Wk of Apr 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

Ok, now to try to catch up with everyone!!

Jen--Good idea to get your foot checked out, hope the doctor can give you some good advice on what to do!

Leana--my apartment stayed flood free, but much of the area was under water. It is crazy trying to drive around because so many roads are still closed, but it is getting better. I actually have a couple of friends that were evacuated from their houses and probably have 5-6 feet of water in their homes right now...not good. I have seen enough rain to last me a LONG time right now!! I need sun!

Stephanie--glad you had fun at WDW!!

Bill-sounds like you are staying busy with the new little one! Hope Timmy's coughing clears up!

Bekkiz-nice job on your 1.5 miles!

Craig--First, Congrats on the professorship at MIT, that is so AWESOME!! Also, that is so cool that you got to see the marathon in person, I was watching on TV and thinking the same thing, how on earth do these elite runners run so darn fast after 20 miles!!!!

Carrie--great job on your speedy workout!

Krista--Awesome job on your pain free 5k run! that is awesome!!

disnutt--great job on your TM run!

Terri-Glad to hear you are done with the crutches! And that's great that you can start exercising a bit! You must be so excited!

Dave--Free scoop day...yummy. Now if I only knew where to find a Ben and Jerry's around here I would have went!!!

Mel--Glad to hear you are enjoying the job. Sending some :wizard: to Phil that all is well.

Cam--hope you are feeling better soon! :wizard:

Judy--Funny story about the geese! :rotfl: I actually looked at my calendar and I can't make it to the clinic in NYC. Too bad, maybe next time!

Shan--sounds like you have a great training plan mapped out, you will do great!

Susie-WTG for breaking the 14 min pace...that's AWESOME!! keep up the good work

Sorry to those I missed! Time for American Idol--gotta run!!

Evenin' WISHers!
I am not having much of a few days off here. Yesterday I spent the morning sleeping, worked OT overnight Monday. Got a few hours of sleep and then went to my chiro for an adjustment and a massage. Felt ALOT better afterwards. But then spent afternoon mowing the lawn and assembling the new grill we just bought. Near the end, it got dark and DW Darcey was holding a flashlight for me. No way I was not going to finish it. Ended up grilling out on new grill for dinner last night, food never tasted sooo goood. Ok not that great, it wasn't at WDW.
Today, DW went for a brisk 4 mile walk and did an abs circuit afterwards. THEN worked on the hedges in back that are going to go bye bye here soon..the roots are pretty deep, my shoveling didn't get them up, so I will have to hire someone. In terms of an estimate, I will ask them to tell me how many nights at POFQ during Value season it's gonna cost me, see if they can figure it out. Will be totally shocked if they ask me Standard View or Water View.

Laurie - Good luck next week on your race, you're gonna do great!
Bill - Glad to hear TImmy's weight is back up. PD to him, hope this "choking" thing is very minor.
Cam - PD your way. Hope your back at it in no time!
Jen - Sorry to hear work is very stressful for you now. I have the same thing going on where I work. Hope the new assistant works out well for you! You can see your WISH shirt VERY well in that photo!
Martha - Be speedy tomorrow! Try to avoid the Upper Field at Babson, I hear they are a killer!
Terri - Good to hear you're off the crutches!
Craig - Congrats on the Visiting Professorship at MIT!
Krista - I think my recent problem was due more to overworking my legs though. I spent 4 days in a row, stressing them and on the fifth day, they were sore and so was I. I backed off of legwork and kept my runs to walks and they are doing better. I'm feeling better. I have to remember that at my weight (still heavy, even after the amount I've lost), any running is going to be enough work for my legs so give them a break on my nonrunning days. My ego gets the best of me sometimes.
Shan - A big hearted WELCOME to the Team! Here you will find motivation, inspiration, laughs, tears, and more support than you can shake a stick at!

Tomorrow I tackle my cluttered garage and Friday the DW and I are taking a road trip...just because (included is my Big Gulp of Diet Mt. Dew with Bare Naked LAdies and Dave Matthews along for the ride).

Happy Training!

Laurie Good five miles! You should have no problems with your race, esp. training in those conditions :lmao: !

Andrew I am so happy to see I'm not the only one who prices everything Disney style. My oven is broken, and I'm hoping that fixing it doesn't mean the difference between staying 7 nights or 8!

