Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Not much to report for this week. I'm feeling terribly undertrained for the Minnie. I'm supposed to be tapering this week, but DD13 didn't get her 8 miler in last weekend, so I told her I'd do 8 again with her tomorrow. Her scoliosis evaluation was yesterday at All Children's in St. Pete. No surgery at this time, but kidney ultrasound and MRI of the spinal cord to make sure those things developed correctly. They'll repeat Xrays in the fall to make sure the curvature is no worse. She's pretty bummed about her height...based on her xrays, she's almost done growing and it's not likely she'll be taller than me as she'd hoped.

Since we were up in the 'big city', we went to the mall to get dresses for an upcoming family wedding. I've decided that clothing is not actually designed for women with hips  DD13 found something fairly easily, but after 3 hours, I was disgusted with the whole process and bought the last thing I tried on just so it would be over.

Thinking about going ahead and booking the weekend of Race for the Taste, just in case we're able to go. Next week, we can book for our annual Xmas trip in December at VWL, then first of June, we'll be booking marathon weekend, hopefully at BCV!

Welcome to escape and Rachael!

Lynne...hope your tri went well! looking forward to the race report!

Colleen...glad to see you back!

Dave...thanks for taking on the shirts...if you need to see a pic of last year's, I'd be happy to post mine.

Hope everyone is training well! What's up next on everyone's schedule?

Hi WISH Team!

I can't believe I'm on the first page posting this week! That calls for our Cheer!

Thunder Thunder Thunderation!
We're the WISH Group delegation.
When we move with determination,
We create a GREAT sensation!

Mel, good about no surgery. Hope all works out well with Minnie. You can do it! Just relax, enjoy and let the adrenallin take over the rest.

Kevin, sorry about that dinner thing.

Sunny, be the poser! (you don't have to tell on yourself, smile and nod) And, now that you've diagnosed the cause of the problem, I hope you can let go of the bike!

Amy, I'd think you can relax that week before. You will amaze yourself then by all the energy you will have for the full.

CJ, sorry about the back, ouch. Hope you get it worked out real soon.

Monte, looks like you have a great plan in place.

I've got stuff on my computer from my Garmin! Next is to learn a little more about this powerful toy. I have had mine for almost a year and all I've done is use it to time my pace/distance avg pace/total distance. Its been great for that.

Wheee! I did a slow 2 mile wog today and then DH and I went for a little 15 mile bicycle ride. Lovely weather.

Dave...thanks for taking on the shirts...if you need to see a pic of last year's, I'd be happy to post mine.
Hi Mel :wave2:. Yeah, I'd love to see your picture of the shirts.

Great News about your daughter - not having to go in for surgery! :goodvibes

Hi Everyone,

Still have to catch up from last week with everyone's posts. Strange....I went to the WW meeting this past Thursday and the leader wants me to also become a leader......she said to follow up next week because they do some kind of seminar before becoming a receptionist/leader - if I were to go for something like this they do start you off as a receptionist. I guess, I could follow up.....it could bring some extra money my way and that's always good :thumbsup2

Friday, I did my run inside on the threadmill - 5 miles!

Today, I went to the running store and picked up a fuel belt.....I forget what the brand name is but it came with two bottles.....it's perfect! While there I also picked up a trail guide for Connecticut - I read through it while at Applebees (my DH and I stopped for an early dinner). Anyhow, the trails don't seem to be that long.....I think the longest one printed was around 5 miles. I was hoping to be able to mix things up a little bit......I was getting bored with the route that I already know......that's why on Friday when I could have very well run outside I opted to do it inside on the threadmill. Does everyone go through a little bit of boredom if they've worked a route for their runs a lot?

Oh - question for you guys......In October I will be doing a half marathon - do you think it would be too much to do a 5k a few weeks later? The Half Marathon is October 14th and the 5k is October 22nd - Is that pushing things too much? Should I rest more. Had I know about the 5k sooner I would have just done that......It's in Salem Mass. DH and I love going there in the Fall and Spring (this Spring - we skipped it but will be going in October).

Oh my goodness......I've been going on for a little bit - sorry for the long post.

Have a great night everyone,

Jodi

jodi - Congrats on being asked ot be a leader! If you take teh 5K easy, you should be ok, but I would not push it.

Mel - Glad dd does not need surgery! SOrry about the dresses. SOunds like my bathing suit experiences. I hate it whne I'm justified to buy and can't find anything!

LIly - Was just thinking we needed you to post our cheer again!

Are you all sitting down????? I did my 7-miler today!!! ALl by myself and had a pretty decent pace, even though I did not push it.

I did upload soem new stuff to my MP3. Doesn'thappen very often, because it tends to be so long btwn mp3 runs for me. 13 miles this week made it necessary.

