Wk of Apr 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

jeanne - They stop sweeping after ~20 miles. After that, as long as you don't stop, you get the medal. Cam had bikers on her heels the whole time, but she would NOT stop. However, you need to make it in the 7 hours to get the Goofy.

Are the bikers the officials who basically signify the end of the race?

Also, what exactly does a sweeper look like? I have this vision of something that looks like the vehicle from Roger Rabbit!

Real quick post b/c I have a client in 1 hour and I haven't gotten in the shower yet!:scared1:
Anywho.....
Ran 3.2 miles this morning. I worked on hill training. Don't know the time, but I was sucking wind.
I am training for my 5k on the 19th on May. This may sound funny b/c at this point, I am well trained to run a marathon, but a 5k is so different. My body is used to the LONG SLOW miles, not the SHORT FAST ones. And Charlotte is hilly!
My buddy that asked me to run this is trying to make it into a competition btwn us. She is much faster than me and I have no desire to compete with her. I have told her this, but she thinks that I am fast b/c I can go long.
AAAHHHHHHHHHH!:headache:

Will catch up later.....must work all day to pay for my FREE sport....
OH, I saw a cute quote on running...
"My sport, is your sport's punishment".

Mike

Don't you dare eidt your posts. I love hearing the inner monologue which bursts out of your brain, straight to your posts.

Remember, the constitution guarantees you the right to free speech. Spouses, who want us to stop embarassing ourselves, do not restrict or control that right.

Plus, I don't mind how much trouble you get in at home, as long and you make me laugh.

Craig

Yup. I think they are EMTs, too.

Also, what exactly does a sweeper look like? I have this vision of something that looks like the vehicle from Roger Rabbit!
lol. IIRC, The sweepers (guys on bikes) diirect you to a bus that will take you to the finish.

Don't forget that Steve and Dave want to pull each other, preferably when they are tied up. :rolleyes1

Bill

Let's see if I have this straight: Bill doesn't want Judy pulling a Cam. I try not to pull a Judy and no one wants to pull a Carrie. Wow, what a group we are. :lmao:

What! did I just walk in on? :surfweb: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: OMG! I'm so happy to read that our Team is bonding. :rotfl2:

Yep, we're all pulling for each other!

Cam- I hadn't heard your story before. I am so impressed that you kept going! Like Craig said, it is the bib and the medal that prove you stuck the course.

Love those Mickey pics!

Christa- Love the quote!

Lisa- :rotfl: Your doula must have been shocked! :rotfl:

I did 5 miles on TM yesterday using the HR monitor on aerobic setting. I seem to sweat so much more when I'm doing it in that range. Is that the rendered fat seeping out of my pores?

Does anyone belong to a track club/team? Would it be beneficial to sign up for the summer Y team? I would like to work on my speed and really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to that.

Good morning TEAM! I didn't run last night, no great story for why I didn't, I just didn't. :) Stephen was out of town last night, so I spent the evening getting caught up on Desperate Housewives and the laundry and once that was done, I read all night long. I love to read and can spend HOURS lost in a book, much to Stephen's dismay. :) So I have 6 miles tonight--swapping my lr for this weekend and my sr out, I'm doing a 5K on Saturday, so instead of running 3 miles before the race, I'm doing 6 tonight that I'm supposed to do this weekend. It'll be my last long distance before the Pig!!

Update on my sister--Her blood pressure is down, I think my Mom said it was 130/80 last night. Still high, but much, much better. I assume her surgery is still scheduled for today, the surgeon was supposed to meet with her last night, but cancelled because he had a head cold. Remind me to never live out in the backwoods (they live in IN, about an 50 minutes-hour away from Cincinnati), it would be nice to have more than one surgeon who can perform a specific surgery. My brother-in-law seems to be handling things okay with the kids, they have 3: 12, 8, and 1, Mom said when she called last night he was doing laundry. At least they are wearing clean clothes!!!

Angie--11 days!! I am so excited for you!! Post lots of pics. And I love the preggo story. :)

Mike--I love your posts! I don't think they are too risque at all. But then again I don't have kids that I have to explain things to. :) I hope you enjoyed your rest day.

Cam--I'm going to chime in with Craig and say that certificate means nothing. Your medal and your bib are your badges of honor. My medal is hanging off my dresser and my bib is the bookcase, both are waiting to be put in the shadow box. I have no clue where my finisher's certificate is. I think it's still in the envelop buried under a pile of papers.

Dave--I love your pic with Mickey!!!