Susie That is so exciting break 14! 14 is my goal right now for a 5K in June. You'll be my inspiration!

Krista Your splits are awesome, and thanks for the cheers :) :cheer2:

Today I got 3 miles in. I had grand plans of walking .75 miles, walk/jog .75 miles and repeat. Well, that didn't happen. I jogged 3 1 minute segments, it was just hurting my back and I felt bad. So, I focused on just walking strong (which doesn't really hurt my back). I almost whimped out and thought about doing only 2 miles, but decided that walking strong for 3 miles was important to do :)

I was still happy w/ my pace, 15:09 mpm, my best for a 3 mile stretch, so thats positive. And after a stretch and a shower, I'm feeling better. And having a milkshake for dinner--that helps :lmao:

Terri - Congratulations on being crutch-free!

Dave - PB&J is not unknown for dinner around here. Neither is cereal. It helps that DD is 16, and I no longer feel nearly as obligated to provide well-balanced meals! Last night I discovered spaghetti sauce in the freezer and was able to throw together a reasonably decent meal with little effort.

Melissa - Hope everything is okay with Phil. Glad you're enjoying the job.

Krista - Come on over, and please bring Hines. When Mystic was going to the dog park regularly, several of her good friends were chocolate labs. She'd love to have a playmate. Ever since I started running, Saturday mornings at the dog park don't fit in my schedule anymore!

Leana - Glad you got the run in. I can't believe you're still getting snow!

Judy - The goose story is TOO funny! Are we running tomorrow morning?

Shan - It takes a few weeks to get this group figured out. And yes, we move really fast (at least on the computer - some of us aren't so fast on the road!)

Susie - Congrats on the pace! I'm shooting for about that same pace for the half.

Christa - I laughed out loud at you calling someone else "REALLY fast." You're the fastest person I know on these boards, and you're worried about a 5K?

Cam - Go to any doctor you can. If it hurts that much, someone needs to see you. And you need to be training, so you need to get well!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Kristi - You're rubbing off on me too. I abbreviated one of our customers' names today without thinking - wrote down GGD - then went back later and looked at it and thought "Goo Goo Dolls?" Couldn't figure out what that had to do with work!

Bekki - Glad my tip worked. I've gotten so much advice from this group - I think this is the first time I've actually given any!

Did 35:00 on the bike last night, then decided today was a rest day. Plan to hit the TM tomorrow morning, but have to pick DD up from work at 10:30 tonight, so that really screws up bedtime! Sure do wish she'd get her license, but that will just bring a whole new set of problems and worries.

Jackie

Just a quick drive by, but I did want to say:

Craig - Congrats!! That's awesome news!

Judy - Too funny about the geese! :rotfl:

No training to report. The post-race letdown? Yeah, wasn't expecting it after a 5K. Apparently it's not exclusive to the longer races. :sad2:

Not a whole lot to say for me so far this week... Monday was off after the Sunday triathlon, Tuesday I got out for a 75 min ride guessing I went about 20 miles since I forgot my Garmin... Today I eventually talked myself into doing my planned 40 min swim before going into work and I'm finally feeling more comfortable in the water... Either that or swimming in my pool was just a million times easier than swimming in the windy waves of the lake Sunday... Seems like my form is improving anyway. After work I just couldn't get going though, and it took until crazy late (1am) to talk myself into doing the planned 40 min run as well. Actually also went well probably because of the huge gap between the supposed paired workouts.

Training is so boring, and thus boring to talk about, WISH I could just race all the time.

Keep it up everyone, keep gettin out there even if you don't wanna! Minnie is almost here!

Just so Dave doesn't get in trouble from Judy next week... ;)

May 1st is National Pizza Day at Pizza Hut. They are giving away one slice of pizza (cheese or pepperoni) per person between 3 and 5pm. This is going to be nationwide, with advertisements on tv and in USA Today on May 1st.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Wow, I had a great run yesterday. I was outside and it was beautiful. The wind was kick'n chick'n in my face for the beginning of the run, but then it subsided. I did 4.5 miles in about 40 min for a 9:00 mpm pace. It felt really good. Then I did another 1.5 miles with the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, for their 5K training. They did great!

Jen- I really hope things work out with your new assistant, and you get some help at work. Sounds like you've been pretty stressed lately. Good job on getting your exercise in still!