Here are the new ones I was most delighted with:

Happy Feet adn Moving Right Along from teh Muppets Cd. Silly, but they were upbeat, met the theme and made me smile.

From 10 things I hate about You Ssoundtrack:

I Want You to Want Me
Wings of a Dove
Cruel to be Kind

Very fun!

This song was a little slow for running, but if you picture "she" as running/wlking/wogging, it's pretty appropriate.

Jessica Riddle---Even Angels Fall

You've found hope
You've found faith,
Found how fast she could take it away.
Found true love,
Lost your heart.
Now you don't know who you are.

She made it easy,
Made it free,
Made you hurt til you couldn't see.
Sometimes it stops,
Sometimes it flows,
But baby that is how love goes.

You will fly and you will crawl;
God knows even angels fall.
No such thing as you lost it all.
God knows even angels fall.

It's a secret no one tells;
One day it's heaven, one day it's hell.
It's no fairy tale;
Take it from me,
That's the way it's supposed to be.

You will fly and you will crawl;
God knows even angels fall.
No such thing as you lost it all.
God knows even angels fall.

You laugh, you cry, no one knows why
Behold the thrill of it all...
You're on the ride
You might as well
Open your eyes

You will fly and you will crawl;
God knows even angels fall.
No such thing as you lost it all.
God knows even angels fall.
Even angels fall
Even angels fall

Today was heaven. :smooth: Hope everyone else had good days!

Carrie - Great 7 miler!

Jodi - Even though I've only been running for a few months and I'm only doing 3 miles at the most, I'm already bored with my routes, so I'd definitely be looking for new stuff. The trails sound like fun!

Lily - Love the cheer!

We've spent the weekend (so far) getting ready for WDW! Doing laundry, cleaning house, cleaning the van... but fun since we know why we're doing it! The only "training" was walking the dog up to the park for Bark Around the Park (1/2 mile round trip!), but we did go to the park twice, so I don't feel like a total slug. I've pretty much decided my calf will do better if I stay off it completely till the Minnie and then hope I have the energy level, but I'm sure I will since I'll be AT THE MINNIE!!! :Pinkbounc After that if it's still hurting I'm going back to the doc.

Jackie

WOW, when things get really busy with work and home I miss a lot here. PD to all who are in need. Good luck to all doing the Minnie - I am posting this now because I have no idea when I wil get back on the boards.

A run report from yesterdays weekly long run: We, 3 guys from the running club and I, set out for our Saturday morning run of 10 to 13 miles on a beautiful morning with thoughts of a simple pre-race (Broad Street 10 miler is next Sunday) warm-up run; little did we know of the adventure that awaited us. As I said it was a beautiful morning and all was going well until the decision was made to turn our planned out and back 12 miles into a loop 13 to 14 miles. The porblem arose after about two miles of trail running when there it was, a fence suddenly appeared blocking the trail that had been open for years. Apparently some land barron decided that he now owns the rail trails around his property and is fighting the township by constructing fences and blocking the trail and the township parking lot at the trail head. We had no choice but to forge the Brandywine creek - about 50 feet across at this point - and climb the bank to get to the road. We plunge into the ice water - felt good on the feet but with 4 miles yet to run visions of blisters were dancing in my head - and scamper to the bank. It turns out that there is no good footing on this mud hill called a bank and it takes a full 3 minutes to slip slide our way to the top. Now we have to run on a road - thank God it was early on a Saturday morning - with water shooting out of our mud-soaked shoes with each stride. It is really interesting how different makes of running shoes make different squishing sounds when wet. ufice it to say the feet suffered for the next couple of miles but, when finished, we four had one fun story to relay to our running brethren.
Have a great Sunday everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Mike! That's a pretty hardcore trail run!

Carrie...wtg on the 7 miles! :cheer2: Those are some great songs for training. I'm afraid my MP3 player died after the Sarasota half, so I've been running without a soundtrack since

For anyone that didn't see last year's WISH marathon shirts, I've posted photos of mine on the shirt thread:

I've started thinking about food :thumbsup2 Anyone know if we can now make ADR's 180 days from our trips? If we want to do a meet that involves ressies, we'd be able to make them in July that way.

I think TE went okay last year once the manager got over the fact that we were all there. If we want to do something like that again, I think we'd do better just making individual ressies for our groups and not telling management that we're all there together. Or we could do something at DTD or a resort food court and eliminate the need for ADR's. How would y'all like to do it this year?

Chimera-- I think the resort food court idea might be a great one! That way we won't have to worry about ADRs, taking up a bunch of tables, etc, etc. Having to make ressies in July certainly complicates matters, since I'm sure we will have people join us during the summer and fall that would like to meet up as well. Whatever everyone wants to do is fine by me.. I'm NOT missing it this year!!!

