're having a great time, even if you are working.

Dana
- First off......:bday: Then...... It's gotta get better for you now!

Still looking for Dr Solo.....Kevin, where the heck are you??? :confused3 You're still coming, right???

Angie - How'd I miss oyu teh first time??? Hope you're having a great first day! Take your camera fro teh Minne and see how may fun pix you can take in 9.3 miles. Last year, I really tried to run fast teh first part. After my body told me that was not a good idea, I wondered what I was thinking. I had only taken 1 pic in teh first 5 miles or so. :scared1: I'm still tossing around going for a PR this year, but I think fun is a much better option!

Frank - Holy cow! You are speedy!

Sheesh this thread takes off! Way too nice to be in side yesterday here so still catching up.

Mel - fantastic thinking ahead about WISH. Would be great to have WISH weekends with training & info sessions. Plus general sitting around and eating/talking sessions. ;) Been part of this only since Jan but have received so much! And at my 10K on Sat I had a couple people comment on my WISH shirt.

Vic - nice ink! Like others I'm too coward to get one but have thought about it.

Sorry not replying to everyone but it's one of those days around here.
So way to go, feel better, take it easy or ramp it up. GO WISH!

Rest day for me today. Will get in some pilates (thanks AmyBeth!) and core later.

have a great day!!

Good afternoon WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a fine Monday.

Thanks for kind comments about the tat. I already have ideas for the second one. It will be for the 2007 WDW Half. Just gotta figure how to put it on paper.

Angie – Congrats on starting the new job.

Judith – Get your mind out of the gutter. :rolleyes1 :rotfl: Hope your hamstring is ok.

Dana – Happy Birthday!! :thumbsup2

Tricia – Yep, it’s on the right calf. I wanted to document the marathon is some way. But, I wanted to do something different like a tattoo, and when I saw the picture AlohaJeff posted a few weeks ago that got the ball rolling. :)

Everyone – Keep up with the training!! Y’all are doing great!

:)

Two people I know from the Honolulu Marathon clinic ran the Boston Marathon. They were flying! :scared1: :worship: :woohoo:

Rosy 3:41:05 520 in her division
Kozo 3:38:42 63 in his division

Mel - I knew about the fact that you were thinking more structure would be good fro WISH. However, had no clue of your furhter thoguhts. I love it!!!!! WOnder how we go about making next steps?

First step, we need a plan, where we want the team to be in 3, 5, 10, even 20 years and beyond. Then we'll likely need an 'executive committee' to start figuring out what to implement and how. I have a lot of this in my head on what things to do and in what phases but would like team input on feasibility and what everyone else would like to see happen. I think we can do this online, via email, phone, etc then use marathon and other event weekends to meet in person as needed.

At minimum, we should address what things to do as we grow. I think planning for a coaching/mentoring structure for 2010 marathon weekend would be the first thing to try that wouldn't be too much to do all at once. I'd like to chat with folks like Cecilia, Monica, Angie, etc who have run/walked for charity organizations for an idea on how their organizations handle the coaching aspect and how we could translate that to an electronic format.

I would not want to change the flavor of the WISH team in anyway, that would be a priority.

GOOD EVENING TEAM!!!!

MY FIRST DAY WAS LIKE THIS!! :cool1: :dance3: :woohoo: OK so I am a little over the top but it was like everything I worked so hard to learn finally came full circle!!!!!! OH I am so STOKED!!! - It doesn't hurt that my first project is to help on the design of an oil refinery in the middle east.

Thank you guys so much for thinking of me you guys are the best
Carrie That is a GREAT idea. I am ashamed to say that as many Disney races as we have done, I do not have one picture because I have always run for PR's .