Laurie- That's a great pace for your 5 mile run. WTG! You know I think the nerves are good for your race. Just take that nervous energy and funnel it into excitement for the race and you'll do great!

Melissa- Just wanted to send out some more good WISHes for Phil. I hope everything's OK.

Andrew- Wow, good for you for tackling all those home chores.

Bekkiz- Sorry you're back is hurting you during your runs. Still the 3 miles in 15 mpm pace is not bad at all. Hang in there.

Jackie- I had not thought of the cereal for dinner. The princesses, princess: princess:, would love that one. Nice job on the bike. Oooh, have to pick up DD at 10:30p, that would really mess up my bedtime too.

TXAng- Instead of postrace letdown, just think of it as reverse taper.

Matt- I thought you did race all the time. It does sound like you need to spice up your training though. New course? New music? Any of those help?

Kristi- Thanks, free pizza day! Whoo hooo! I've never heard of that one, but I love free.

So all you AI fans out there - were you scared when it was Lakisha, Blake, and Sanjaya in the bottom 3? How many people thought Sanjaya was going to be saved again, and either Lakisha or Blake would be gone?

Christa - I laughed out loud at you calling someone else "REALLY fast." You're the fastest person I know on these boards, and you're worried about a 5K?
Jackie

Jackie, you are very kind. I have learned fast depends on who you are being compared to. If you compare me to my friend Josh, I am very slow. He runs between 4-5 minute mile during a marathon...faster on shorter races! He can do a 40 miler in the time it takes me to do a marathon...I know this b/c one of the marathons I ran had a 40 miler he ran...yeah, he finished right with me.....OOC! That humbles a person!
THanks though!;)

Just felt like I should chime in...
I read lots/post little, 'cause I'm way behind you guys and dont have a lot to brag about...but yesterday...

let me first add that I have been pretty down about training lately, it seems like I'm not getting any faster, the longer walk/runs I go on are killing me, and I've been having serious doubts if I can do this....but...read some of Dave's posts, so motivating that I feel like I cant let him down...have to keep trying...

so yesterday...I did 4 miles in 64 minutes, with no pain....yay me!
I know it's nothing compared to what you all do, but it's a HUGE thing for me!

Thanks Dave!! (and everyone else too!)

Morning everyone! Today is a rest day for me. :woohoo:
Funny enough, I actually feel guilty not going out. I was so used to walking every morning, but I'm sticking to this program and sure enough - my feet aren't hurting like they were before even with me now incorporating some running. :thumbsup2

I went to the grocery store this morning and saw a sign up for Race for the Cure in Atlanta in May. It is a 5K, maybe a good experience for me as a newbie and definitely for an important cause. Unfortunately, it is on a Saturday morning and DH usually works Saturdays... I'm gonna ask him today if there is any way he can take off. It doesn't appear it is chip timed and no sweeper bus to worry about. :rotfl:

I gotta run some errands today and gonna check out some paths I can run. My neighborhood stinks for running. I'm really over all these hills. It will be the death of me.

Good morning TEAM!!! I xt last night, I did the elliptical for 20 minutes and then lifted weights. The elliptical was really hard last night, I think because it was SO hot in the Community Center, I had sweat dripping off me. I don't know how people work-out in pants and long sleeved shirts, I would pass out from being so hot. Tonight I have 4 miles, looks like it'll be on the treadmill as it's raining right now. This weekend I have 12 and then the taper begins!!

Dave--Nice run! Wow! You are getting so fast. I hope you and Stephen don't have to wait for me too long at the Finish Line. :) I totally would have gotten more than 1 scoop at Ben and Jerry's too, next to Grater's, it's my favorite. By the way, Flying Pig people, make sure you get Grater's before you leave--it's the best ice cream EVER!

Bekkiz--Great job sticking with the run even though your back hurt. Trust me on this one because I've been there, as you run and walk, your back muscles will get stronger and the pain will lessen and finally go away. I used to have a sore back all the time and even had a couple of herniated disks, ever since I started running, I haven't had any back issues. Knock on wood. :) Also, do some ab work, as working the opposite muscle will strengthen the muscle you are having trouble with.

Christa--I think you are VERY fast!!!!