Carrie-- Way to go on the 7-miler!! I'm so happy it's finally spring here :thumbsup2

Jodi-- I think you could do that. Full marathoners (You're running the full, right?) do this several times during their training programs. So long as you feel sufficiently recovered, I don't see why not.

Lily-- I made the mistake of agreeing to accompany a friend to that straight-out-of-the-Jerry Springer show shindig. Ended up leaving after the appetizer and stopping at Arby's on the way home. :rolleyes2

I should have looked at my training plan before saying what I was supposed to do. Yesterday was in fact 4 miles, for which I averaged 9:20 pace. Today will be 6 once the rain stops.... otherwise it'll be a very soggy 6 miler this evening.

Happy training all!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Hi Folks,
Chimera invited us over. DW & I think about doing the 2006 10K Race for the Taste at EPCOT.
We both run a lot although it's not the main focus of our program, which looks like this:
Monday: 35 minutes on the treadmill, 1 hour weight workout
Tuesday: 35 minutes on the treadmill, 1 hour weight workout
Wednesday: 30 minutes on the treadmill, 45 minutes weight workout, 45 minutes Badminton
Thursday: 45 minutes on the treadmill, 1 hour The Pump
Friday: 1 hour on the treadmill
Saturday: Off
Sunday: Either 35 minutes on the treadmill, 45 minutes Badminton or 90 to 120 minutes on the treadmill.
Our treadmill sessions we split 50/50 between running and the elliptical.

During summer we additionally run outside, do inline skating, and dragonboat racing. We've attended the JP Morgan Chase Corpoarate Challenge for the last 10 years, a 3.5 mile race. DW's personal best is 25:45, mine is 24:30min, but that time is not exactly representative as there are up to 60,000 people on the track, which force you to do a lot of zigzaging ;)

:wave2: Hi Everyone,

Today I did my 10 mile run.....ran to a few new places, including a State Park, what a beautiful day the only thing that was bugging me slightly was my allergies. I honestly didn't know if I was capable of doing 10 miles today but I did it - I'm so happy :woohoo: The only thing that I was that crazy about is that I only acheived an overall of 11.41 min/mile.

Mel You can do the Minnie - I know you can :thumbsup2

Dave How did the run with you club go?

Carrie Congrats on the 7 miles!

Glad to see that I'm not the only one thinking ahead :) I've been looking so forward to planning a the rest of the trip already :) Where did everyone go last year?

Welcome Husband/Wife Viking :wave2:

Have a great rest of the day everyone!

Jodi

Hi Viking....Welcome!!! :wave2: You'll find this to be a wonderful, supportive group of runners, walkers and woggers! Some of us (not me) are fast...some are newbies....some are experienced runners....some are walkers. But we all have the same goals....to complete various events throughout the year and to live healthy and strong! We're glad to have you join us!!! :thumbsup2

Jodi.....I'd say that your pace wasn't too bad for a 10 miler (see my pace below LOL) and new territory. I always seem to run slower in a new environment. I think I spend too much time looking around LOL! I did that today for sure!

Mel....thanks for the pics of the T-Shirt. Seeing that makes it all seem so much more real!! :cool1:

Today I did my first ever 5 miler. Well, the first 5 miler I've run in, oh, about 20 years. It's exciting to have finished this distance since it actually felt like a Long Run. Turns out the new trail I picked for myself was so much more challenging than I thought it would be. Turns out it was 75% uphill. And about 50% dirt, rocky trail. My other challenge was that the sport drink I chose to fuel with gave me TERRIBLE stomach pains. Scratch that one off the list! Oh....and I had Ipod trouble on top of it LOL! But the weather was simply beautiful and I made it home. My DH dropped me off 5 miles from home and had strict orders to go out looking for me if he didn't see me in an hour LOL! Well....I made it back in under an hour. My pace was 11:39 mpm overall. I had to walk some on the trail....but I had a very fast last mile so that made up for some of my walking! Like Jodi, I'm not terribly excited about my pace but I am happy that I finished it all in one piece! That's something!! :cheer2:

Hey everyone! :wave2:

Amy - Yea on your 5 miler!!! I think we learn so much more on the hard runs! You know which drink not to use! ;) Great job!!! :thumbsup2

Jodi - Awesome job on the 10 miles!!! Running through the state park sounds beautiful! On your 5K question - I don't know that I would do it a week after the half. Two weeks might be okay, but only you will know what your body is capable of.

Viking - Welcome!!! :welcome: I posted on your other thread, too, but DH and I are planning on doing the Race for the Taste weekend. So glad you joined our thread! :cool1:

Kevin - Hope you have a great run, and that the rain stops for you!!! :sunny:

Goofy Guy - Congrats on your long run!!! Great job dealing with the obstacles!!! :thumbsup2

Jackie - YEA!!! Minnie is getting sooo close! Lots of pixiedust: for your calf!