Now for the bad news, and you guys are going to kill me: ::yes::

My back is so bad right now I don't know if I can even do 15k. I mentioned yesterday that I limped home from LR and today the pain was the worse it's been in a year. YUP I did it this time. I KNOW, I KNOW I didn't listen. Much rest and ice and alleve in my immediate future. OH I am so worried though because I wanted to do my first full next January and now I don't know if back can handle it. My plan is after MINNIE to concentrate heavy on Pilates/Core and short, easy runs for a little bit :confused3

As I said last night, I am still excited about the weekend, although a little worried, my mom was not taking this thing very seriously and told me today that she is not sure if she can even do 16 minute pace for 5K!!!! WE ARE GOING TO GET SWEPT!!! :lmao: Just kidding, I will push her if I have to, I know she can do it!!:thumbsup2

Angie - Glad you had a great first day. Hope the back gets to feeling better.

Mel - Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Angie: Take care of yourself, take care of that back!! Relax and see how it goes.
I'm glad your first day at work went well. About the oil refinery....hhmmmmm...could you help the prices get lower or something???maybe not.)

Mel: Like I said before, I'm in it to help WISH in anyway I can.

--waiting around for Dancing with the Stars to start---

Being at the Boston Marathon today was AWESOME! Talk about INSPIRING! We got there late (darn!) and missed the wheelchair athletes and the elite runners but we saw thousands of other folks go by and to stand there and scream for them was so much fun! There were people of all shapes, sizes and ages. We were in Ashland so quite close to the start of the race. I was suprised by how fast most people were going. Almost all the people I saw were running, a handful walking, one guy was juggling!:lmao: The very last runner I saw had to be 85. I just looked at him with such awe. What a task and how awesome to be at that age in life and just going for it. It was quite moving.

Anyway it just was so cool, the energy and seeing these people who had obviously put so much time and energy into getting to this moment. It was so cool to be there.

Allyson

Mel & Judy - I tried to PM Sunny a couple weeks ago. I haven't gotten a repsonse. I am worried about her & hope she's doing ok. Please let me know if you hear from her!

Judy - take care of that hamstring! Hope you had a glass of wine for me while you iced it. ;)

Mel - I think you have some really fabulous ideas! :thumbsup2 Please let me know if and when you need some help with whatever you have up your sleeve.

Two people from work did the Boston Marathon today:
Steve (anchor/reporter) 4:28:24 :woohoo:
Brian (IT guy and health nut) 4:06:22 :cheer2:

Lisa - Brian was the guy Chad ran with at Great Bay. He came down with pneumonia two days after GB. He is still on antibiotics and pulled a 4:06 - amazing!

I am really in a funk and can't get out of it. I haven't exercised in awhile. I need to get my act together. In the meantime, I am reading here every day and keeping tabs on all my buddies. I wish I was going to the Minnie so I would have some motivation. We are going to FL the first week of June, but I doubt there are any races then due to the heat.

My friend found at that our city runs a free running clinic for kids in June & July thru something they call Fitness University. They meet every tuesday night for an hour to train. Then the last Saturday in July, they have a meet - get t-shirts, medals, food, etc. I think I am going to sign Zack up. He has Tae Kwon Do on Tuesdays, so it will be tough. But I want him to do this so badly! And ever since that kids race last week, my friend's daughter has been begging to do another race. I think the kids will have a blast.

Angie - Congrats on Day One...but sorry to hear about your back. Sounds like you need to totally rest it for the week leading up to Minnie and just shoot for having a great time with your friends and family down there :) Health is most important right now.

Mel - I agree that building a plan for the team is the obvious first step...maybe redefine exactly what WISH means or intends to do, then devise the separate paths to accomplish the goal as a whole.

Big Vic - Nice tat! The artwork looks great.

Liz
- Enjoy the rest day and the pilates...I'm doing the same thing myself today :goodvibes:

Carrie - Fun is always a better option!! Sounds like you had a solid 8 miler even with the heat...great job!!

Judy - take care of yourself...you need to show up healthy at the Minnie. R.I.C.E. :)

PJ - Congrats on day one week one! Hope it is the start of something great for you!