And just because everyone is sharing, here's me and the Big Cheese at Chef Mickey's

Christa--I so understand what you are saying. That's why I'm religiously attending the "Women Can Run" clinic here. I have about 2 1/2 weeks until the "graduation" 5K and it is making me more nervous than the Minnie. I'm really good at long and steady--but getting it into my brain that the race is only 3.1 miles long and I can go faster; just doesn't compute. I'm working with the advanced runner leaders at the clinic to improve my time. They have this crazy idea that I can run the 5K in 23:00. So, I'm working with a pace and effort chart to get to that speed. I will say, though, that what's really helped me is speedwork. I might feel like crud afterward, but at least now I know what it feels like to run fast. Here I go rambling again......

Carrie--sorry about your stonker--I had one last night as well. Must be the weather!

Cam and Dave-What great pics!!! I definitely will be in line to get mine this year!

Lisa--Too bad about the bike--but :thumbsup2 to you for still getting out of bed to give it a try. I think DS was 10 months old before I got back working out.

Mike--Don't censor yourself. I need my daily comic relief!

Krista--Prayers and PD for your sister! I hope this will be the wake up call she needs.

Well, my run last night was a stonker. Most of that was from having to get on my home TM, which I hate. I did 3 miles, was at was supposed to be "easy pace" but still felt like more than full effort! Hope this am is better. Gonna try to get 3-4 miles in during DD's gymnastics class, and then I'm heading to the running store--not for anything fun, they're the only place that carries HammerGel--but maybe, just maybe they're having a sale!

Stephanie - I've had a lot of "easy" runs lately that felt like I was putting everything I had and more into them. If we take it easy fro the next 11 days, I'm sure our legs will thank us and we'll be ready to go for teh Minnie.

Krista: sending best wishes for your sister's recovery.......LOVE the Mickey photo!

Christa & Stephanie--I have one speed: slow! :lmao: :lmao: I have a 5K this weekend and I'm hoping to break 30:00. The closest I've come is 30:09. Good luck on your 5K's!!

It's all so relative.........a 5K in 30 would feel like flying to me. If you consider yourself to be slow, I must be going in reverse.

Krista--- Glad that your sister's BP is down.

Cam, Dave, and Krista--- Thanks for sharing your cute pictures with Mickey and your medals.

Jeanne--- I'm hoping that 70 year old man comes again this year so that maybe we can at least beat one other person to the finish line. At least there will be 3 people left in the stands to cheer for us that is if the men haven't gotten completely bored and went to Lunch without us.

Ha,ha....last year's event probably killed him (as it will us!). Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.......there won't be anybody left on the sidelines to cheer us on. You realize that even the award ceremony will be over before we finish!

Off to play 9 holes of golf walking......that qualifies as XT!

Krista - We had teh running store owner say that their race was too short for us. We laughed, "No, we're just too slow for those distances." I prefer to think that I may be slow, but I can go fora looong time. Instead of slow, just call it "Marathon Pace." ;) Thinking of Shari!

Morning everyone! I got my 5 mile run in last night. I made a conscientious decision to slow down a bit. I felt some twinges in my right bum ankle after my 7 mile run on Sunday so I want to be sure I'm not trying to push the pace too much as I up my mileage. Anyhow, got the 5 miler done in 59:24 for an 11:53/mi pace. I just passed the cumulative mileage point of where I got injured last year, so I think part of it is me mentally needing to know that I can get past this point. Not sure I'll be able to get my XT in today or not, but if I can't I'll settle for watching the Vancouver Canucks XT versus the Anaheim Ducks. I shall live vicariously!

Cam - your marathon story - how wonderful that you had the support of your friends through that. I'm sure it made for a memorable race for all of you. That experience, along with your medal and bib, is worth way more than the finisher's certificate! And I love your pic with Mickey - what a great idea!
Lisa - your comment cracked me up!!
Carrie - How nice for your local goofyguy to run with you to say that.
Krista - glad your sister's BP is coming down. Prayers for her surgery. I love your picture with Mickey too!

OK, back to work. I am kind of sorry to say that AI was a little less interesting without Sanjaya on it!

OK any second now I am going to RIP this halter monitor and all it's stupid electrodes and tape RIGHT OFF ME! :headache: I can't STAND this thing! And I'm supposed to wear it until 1:00!?! I DON'T THINK SO! I could hardly sleep last night with the strap choking me and the tape itching. Geez, I sound like a baby I know, but I just can't stand it!

Anyway, I didn't train this morning, since I hardly slept all night. I was just too beat. I am so unprepared for the Minnie. When I was training for the Half I only missed one day of training. I really felt ready for that race. This one, not so much. Well, I suppose I'll at least be well rested.