Judy--:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Be careful!!! I've heard those geese are pretty mean! We have them in our parking lot at work and sometimes they chase us across the parking lot. One time they stood outside of a co-worker's car door and wouldn't let her out. Everytime she would start to open the door, the goose would hiss at her and start flapping it's wings. I think she finally crawled out the passenger door. :rotfl:

American Idol People--:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: But can you believe how hard he was sobbing? Seriously. Give me a break! Also, I would not have been sad to see LaKisha go either, I can't stand her. And, I am down loading Martina McBride's new song, the lyrics were so powerful, I think that would be an awesome song to run to.

Jen--Good luck with your new receptionist!!!! :wizard:

Pungodingy-- Please post on here all the time. I really hope it doesn't sound like we are all bragging all the time, because we aren't. Every single one of us has had struggles in the past, so when we get on here and post our victories, we are celebrating with each other. We want to hear how you are doing so we can help you through your struggles and in turn party like crazy when you succeed. You CAN do this. Believe in YOURSELF!!

Laurie--You are going to do great on your half next weekend!! Like Dave said, take that nervousness and channel it into energy.

Cam--I hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe you need to go to an Urgent Care and get on some antibiotics.

Sorry to all I missed, but I have to go and heat up my bagel, I'm STARVING!!!

Morning all!

Today is my 11 yo DD's day to complete the 5K distance in her Girls on the Run training! I'll be running that w/ her and the rest of the girls this afternoon!

Laurie-great pace!

Andrew- I just had a toilet repaired to the tune of one night at POP during value season w/ the AAA discount. I thought it was a pretty fair price!:rotfl:

Jackie- I'm glad there is an age cut off for ensuring kids have well-balanced meals! I'm really getting tired of it!

Kristi- As a follow up to my Jackie comment- Thanks for the heads up on the Pizza Hut freebie!

Angie- Good job sticking w/ your training! Sometimes we all just have to make ourselves do it.

Shan- Glad your training program is helping w/ the pain.

It is finally sunny here! I'm going to go out and do some yard work! Can't believe I'm excited about that!
Kiena

My AI buddies - Blake in the bottom three, what?? I honestly thought Lakisha would go home, but really Sanjaya's time had come. He was starting to get a bit too cocky and he really just wasn't all that good. Krista, you were right, Jordin really rocked her performance the night before!

Um, so not training for me last night. I was so tired from the late night on Tuesday, plus my legs were feeling tired all day so I opted for a rest day instead. We are getting snow here now, although it hasn't stuck to the ground yet. It is supposed to keep falling though... 3 miles planned for tonight.

My AI buddies - Blake in the bottom three, what??

OK, I had to watch a couple of these shows to see what everyone was talking about. Now I know....ah, Saannnjaayaa, wow, is he terrible, but I can see why teeny-bopper girls were voting for him.

As for that Blake, yuck! Does anyone else think he is sooo arrogant??

Once last rant for today...anyone sick of seeing that VT gunman's face/photos all over the news? Let's quit giving him all the attention.:sad2:

Now, I step down from my soapbox.

No long run that last few days because I felt dreadful, I did do the stairclimber yesterday and will hopefully get out for my long run tomorrow.

Train well,
Colleen

Greetings Racing Team -

This morning I did 45 min on the TM mostly at 4.0 but I am adding some "Goose Sprints" at 5.0 in my pathetic effort to keep up with all you speed demons. I figure if I keep adding time at 5.0 pretty soon I'll be doing the entire run at that speed, then I'll start adding minutes at 6.0.... It's my Evil Running Plan.... Adding speed and I won't even notice it.

Uh hu, riiiight.

Jen - That's OK if you laughed at my goose story. It WAS kinda funny! Today they came up to see me and get breakfast like nothing ever happened. Uh hu, I see how it is...

Laurie - It's OK to be nervous. In fact, something would be wrong if you weren't! You're ready. Enjoy it! :woohoo:

Andrew - I'm starting to think that being a homeowner should qualify as XT. There's always something to be done, isn't there? Enjoy the new grill! If they ask you what View....OMG that would be funny! :rotfl:

Jackie - How'd we do this morning? :yay: I felt pretty strong, but still couldn't keep up with you.

Kristi - OMG You're GGD obsession is effecting us all! Isn't Johnny's last name Reznick? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy? I saw that name on something I did at work yesterday and it made me think of you! :lmao:

Just so Dave doesn't get in trouble from Judy next week...