Christa
- Wicked, cool!! (not wicked cool like a person from Boston would say) Don't be afraid to bore us with workouts, we like to try to keep up with you :)

Dana
- Happy Birthday!!

Carol - Ok..I'm only a tad bit jealous of where you are right now. :) Good luck with the massage...hope it worked out well for you!

Debra - Um...where the heck are you?? Don't you realize we depend on daily posts from you...DAILY! Geesh...

Aimsteroni
- Kind of like pepperoni like you are eating right now ;) Hope this week is a good one for you, and great job yesterday with the long run!! I can't say it enough...I CAN'T WAIT FOR MINNIE WEEKEND!! :goodvibes:

Scott's World - Pretty much things as normal in my neck of the woods. I did a 20 mile bike ride on Saturday, followed it up with a very solid 10 mile run yesterday. I'm all about the Tour De Georgia bike race that is taking place this week...I am planning on heading downtown on Sunday to check out the final leg after the long run. Other than that, just working, working out and blogging ;)

hope everyone has a great night!!!

Shan: It's very cool that DH caught the Thunderbirds on video. We missed them while we were there. How's your leg doing, btw?

Mel: I do hope you're feeling better by now. It sucks about your experience, everything from how you felt to being so close to PRing your 10 miler. I believe you're owed a PR on your next LR!

I love your thoughts about the future of WISH. I do think we have quite a presence at events, if my meager experience is any indication. Whenever I wear the shirts, at least one person approaches me & I'm more than happy to talk endlessly about how much difference WISH has made in my life. I think your plans for long-term growth & organization, although I know they're in the early stages, would really benefit all of us.

Tracy: Your IBS must make it incredibly difficult to train. :worship: for your dedication! And a big congratulations on your pace & for the relief that comes from knowing you won't be swept.

Dave: Walking after a meal. (And in my case, during!) Chalk that up to a big PR reason to be a walker! :thumbsup2 I don't have any stories about being a WISH member like the one you told about the man at the ToT event, but it's that kind of story that makes me want to wear lime green every day!

Jeff: But you WOULD be a natural at the tourist/convention bureau. I didn't know how badly I needed to visit Hawaii until I saw your pictures. ;) And then you follow it up by appealing to my Lostie sensibilities. It sounds like you had a great weekend, what with the biking, hiking, running, and overall Princess-time.

So, what's are you going to say to the Queen when you show up with a tat? "Gee, Queenie, in a post-run induced haze, I accidentally stumbled into a tattoo parlor & fell on the artist's needle. And as luck would have it, the markings came out looking like Mickey. :rolleyes1 I guess I'll have to keep it, huh?" :rotfl2:

Claire: How cool that you learned how to salsa. You must be naturally graceful in addition to being athletic. As far as themes for your Masquerade themed spring banquet. First, how fun! I would think it might be really cool to do a Lion-King/Julie Taymor kind of mask?? Alternately, perhaps something inspired from The Hunchback of Notre Dame/Festival of Fools?

Terri: WTG with finishing off your list (and 23 things! :scared1:) I'm glad you're settling into your new work and that graduation is on the horizon. More training & DIS time approaches rapidly, I hope.

Craig:
Pain is transitory, but glory is forever.
You are SO going to rock the Minnie. You've got the training, you've got the experience, you've got attitude. :woohoo:

Becky: I'm not sure about how your training will affect your pace, but doing your LRs outside probably prepares your legs/knees for the distance so that you'll be less sore afterwards. Of little comfort at you're icing them currently, I know, but...at least you're in taper?? And you shaved 16 minutes off last year's Minnie pace! :woohoo:

Vic: All Mel's fault? I think she can handle the responsibility as we all lknow you need someone to look after you. Very cool tattoo, btw! And now you need to be the 2nd person Jen blames. Oh, Je-en!

