Wk of Apr 30--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

News flash! I didn't win either. Oh well I'm glad I didn't. I didn't realize it did not include air fare. Then I'd get there and find out my pace is wayyy slow. I can't believe how quickly it has deteriorated

Oh Judy, you so had me smillng! OK I confess, really laughing! :lmao: Yup! You'll be crying for sure. Best to get in a lot of practice...but, nothing like the real thing.

Eric, I'd say I'd run with you and DW cruise time, but you'll all be having your second and third cups of coffee and I'd only be not halfway finished. I am so much slower. But, I'll be there in your dust! Glad you found us here. I like it when DH goes to the gym with me. Just not enought same time for us.

I'm hoping our Boston gal comes on board soon. I too am looking forward to your report. Hope things slow down enough soon Kim.

Sunny, Yay for your son. I think soccer would certainly be less boring. Maybe next sign up time.

Those racing this weekend. Take lots of pics. I lok forward to them all. I am really quite jealous of all of you. I want the Minnie medal and the Flying Pig has been one event I've thought about so make good on the pics and stories please.

Dana, thanks for the links. They were fun.

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

I had a pretty good run yesterday some soreness in my shins, but I was able to get through it (iced afterwards). I'm trying to get back on my AP Learn to Run schedule. We were scheduled for a 4 mile run yesterday. I did 4.21 miles between 10:30 --> 11:11 mpm pace. Boy it seemed like I was going faster than that, but I guess the effort just made it seem like it was hard.

Judy- I like your training for crying going across the finish line of the 1/2 marathon. Does that count as cross training?

Dana- Great job with your 25 min wog, and thanks for posting the report of Michael's b-day trip. Your pictures are wonderful. How's it going with the quitting smoking? Keep up the great work.

Hello Eric/Viking- Thanks for your post about Frankfurt and your experience with the Chase Corporate Challenge. There is a Chase Corporate Challenge here in Rochester, NY on June 1st that I was considering running. The University is putting a team together. I must admit that I'm intrigued by the 2 t-shirts you get for the race (one for the race and one for the team).

Hi Helen- Oh it's too bad you won't be at the WDW Marathon weekend in 2007. Can we all come to you for a race in New Zealand?

Yes, I agree with what Lily said. Please post lots of pictures of the races everyone's running this weekend. I'm expecting lots of pictures from the Minnie and Flying Pig.

Lynnda - :wizard: for your DH!

Sunny
- Definately wear that jacket!!! So many people here at work have them & wear them all the time. And trust me - they didn't / would never run any race! I also live in Sketchers. I have a job where I can wear jeans & t-shirts daily though. I about die when I have to go to a wedding or something & wear heels.

Lily - Happy Anniversary! It was also my parents' anniversary.

Judy - I hear you about crying at the finish line! I am so paranoid that I am going to cry this Sunday at the Minnie. It's my first race ever. And I HATE crying in front of people! I have a hard enough time trying not to cry when I watch DH run WDW every year.

Dave - :wizard: for your shins.

I was so good at posting here awhile ago, but I keep going MIA!
(may have something to do with being psycho-crazy and checking various goo goo dolls websites /message boards for tix info :rolleyes1 but i digress... )

I did my 8 mile wog on Saturday...AND LIVED! :teeth: I was just under a 14 min/mile overall. That is all I want - to stay ahead of the sweeper bus on Sunday. Funny story: Friday night I put a bottle of water in my parents' mailbox so when I wogged by on Saturday am, I could get it (they are approx. 3 miles from my house). I got there, and the mail carrier had taken my water! :confused3 :lmao: Thank goodness my parents have a hidden key. I went in the house and grabbed a bottle from their fridge. I hated to stop, but knew I wouldn't make it without the water. I left a bottle in their box last week, and the mail carrier did not take it. Weird. :confused3 (and yes, I know it's a federal offense to put something inside a mailbox besides mail, but geez!)

I was totally exhausted Saturday night & Sunday. Sunday I was so tired, I skipped my 60 mins. cross. Yesterday I was really tired again, but after eating way too many baked Cheetos while watching Desperate Housewives on TiVo, I forced myself to do my 4 mile Leslie Sansone DVD and 10 min. toning tape. This 4 hours of sleep a night is so not working for me!

Today is a 3 miler. Should be interesting since I haven't wogged in rain as of yet.

Hi all!! Sorry I haven't been posting much. Been crazy busy trying to get ready to leave. I am taking a camera for the race so if I can figure out how to post the pics I will be happy to.

I would love to do the Flying Pig too. Good luck to those doing it.

I wont be able to post much the next couple of days but I'll give you guys a full report when I get back.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick note to post that I got back on my dreadmill last night. I walked for 30 mins and stretched before and after. I am trying to find someway to do this without the back/hip pain so I thought slow and easy is the way to start.

Hope everyone is doing great!

:wizard: for all our Minnie Marathoners that are tapering this week.

Dave - :wizard: on those shins!!!