Carrie - Great job on your 7-miler!!! And thanks for sharing that song!

Dave - Thanks so much for doing the shirts!!! :teeth:

Lily - Thanks for the cheer!!! :cheer2: Great job on the "little" 15 mile bike ride! :goodvibes

Mel - I'm with you on feeling undertrained for the Minnie, but we can do it!!! Sometimes life gets in the way of training. Just think how good it will feel to cross the finish line, though! :woohoo: I'm so glad your DD doesn't have to have surgery! Yea!!! :goodvibes

Training has been sporadic with me. My foot is pretty well healed, but a little sore after long walks. I haven't tried running on it, yet. I have a sinus infection right now, but have a doctor appt. on Tuesday. I just want to be able to breathe at the Minnie! Swimming and biking are going well.

Our weekend excitement can only truly be appreciated by other runners... DH was doing his long run yesterday morning before daybreak. He was about 4 miles in when he heard a cat that sounded in major distress. He found this cat with his back paw stuck in a fence, hanging upside down trying to get free. You can probably see where this is going... good news: the cat is free; bad news: DH got a nice deep cat bite and lots of claws in his forearm. So we spent yesterday morning in the ER, and he has to go through the rabies vaccination over the next month. DH is doing okay, but is extremely sore, and a bit skiddish around stray cats. ;) Animal control is trying to find the cat. We are concerned about it, because I'm sure there is some injury to his back paw. P and PD for both DH and the cat would be appreciated! :goodvibes

My LW/R got postponed yesterday because of the cat, so I will try to get out this evening. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!!

--Lynnda

Well, I am back, unfortunately!! ;) I had a wonderful time at AKL, and I am already trying to figure out a way to go back!! I actually did end up running my "long" run on Thursday before we left for Disney. Well, the run itself was only 3 miles, but it was 3 miles without stopping, and I didn't realize that alot of that trail was uphill, so it was much harder than I expected. My calves were kicking my butt walking around Disney!! I feel amazing today though, and can't wait for my run tomorrow morning.

I'll only be running for 30 minutes/ 3 times this week, and then I will run 3.5 miles on Saturday. I can't wait!! Anyway, gotta go. Kids screaming, but I'll check back in later.

Dana

Thanks for the nice welcome, Folks :wave2:

Do I understand it correctly that a new thread is started every week?

Lynnda pixiedust: pixiedust: and MORE pixiedust: Oh, WOW!!!! Your DH is a true knight in shining armor!! Battle scars and everything! I don't know that my DH would go there, but I would have! Really hope that AC finds the cat. Don't forget about the notifying animal clinics to be on the lookout for someone bringing in a cat with an injury that matches. Lots of people don't put collars on cats.
Viking :welcome: Yes, Mel starts a new thread every week for us..we are a VERY chatty group!!
Amy, Jodi, Lily, Mike, Dana good distances..obstacles and all!! :cheer2:
Dave So glad to hear you got a good ortho consult!! Also, proud of you for your determination to stick with your goal rather than giving it up. :woohoo:
Mel The shirt is fantastic! Was that picture of you taken at the start? Did you lose any of the layers? Apparently, not down to the WISH shirt at any rate! :teeth:

FYI I have always associated our green with the dis.boards even when I was on the trip reports threads last year. At my first 5K, though, I saw pamphlets for the Arthritis Foundation "Joints in Motion" teams and they use the same lime green. Now that I've seen the great shirt from last year, I agree with others who say to add dis.boards to whatever design.

Carrie, I, too, did my first solo training run yesterday. 7 miles is awesome! I managed only 5.5 due to poor planning of the route. I had wanted 6... BUT every mile was UNDER 15!!! Oh, my goodness!! I am just amazed at how this all works. Never would have believed it if it wasn't for reading this thread!

I'll be even MORE amazed if I cross the finish line Sunday. I'm terrified that I haven't done 9 miles. 8 has been the most, and that was only once. I know, all the plans for the marathons don't have us doing the whole distance....
Like others have said, I'm going to be depending on the camaraderie and the atmosphere of WDW to get me through!

My song for this week is, "Heigh ho, heigh ho, It's off to Walt Disney World I go...."

Helen, Judy, Heather, Kim, Claire, Celeste and others who may be lurking

Where's Christa/GatorPhipps? :confused3

I got in my LR this morning. So much for the "cold" weather around here. It was already 83 degrees at 9 a.m. I did 3 miles of run3/walk2 in 44:47. I even did negative splits. Tomorrow will be a rest day. Have a great week everyone!