TXAng: Sorry, no help here. I think you need to do the DL Half, if for no other reason than Sean might as well get started on his Disney fixation early. Plus, I think Mickey needs to meet Sean, too! And think how many WISHers would want to welcome him as a new, if inexperienced, teammate! Oh, and WTG with C25K W1D3!

Maura: I think we all need to find a balance between our physical and mental training needs. You obviously needed to run in order to be in a good place for the Minnie. And you did it! You sound ready for anything now, so I'm very happy for you! :dance3: Now...just be sure to really take care of yourself physically; maybe even a bit of pampering is in order.

Amy: Like Maura, you sound like you're in a good place mentally for the Minnie. That's very good to hear. I think with some more tapering you should do well--remember to hang out with Craig, who'll get you stoked for a PR!

Martha: Ouch for the ITB. I hope it doesn't affect your Minnie too much.
If that's what they want of the place, go with God, but I want a gym.
:rotfl2: OMG, your "go with God" just made me do that barking laugh of mine. Like you, I want a gym, which is pretty much I've lucked into except for the pool which is always filled with young'uns. Now if they would just get discourage the pick-up crowd from hanging on the machines...

Angie: I'm so glad you're finding your happy place with the Minnie event--it's WDW! And doing so will help you find a happy pace, too--I'm sure of it! Just keep taking care of your back, going easy on the runs (and take time off), and see what happens in a few days. I think you've been doing solid rehab work, so I have my fingers crossed for you. And I'm very glad to hear your first day was as over-the-top as your smilies could indicate.

Allyson: It sounds like there's a tattoo in your future, too. It's just a matter of time. Thank you for your report on the Boston Marathon--I find the atmosphere at marathons to be inspiring & addictive. I watched for years until the desire to participate finally overwhelmed me. (Of course, the story I tell is that participating meant I was excused from the pressure of navigating races with my ILs as we attempted to locate DOOD on the course. Take your pick as to the more truthful story. :rotfl:)

Carrie: I think it's awesome that you attended a meet to support DH's colleague's sons, especially because you don't have a team of your own to really root for. I know the boys appreciated it. And :woohoo: for going through with your 8 miler, and managing neg. splits, on a very busy weekend that involved emotionally and physically exhausting events.

CarolA: Woo hoo working from SSR (and DISing). Not so woo hoo for the calves hurting, but hopefully the massage will help. (Can't hurt, huh?)

Dana: Happy Birthday!!!! :bday: What a great birthday gift, getting to go to the Minnie alone without the kids. You so deserve it--I just wish you hadn't had such a rough time of things coming up to your birthday.

Tricia: What a cool idea for your tattoo as a running log (sorry) of your race distances. Your body art as a work in progress, just like your body (and all of our bodies). I'd love to see a picture!

Christa: I'm so glad you, DH, DM and DD got to see Wicked and enjoyed it. I know you and your DM are so close & so it's really cool that you got to spend some theatrical time together off stage. And with no drama. (Okay, so it's a punny day for me folks, it happens!)

Patricia: What a great way to put things. Running is a commitment to ourselves, isn't it. And you're SO WORTH IT! Congrats on doing C25K W1D1.

Frank: Congratulations on your back-to-back races. I think both race times are phenomenal. Isn't the excitement surrounding the Minnie addictive? I know I'm in for the Minnie next year because of everyone's discussions. Going on the podcast cruise sounds like a great way to double up!

Amps: Ugh, dehydration. I'm glad nothing horrible happened on your training run & that you figured this out before your Ottawa Half Marathon. I'm a Sports Beans girl, myself.

Judy: The advice is far easier to give than to take, but do get some rest & take care of that hamstring. I'm so glad Dr. Calcio has your back. If it helps you any, I just KNOW you can do the Minnie.

Liz: I, too, love the idea of training & information sessions. We have so many brilliant, experienced WISHers here that are so generous with their time and knowledge. They help build the momentum of the group. Thanks for the reminder about the Core group--I need to get my butt, er abs, over there.