Oh - anyone good at math??? My grad stat course starts on Thursday and I am so paranoid about it :badpc:

Hi, everyone!
Sorry I haven't been around, but we were in Pittsburgh visiting my in-laws for the weekend and I was crazy busy yesterday.
I walked to and from the courthouse yesterday in shoes that have gotten too big since I lost weight, and MAN! are my feet sore! By the time I was leaving work last night, I couldn't bear the thought of walking 3 blocks to my parking garage. I did change into workout clothes (had to try out the shirt I am planning to wear for the Minnie) and sneakers (my twice-worn pair of my old favorites) and headed to the state park with the hopes of doing some major miles. Unfortunately, it was closing in about 45 minutes, so I had limited time and even less energy and a sore hip and very sore, blistered feet. UGH! I got in 2.25 miles in about 35 minutes. I think my pace was about 15:30, obviously not fast enough to beat the sweepers. Maybe I need to give Rhonda a cattle prod to hustle my sorry self.

The rest of the week is insane with a WW meeting tonight, a special olympics meeting tomorrow night, an appointment Thursday night, and flying to Orlando on Friday. There is just no hope of me getting in a long workout anytime this week unless I get out of bed at 5, and God knows, I am NOT as disciplined as Judy! :grouphug:

BTW, Helen, I can't wait to watch the video again and look for you! And, I agree with Dave, that we may have to plan a WISH field trip to experience an event in NZ. I guess the best I can look forward to right now is us meeting somewhat "halfway" in DL.

Sunny -- I agree that soccer would be an awesome sport for your DS. Both of my kids played it and it really did help DD (who was severely ADHD) to learn to be alert and focused. She loved it. Personally, I do not find baseball as exciting.

[okay, guys, I started this over an hour ago and keep getting distracted. Gotta wrap it up. Talk to you all later!]

Good morning everyone. I need to get over to my WDW Marathon thread and update it. So I'll do that next.

This morning I did my usual TM routine. I felt pretty strong. Then I did some stationary bike. I wish I had more time in the morning. Maybe I'll have to rearrange two or so mornings so I can spend more time training. Let me think about that..... :rolleyes1

Well, I sure as heck will not win the Half, but I might be nominated for "Best Dramatic Performance During Training"...

This morning DH asked me what DFL>>DNF>>DNS means since its on our fridge now. So, I explained. Then I said " I WILL FINISH the Half, if you have to drag my LIFELESS BODY across that finish line, I am going to FINISH". I was going to throw in a little "As God is my witness" but I thought that was a bit over the top.

"Thank you! Thank you! You love me, you really love me!"

:rolleyes2

Helen - I'm sorry you're not going to be there. But I am already thinking about 2008 so I'll get to meet you then. We can take turns doing the name badges. But to be honest, I was going to cheat and make them up before I go. We just made name tags for Take Our Children To Work Day and they came out pretty nice. However, since I manage the Graphics Dept, I expect no less. Otherwise I can fire people. Hee hee. :teeth:

Lily - Oh I'm glad I gave you a chuckle. I'm a big cry baby. You all might as well know that now.

Dave - Hey you ran 4.1 miles yesterday? :thumbsup2 You're doing really darn good! :cheer2:

Kristi - Oh please, who cares!?? They will be tears of JOY! Best of luck to you this weekend. :wizard: I expect a detailed trip/race report next week. :goodvibes

Minnie
- Sorry I can't help you with the math. That's one subject I really disliked! :sad2:

OK this is very serious now - WHERE IS CAM?????? :confused3

Cam- your in-laws are in Pittsburgh?!? Where? I grew up in Pittsburgh, and my mother-in-law still lives there on the North Side within walking distance to Heinz Field, PNC Park, and the Carnegie Science Center. We were just in Pittsburgh to see her over Easter. Small world...

Yikes! from the looks of htis thread, I'd swear I've been out of the loop for weeks!

Crazy busy at work.

No time to chatch up, but wanted to say,

Welcome Viking!!!

Still tryiing to get over my I'm not doing the MInnie deptresssion. :(

Kristy - Thanks fo rsaking about FIL. They did skin grafts Friday. We were supposecd to hear if they took SUnday or yesterday. DH can't get a hold of MIL and she has not bothered calling. Grrr.... He was there fo rthe surgery adn stayed unitl late Friday night. NOt like he's not doing his best to try to be there. It'd be nice if she was a little better at communicating. Anyway, if they took, he could go home this week! What a relief that will be, but recovery will be long and slow. They said it will be 6 to 9 month sbefore he can do stairs again. He's taking very brief walks (3 to 5 steps) with a walker now.

Have a great week everyone!