Hello to all my on-line friends. I had a rest day today. I hope to run tomorrow. With any luck, I will be pleased with my progress.
Oh Mike, that's so disappointing....:sad2: Come on, we look forward to you making us LOL every day!

Cam & Dave & Krista - EXCELLENT pictures! What a great idea! Cam, can we get our picture with Minnie next week? :yay:

Cam: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"--I regret that when my doula said this to me while I was in transition (laboring)---that my response was "Well, Jesus was never in labor."

Lisa - OK, I'm sorry but..... :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Carrie - Sorry you had a stonker, but, well, at least you attempted to train. I did nothing.

Jeanne
- If you're going in reverse, sister, I'm right there with ya! :thumbsup2

Hellooooooo Kevin????? :rolleyes1

Awesome picture Dave!!! :goodvibes:

Cam: "I can do all things through Christ who strenghens me"--I regret that when my doula said this to me while I was in transition (laboring)---that my response was "Well, Jesus was never in labor."

Lisa -- that is hysterical!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: And I give you SOOOO much credit for finding the energy to even get out of bed with your little ones AND a baby!

Funny thing did happen at the beginiing of our run. The local "goofyguy", not to be confused with goofyMike, was runnign the opposite way near the beginning of our SR yesterday. he says, "I won't make you stop, buyt I keep forgetting to tell you something," as he turns and runs with us. NOw, this guy is a true runner to turn around kknowing we won't want ot stop. ;) He tells Scott, "I keep wanting to tell you how lucky you are to have someone to run with. No matter how slow I go, no one will run with me. not my wife or my 2 kids." :cloud9: So sweet of him to say that. I mentioned that it's not always easy, but it's so nice not to go alone. (Not to mention that I'd not likely still be running on my own.) I just thought that was really cool of him to say. he's right adn it goes both ways, but most peoiple would just say that I'm the lucky one. BTW, I don't think it's the pace, this guy just runs forever! :p

Carrie -- you and Scott are BOTH lucky, not just to have each other's company when you run, but also because you WANT to be together. That says so much about your relationship and I LOVE hearing about it! IT was so nice of Goofy Guy to take the time to tell Scott that.

And just because everyone is sharing, here's me and the Big Cheese at Chef Mickey's
DSC00835.jpg

Krista -- What a great picture! THank you for sharing it. Oh, good, now everyone here who hasnt' met you (hugged you) in person can see just how ridiculous it would be for anyone to say you have a baby belly. :sad2: I am glad your sister's BP has come down and that your BIL knows how to do laundry while caring for 3 children! I am sure your parents are relieved, too. ;)

Thank you, everyone for your kind comments on my race experience. THe experience was edifying, to say the least. It is under those conditions that you learn so much about yourself and about friendship. I know Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) isn't here much since LTO but we have done 3 races together and I WISH for all of you a race partner with her special brand of positive spirit and absolute determination and profound kindness.

The support of our teammates here and in person is a precious gift and I am so glad to see people here who have running partners IRL and those of us who can go to these events and know that there is someone who is at our pace that we can "go the distance" with. :grouphug: Very, very cool! :thumbsup2

Hey, Mike -- please tell DW that we can't make it through the day without your humor! I usually start on the training thread looking like this --> :surfweb: and get to one of your posts and end up looking like this -->:lmao: Okay, maybe I'm not rolling around my office and pounding on the ground, but pretty darn close!

Ouch! I wore one of those before and found out I was allergic to the adhesive the electrodes were stuck to me with. Looked like I had been attacked by a rabid octopus! Hope you find out something to help soon!

Cam, can we get our picture with Minnie next week? :yay:

Oh, yeah!
eefdc767.jpg

Judy -- Do not worry about your training. You are in great shape with the base you built for the 1/2 and with anything and everything you have done since then. :thumbsup2 Race day excitement and being with your WISH friends will also be very energizing! :yay: :dance3:  :cheer2:

Judy - I'm thinkign someone here would have told you that you shouldn't be running on that foot anyway. :rolleyes1 I'll remind you again. I did not run teh last week before amrathon because I was sick. I was sporadic to say the least. You WILL be ok! Hope your halter results come out well adn good luck with the ped! Should I call her (?) so that I can make sure you follow her instructions? :p :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: BTW, I'm pretty sure that the pic with Minnie is a requirement for all WISH team members!

Krista - You are just too darn cute!!! Love that pic!

Dave - Love your Mickey pic too!

Solo update - Pretty sure this is his exam week. He did surface briefly in my e-mail box last week, so he is ok. He should be back soon. Hope exams are going well Kevin!

Leana - Good for you fo slowing down and listening to your body!