:rotfl2: You are sooo funny! OMG! You made me LOL! See? THIS is what Charlie is talking about. I have so much fun with you guys! HA HA HA HA!

Dave - Awesome pace! Yeah, I love free too, especially when I know about it in advance. (Just teasing ya!) :lmao:

Angie - Angie! DO NOT SAY IT'S NOTHING! (OK I know that's a double negative but I'm trying to make a point. Work with me here, people!) It is something. It's something wonderful! Come on Angie. give yourself some credit for that accomplishment! It was great! I am proud of you. :woohoo:

Krista - But these geese hang around with me when I'm outside. So much so, that, well, they have names. But I didn't realize it's a whole 'nother ball game when they are by their nest. On a sad note.... all four of their eggs were in the back yard yesterday when I got home. Someone ate them..... very sad. :sad1:

I must confess....I've never even seen American Idol. :rolleyes1

Colleen - I concur. I do NOT want to see his face anymore. He should disappear into obscurity.

OK, let me pretend like I enjoy my job. :surfweb:

Oh, this really sucks!! I've got some sort of upper respiratory infection that I'm seeing the doctor about today. But, the sun is now shining after rain for 5solid days! Not nice. It's also supposed to be near 70 degrees on Saturday which would be PERFECT for an outdoor LR. If the doc doesn't give me any relief I will be hard pressed to run the 9.5 I need to run.

Poor me!!! No speed work today.

Matt: way to go on the workouts. Yep, I agree they can be boring but when there is a race nearing, I keep thinking about that and it keeps me going. That and good music. Although I guess I won't be able to have music now on races. OK, if they enforce no headphones, they HAVE to enforce no baby joggers!!!

aladdinsgirl: sweatin' to the XT! Hope you had good music to sweat by!

Pungodingy: Welcome and don't get down about training! Try changing it up. Add some new workouts or weights or other cardio machines. And come back often to this group! We'll buoy your spirits.

Once last rant for today...anyone sick of seeing that VT gunman's face/photos all over the news? Let's quit giving him all the attention.:sad2:

I so agree with you. And think about how this is effecting the families of his victims, having to see his face plastered every where and knowing what he did to their child or spouse. :sad1: I really wish I hadn't seen the "self portraits" that were released yesterday, they were truly horrific.

Just felt like I should chime in...
I read lots/post little, 'cause I'm way behind you guys and dont have a lot to brag about...but yesterday...

I know it's nothing compared to what you all do, but it's a HUGE thing for me!

Thanks Dave!! (and everyone else too!)

Angie! That is a great accomplishment! As I posted earlier:
I have learned fast depends on who you are being compared to.
I couldn't have said it better myself...Oh I did say it. :rotfl: Anyway! This goes for the long distances too. How many peole do you think got out there yesterday and did 4 miles? And at such a wonderful pace! When I started out, I couldnt run 1 mile w/o stopping! Every step makes you stronger. You need to be proud and say, "I did 4 miles and I am Da Bomb!"

I will just do the week, even though I think I posted about Monday already:

Monday - 20 mile bike ride into some Kick'n Chick'n wind
Tuesday - Did a show and rehearsal...I fell off the stage during rehearsal and twisted my knee...it hurt really bad, but was quiet funny....so
Wednesday - I did nothing b/c the knee was kinda feeling strange. I kept an icyhot bandage on it and smelled up my office where I see clients...when they asked, I got to say...Oh I am a runner....like I hurt it running.:lmao:
Thursday (today) - Knee feeling better so went and ran on the track. Was going to do easy, but felt good and did speed work for 4 miles.

Matt I totally agree that training can get quiet borring! That is why I pretend you guys are with me (like the network on the cell phone TV adds). HahaHa!

And I agree that I do not want to see the face of the guy who killed all those people.....
We had 2 different situations here in Charlotte yesterday.
The 1st was a student who brought a gun to school and killed himself in front of other students....B/c of this 4 schols in Meclenburg county went into lockdown....
The 2nd was a man robbed a store or bank and had a gun...he was fleeing from school to school with a gun in Cabarrus County. 7 Schools had to go on lockdown b/c of this. I live on the Cabbarus/Mecklenburg county line so it was quite scarry. Had several clients (I see teens and children) really scared and it really set them back......AHHHH! I choose to be angry about this!