Dave -- It really is a small world. He is actually from New Kensington (but for whatever reason, most people think that is near Philadelphia rather than at the western end of the state, so I always clarify "Pittsburgh"). He grew up in Oakmont and New Ken, and we were staying in Harmarville and visiting with his family in New Ken.
Interesting, huh? Especially now that your parents are in Delaware. Sing with me -- "It's a Small World Afterall!" My daughter just LOVES (NOT!!!!) when I plant that song in her head! :rotfl2:

So, Judy, you come looking for me and then don't even respond to my PM. What's with that?!?!?!!? I'm so HURT. I feel IGNORED!!!! ;)

Trust me, Cam, when I tell you I would MUCH rather have been writing to you - which BTW I just did - then going to a meeting YET AGAIN about the Bird Flu.

But I'm back now. So look in your PMs. :teeth:

Judy

Hello again everyone

Just wanted to wish everyone who is participating the best of luck for the Minnie this weekend!! I've got to make it a point to visit the weekly threads more often...between my journal and things moving so quickly on here it makes it hard to stay afloat!!

Anywho, I'm running my second 5k this weekend...it's called the Library Run 5K in Ball Ground, GA. It's pretty much up hill for 1.5 and then down hill for the final 1.5...should be interesting to see if I can better my time from my last 5k.

Training has gone really well for me as I had a super 5 mile run on Sunday, pacing at 9:53 per mile. I'm working up to 6.5 mile runs on the weekends to prepare me for the Peachtree 10k on July 4th. I'm doing 40-50 minute 4r/1w on Mondays and Thursdays, 40 minute elliptical sessions on Tuesdays & Fridays and my distance runs with the same 4r/1w intervals on Saturdays.

Good luck again to those running this weekend and I promise to start hitting this thread more often!

No way!!! You were so close to where I grew up. I grew up on the east side of town in the community of Plum Borough. Plum is bordered by Oakmont and New Ken. In fact there were parts of Plum with Oakmont and New Ken addresses. I think the Oakmont Country Club is officially in Plum (so they don't have to pay Oakmont taxes). My best friend who was best man in my wedding now lives in New Ken. What high school did Howard go to? I remember running track against Valley High and Lower Burrell.

Yup, very interesting... my parents moved from Plum and eventually ended up in Delaware. My mom even ran a meals on wheels in Plum and they had a lot of clients in New Ken. Wow, what a very small world...

I've been lurking here a lot more than I have been posting lately. You guys sure are chatty! I love it! Keeps me motivated!

Headed off to Epcot later this afternoon for Flower Power. Then tomorrow it's off to see the Yankees vs the Devil Rays. Then a couple of days on the beach in Chimera's neighborhood. We will stop at the Expo on our way home to pick up our race packs for the Minnie 5K. Then Sat Am, the race and EoS in the afternoon. Going to be a busy week for us, especially since the beach - any beach - is one of my favorite places in the world and I tend to over-do it when I get there. I love ocean swimming and I tend to stay on the beach out in the sun way too long! I sure was not thinking about the Minnie when I scheduled all of this! It will be interesting to see what shape I will be in on Sat. Seems like the older I get, the longer I need in recovery time when I over-do things! :earseek:

Anyone else refuse to wear shoes that don't feel like running shoes anymore? My latest craze is this thrift store shopping. I bought a bunch of casual skirts, which meant I needed to get some shoes that can be worn with skirts. I searched three huge stores and ended up buying three pairs of Sketchers that just barely pass as casual skirt shoes! There is no way I'm wearing anything that makes my feet sore or doesn't feel like a supportive rubber sole! I did avoid open toe styles.

Sunny, do you mean that there actually ARE other kinds of shoes! :earseek: Oh, wait, I do wear my flip-flops occasionally! Unlike some of you, I can't run in them, though! Too slippery for me!

Lily, congrats to you and Ted on your anniversary! You guys really do make a great couple! It is easy to see why your marriage has lasted so long and is still going strong!

Krista, have a great time doing the Flying Pig!

Viking, welcome! Thanks for the info on your home town. It was fun reading it.

Dave, Helen, where do I sign up for the New Zeeland trip! :cool1:

I'm off to get ready to go see the Grass Roots and some laps around the World Showcase Lagoon!

Dave -- What a riot! I know right where Plum is. We drive right through it whenever we are running errands out there. What part of New Ken is your best man in? (Feel free to send a PM if you don't want to broadcast his info! :teeth: ) Howard graduated Valley High School class of '81. He was a golfer, though, not a runner back in those days. Wow! Look at him now -- he ran 22.21 miles yesterday, training for his 5/21 Delaware Marathon. Oh, and he played and caddied at Oakmont Country Club. Funny!

Sorry, guys, for being :offtopic:

Good luck to everyone doing the Minnie! We can't wait to hear all about it.

My youngest DD turned 3 yesterday. When she was born, I had 4 girls 4 and under. It makes me tired just thinking about it. It makes 4 girls 7 and under (which is what I have now) seem sane somehow.

The team captain for our relay marathon on May 20th has moved me to the starting position in the race. I guess we are going to go with the "tortoise" approach to the race rather than the speedy rabbit approach. At least I get to run when it is cooler (probably only 80 degrees) at the start. I guess I better stop eating birthday cake and get back to training.