Kristi: How exciting to know Boston participants! I'm sorry about your missing motivation--I think all of us go through that. And you always have so much on your plate. Your plan to sign Zack up for Fitness U is excellent--it sounds like a lot of fun for the kids. Get him hooked on the bling, that's what I say!

Scott: I've had some wireless issues this weekend--on and off, off and on. Kind of like my personality. ;) But I was in the middle of posting to the weekly thread when I saw you snuck in right before me, so I had to read your always-witty observations before finishing. My day's not complete without a Scott's World post, you know! (Must visit blog, must visit blog.)

Have you done the 600 miles of Tour de Georgia or are you going to do it? It seems to be within your reach if you're doing 20 miles biking one day, 10 miles of running the next. Tell you what--you do days 1-3 for me, then I'll be able to do Stage 4 without much problem as it's 2.5 miles. You can finish Stages 5-6, since you'd have recovered, and I'll take Stage 7 for the glory.

As for me: Unfortunately, I had a shoddy 6 miler this weekend: heavy legs in the beginnning, fatiqued & achy by the end. I ended up almost going slower by 30 seconds per mile slower than my regular pace. :sad2: And my exhaustion has continued into today, so I'm trying to lighten my WO load for a couple of days because I'm also doing a lot of pedestrian/commuter walking for the next few weekends (which I'm feeling, too).

Anyway, I consoled myself with ice cream. Okay, so the ice cream had been planned since seeing that academic lecture last week, but it was still a consolation for me. Plus, I figure that ice cream, having the word ice in it, is a version of the RICE remedy. Right? And for those who are interested, the flavor I chose: Pecan Praline, single scoop, in a dish. Make of that what you will. :rolleyes1

Angie: Wow that was a GREAT NEWS....AWFUL NEWS post from you!. Girl... :cloud9: I'm so thrilled that you had a wonderful first day at your new dream job. That is sooo exciting! BUT OMG...you just have to rest Ang...seriously...take it easy and let your back heal up before the Minnie. Don't go out there with any huge expectations or hurt yourself during the race. Just have fun and enjoy the experience. We all care to much to see you injure yourself!!!

Kristi: Sending you some good thoughts. :goodvibes You will be missed at the Minnie but you will always be with us in spirit!!!

Allyson: HOW COOL that you were there at the marathon today!!! I plan to watch the NY marathon this year :).

CarolA: jealous...very jealous. Thankfully I will be down there VERY SOON! Yay!

Dana: Happy Birthday!!!

Vic: Cool...but OUCH. Sorry..I can't look at tattoos without thinking OUCH! :headache:

Mel: I LOVE your idea for the future plans of WiSH!!! I'd be happy to help or be involved in any way.

Liz: :woohoo: Pilates? Awesome girl. I hope it goes well for you!!!

Judy, Judy, Judy....Take care of that leg. We absolutely need you healthy ;). Seriously...rest it up you'll do great whether you miss a few training runs or not. It's all about FUN this year anyway!!!! :cool1:

Frank: Congrats on great races.

PJ: congrats on your first week!!!

Scotty boy: Another SOLID weekend for you :). Pepperoni?? Nopers...just plain cheese pizza for me. Is that like Vanilla ice cream? Although I'm not opposed to anchovies....so analyze that pizza personality. OK...how excited are we??? :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: <----- THAT excited. ALMOST doing the single digit dance buddy!

Debra: A little birdy told me you are posting as I post this....therefore....I cannot give you any specific shout-outs. Luck you...I'll give you your own separate post LOL! Be back soon for Debra! :)

Whew...that was a long one...sorry guys :). As for me....today was a heavy teaching day and I participated a lot because I was demonstrating some new exercises. Sooo...I got a lot of great core work in today :). Tomorrow I plan to teach and run 5 or 6 depending on how I feel. What I'm really happy about is how GOOD I feel today :). My body shows no ill effects from the long run yesterday which means the rest days I took last week must have paid off immensely!!! Yay!
